In the end, the camera moves to the attic, revealing that Peter wasn't the killer, in fact the killer is still in the attic without suspecting a thing. The credits rolls with the phone ringing from the beginning on the film
if it had blood and gore it would not be a good horror comedy christmas movie cuz it has kids in it and its PG-13, it would be disappointing to the people who love christmas horror comedies
Krampus should be higher on the list. Even though Black Christmas is a classic, Krampus is a definitive Christmas horror movie. It plays out as a family Christmas movie gone to hell. Not only does it feature folklore and makes all of the iconic elements of Christmas creepy, but it has a very relevant & timeless message about the holiday season. In it's roots, it's another heartwarming Christmas movie, but it just happens to feature some freaky creatures.
Jessica Johnson Yeah , it was honestly such a good and enjoyable film in my opinion . But I think the reason was because it was a Horror Comedy and there was a bit more Comedy. Maybe if it was a full on Horror Film , it would be higher on the list . But at least that's what I think .
Nearly all Christmas horror films are campy and fun. "Black Christmas" is different. It is one of the most chilling, unsettling, and all-around tense films I've ever seen. A masterpiece of the genre.
Black Christmas isn't just the scariest Christmas film, it's one of the scariest films ever. It's tag line is completely spot on: "If this picture doesn't make your skin crawl...it's on TOO TIGHT."
All of you complaining that gremlins isn't scary did not have parents that made you watch it at around two years old. Do you know how terrifying and traumatising that film is to a toddler? Gremlins gave me nightmares for most of my life and although I can watch most horror films with no effect I still cannot watch gremlins due to the trauma it gave me. Gremlins is scary because it was rated incorrectly
Pom meu i feel you spiritually, especially when you're 4 and your dad puts a gizmo doll behind your face so when you get scared and turn around during the movie, a gremlin is right there. Ugh
It wasn't the first horror movie I watched, don't remember what was. I started watching horror movies when I was 4 and by the time I was 10-12 or so I didn't find 1 of them the least bit scary. Whenever I watch them I can't help but burst out laughing at them, and I usually look for the "scariest" ones made. Not sure my first, but Child's Play, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser and Halloween I had watched before I was through the first grade. After those I was always trying to find horror movies to watch to see if I would get scared, to this day I haven't been aside from a few jump scares in movies.
john askins yeah I really don't find most horror films at all scary, it's just that one lol. My personal faves are clockwork orange (although it's more psychological) and Friday 13th
My list would be as follows: 10) Silent Night(2012) 9) P2(2007) 8) Rare Exports(2010) 7) Dead End(2004) 6) Wind Chill(2007) 5) Christmas Horror Story(2015) 4) Santa’s Slay(2005) 3) Krampus(2015) 2) Gremlins(1984) Honourable mentions: Blackout(2007); The Children(2008); Elves(1989); Better Watch out(2016); To All A Good Night(1980); Saint(2010); Silent Night Deadly Dead(1984); Silent Night Zombie Night(2009); Cadaver Christmas(2012); Christmas Evil(1980) 1) Black Christmas(1974)
Ozymandias They attempted to do it, but it was just one of those movies that can be ruined easily by a failed reboot so Joe Dante and Spielberg didn't want to risk it.
Black Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie of all time. So damn creepy. Thankfully Watchmojo left out all of the unnerving parts of the movie for those who have yet to watch it.
I am so glad that Gremlins made it onto the list. When I first watched it when I was little, I watched it in my room, alone, sitting on the floor, and with the lights out. I was so traumatized that I would have to keep my closet light on while I sleep.
I FINALLY watched Krampus last night after 3 years of waiting, and it was just as enjoyable as I thought it would be!! An instant holiday classic!!!!!!
Артём Попов I agree. Gremlins is more funny than scary. Gremlins is about as scary as The Nightmare Before Christmas (which didn't even qualify for this list).
Great choices! 'Krampus' is awesome! #6 is the sort of film that goes overlooked a lot, so I'm glad it gets its due on this list! I had completely forgotten about #3, that one's hilarious!
Black Christmas is the ultimate Christmas horror movie. It's dated now I realise but what a good movie. A creepy old film, especially the phone calls then when you find out where they are coming from. Edited just to say before someone else reminds me, yes there was a remake (forgotten for a reason).
Well there's another remake that was released in 2019 and it's made Black Christmas (2006) look like hot chocolate with marshmallows and a candy cane in it and plate of Christmas cookies.
Sonic Gamer since always...those little fucks don't freak you out?! Idk maybe it was cuz I was the perfect age for them..5+ the kitchen scene in the first one completely freaks me out even still! And on that note..the second was way more tame.
