I’ve been making wings for close to ten years using this technique. Bravo!! One easy way to keep the cellophane flat is to roll your bottom sheet out, leaving the cellophane attached to the role… Spray that first layer down with the sprayed he sieve and then reverse roll the cellophane back over the top of that and it’ll push all of the bubbles out because you’re still using the cardboard tube. Also, as far as burning the edges… I use a miniature blowtorch which is great because it provides an even concentrated temperature, which works great for burning Various sizes of holes with maximum control in a swift manner. Love the way you used bubble bubble wrap around the base, I’m going to have to give that a try myself!
i just wanted to let you know that i used this tutorial to make wings for my first ever ren faire and they were a huge hit!! i ended using a metallic gold webbed fabric (think veining on wings) to give them a more realistic look and i think it made all the difference. thanks again for this tutorial!!
I have looked at sooo many tutorials and you are the only one that taped down the cellophane and you have the flattest best wings so im glad that i saw this one and learned this trick!
I am a retired cosmetologist, my dryer gets crazy hot, but the heat gun is a great idea it will grab all the way around each vein. Great job they are beautiful!
Hi Aubrey, thank you so much for sharing this awesome video. After looking for thousands of tutorials, I got a lot of boring wings until I hit yours. I followed each of the steps, and I was able to build my first-ever Fairy Wings for my wife's cosplay. I used clear contact paper on the bottom instead of the adhesive over the cellophane and then cellophane on top, though. Cheers. 🥰🥰
Aubrey, I can't tell you how perfect the timing is for this video. I am costuming the Little Mermaid for a local high school and have been stressing about how to make sea creatures. I knew that I would use wire, but had no real concept of how to put them together. This technique is perfect! I always love your tutorials and your art. Thank you for sharing your talent, self and your adorable daughter with us. Much joy to you during the upcoming holidays.
Thank you!! I have been wanting to make a mermaid tail for a few years, but can't sew well enough! (but I would make fins like this, if I ever did!) I know your creatures will be great!!.
I subscribed, somehow I knew you must make wire-wrapped jewelry based on this amazing tutorial I to make wire wrap jewelry so nice to stumble across someone with the same interest.
I'm making a pair of small resting-style pixie wings for a larp event next weekend, I've seen tutorials but this visual aid is fantastic. Thank you for this!
I’m a guy but I just want to dress as a fairy daily. I wanna wear wings like these and elf ears and have colourful hair and cottage core outfits and be confident wearing them 🥺
Thank you SO MUCH! You’re a LIFESAVER! I want to dress up as a fairy for halloween but the wings cost like 50-200 dollars. I love creating things so doing this will be saving me money AND making me have fun. Thanks again❤️
Thank you so much for this tutorial! We are an OSDD system (basically DID with a couple of differences) and there's a fairy alter who is super uncomfortable without wings. But she wants something big and 'correct' compared to the cheap ones we can buy so this tutorial is going to be great for us so we can make her wings to wear so she feels a little less uncomfortable!
@@macyunderwood4868 Yeah that's a good way of describing it. Like she can feel a weight there and feel like she can move the "wings". It's hard to describe other than it makes her feel off when she doesn't have something. Like if you randomly lost a limb you'd still feel it there.
@@nanonova5909 thank you so much for responding! I just wondered because I have a bit of a special interest in researching mental stuff that's connects to the physical, it fascinates me.
I completely get it. We haven’t been diagnosed yet but We have proof to have some form of DID through my girlfriend, and my sister. It was shocking to find out I wasn’t alone in this body, and it explained why I would pass out for days, but anyway, some of the male alters feel uncomfortable being in a female body. And I myself have felt ‘phantom limps’ before. Because inside I have animal ears. But not having them it’s strange.
This is so lovely!! I definitely appreciate the calm music over the timelapse video 🤩 (I’ve never seen that or thought of it but it makes it so much less chaotic feeling.) The wings turned out so beautiful! I’m glad you had so much fun and thank you for posting all the details :)
Your tutorial was SUPER helpful! I had to make some wings last minute and I had never seen this method with ironing and plastic- so I decided to try it out. It worked really well! thank you again!
THESE ARE GORGEOUS! I did something similar a few years ago but the wings were too heavy for the base I made, this helps a lot to show me how you did the back that goes under the corset!! Also I am going to try the layering like you did, hopefully they come out even half as good as yours! Thank you so much!!
This is amazing!! You look incredible! I was so stuck when it came to attaching the cellophane to the wire. It just wasn’t working for me but I will try the towel and flat iron trick. Thank you so much ✨💖🦋
The painting worked amazingly well. I would've expected it to destroy the iridescent effect, but it didn't. That's nice to know. Great job! (As an aside, I would call those cut-ins around the veins "scalloping" but that's the me.)
Thank you!! I am looking forward to creating custom wings for me and my son to show off at Faerie Worlds this summer. Great tutorial and yours are beautiful. I am no longer afraid of working with cellophane...
Have a big convention here in 3 months and have been trying to figure out how to make a giant set of pipevine swallowtail wings for my dnd pixie cosplay. This greatly inspired how I make them, except I'm using solder for a less bulky bond and window tint for a more opaque color (I need to paint the insides and outsides of the wings two totally different patterns)
Firstly your little girl is adorable!! 😊 I really enjoyed watching your video. I've tried making these types of wings in the past, but failed. Now, having watched your very educational how to video, I feel like I can make my wings!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of fairy wing art!!! 😃😃🦋🦋😊😊🐞🐞😎😎
This was a beautiful tutorial! I use to work for bath and body works when they used cellophane and shrink wrap for the gift wrapping process. The best way to get it close without using a flame is using a hair dryer on high for less than a minute but you have to move it around spots as your doing it. But it does work for those who don’t feel comfortable using the candle or the iron.
I loved it😱😍❤ I have a baby so I was laughing so much watching her with the laundry basket on her head. Doing something around them it is an adventure😂🤣😘❤
WOW! I just came across this. . .I'm very impressed; the process of making Wings is actually hard. I've honestly tried and I rather stick to making costumes of sorts. ;) Thanks for sharing this. :)
My mom and i would like to thank you for making your tutorial so easy to follow. These kind of wings are perfect for a cistume ive been planning for over 4 years. If you have a facebook, i would love to send you pictures as for how my wings came out and how they look with my costume. And again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
FINALLY! Someone giving up the "big secret"! LOL Thank you for the tutorial, your wings are amazing!
Thank you!!

