King Charles Has His Eye on David Hockney's Galoshes

- His Majesty The King praises artist David Hockney's "galoshes" as he hosts a luncheon for Members of the Order of Merit at Buckingham Palace. Upon seeing the yellow Crocs, the King told Hockney that they were “beautifully chosen”. The Order of Merit is a special mark of honour, recognising individuals of exceptional distinction in the arts, learning, sciences and other areas such as public service. Report by Roshni Patel.
David Hockney rising from his wheel chair, despite the Kings insistence he didn’t have to, was pure respect.
love you king Charles...you are so cute
His Majesty always treats people with such kindness and interest.
YES.
Charles is completely first class.
I think Charles and Camilla have certainly burst the bubbles of all their detractors over the past weeks. Perfect fit for their new roles. 👍
Absolutely Barry. There are still a few detractors, but I think the message to them is get over it and give him a chance.
Wow, David Attenborough looks very well for his age.
He really does, doesn't he.
Wonderful caring man.
God save the King ❤️god bless royel family ❤️❤️
Wow David Attenborough is very animated and moving well in spite of his age. Mother Earth must be blessing him with long life.
Yeah we BRITS call him an English treasure but he's not he's a world treasure..
CHARLES HAS REALLY COME INTO HIS OWN.....HE IS OUT OF THE SHADOWS....VERY PERSONABLE....LOVE THE FACT HE LOOKS PEOPLE DIRECTLY IN THE EYE WHEN SPEAKING.....AND THE OLDER MAN STANDING UP FOR RESPECT WAS SO TOUCHING
Still in the shadows doing their demon worshipping. 👿
King Charles received his gift of supreme affability from his mother Queen Elizabeth.

Amazing group of people. Where else would you get Attenborough, Reese, Hockney, McMillan etc around one lunch table.
I was thinking it was David Attenborough…..thanks for confirming!!
Penrose is the one who gets me excited. Man is a legitimate wonder, a true genius.
I do not find all this natural.

What a strange comment.
I loved how the King asked the gentleman in the wheel chair NOT to rise , even adding a please and touching his arm , but the gentleman wanted too , Charles was wonderful in his personal touches with people , charming , a real touch of his mum in his manners , communication skills with one and all , very welcoming
That gentleman is David Hockney OM, CH, RA, the celebrated painter.
I agree. I feel like he is blossoming into himself before our very eyes.
@@Tenorgeiger
Well It would not have known who he was either.
I agree. That was Mr. Hockney 😁
@@forcryingoutloud Trouble has been that not even the media would follow Charles around for a long time since he was not very popular, those that were with him interacting with the public, etc have all said how warm and friendly and engaged he was with people. He is only blossoming to us because he is constantly exposed to the media now. I watched the live feeds of the Queen's funeral processions starting in Scotland and was very impressed with the Kings stamina. He has been redeemed in the public eye.
I think King Charles is lovely he looks them straight in the eye and always sound interested in what people say. He appears very comfortable as King.
He is very comfortable and normal, he even touches people which is something the queen never did
Why wouldn't he be? He more training to be the sovereign than literally any of his predecessors, and he learned from the best (i.e. his mother.)
@@hotwax9376 Of course he did that go's without saying.

If I'm not mistaken, the Gentleman in the wheelchair suffers from Parkinson's Disease? Bless Him! King Charles was very helpful and kind. As a real Gentleman should be.
I am not a Royalist but know a decent person when I see one.
Very nice video. Thank you.
Sir David Hockney, the great artist and painter x
That's very kind and humble of you to have pointed out the gentleman in the Wheelchair .
God bless you .

The King has a good sense of humor. I love seeing him laugh with people!!
What a great recognition to all who serve so well. Also, KC has large Buddha ears, strong & wise man
Enjoys a glass of wine?
The King is just that little bit more at ease with people than The Queen was, she was quite shy I think. He is also a little more informal and that is a good thing in this day and age. It will keep our younger ones more engaged I believe.

