I feel sometimes professors cater to these students who are entitled and complain way too much. I am currently in my last year of being a nursing student and it is so annoying how some people act. Some students out here trauma dumping to their professors about why their assignment is being turned in late. I had some students who would try to make an excuse to the professor being like “ I did not know we had a test today can I do later”. Students would cheat on the quizzes. And I’m so disappointed on whoever fired a male professor for the dumbest thing….. he didn’t gave an exam review. He did have a blue print but not an exam review for this one exam. It could be because he was sick, family problems, and etc. I don’t know, but I honestly don’t care because everyone did great in the exam but the certain people who did not study blamed it on the professor. The reason I said male professor, is because he is a minority in the nursing field where it is predominantly female.

💯No lies told in this video. Please do another vlog/day in the life of a professor video. You took us to campus in one video, and I enjoyed it.

Agreed, if my students havent put the work in there’s nothing I can do for you. Missing required remediations, leaving lecture early etc….Students have to understand nursing school is a sacrifice on perosnal-fun time. I’m not padding grades period! Put the work in.

@@thenurselounge I don't know where to start because I enjoy majority of your content. I am a nursing student working on my second Bachelor's. I enjoy your videos encouraging Black nurses/students and asking us to work harder. I love that you embrace your personality and you're not changing it to appease someone else. This is something I'm working on. I'm in my 40s working on this smh. Hopefully in the near future, you will write a book encouraging Black nurses/students.

Im a MSN-Ed starting my first position as an educator while I complete my DNP. I am binge watching your videos. My husband has been a nurse almost 30 years, I’ve been a nurse almost 20 and we have watched with dismay, particularly the last 5 years or so, as new nurses don’t seem to know how to properly prioritize and then the end up in charge or management positions within a year of becoming a nurse and they still don’t know how to think.

And this is part of the reason we have NGN coming. Some of these students aren’t able to critically think bc of instructors making it easy on them.

Almost all education, even STEM fields, are being watered down. You pay even more and get even less. My mom was a nursing student in the 70s and she said it kicked her ass, then she worked as a nurse part-time in medical school in the 80s, she is INCREDIBLY hard (obsessive) working. Whenever she runs into a lot of current nurses and doctors, younger ones, she's incredibly disappointed and baffled at the lack of independent critical thought, it's just adhere to policies and charting. Now granted, there are still PLENTY of great knowledgeable nurses who are very interested in their specialty and helping patients get good outcomes. But unfortunately, it's just like a lot of women, mainly, who pursue nursing just for the financial and career stability, nothing wrong with that if you can still provide a satisfactory service but... If you're just or primarily in nursing for the money then it will show.
In an ideal patient centric world, I'd love to be a postpartum nurse, I think I could do it but I do struggle with an LD in math (I know it sounds incredibly pathetic, but despite getting high As in remedial algebra, I had to drop college algebra twice, math and chemistry were struggles even with tutoring, but thanks to an excellent chem tutor I graduated highschool lol). What a shame this holds me back bc I don't know why one would need to spend much effort on complex equations and concepts even in nursing. You just input a bunch of stuff in a computer or put the right values in a standard equation to figure out dosages (but doctors prescribe them anyways so ...). Anyhow, I'm 32 now and although I've been told I could write like a grad student as a college freshman, I love thoroughly learning about topics of interest, with 3 kids and a complicated situation, I'm not sure what to do with my life and career moving forward.
Honestly, I always wanted to do case management and social work, to avoid the mess and constant "gross" factor, however it's just been taken over by ideologues who overtly disregard the facts in favor of their new religious zeal for social justice clownery that ultimately harms those they claim to advocate for.

You are absolutely correct! If you’re interested in being a nurse don’t let the math stop you. You can do it.

Do you feel the current teaching strategies being pushed is contributing to watering down nursing education? eg CBC vs rigorous/comprehensive instruction?

Great question! I think we have some subpar educators to say the least. The same thing you see at the bedside is what you see in education. Some schools will hire anybody because of the shortage of faculty. You are also correct because fundamentally many educators don’t do much of any follow up education themselves and teaching students very old practices.
