My favorite thing about Louis CK is how well he plays-down how insightful and smart he is. It's almost like he knows he has to hold something back, that people will get jealous and try to tear him apart if they ever found out just how easy all of this comes to him.
This conversation compared to Marc's with Seinfeld is clouds and stars above. What I always liked about Louie was his insightfulness towards those events in life that change our focus and direction. He has such clarity and ability to articulate that you actually simply visualize what he means, right in the moment. Marc has empathy that pulls you in the way he so quickly grasps the meaning behind spoken words. What a great conversation, interview, whatever it was. Bravo.
It all comes down to the person being interviewed and what they're willing to share, not the person interviewing them. Louie's the man. Hence "the People's comedian"

I always thought he was the funniest man I'd ever heard speak. Although his show "Lucky Louie" was pretty funny, it didn't really live up to Louie's material. So I didn't know what to expect out of "Louie". Well, Louie is the greatest show of all time in my opinion. After watching this interview I see why. It's because he loves EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of production as much as anyone has ever loved anything. Lead actor, director, writer, producer, editor, technician. Jesus Christ, Allah and Lord Brahma couldn't collaborate to do what he does. And as with Maron, Louis CK came out of some very dark holes. After having done the same hour of "shitty material" (his words, not mine. I love almost all of his material) and not progressing, he was at the end of his rope. Inspired by Carlin, he decided to jump into the deep end of the comedy pool and throw out all of his material and start fresh. The way he put this experience was something like "It was very difficult to throw out my material. Sure, it was a pile of shit, but it was MY pile of shit. I think it's just the way he says it that makes you think he knows. At least the comment about Christians destroying the library of Alexandria and the Muslims saving all the artifacts. The Library of Alexandria was burned by the Romans first, like 50 years before Christianity. Some of it survived (it wasn't all held in one place), and part of that was burned by the Christians. Then most of what was left was destroyed by the Muslims. Look it up if you are interested, everyone was burning everything back then.

@@Dianimations_ What exactly are you saying he was "sentenced to"? Yes, there were limitations placed on his career for his actions, and I will personally lose no sleep over someone receiving negative consequences for bad behavior. Marc himself said it better than anyone in his response on WTF. These women were at work. Trying to do their jobs in what is already a male-dominated industry. The interview is beautiful and very easy to connect to. I don't have anything either except you sound like a good man and I hope your hope pans out just the way you wish. Good luck!
Can Anyone suggest more stuff like this? interviews or books or series or whatever that talk about these kind of emotional problems? I don't know what it is exactly that I love about this interview... I really love how humble or brave is Louis ck in being able to talk about his selfishness and his flaws, most people won't talk about these problems or would just avoid thinking about them or would just make up excuses that justify the bad things they do, but Louis just go straight to the point and tells his long time friend what he feels, about their relationship, I have never seen things like this, it feels like watching a sad scene from bojack horseman, the opposition between the need of human connection and the fact that we are selfish and sometimes hurt others... most people wouldn't admit their selfishness, but I love how Louis can point out the problems inside himself and inside his friend without caring for appearing an asshole or a liar
I can tell you what you love about it. You live in the West where shallow she unoriginal thought is 99.9999% of all conversation. This is two people exploring the unknown about themselves and eachother to discover real genuine value. There are 100s of millions of people right now talking about their bullshit sports team, or a boxing bout, or the Kardashians. To find conversations exploring the human condition in an honest way like this is a rare treasure.
Brilliant and fascinating interview, guys. I think it's great that you feel comfortable sharing such personal conversation publicly. Keep up the great work, both of you :O)
I hate to say it, but I don't particularly like Marc Maron. But I can hear the respect in his voice, and i'm not sure i've ever heard that from him. I'm glad I listened to this, I feel like it humanizes Marc in a way that I wouldn't have got to experience any other way.
I don't have total hatred for Marc, but he comes off as overeager. There's always something "needy" about him. The "yeah yeah yeah" and the occasional interruptions have basically become a joke in the comments. But it comes from a real desire for Mark to express himself, and help other people express themselves. It's one of those cases where his greatest strength is also his biggest weakness.

John McClane I love that bit, one my all time favs!
"Water is good because it washes away your love for your children"
Just brilliant. one moment he has you welling you up and cracking up with laughter the next.
I've listened to this too many times... Keep coming back to it
Louie is still a good guy. I hope he's not having too hard of a time. I'm not one to think about famous ppls private lives but I feel for him. What's being done to him is wrong. Aziz also.
