My sister in law apologised because the first ever time I held my niece (which was only three months ago at a few days old) she cried and I being new around babies in general and definitely around newborns handed her back immediately. Like honey no, that's not your fault, that's not my niece's fault, that's not my fault. It just happened. Sometimes babies cry, and we don't always know why. My Nan who was also visiting at the time managed to sooth her with great skill, but she's had 4 kids. Edit: Just wanted to mention I held her again a little while later after she'd had a nap and it was magical, she was so little. A few days ago she smiled while I talked to her. While she's growing and learning about life I'm learning how to be an aunt and I feel so lucky, she's so precious.
No it’s parents like you who are nice and gracious enough to let us see into your life. Sometimes I’m like “can I deal with that?” and the answer is always no so then I feel confident in my decision to be child free. It’s not embarrassing to be a parent especially around other people who aren’t there yet or child free.
