Man I just wish the mayor would sit down and listen instead of yelling at everyone about her “lived experience” and so on. You live here, you don’t wanna be responsible, you seem to have something going on with the stenographer, we got it like 5 paragraphs ago
Mayor Parker’s handling of this meeting was deeply disappointing, marked by a lack of humility. Her pride in claiming a transparent process is ironic, given that nothing about this project is truly transparent. The real impact on the economy and the surrounding neighborhoods remains unclear, and the concerns of the community have been brushed aside rather than meaningfully addressed. We had to wait 254 days after she took office to be scolded and be told that her handling of the process is beyond reproach.
I lived in Chinatown for most of my childhood and I was there when Chinatown protested spring garden stadium build. The reality is US cities are dying and CRE is not coming back. Cites need tax revenue and if center city goes so goes Chinatown
We are not in disagreement about revenues and economic revitalization, we are talking about this specific project: an arena used at most 100 nights a years with a low to zero economic impact to the city. Another box with no first floor storefronts in one of the most pedestrian cities in the country you might as well recreate the suburbs in the heart of Philadelphia.
ppl would rather have 100% of nothing than 80% of something. I was around when the gallery was a “@&)hole before greyhound station existed. So what does market street foot traffic look now after new gallery rebuilt? Nothing. Chinatown is fighting for preservation of its existence. It had 50 years to do that. Chinatown has no solutions other than keeping storefronts already empty
@@bitcoindaddy1 chinatown protested the vine st expressway. they protest everything. however they do not vote or strongly endorse candidates capable of wining. They endorsed Helen Gym. Mayor Parker won in an overwhelming landslide, not with center city or chinatown. But from working class black and brown neighborhoods who are often forgotten who are seeking good union jobs. Mayor Parker is one of the most confident, strong willed and visionary mayors our city has had in decades.
I love Mayor Parkers leadership and strengh in controlling this townholl to be orderly and respectful. This project will bring good paying union jobs. Remember Center City and Chinatown didnt’t even endorse or support Mayor Parker. They endorsed Gym and Rhyhart and Mayor won in a landslide with overwhemling black and brown votes. Lets be clear, black people never wanted to defund we just want to be safe and for the police to do their jobs with integrity. I applaud the mayor for convening all groups before approving this project.
SHE'S NOT GONNA MAKE A MOVE UNTIL THE WHITE MEN IN CHARGE TELL HER WHAT TO DO..PERIOD! THAT'S HOW POLITICS WORK...WHEN WILL PEOPLE REALIZE THAT SHE IS JUST A FIGURE...PERIOD!
She didn't even have to do this tbh, nobody meets with us when all the black and brown communities get gentrified and people are displaced they just take over with no town hall... Our schools need the money and that whole corridor is like a ghost town on a regular basis and if the city loses a major professional sports team under her watch the unions won't forget she'll never hold another elected job in this city
The 76er are a staple of this city just an idea fix up graffiti Pier it's a beautiful landscape it's in the city there more space there then the propose site that they want to do in center City not to mention there's actually a very old railroad system there they can actually put another Subway. There. An the city is building house by the river WOW
i get the culture they want to preserve, they also have to understand they are the only culture that has their own section of the city. There are no sections carved out for people of color you won't find a Africa town or jamaica town or little havana or mexico town and whether or not a arena gets built the fashion district if empty and something will take over where it is. Losing the arena will lose revenue that affects schools for the entire city you can't be selfish and have to look at the bigger picture gentrification is coming, it's come to everyone's neighborhoods they have the most to gain from this arena it will bring so much business from visitors and people who otherwise would not go down there to chinatown I think they are looking at it wrong look at all the foot traffic you will gain and the reality is, if the fashion district was as busy as it used to be, and as busy as their capacity was built to handle its the same amount of people
that area is tragically underdeveloped and needs revitalization. Finally some real action is being paid to it, and a bunch of white people who don't live there think its poverty should be preserved. Parker's failure to bring that area out of destitution will be hers alone if she doesn't approve.
A total lie: " bunch of white people who don't live there". Have you been to the rally or watch the people in attendance at the meeting and those who spoke?
