I don’t know how to explain this but you radiate this energy that really reminds me of Griffin McElroy and I love it so so much
I was looking to make small butterfly wings to decorate mini Top Hat Fascinators, and I came upon fairie wings. I am so glad I did. I may try to make these as well, but maybe half the size as I am in a wheelchair. I do have ideas now. Thank you for sharing.
Have a lovely day!
Omg I love this tutorial. You assumed we are not all experts…we aren’t !!! I’m super excited to attempt this. I had a VERY specific fairy idea and was not going to find the perfect wings
same !!! i hope your wings turned out okay !!
This is such a great idea! I'm going to use this idea as the basis to make a pair of insect fly wings. I'm dressing as the 1950s Fly for Halloween. I liked the idea of sandwiching the wire and adhering the cellophane to each other. I didn't know how to keep the two layers from shifting or how to keep them together prior to heating. Thank you!
Thank you!! And yeah the spray adhesive really helped keep everything together!! Good luck with your wings!
This is so perfect, thank you. Making a dark fairy costume, this is sooooo helpful
Ooooh, that sounds so cool!! Have fun! :)
Grimdark?
They actually kinda look more natural with the wires not being straight. I love how they look and I'm gonna use some of this method to make wings for a cosplay I'm doing!
Definitely, I like that thinking! 😊 And that's awesome! Have fun making them, and good luck on the cosplay! ^.^
If you ever want to make sure they stay pointed outwards, use a U shape wire to bind the wings together in the middle
I never thought to just use clear tape. I was always twisting them together and trying to deal with all the knots and wiggly joints.
lol same
Yes!! I went to the effort of sculpting and twisting anatomical bug wings from wire, and trying to shrink wrap them in cellophane, warping the shape and getting the burned wholes she mentioned
Ngl, I didn't think to just use spray adhesive.
I’d recommend foil tape if you’re using just steel/aluminum wire (silver in colour), it’ll look like the pieces are welded together and makes it soooo clean
I didn’t even know there was such thing as spray adhesive?😍 Thanks so muuuuch
Really helpful, thank you. I made wings for a prop and they came out great.
That's awesome!!! I'm glad it was helpful😊😊
I used to roll my wire between a granite board and a piece of wood to flatten it out! You have to do it in sections but it works great and is a cheap fix :)
Oooh that's a great idea!!
doesn't flattening the wire weaken it? And if you don't want them to droop, use galvanized steel wire, 12 g for the outside wires and a smaller g for the veins and solder the joints :)
@@JudysRevenge It may, I haven't tried it yet. I found flattened wire at a craft store and it felt very strong to me, but sadly won't bend the right way to do what I need it to do. I learn by experimenting haha so I may test it with flattened wire, but may not work. And I've tried soldering, but I don't think I was doing it correctly as it wouldn't stick. Now I just use my soldering iron for putting details into foam haha. But thank you so much for the tips!
These are so cool. I didn't get a change to see this on Patreon and nice to see that group is growing.
Wooot!💕
This video helped me so much in making my first pair of wings for cosplay :D Thank you!!
Ahhh yay I'm so glad!!! 💖
I'm hoping to be a fae prince for a friend's party, we're all dressing up. thanks for the tutorial!
Do you know how we're supposed to color these? Just wondering if we're supposed to spray paint it before using the heat gun or once we're done
So happy you wrote back and appreciate your interest in your subscriber's pursuits! I keep coming back to your video because you make this look so easy. I'm gonna get my courage up today and give this a shot. I'm also going to experiment with the solder gun and will keep yall posted on joining the connections instead of using tape. Love the funny part, "they just want to say hello,' lolol You're too stinking cute!
I wish I could give you a second thumbs up. Thank you for the useful tutorial!
How long did it take you? Just checking because I did it with my friend for 6 hours. It was totally worth it ✨🧚♀️✨
Thank you my 1st few were trash but your guide helped me fix my mistakes 😊
Using this tutorial for a cosplay prop, thank you!
This is so cool, thank you.
YOU HAVE A SPINNING CHRISTMAS TREE
Hi there, I love this tutorial! I know it was from 2 yrs ago but I really want to make wings for my wedding, but was hoping to use the fabric that was left over from my wedding dress. Do you have any suggestions for using fabric instead of Cellophane?
You could do mostly cellophane then in a few of the little windows make it the fabric like use spray adhesive to the fabric and cellophane so the fabric is on the inside the ideas of wings made of the wedding dress is really cute
They’re beautiful
Thank you :)
So cool great job.