Yeah, it was total bullshit. Like the same people that would crucify you for "slut shaming" want to destroy a lifetime of work from a man with a mild sexual "perversion".
yeah, the last 5 minutes are brutal honest
can we get back on track or what? gets me every time
If you're listening to this after his MeToo scandal, pay attention to the trumpet story at 54:11
Thank God for podcasts. As a guy from Sweden I've missed legendary radio with Howard Stern and Larry King and I'm sure alot more, and now we get this. Podcasts or radio is so personal and captivating, love it.
I would love to watch that movie about the bearded woman
Me too
he used an amx card to buy a bmw and stay at the ritz when he couldn't get into his apartment ROFL
Everyone once and a while you have to say what the fuck and just do it. Only way to even come close to keep your sanity. Good luck out there
Seeing Marc Maron without a stache weirds me out a little.
Linda Niemkiewicz okay anti-Semite
Holy crap. Yeah, the mustache makes sooooo much sense now.
It should
@@TomDavidMcCauley Ohh no not racism
Dustin Risinger exactly. Nobody wants that shit
My 2 favorite comedians Reminiscing . So cool to hear my idols chat and tell stories of what they've been through. Very inspiring and informative.
This is the best thing on the internet! Thank you
"Water's good, it washes away your love for your children". Perfect comedy in every way.
It's technically the opposite, since it perverts a natural healthy behavior. Good humor does the reverse generally by creating resolution.
amazing interview. Louis's a fascinating dude
Southern Nihilism What a great fucking interview. Real eye opener. I learned a lot. Very informative. Thank you for putting this up.
I cried the moment Louis started to cry........
I think this is my favorite podcast episode ever
This was awesome, i am stuck at home with a fever, couldn't being happier.
CUENTAENELSOL Sitting in my kitchen, rampant fever and just had my third bowl of yoghurt with no energy to prepare anything else. It's funny how this gem has gilded others sickness before me :)
that telling yourself that your just anxious. is really helpfull. was so glad I watched this show i came back found this video just to say it.
There's gonna be a movie about Louis some day
Theres a series :) better than a movie.
Not any more...
8251ar 2 years after this comment its really hard to see that
@@thisguyblake7696 disagree. Every great movie needs retribution.
The more I watch Louis CK clips, the more I find him absolutely brilliant. Such profound and riveting insight.
Thank you so much for posting.
At almost 1 hour Louie get's emotional talking about his baby. That's how great of a person he is! Not only as a comedian. ;)

that was sweet.
This comment hasnt aged well
I put this on every night to fall asleep. I just put it on and then I pass out how soothing this is.
I'd watch the shit out of "Annie's Beard."
"Annie's Beard" should be made! Never give up, Louie!
This was the best podcast episode I've ever heard
Marc hit the nail on the head at the 41:00 mark.
exactly
"We all have kids now except for you. Sorry."
😂😂😂😂
That ending was beautiful man.
goddamn it was
Louis is a good guy, man.
cursivedubline5 sorry man
Hi, I'm from the future. In 2017 we say that sarcastically.
Razvan Radu he's still fucking interesting to listen to which is the weird thing. The truth fits so easily into his life. Its like he's been completed or something. A bastard though.
cursivedubline5 He still is a good guy. He just made a mistake.
cursivedubline5 and he still is. Asking for consent and getting it is not a crime. Doing something stupid and fully allowing the women to exit the situation is somewhat bad but nowhere near Spacey or Weinstein.
This is one of the best interviews I've ever heard
Incredible podcast. I think it was really brave to go where both of you did with this. Rare to see people talk this personally in on radio.
I love this show. These two are some of my comedy heroes and this is like a workshop
I love that they talked about their friendship. Friends go through ups and downs. We are so fortunate that this is a part of life. And we can still love through the ups, and the downs.
That beard movie absolutely sounds like something i would watch the shit out of
Best interview I've ever heard! Thanks to both of you!
The whole “found street computer” story including you guys finding it, talking to him and telling the story sounds like a really good PT Anderson movie. Or a meh play in off broadway. Either way it’s worth hearing CK talk about it now.
The strain on their friendship over the years and the awkward way things are between them now makes me more uneasy than it should
Louie is the comedian of our generation, our generation tried to 'cancel' him, but i know his legacy will keep on going
There's no avoiding the fact that he did some disgusting shit and damaged a lot of people with his actions.
