Squall's "Gunblade" is a work of art. Seriously, whoever at SquareSoft, at that time, thought: "Hmm, how do we out-do Cloud's "Buster Sword"?

Squalls gunblade is based on a sword gun that exists in real life. Its smaller but it's a short sword with a functional pistol attached to the side.
Actually a gun sword was really a historical weapon look it up
One of the things I love the most about these guys is that they learn the names of the parts. They could have called the Griever pendent on the end a lion pendent, but they took their time and learned that it had its own name.
There's definitely some cool nerdiness in these guys

@@kurosironcry3619 This size is correct. I've seen Squalls original gunblade was never a buster sword and was pretty compact. You are thinking of his Ultima blade which is a bit larger.
I'd say the slight problem would be it could be a bit wider on second viewing.

For people that doesn't know about the Gun part of the Gunblade: It doesn't shoot, even ingame. The trigger allows for an explosion at the blade, and it's used for Critical Hits (Hit R1 when you hit for Critical attacks).
Where does it explode? How does it work? No idea. It just works like that.
It makes the sword vibrate. Yeah, it's bizarre.
i think in dissidia it can actually shoot and the exploding thing works in that too
That's retarded. I just came from Skallgrim's video about this p.o.s. and he went through amazing detail about why it's bs for it to vibrate at all

Later iterations of gunblades in other finalfantasy games had them actually fire though. Of course it's extremely impractical but damn if it doesn't look cool.
The whole idea of the gunblade is ridiculous (a cartridge that explodes, vibrating the blade to cause massive damage when triggered at the right time) but holy goddamn does it look cool. This is why games are awesome; not everything needs to make sense in real life terms.

Nicholas Cannaday Fire it in real life, you won't be getting the results you're expecting. Guns are MADE to vibrate as little as possible (this is called recoil). Even if the design was made keep or even somehow amplify recoil, it still wouldn't work. recoil only sends it in one direction, not multiple directions, like what happens during vibration. Swords aren't meant to excessively move, because if they were vibrating, this would increase the chances of you missing the opening in your opponents armor, and just having the attack bounce off their armor. This is something that you don't want to happen...
Jared Christopherson I am not talking about this blade, I am tlaking about in general, if you took a knife, and had something that made it vibrate, like a small battery operated motor, the vibrations would cause simple cuts to become even more vicious.

If you wanted cuts to be more vicious, all you would have do is make the blade serrated. The whole gunblade is cool and all, but really impractical...
It's funny, the gunblade actually seems like a viable weapon due to the angle of the blade. Very slash efficient

One of their best creations so far. It's just the right length that it's easily wieldable and just the right thickness that it doesnt wiggle when slashing through objects like the past ones. Shit's cool.
Yeah the non wiggling of the blade is what really impressed me. Blades are not supposed to do that.
colkestrel well actually blades dont wiggle. They flex. Because of the nature of steel, it has to flex otherwise the blade will snap.

colkestrel That depends on the sword and quality of steel. Thinner swords tend to wiggle, and their supposed too, if the steel wasn't flexible enough a thin sword would just snap on contact. That's also the purpose of folding steel, it's to make low quality steel more flexible.

The blades on man of arms always wiggle like a one handed saw. They are not supposed to do that. Flexing is one thing and wobbling is another.

I see this only now and it's magnificently beautiful! Final Fantasy VIII is the only chapter of the Final Fantasy saga I played with and I always dreamed to have the Squall's gunblade. You made a greate work! Congratulations
This is their most bad ass weapon because it's not unrealistically huge, it looks fucking beast, and it didn't look like they had any trouble using it. The sword of artorios was fucking awesome, but, it was huge. This is awesome. This is a zombie apocalypse sword

Man At Arms is officially back! While we will still miss Tony and his incredible eye for detail, it's nice to see the Stagmer brothers have finally decided to turn Reforged into a sequel, rather than a spin-off.
While the concept of mixing weapon styles was interesting, the main appeal of Man At Arms was to see amazing weapons from fiction brought to life before our eyes.

Ryan Hartigan Well, I think the problem was more of how it would fire. I don't know if it's explained in VIII itself how the gun is incorporated into the blade, but I imagine that it would be difficult to fire through the center or along the side without recoil throwing you off and possibly injuring your arm, especially on a build as light as this sword.