Naturally you have NEVER EVER uttered mild indecencies to a loved one, but then you haven't had your private telephone calls illegally recorded.
It's about time you grew up and allowed other men & women the same respect you would want yourself.
We Americans always held Charles in esteem. I can remember the 1980s when we men were imitating his sartorial style by a kind of unspoken rule of fashion. "Charles is wearing checked tweed, Charles is wearing this, or Charles is wearing that..."we used to say. If the then Prince of Wales sported it, then we went out and bought it.
King Charles III 👑
Germany loves King Charles
I agree with Charles that Hockney's happily yellow galoshes were well-chosen and accented his attire quite nicely. Cheerful.
King Charles has what every monarch needs, the gift of gab. Queen Elizabeth had the same gift. Always able to converse with anyone about anything. It is a marvel to behold.
Yes, he does have the same social graces as his mother. But, I really think he is more at ease doing it then she was. I never thought that the late Queen seemed all that comfortable in situations like that. King Charles definitely does.
He loves social scenarios
Wants to be "tampax" tampon king....and live in camillas trousers
He repeats old platitudes and says nothing of substance ever.
@Horn Piper
Any evidence of that or are you fantasising again?
I thought it would be rather stuffy but it appears very relaxed and people are enjoying themselves.
His 70 apprenticeship is being put to good use.

No it should be Your Majesty, although he didn't seem too bothered about her mistake.
I love Humour the King Charles3, good..🙏🇬🇧👑
Now, as Charles is King, it's "Your Majesty", no longer "Your Royal Highness" (0:41).
He doesn’t care he is proud of being the prince of Wales.
@@chanlokhim214 He is not the Prince of Wales, he is the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland!
@@chanlokhim214
His son William is the Prince of Wales now, NOT Charles !!
He probably wishes he was still Prince of Wales if it meant his mother was still alive. In any case, it was probably force of habit on the lady's part, considering he was the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history. And he seemed to be very understanding. If this is what we can expect from Charles for the rest of his reign, then he will be a great king for Britain and all the Commonwealth realms.
I’ve always admired King Charles and he will be a great King. I’m looking forward to his coronation.

I thought galoshes were a type of boot and saw nothing referenced to.boots or the word galoshes so this is puzzling to me. Yet I was touched the man in the wheelchair got up to show his respect to King Charles III.💙🙏
The gentleman in the wheelchair was wearing bright yellow crocks.
Maybe they’re called galoshes in GB?
They were Croqs not galoshes 😅
crocs or galoshes..wth?..the king was funny whatever he called them.
'The man in the wheelchair' was the wonderful David Hockney.
I suspect that the King is not familiar with Crocs.
Oh wow it's good to see John Howard and his wife lovely 😍
Former Australian PM, John Howard and his wife, Jeanette, were present, 1:00.
What a lovely, happy gathering. Our King is just wonderful.
oh, what excellent paintings and portraits of great artists hang in this gallery ... some of the most wonderful creations of art geniuses
During WWII, Buckingham Palace was hit by aerial bombing and the Chapel was lost. There is another Royal Chapel close by. So Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke decided that instead of rebuilding the Chapel as it was, it should become the site of an Art Gallery. It is open to the public, and has a changing exhibition of artworks and treasures from the Royal Collection. The current exhibition until Feb 2023 is Japanese Courts and Culture. traces 300 years of diplomatic contact with Japan, through artworks.

Hope Professor Penrose and the King discussed the nature of reality
King Charles easily communicated and mingled with anyone, he had a great sense of humor, besides his duties as head of state, he still liked to make jokes.
It is Your Majesty to be correct. The King is not a royal highness anymore.

David Attenborough was an old friend of Prince Phillip and Queen Elisabeth. Now he has to pay homage to the new sovereign. Sad gathering of very old people of the establishment.
Sir David does NOT have to pay homage to the king, they have been friends for decades.
Interesting that the two Canadian members of the Order of Merit are are former PM Jean Chrétien and Margaret Macmillan the historian. Are there any Australian OMs? Robert Hughes might have been chosen, but sadly died in 2012 aged 74.
John Howard
@@lsmith9249 Yes, of course. John Howard isn't so recognisable without his glasses and now that he is 83. He can be seen in the short film between 0:38 and 1:18 (his back to the camera) and then at the far right (seated) in the official photograph of the members of the Order with the King at 3:10.
He was made OM in 2012. Jean Chrétien joined the Order in 2009. The Order of Merit includes two leading former Commonwealth Prime Ministers, both of whom served long terms, one right-of-centre, one on the left (if one can call Chrétien's Liberal governments as on the left). The last former British Prime Minister to be appointed to the Order was Margaret Thatcher, who died in 2013.
