Thank you so much for taking the time to walk us all through the new cool features of C4D. It always helps a lot to have a visual representation of how stuff is applied 🙏🙌
I stopped using Springs, and Blend with the Delay Effector in 2014. It's great that only 10 years later, the Force PreRoll feature has been implemented, now I may start using them again.
I say it with every release, but I swear I wouldn't know what 90% of the updates can actually do for workflows (or how to start using them) if it weren't for this video.
Finally no more Blend Cloners! Field Drivers to the rescue! That was one of my most used setups for my environments, and it was superslow especially with custom rigs, User Data, XPresso etc.
Thank you so much for all your insights, Chris! it's crazy how fast all tech and softwares are evolving day by day, and how hard it is to keep up with it all, so kudos for doing all that plus giving so much to the community!
@@RocketLasso pepperidge farm remembers!! :) But not only that, its everything - getting new stuff on c4d, getting into unreal, blender, houdini, etc, getting into AI, getting into getting a life beside all this, its a non-ending pile of ever updating stressing, exciting, overwhelming things :D But even so i really enjoy watching full 2h long videos from you, simple and relaxing moments :D
pretty sure the field driver tag was a simplified version of xpresso setup. In the old xpresso, you can link "falloff" node (which outputs 0-1 values from fields ) with a range mapper and plug it into whatever parameter you want to drive.
For the past couple releases they have added these toys and situational things, yet they still have not done anything worthwhile for character animation improvements. So many years now where there was basically nothing for that. We all know that C4D will not be the big rival to Maya in that regard, but they should at least add something that brings things up to speed. Even Blender is better now in this area...
This is no criticism of you Chris, but it boggles my mind that Maxon can be working on and also naming something like Field Drivers and that you have no visibility on it given that a) you're a C4D expert b) you're a C4D evangelist c) you're a C4D plug-in developer d) You're a C4D asset browser content creator! At an absolute minimum they should be consulting with you on what features you'd find valuable in future releases. They might well have done in the past, but really they should have you on retainer, given how valuable your insights would be. And in this case avoided a lot of duplication of work.
welcome to our world! Maxon doesn't give a shit about the 4D cinema artist! I spent almost 4 years bothering a friend who worked there exactly to create these particles, the hair and the fire system! only now they do! It's a shame that the only one I came into contact with has sadly passed away! Now only God knows when they will introduce AI in cinema 4d
@@MarcioLimaSolo I'm afraid commercial companies, definitely ones of such magnitude aren't' able to prioritize a feature as they wish, they are driven by profit, and their survival means prioritizing features that will make their product most competitive, features or updates that only the vast majority of users are in need of. and the decisions for these are usually based on a elaborate process that ensures certain new changes or features will directly adress certain needs, and therefor maximize the benefit the company can get out of a certain new feature/update. So I'm afraid even if you knew the whole team, there isn't really 1 single person in charge, it's rather a system driven by user input that chooses.
Great overview as always! One question though: is there any information out there about the inputs in the node editors? All the time I try to utilize them I end up frustrated, as I don´t know how to reorganize them in a nice layout (just I can do with the good old user data). Any hint appreciated. Thx Michael.
Anybody know why Maxon doesnt develop a simple 'frame trigger' input field for triggering the dynamics? It seems so ridiculous that we are in 2024 and we still have to keyframe a toggle... Houdini has it... a simple freaking input with a frame number.
really weird that rocket lasso released a field driver plugin like 2 weeks ago and c4D 2025 has it basically built in now.. I figured Chris has insider knowledge about this stuff.
How about instead of adding bunch of random fields for each of the parameter, you will drive the seed of that random with another random field :D ? would that work ? i havent updated yet to 2025.
Anyone by chance remember which episode, or in which live video he did the Grow with the plants growing in Rocket Lasso Live?... Thanks in advance. Greetings.
What a chad move to refund people who have no need for the plugin anymore! So unfortunate ... Watching the video now, if I can see some upsides of getting it I might get it :)
Oh wow haha, when I read the "What's new" paragraph on their site I did immediately stop when I read "field driver" and was like "wait what?" haha I thought they had bought it from you to integrate it natively or something, what are the odds that they named it exactly the same?! I guess it's just a very fitting name but still haha
Will your RKT Field Driver work with cloner objects in the future? Do you plan to update your plugin? It would be nice, because a lot of people still using older versions
I would love to add that in if possible. It was literally not possible while we made it, as Maxon had to change internal Cloner code, but I wonder now that they have if it's possible...
it's just an unnecessary toy that wastes the developers' time and during that time something will be underdeveloped. Eevee works as a wow effect for advertising purposes, but has no applied purpose Considering that the CG field is very small and it employs people who value their time, such irrational developments will lead to the opposite effect. e.g. Autodesk failed because of this.
Thanks Chris. But unfortunately more than a half is us are now turning to alternatives due to the insane price tag of Cinema4d. We can’t anymore justify paying 150cad monthly for a software when we have free or way cheaper alternatives that are more developed. We have learned a lot from your video, but for most of us our Cinema4d days are now over. Maxon does not care about freelancers, students or just hobbyist.
What a disappointment Maxon. I ended up learning Houdini because of the insufficiency of Cinema 4d. And apparently they don't want to improve anything.
Maxon is playing with us. I don't see anything important in this Cinema 4d release. Let's look at an example from Houdini 20.0 to Houdini 20.5 brought tons of new and powerful things, in less than 1 year.
Seriously wtf has Maxon been doing? Blender gets more exciting features added on a monthly basis than C4D does in a year. Look at the leaps forward in Houdini's new release. Meanwhile Maxon is just drip-feeding stuff that's been standard in other softwares for years now. How about some AI integration? Something innovative, anything
oh god, c4d is getting lame...bring real updates back...for real...in this rythm houdini and blender will win over the market and c4d will get extremely tight, lose market momentum and eventually become poorer and poorer...the association with redshift is also a bad idea, should've worked on an internal render system that's independent from arnold, redshift, vray etc. much like blender is. words of wisdom or truth, hate me or learn from this comment. bring texture to volume, animated svg to vectorizer back, being able to import animated svg to mesh directly etc. there are so many things u guys can improve on.
Nah you're right. give it 3-5 years and C4D will be like 3dsmax. gone and only aging artists using it. Already many studios are switching to blender. maxon are fking useless