You're very pretty ♥ love the wings!
Thank you!!
Thank you thank you thank you Ohhh yeah and thank you lol very helpful and easy to follow 💕
I wish you showed the packaging of the floral wire! I’m guessing it’s made of aluminum since it’s so easy to bend but it could be iron?
this is so helpful! thank you 💕
Yay, I'm glad it helped!! 💕
Thank you for teaching how to do this 💗
these are so cute!!
L
ovin it!
Beautiful and what sweet comments you make to us as subscribers/visitors. Question: Have you tried soldering the wire? I think I may look into that, as I just don't know how well tape holds up on wire. Also, who the heck out here can airbrush - won't spray paint do just as well? Is airbrushing hard to learn? Thanks for sharing. Big fan from Florida.
Thank you so much!! And you could definitely solder the wire. I'm not skilled in that though, only electronic soldering which I'm still very new to lol, so sadly I have no advice for that. Another RUclipsr by the name of Yvonne Williams @ Back To Earth creations does a lot more wire work, so I definitely recommend her for that! The tape has held up really well surprisingly, I still have the wings and I've worn them several times! Including to Ren Faires ☺️
And spray paint should work, definitely test it first on some spare cellophane! ☺️
Airbrushing can be complicated at first, and you have to make sure to clean every little piece thoroughly or else you'll spend quite a bit trying to figure out where a clog is lol. I love using it to add some shading or highlighting to armor pieces, it's much easier than trying to blend acrylics, I never got that down right! I do recommend it though, I learned how to airbrush from various RUclips videos! ☺️
These are adorable!
Thank you!
Do you think using solder on the joints would work?
@@sarahbeee5240 I only have experience in doing basic electronic soldering work for LED's, but I did try experimenting with soldering these joints together buuuut they just popped right off. I'm not too sure what really happened as I gave up rather quickly and just taped them lol. I didnt know what I was doing tbh lol. I think with the right materials, it would work. I sadly can offer no more help on that, I'd probably try doing it again that way once I do a little more research! 😊
Forging Smores me too I haven’t done anything this big with solder maybe I’ll give it a try and then wrap with tape. Oh no worries I’ve got no idea either haha
using this for homecoming wish me luck
BEAUTIFUL
Pretty ❤❤
So beautiful, what a great job!
Thank you! :)
Hey lgbtq+’s
Heyoo
oops lovin it
Haha thank you!!💖
beautiful
Thank you 💕
i’m really excited to use this tutorial to make wings for my halloween costume/cosplay!! i’m going as hannahxxrose and i need to tear up wings, and i didn’t want to get cheap ones off of Amazon bc i was afraid they would break too easily
Those are so pretty! Thank you for showing this. Also what kind of paint do you use for airbrushing?
Thank you!!! ☺️ I use watered down acrylics, works really well for me but it can clog the airbrush very easily!
@@ForgingSmores thank you!!!!
Nice 👍🏻
Finally I can go God Tier
So instead of a heat gun I can use a blow dryer on low?
Give it a try! It should work
i love it
Thank u so much!😂
Do you have to make sure the wires stick together by using tape or?
So I've made some rather large wings, but I'm not going to be sticking them down my shirt since I'll be wearing a crop top. What material would you advice I use for the straps to hold up the wings? I basically need to wear them like a backpack
Webbing works really well for straps, it's super strong! You could make them Velcro or snap together to make the wings easier to get on, but it's not necessary.
You could also use satin ribbon for a more elegant look, and it'd be easier to match that to an outfit! I've used both for strapping for lots of different stuff, webbing is just stronger ^.^
@@ForgingSmores not to be an ignoramus, but what's webbing? 😂
@@rachelm9046 haha you're good! It's just a woven fabric, generally about 1" wide that's used for backpack straps/bag straps/ anything that needs a strong strap! Here's a link to an example, but most craft stores will carry some type of it! www.joann.com/1-3-16in-webbing-trim/7880644.html
Love the light music, and everything else. I'd only insist u add voice description a few seconds before u do the actions u mention. Otherwise it's perfect. Thank you.