My wire keeps bending and won’t stay flat!
By far the easiest tutorial. Used this not only for my wings but doll sized wings too. Thank you!

Sounds so cute! I wanna make a black goth pair and so confused where to start to make them more realistic. Any tips or pictures? Thanks !!

Thank you so much for filming this step by step. I'm planning on making a Dark Crystal cosplay and needed a wings tutorial.
Lol, me too! Are we going to the same convention in February?

Watched this video a thousand times and made some fab wings. Thanks so much for posting. I got so many compliments. (I was a water fairy.)

I'm a children photographer! Planning on making a few of these! Saves me a lot of money! Worth the time! Thanks!!
Fairy kids would be so cute!!!
WOW!! I am impressed. Amazing wings! I love them. Thanks for sharing. :)
Instead of the iron could you use a hair dryer or a heat gun?

same!! i need to tear up my wings tho
These are gorgeous! The craftsmanship on your wings is one of the best I have seen for cellophane. I can't wait to give this a try; thank you!
Thank you!!!

Hey, if you don't mind me asking (please don't feel pressured to answer) does the fairy alter have something like phantom limb syndrome?

Your daughter is my spirit animal lol
Absolutely brilliant. I was brainstorming ideas with fabric, tulle, hosiery...and I never would have thought of cellophane. B R I L L I A N T!

when the first 5 seconds blows you away!!!

AW! Thank you!!!!
I believe you can use a blow dryer on high heat to shrink cellophane as well. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
so cute that your baby is there too. THat's how i feel, working with a baby can be a bit tough at times. wings came out beautiful
Your tutorial was SUPER helpful! I had to make some wings last minute and I had never seen this method with ironing and plastic- so I decided to try it out. It worked really well! thank you again!