Xilinoc Actually, the trigger is not meant for firing bullets. I was a HUGE fan of the series in my gamer days, and if I recall correctly, the trigger is supposed to be pulled (press L1 on the dual shock controller if I remember correctly) as you strike your enemy for increased damage. It was an awsome feature!

Finally you guys are hitting some more entertaining targets. Honestly, I love watching the crafting of these weapons, but the end slashing part is really the most satisfying.

I'm the opposite. The end slashing never has any finesse lol. Crafting it is sweet though.
I'd love if they would talk about the actual experience of wielding these fictional weapons; whether the weight/balance is practical or unwieldy.

It actually can shot. But the bullet is empty, it only uses its recoil force from the gunpowder blast to add more "umph" in the short melee swing.
In the actual game, Squall and Seifer are the only characters to deal Critical Hit by timingly trigger R1 button during the attacking animation.

BlackWingedSeraph The Gunblade does not vibrate. It shoots magic. There is no way it could shoot anything but magic without making it completely different. Maybe you could do something with fireworks in the place of shells, but that would be about it.
Barlysan Ki When/where does it say that? Even if that is somewhere, the game isn't made by just one person and that's stupid. There isn't a place for a barrel to be. It comes to a point and clearly shoots crap. Magic.
***** The game literally states in one of its magazines the firing of the gunblade's rounds induce a tremor in the blade that vibrates it and helps cut through whatever it strikes. You can stop with your head canon now. All in game magic Squall does with his hand.
Kaili Burns Yeah I've since seen pictures of where the barrel could possibly be. The firing mechanism is too low, but guess they're game designers and not gunsmiths so it's possible. The bullets would have to be all the more magic to "vibrate the blade" though and that's stupid.
Still one of the best fantasy swords you have ever done.

By far a way better direction this show has went to. Please keep this formula and not Mashup weapons formula.
well, I'd like a mix of the two, but I'd rather they not do mash-ups unless they can really make it work. also, I'd like them to continue to make the weapons somewhat usable, instead of having glaring design flaws, like circular hilts.

Compared to many other weapons Man at Arms made, not only does this look 100% like the game, but did you see the tests at the end? The Gunblade performs like a boss. It stabs like a fiend and slices or chops through even Zombie Go Booms Ivan Head's (Which are 100% Anatomically correct and the same density of a human skull) 1st hit on the skull is one hit one kill so positively brutal! 2nd hit to the back of the neck (which was a quick and less precise hit) severed the spinal cord with ease. 3rd hit in the same place (which was a well aimed strike) was a full decapitation...
Conclusion the Gunblade is a badass sword! PS to anyone hating this, it outperformed most weapons they have made on either show, and is very usable as a real sword.
Of course this replica can't fire magic or use explosive melee strikes, or call a giant energy blade from space, etc like the game. In FF8 both Gunblades whether Squall's Revolver or Seifer's model have maxed out hit percentages, meaning even if they are blinded by magic they never miss! Talk about OP. It's called Final Fantasy for a reason! The weapon only works those ways due to sci-fi futuristic technology and magic! It's not supposed to be real! Doesn't take a genius to figure that out XD
The Gunblade is still to this day one of the coolest looking and most powerful swords from any game. As a sword this replica is EPIC! Thank you and well done Man At Arms: Reforged
Right on this blade is one of their best yet.
You forgot that it didn't even serve it's purpose. The idea of the "blade" is to fire a round to cause vibrations to cut through the target, did they do that? No. It would have been easy to add it and try it, even though it may fail it would be a nice view. And sorry I would not use this sword in combat, I'll stick to my bastard swords, butterfly swords and everything else. Sorry I'm just a regular at fencing, kendo and Iaido. I live in Japan and these were the only classes in swordsmanship I could find, ironically this does not teach me how to use my favorites, primarily a katana and rapier.
cris art Obviously real words are more practical no one said otherwise :D And no fantasy weapon will EVER work like it did in the game or series. That's why they call them replicas you know. They are not supposed to. Regardless it's all just in fun anyway.

92nicu17 there is a giant pair of scissors in Akame Ga Kill but it's not used by a main character.

I'm impressed - you're finally back making stuff that made this channel popular in the first place. Stick to weird weapons and no hybrids and it'll be great. I dropped you after the MLP armor, but I'm back now - you get one last chance.
Also - shouldn't a GUNblade have a barrel somewhere on top? To shot bullets from? I remember gunblade in FF VIII having one, but I don't see it here...

