Yeah, but you've shortened the time it will stay purple. Only so much to oxidize and when it's gone it's gone. Just let it sit in the sun for a day an get the same results, but it's only surface level, making the color last longer. At least I think it does.
I have never tried this. I wipe it down with acetone and lay it in direct sunshine for several hours and it turns more purple. I will give this a try.
I’m about to use some Purple Heart for the first time. Never worked with it and wanted to. Super stoked to have seen this!
Brilliant, isn't it?😃 Just did this yesterday, actually baked mine for an hour & 20-30.Super rich colour right through!👌🏻
Never knew this. I thought that only putting it in direct sunlight in warmer weather would do that.

Torrifaction or roasting is a popular thing. I’ve seen it done with ash a lot as well
I know dude that used to throw his weed in the dryer inside a pillowcase to make it turn more purple 😅
Does this change any of the other properties of the wood? Such as how the wood responds to routing or sanding?
I set for 30 minutes. It can be too dark depending on finish... Like resin for example.
I'm doing this right now.
Cookin the wood!
How do you keep purple heart from changing to brown over time. Are there finishes that can prevent this?

So disappointing to me that purple heart and Padauk fade overtime
It turns brown shortly.