Thank you for your input!! I'm working on a huge project right now that I haven't edited yet, so I'll keep that in mind. I'm glad you liked it though!! ☺️
You should make a video of how to make sturdier wings for ren fairs. I am a fairy at the Renaissance Festival of Nebraska, and I have made 2 pairs of wings, but they still haven't turned out great. My first pair, the U frame wasn't heavier than the wings themselves, so I had to put an extra wire in, and now I can't wear them because that extra wire shows. My other pair is very fragile and has many holes after only 3 weekends of fair. I know it has been a year since you posted this video, but if you could reply back to help me and give me advice, I would LOVE that! Thank you!
I wrapped my U frame in duct tape to thicken it up and make it a bit stronger, try adding tape or ribbon to cover the wire, if it's exposed on the wings you could use clear tape to tape it down! Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to experiment more with wings but I REALLY want to make a sturdy pair because mine also got a hole or two the last time I wore them to a faire. I kinda just embraced it by heating it up and expanding the hole a bit to make it look worn.
I made another set of wings this year way smaller than these and dragon wing shaped, but I used clear worbla as the shape of the wing and attached the cellophane with spray adhesive and they turned out pretty cute! So that's one way to make them sturdy, it's just that clear worbla can get a tad pricy!
Cellphane is just SO fragile, I wonder if backing it with like a clear vinyl or something would help. I'll update when I can get around to making another pair and kinda go crazy with different methods of putting wings together because I'd REALLY like to remake this video lol.
What brand cellophane did you use? Mine didnt seal good.
You won't get that feeling of accomplishment if it's not hard and the harder it is the more you hone your skills
Can this work with Michael’s Celebrate It™ Transparent Packaging Wrap, Opal ?
Yes! I actually think that's what my very first pair of wings were made out of haha.
Beautiful! It's a bit hard to see how your hooking the wire together though.
Thanks! And they're just taped together with clear tape!
What kind of cellophane is that? And the spray
Do I need to use graphing paper?
Mermaid tail!
I wanna make one so bad!!!
Can you use a hairdryer if you don’t have a heat gun?
It should work!
Okay so let me get this straight cause you worked over the pattern really fast and not close up. You ONLY connect the shaped wire pieces with like clear tape? And it stays?
Yep! Clear packing tape worked really well for holding all the wire together
Obligatory comment to help the channel xD
Haha thanks! 😄
Hello. I just wanted to ask what paint did you use when you were airbrushing? What type of paint?
I use acrylic paint and thin it down with water! :) It can clog up an airbrush pretty fast so just keep that in mind, I just keep it clean and keep a pipe cleaner nearby and have no issues :)
what do you recremend for a fariy tale themed birthday for a 16 year old?
Здравствуйте, подскажите пожалуйста, где купить эту пленку?
could a hair dryer or an iron be used instead of a heat gun? i don’t have one but i do have a hair dryer lol
A hair dryer should work!! ☺️
@@ForgingSmores thanks for responding! how structurally sound should the wings be at the wire and tape stage? im working on mine rn and they feel very flimsy at this stage, like the wire is gonna fall apart at the tape joints
@@julianalicciardi I remember them being a bit flimsy like they'd fall apart also at the tape joints, but the cellophane is what helped keep them together. I don't have them anymore sadly, but I do want to make another pair and make them quite a bit stronger, I wonder if a dab of super glue would help.
@@ForgingSmores hmm i have super glue, maybe i’ll give that a try!
Those turned out so cute! ! When you mentioned glitter I was like *Y A S S S* 😂 The other pair had a cool design to!
What was the song you used at the beginning? It sounded really familiar and I can't place why I think that. Lol I keep wanting to say it's a song from MapleStory but I'm probably wrong. XD
Aww thank you so much!! AND AHHH GLITTER IS THE BEST LOL. I FORGOT TO LINK THE SONG AHHH THANK YOU buy it's actually by Derek & Brandon Fiechter here on RUclips and it's their video 1 hour of Beautiful Fairy music, It's the first song in that video 😊💕 I recommend them for relaxing, chill music!
@@ForgingSmores You're welcome!! Glitter makes everything magical! Especially when it's H 💿 L 💿 😍
OH GOSH I LOVE those guys' music!! I've been subbed to them for a while and they always make the most inspiring music! No wonder it felt familiar! That fairy mix got me into their work! XD Thanks for telling me! I think I'm going to pop on that video right now! It's been a good while since I've heard it! 💖💖
Question. How would you do this for a male? I have a fairy cosplay in the works and obviously need wings and I’m gonna try to make them but I’m not going to wear a corset so how would I mount them?