I checked it out after seeing your comment, since i dont remenber such an explicit barrel on squalls gunblade (but then again, years and years since i last played it). Anyway, the top section of the blade is the barrel,pretty much a rifle lenght barrel.... since they are not making a shooting replica, no need to make that drill. Seifer's gunblade tho, have a clearer barrel, despite also being within the blade....

This early, the blade has no barrel. On more recent games, gunblades actually have, but not this perticular one.
The explaination in the game, were that the shots made the blade vibrate, but IRL, it will just made the blade unusable, assuming that the whole thing don't explode simply at the cilinder, whitch is probably what would happen irl.
So, no barrel on this amazing piece^^
Pan Rysownik Rysuje I quitted at the second or third maybe, vidéo; after reading Tony Swampton's version of the story, he won't come back, they choosed to replace him with those guys. It would not have bothered me so much if those mashups were not just god awful, continuing the idea of Man At Arms with another team could have worked, Tony was a master, but he also proved his talent and introducing a new team could have ended well, making them a good addvertisement don't you think?

I'm a brony, but I couldn't stand this piece of crap.
The idea of such a piece of armor isn't dumb, Rainbow Dash in the serie, actually used a jousting armor, so it could have been an idea, but this? NO. It has NOTHING to do with MLP.

They just noticed that there is many bronies out there and tried to save the channel bringing our easy trigger on the like button when it concern MLP to their use, but in fact, it just ended up lose even more subscribers...
Py7h0N357 I'm not really into MLP anymore - I did a podcast once and dropped around season 2. But my daughter loves watching it! I just wish bronies stopped flooding every single place where MLP is mentioned and just posting the same "I LOVE MLP I AM A BRONY" crap everywhere.
As for the GUNblade itself - I just didn't see the gun part of it. I knew it wasn't supposed to be usable, but a replica is a replica - you should do it justice and add a barrel on top. Sad thing they didn't, but EVERYTHING ELSE kicked ass.
I loved Tony's stuff, my friend went to USA and I'll maybe get Tony's autograph, because he knows him, but I want to give these guys a chance! This version on FFVIII don't have a barrel on it, as I said, go look at Skallagrim's video, he's a man of sword and can explain WAY better than i doo the issues of THIS PARTICULAR gunblade.
As far as my knowledge go, there is more than this gunblade, but this is the most memorable, reason they choosed it I beleive.
For the "I'm a brony" part, I was just making the thing clear about why i quitted looking at Man At Arms, jumping on your point about it.
For the part about bronies expressing their pride to be on the herd, there is two things i would appreciate you to understand:
first, when MLP is mentionned somewhete, it's a shoutout for us to respond "i see and appreciate what you did there" it's the very explanation of a private joke, don't blame us on that.
Then, we have the "other" part of the fandom.
People jumping on the herd because it sounds "cool" and rebel; it makes them beleive they are special.
The whole brony community was to happy to accept anyone, we were taking the lessons(and many of us still try to do) the lessons of the show for us.
The good moral of the show inspire us.
But some of us don't want this.
Some just want attention, and it's natural, and by entering the fandom, they have this attention. Don't blame them.
In fact, you could say the same of any fandom.
Just, people are starting flame wars about how bronies are gay, faggots, retards and so and so.
Some, many of us, are tired of this shit.
The haters, the 4chan's disciples have found the new way of trolling; ponies.
The real bronies are just random people who love the values and the message of the show.
And for your own entertainment and having a good time wtih your daughter look at season 3 and more important, season 4.
Season 4 is the best ever.
Just the end is worth it ;)

These guys clearly did not do any junctioning before hand.
Junction Flare or Ultima to Str, then hit it with Meltdown to inflict Vit 0. You can then easily do 8000-9000 damage per strike on that... pumpkin.

I know the purposes of this show was to mix and match weapons and themes from fiction and make entirely new weapons. And, final results of those pieces aside, I do have a certain level of respect for the originality put into those projects along with the effort, even though I really wasn't particularly crazy about most of them. That's why I've never disliked any of those videos.
But I have to say, there's just something incredible about watching a weapon you've idealized, and adored since childhood in artwork, polygons and pixels, be brought to life as a fully functioning, tangible piece of art. It's amazing, and it's the reason I subscribed to Man at Arms in the first place. This video reminded how much I missed that feeling.
By the way, it's fucking gorgeous.
I liked this a lot. The gunblade is one of the most complex to forge weapons ever, because it require to be (as the name say) a gun (a revolver), and a blade (a great sword) in one. If you forge successfully meeting these two requirements, possibly the U.S. Army could order a lot of them, because is a modern way to defend and replace a rifle with its bayonet...