Silent Night Deadly Night still a classic. I remember my mom renting it for Christmas from our local video store. It was the best Christmas movie I ever saw and one of scream queen Linea Quigley's best dying scenes.
How can Gremlins, Jack Frost, Santa's Slay, and Silent Night Deadly Night be considered to be scary? May I remind you, Jack Frost had a killer snowman who rapes someone (which is stupid), Gremlins was intended for comedy, not just horror, and remember what Silent Night Deadly Night's sequel had? A stupid line that has become a meme... you know what line I am talking about... Also, Santa's Slay was more hilarious than scary.
Gremlins is pretty unsettling. Until the nightclub scene. Then it's just straight-up hilarious, and I love it. XD Note though. Gizmo is a Mogwai. The rest of them are Gremlins. It's like a caterpillar and butterfly thing.
I don't mind horror in Christmas like anything would've scared me or making myself disturbed. I do appreciating those filmmakers doing their horror Christmas themed movies. Great list, Mojo.
I'm very happy to see A Christmas Horror Story on the list and more than happy to see Rare Exports! And I'm extremely happy to see Dead End, even if only in the honourable mentions!
The remake of Black Christmas isn't underrated. It really is bad. Having seen every (theatrical) American horror remake to date, Black Christmas is among the worst of the lot in my book.
I just watched Krampus and A Christmas Horror Story a couple days ago. Both were actually pretty good and with really good twist endings that I sure as hell did not see coming.
Gremlins is a horror/dark comedy classic and one of my all time favorites! I also love Krampus and Santa's Slay. I keep meaning to watch Silent Night, Deadly Night ...maybe this is the year....and Jack Frost as a perverted snowman?? Interesting.
Silent Night Deadly Night should have been #1, I think its actually one of the more interesting slasher films of the 80's because the hero is also the villain and his story is psychological and tragic where as Black Christmas is often praised simply for being one of the first of its kind but in all fairness the movie is dated, poorly paced and the characters are unlikeable.
I didn't like silent night deadly night much.the whole series is a mess.first is half decent and the rest are just stupid.i remember when i was a kid seeing the vhs cases at the video store and thought they were terrifying horror classics based on cover art.when i actually rented them what a let down.it has it's place in horror history but yeah can't love every movie lol
Personally, I think the SCARIEST and MOST LAUGHABLE movie around Christmastime is "It's a Wonderful Life" with the actor and comedian, Jimmy Stewart! Enough said!
The ending of Black Christmas (1974) always give me the chills
JLacay what is it
In the end, the camera moves to the attic, revealing that Peter wasn't the killer, in fact the killer is still in the attic without suspecting a thing. The credits rolls with the phone ringing from the beginning on the film
Don't spoil the movie dick head
billy lives and is in the attic in the end and she gets a phone call
JLacay then the remake will probably do that too but worse
I loved Krampus but I really wish it would have been rated R.... It needed more blood and gore in it.
jdbabyv3 I hate krampus it's so b rated
I agree. Disappointing too because Trick R Treat had tons of great blood and gore effects.
Non of them were scary
if it had blood and gore it would not be a good horror comedy christmas movie cuz it has kids in it and its PG-13, it would be disappointing to the people who love christmas horror comedies
Harleigh19 Krampus need a movie directed for Rob Zombie or John Carpenter
Krampus should be higher on the list. Even though Black Christmas is a classic, Krampus is a definitive Christmas horror movie. It plays out as a family Christmas movie gone to hell. @@benhamilton1156 I was gonna say the exact same thing
Krampus is great.
One of the few movies that mixes horror, comedy and that jolly spirit perfect.
That movie got the Naughty version on 4K Blu-ray with never before seen footage than the previous PG-13 version.
I don't know if jack frost is as much scary, as it is dumb and ridiculous
Especially that shower scene. So bloody stupid...
I found the British one
Cynical Brandon all Christmas horror movies are shit Christmas isn't meant to be made scary
idiot troll
the 1998 version is way more horrifying in all honesty
I really think Krampus should've been higher on this list

Bob Clark is a golden filmmaking director. Period.
Hey Black Christmas. ..a solid classic. .
TERRY. W Saw the remake before the orignal and both are me but agree the original is better to watch.
@@informationage559 I ain’t being a smartass but gore in 1974 isn’t easy to make

Krampus is my newest favorite Christmas movie.
Shane Warner Same when I saw it, I laughed my ass off
" looks like Martha Stewart threw up in here" 😂😂😂 I died at this part
