It really is amazing to see just how Mario Kart has come, isn’t it? 64 custom tracks in particular stand out to me given the base game’s arguably rushed development cycle, making it fun to see what these designers can do with limited availability of assets. Often times people will have to make their own textures, collision data, etc cetera. The passion is clearly there, and it’s always great to see older games being kept alive by fans like this in general.
I love how some of them use Mario Raceway as the base for the track! (Because of the map I mean) Also, Bob-Omb Basin looks surreal! Kinda crazy just to imagine this running on a real N64!
Dude I remember when I searched endlessly for mk64 custom tracks as a kid and the only one that existed was a rainbow road type coursr made entirely in a hex editor. How times have changed…!
Seeing all these custom courses makes me hope Mario Kart 64 gets a massive mod akin to Smash Remix or PMEX Remix, with a cluster-ton of added content without sacrificing anything from the base game. These courses have a great deal of passion put into them, but I'm equally interested in seeing what kind of drivers could be added to the game. I think it'd be fun to pull off an extensive roster that has a curfew of being at the end of the Nintendo 64's lifespan (being discontinued on April 30th, 2002, with its last game, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, releasing on August 20th, 2002) or the end of the 5th console generation as a whole (with the OG PlayStation being discontinued on March 23rd, 2006, and its last game, Strider Hiryū, released on October 24th, 2006).
I love old games with mods like Smash Remix. What version is this? The Amped Up mod? Honestly how many extra track mods are there for MK64 because there’s overkart and Amped Up versions then there’s the famous HD mod but that doesn’t have extra tracks it’s just the base game redone with the modules redesigned in HD.
12:59 I will never forgive you for blocking the arches of the bridge in Mushroom Bridge. That was the best part about the original. Why would you remove it?
That track was likely ported from Mario Kart DS, where that decision was originally made. If you’ve got beef, take it up with that game’s dev team. lol
@@mozydiaz8296 there are a few from OverKart 64 and Amped Up, but the rest are scattered around. I would search up on RUclips what you want to see and join the OverKart discord!
@@zacharyseaton4476 overall, no. I did get a few from OverKart 64 and Amped Up. I would join the OverKart discord which I’m not sure if I can link in the description, but if you search the project on RUclips, it’ll show up.

i like how a lot of these try to stick to the same level design principles as MK64
What are those principles?

Love the intro. Replicating everything that a 90s kid sees in his bedroom after returning home from school or waking up on a weekend.

The HD mod is a texture pack, applied externally via the emulator. So it doesn't change any code and really can't do that in any way

It was like that in DS too…

Valoocan gives the same vibes as the official N64 courses, so it feels the most at home.