So they use the computer controlled plasma cutter to make their pieces, they don't show the fittings of all the pieces, and they just mention the finishing touches without showing how it's done or assembled? Seriously, bring back Tony.

Finally these guys are doing the show right because that was a good pick doing the gunblade instead of making up weird stuff like the horse armor or the iron man sword. Also it is great that they cut more fruit and jello and fake zombie heads to better show the sharpness rather than trying to cut plastic models and glass witch are not good for showing how well the weapon works. Now if they can keep doing what they did with this episode the show will be much better.

That would probably be really hard....but I wanna see it bad. They would probably be a lot easier to make into an actual blade with the proper side being sharp unlike the kingdom key they made first season too.

For a reforge suggestion I am thinking Odd jobs hat and Captain America's shield. A shield you can wear as a hat and throw to cut someones head off.

Later games features a working gunblade with a propper barrel, i'm not sure it would be very handy though, seeing the size of that monster, it's maybe even bigger than the .500 S&W magnum; it would be very hard to fire XD

One of the big things is size relevant to the person wielding it. All the guys in the show are pretty big compared to Squall who is only 5'8".
I run into this when I make my own props. I scale them for my own size, at 6'2". Makes for some pretty huge props when held by other people!

Im sorry to be one of the people hating on this channel but it just feels like they aren't doing anything. They just edit it on a computer which then cuts it out for them and all they have to do is polish it and put the pieces together. The most work they do is decorating the weapon(like adding the little extra stuff that makes it look like the weapon they are trying to recreate) It's more of an artistic approach or something and I preferred the practical approach. The way it was before where he was hand making these weapons and they still looked really well made. Just my opinion but still.

This is what's called 20th century blacksmithing. Where a computer does more work then a person. Didn't you notice how clean these "smiths" are. They sit at a desk behind a computer more then they stand in from of a forge or anvil.
I totally agree with you that this web series lost all of it's interest when they stopped making the weapons with actual hands on methods.
I think they did most of the work themselves in the earlier episodes, but now they have more technology, so if they want to be cost efficient and up-to-date with technology then they're doing it right.

but part of the reason the show was cool with the old crew is that they actually hammered their blades and weapons from ingots of metal by hand or at most with a power hammer. Its was awesome seeing these fictional blades brought to like with closer to actual blacksmithing. This is basically making model pieces and then slapping it together.
C'mon just watch the part where the guy is "explaining" what work had been done up to that point. He could barely explain shit all, as if he really didn't know what everyone else had done.
Tony Swatton was the man. He did it the right way. This CNC heavy shit is more CAD than metalworking, and it limits the creativity to what can be plasma cut out of a nice piece of factory gauge plate. Not saying that these guys aren't extremely skilled at what they do, but I'm betting 99% of people subscribed to watch the magic of blacksmithing turn a lump of steel into a beautiful handmade piece. There is no magic in seeing 6 pieces of metal get CNC'ed and then clamped and welded together,

If you were wanting to buy, then it would have to be from some source location. Nothing made on this channel can really be sold because its all licensed. They'd get in trouble for trying to sell them.

"too cool" is an anime themed merchandise store in chicago, im not sure about their stock but in the foxvalley location they have a gunblade for sale ($999) however im not sure it its sharp or not, but the detail is to the exact...it even has the extended barrel to the tip which this replica has no barrel at all

Not true at all. Im okay with change. never resistant. but it was just better before so why change whats good. I appreciate the hard ass work they put in for their craft and i will give them that. But even if they got rid of Tony and his crew and changed the name to reforged, all they had to do was just keep making weapons instead of trying to do a hybrid thing. Like someone under me said before, there's no need for them to try and be extra with the hybrid weapons. Just stick to bringing to life the weapons we see in games and tv shows. thats what made Man At Arms popular in the first place so if it aint broke dont fix it. Just keep doing THAT because it works.
And im positive that almost everybody that watches will agree with me on that. Its cool they tried to do the whole hybrid thing, but getting back to just making the regular stuff will be alot better
