Good luck on the IAT. This trail feels very European. Good signposting, clear trails, not too hilly, lot of places to sit and rest. Cruisy miles!

Good sir. I want to thank you for filming the walk of IAT ! Being a cheesehead I think you are the only person whom ever chronicled the entirety. I wish for you and IAT less road needs to be used. I tried to section the upper Kettle Moraine in July, SB (the part you enjoyed much). Mosquitos and the deer/horse flies bit through the t shirt and drew blood when swatted to kill them. BTW saw the same shelter you checked out because you didn't have to walk far to see it. Again thank YOU!

Yea I was stoked to see the shelter systems in this area, could not camp in one because did not get the permits coordinated but they seemed really well taken care of and clean. If I would have done it differently would have definitely tried to stay in one of those shelters on a nice night!

Thank you for the great documentation, Constantine! I'm in my 50s and my husband is in his 60s. We're starting to talk about through-hiking the IAT when we retire (hopefully in about 5 years), and started looking at the first handful of days after the start in St Croix Falls, and were a little concerned about the lack of sleeping sites and other resources. Another person in an IAT group pointed me to your videos. Just seeing things like that camping site in Centuria is so helpful and reassuring for this older hiker considering her first thru-hike. :)
Mosquitos are the state bird of Wisconsin. When I moved to Oakland CA, I couldn't comprehend windows with no screens and houses with no heat.
It BLEW MY MIND! That first 400 miles, I felt like I may go insane, any time I stopped for 5 seconds I could have sworn they could have picked me up and flown me away there were so many.
You and Magpie should be great on the GDT maybe next year. Go get that passport!
When I was a kid I lived on the Northern Kettle Moraine section of the trail. I think it’s the nicest part of the trail too.

I remember how bad mosquitoes were on a ice age segment I was on in summer , that area had a ton of water so they were just on attack mode non stop , gotta get that bug spray
I have the bug spray.... I’m trying the technique of out running them but sadly it just doesn’t work!

Dear Constantine, Thank you for creating your youtube channel! I am inspired by you and I will be following suit when the time is right! I live in Wisconsin and plan to go south (warmer temps and hopefully not too many bugs) for my first big hike. I haven't hiked anything yet and I am legally blind, so it is sure to be an adventure! If you are on FB, lmk your name on there, please. I would like to follow your adventures there, too. I should clarify: I have hiked up the Ausengate (Andes) mountains in Peru over the course of 3-4 days. We summited at 15,000 feet. I hike around my little DePere, WI (went to a couple Ice Age Trail portions you walked on different occasions to check them out), but nothing like the through-hikes you do. I have my gear--mostly and now I am awaiting the big push....thanks for your work!

whew the IAT in summer?!?! Doable for sure but...... depends how much you want to embrace the suck...if I had my preference would of much preferred to do it in late fall

Thanks for Watching! I am glad you are thinking about doing the Ice Age Trail there is so much to see and enjoy out there!
As for food I did not carry that much at all due to being able to pass a gas station or convenience store every day or so. I believe the longest food carry I had was 4-5 days and after that it was literally like every day or so. I carry a odor proof food bag, but I would recommend some areas hanging the bear bag, I did hear bears and saw many bear tracks and signs especially in the Western part of Wisconsin until the town of Antigo.