Very good question and something i unfortunately have no experience in! Off the top of my head, you could make a harness from webbing going around the chest and over the shoulders (harnesses are always just experimentation until you get it right for you!) and have the back be a thermoplastic, attach screws at the middle point of the wings (the point that will be touching your back) and screw them through the thermoplastic and secure with hex nuts. Then you can cut tiny holes in your shirt or whatever you'll be wearing to thread the wings through. So it'd be like screw, shirt, thermoplastic, hex nut. I worry about the weight though, if they're smaller wings than these then it should work. Another way is to do the standard harness with the elastic going over your shoulders like a backpack. You'd see the harness but you can match the elastic to what you're wearing to help hide it a bit more. If you're topless, you could decorate the harness a bit to match the rest of your outfit and it makes it a bit more fun!
I'd love to experiment with that actually, I plan to make another pair of wings this year, I'll try a corset-less option!!! 😊 Sorry for the lack of help, I've only ever experimented with corset supported wings!
Thank you, a lot of good ideas! I’m going to try to go for a seamless attachment 👍🏻
What material you used to sandwich that wire?
hi i want to make a pair and i was wondering how many metres of wire you used ?
How do I find your Amazon affiliate link
Ok....so how many rolls of wire did you end up using? I have a roll of 100 ft but not sure if it will be enough
Almost 4 rolls (15 foot per roll I believe, so 60 total)! I had some leftover after this. My wings were huge though! It all depends on how many veins and details you have. 100 feet should be enough!
what if i skipped the spray adhesive? my country doesnt sell it :/
Do you know if you have Got2BGlued hairspray in your country? Check a drustore in the hairspray section, it's a bright yellow bottle with got2b written on it. It's actually quite similar to a spray adhesive, but for hair XD It should work! If not, some clear drying glue or rubber cement would work :)! Spray adhesive is just faster, it's not necessary! Experiment with scrap cellophane until you find what works best for you!
@@ForgingSmores i actually mixed glue with water and a little bit of dish soap in a spray bottle so now i just hope it'll work tomorrow after i let it dry overnight. :) thanks for replying btw!
Is there a step by step instruction that isn't video?
What cellophane is that?
this is really weird but... the video is completely black for me. i can see the images if i mouse over the red line but the video itself, it's like there's nothing there, did something happen to the video?
RUclips's way of saying "this video is trash" LOL. No really though, that's super strange. I just watched it from my account, and from another account and it was fine. I've had that happen to me on mobile before, I just ended up having to restart RUclips. If it still doesn't work, my friend Yvonne Williams with Back to Earth Creations has a wonderful wing tutorial as well!
What airbrush machine did you use?
It's a Paasche VL series siphon fed airbrush ☺️
Would 14g galvanized wire work?
Yes!! ☺️
Please can you tell me where you buy that cellophane? In the Netherlands they dont have it...
I got mine from Joannes which is a craft/fabric store here! If you have any craft stores nearby, go in and ask if they have any. It's also used for wrapping, so it may be in with the gift wrapping supplies. I'm not sure what stuff you can get from Amazon, I'm sure it's pricy to ship but try searching for cellophane on there and see if you can get some shipped to you www.amazon.com/Pacon-Iridescent-Film-Mother-Pearl/dp/B00Z3N9W62/ref=sr_1_26?keywords=cellophane&qid=1572476487&sr=8-26
I'm sorry I'm not much more help! I tried digging but I just keep getting recommended a Joannes located in Holland, Michigan lol, or just Amazon.
@@ForgingSmores Thank you very much! 🌹🧚♀️
What size of the wire
I forgot to buy adhesive :(
How to connect the wires?
👍🏿
What is the wire is called?
❤️❤️😍😍
I got 20 gauge wire on accident and it’s so flimsy 😭
is it just me or is the tree spinning
The tree spins!
How do u stick the wires together please
Clear tape!
Cellophane is plastic😅???
There are apparently fake, and misnamed cellophane, real cellophane is supposed to burn like a piece of paper instead of shrinking like mine did, since cellophane is actually derived from wood. So, I must have gotten a plastic-based cellophane, I'm just not sure since the label didn't say anything about being "real" or not haha. So no, it's not supposed to be plastic but since I'm in the US and everything is plastic, it's probably a mix of things, labeled as cellophane but is actually plastic. Real cellophane is biodegradable though! :D It's quite an interesting thing to research, surprisingly lol.
I'm also sure you didn't comment this to receive a novel on the confusing life story of cellophane, so I'm sorry LMAO
I ll keep those in mind. Had no idea wood based etc info. Thanks