@@MylesMarrero He asked some women if he can jerk off and they said yes. It's off putting and gross but nothing even close to what he was sentenced to do. Let's discuss limits and boundaries to how far we can go to execute people.
No one should have to be asked if they want to see someone else's dick when they go to work. Especially someone who is undeniably on the side of a power dynamic with less power.
@@MylesMarrero I get what you're saying, so i'm not gonna engage. I've had my share of 'he should go to jail' and 'he's a rapist' and 'he should die' arguments in the past. Keep your morals, it's good to have them. But it's better to balance them with common sense.
@@Dianimations_ I fail to see what part of "actions have consequences" falls outside of common sense to you. He did something bad, and he received a negative consequence for that. What is there for you to take issue with? I'm not advocating for death threats towards anyone but anyone who abuses the system which they hold power in to impose themselves on other people deserve a bad outcome for that.
1:05:00 is where he starts to get emotional about his daughters.
+Snrub And?
+Snrub THANK YOU
+Snrub I like the way Snrub thinks.
I didn't expect that. He's such a honest dude.
The water joke got me 😄
His movie idea about the girl with the beard actually sounds really interesting. They way he explains it makes it into a discussion about many cultural topics and taboo.. I like it he should have made it
Holy shit the ending there got very real. He just called his old best friend a shitty friend straight up, then they accepted it, apologized, and reconnected. Damn. So real. =;(
Holy shit! Make Annie's Beard!
Matthew Ryan-Powell I know, right?
Lol the premise behind the "Annie's Beard" script is so awesome
ghettoslider it's almost Kaufman-esque which makes sense because they used to work together
wooooah... best interview I've heard in a long, long, long time.
@56:40 , I've listened to this at least once a year since it was released. I find new meaning and wisdom in these words with each new encounter.
I lived in the Atrium building on Bleecker street! I probably lived there the same time he did. Crazy!
It's weird that I'm just discovering this podcast. There are so many big names on the WTF podcasts, so how is it not more popular?
The fact that Louie refers to this podcast as "This Round" of your friendship demonstrates that this is power play for life. I love this Capulet & Montague story. You're both awesome, you did great.
So sweet at the end. Be friends guys. It's hard to replace these kind of friendships.
I love both your current shows Marc and Louis CK b/c you are honest, candid, and deep while so funny. This podcast demonstrates how sensitive and creative. I have to say this you are two philosopher poets. You are
Amazing interview. Can't believe I haven't encountered it earlier
"I bought a BMW on an Amex"
God damn Louie
I wrote Marc Maron once, I asked him what should I do if I wanted to become a stand up comic, he answered: "Get up on stage", and I sware I could read "you fucktard" in the end of the email, even though that wasn't written in there.
Thanks Marc.
1:05:40 - Great moment, followed by the best joke.
After a while Maron starts to sound like Jerry Springer.
No... Pretty much not at all... He sounds like Marc Maron.
My favourite of Maron's podcasts, speaking as a huge Louis CK fan. Multi-dimensional, great interview. Thanx for posting this..haven't heard it in years.
Just got a daughter, this interview is beautiful. That's it. I don't have anything more insightful than that, I just hope I do a good job raising her.
Just “got”?!.....
The interview is beautiful and very easy to connect to. I don't have anything either except you sound like a good man and I hope your hope pans out just the way you wish. Good luck!
this was an amazing conversation. ending is so beautiful
Man, this was deep. Props to Marc Maron for putting it up.
i fucking love this!!!! many thx for uploading
you just made my day
This is beautiful. Those lines at the end were delivered in tonight's show perfectly.
Jonathan Guzman love the Jhonen Vasquez profile pic. Yes
I love hearing marc maron just die of laughter
Brilliant and fascinating interview, guys. I think it's great that you feel comfortable sharing such personal conversation publicly. Keep up the great work, both of you :O)
I hate to say it, but I don't particularly like Marc Maron. But I can hear the respect in his voice, and i'm not sure i've ever heard that from him. I'm glad I listened to this, I feel like it humanizes Marc in a way that I wouldn't have got to experience any other way.
Holy shit. l have no recollection of typing this crap. Alcohol is a hell of a drug
I've never heard a more honest interview
That conversation about being a shitty friend if you're jealous was real talk
Louis CK is a big inspiration to me. I am not a comic, but you know. He's just a real human being.
I hope one day you may also become a real human.
