    Another great video. And very well done with the Dutch nice to see RUclipsrs make an effort with other languages *cough TPW cough*.
    Baron 1898 is great ride although I was quite underwhelmed after seeing all the hype about. However being overhyped isn't the ride's fault. The station, lifthill and tunnel are amazingly themed but I was quite disappointed at the rest of the layout and area, it was very barren (or should i say baron?).
    Great coaster but not as good as the amazing themed experience of The Flying Dutchman and the fun of Joris en de Draak.

      Vinny B the theming is the whole experience thats surrounds the rollercoaster. Storyline and details that make the coaster much more than just the ride make a great theming. Understand now?

    • @timokho20
      @timokho20 7 лет назад +3

    • @coasterbot
      @coasterbot  7 лет назад +38

      Many of the rides that include good theming also have good layouts. Baron doesn't have a terrible layout for a mini-dive coaster. Larger dive coasters take up much more space, and cost a lot more to construct. The Efteling simply couldn't afford, and didn't have the space, to put in a larger dive coaster. These attractions are specifically designed to please the crowds of thrill seekers. Baron, as a total experience, has easily done this.

  • @arjenboerman5690
    @arjenboerman5690 3 года назад +5

    Of course we need more heavily themed intense coasters. Why choose ride experience or really good theming if you can have both? This way, everyone can enjoy the coaster, even if they're not riding it.

    • @coasterbot
      @coasterbot  7 лет назад +2

      Indeed it is! I'm sure people do get impatient with the pre-shows after several re-rides, however, they do not make the queue longer. I think theming is essential to successful roller coasters. :)

    The theming is amazing. There was a book written about the story of this coaster. I read it :). There is also a short film (on RUclips) of the storyline. Now this is some theming, many parks can learn from this.

  • @HairyLoco
    @HairyLoco 4 года назад +5

    Impressive pronunciation of the Dutch "G" sounds. Many native English speakers trip over that one! Should all theme park rides be themed excessively like this? No, I don't think so. Themeing of course is important for the ride experience, but if every ride is being themed up like The Baron is, not only will the cost of every ride go up but it won't be special any more either. Let's take The Efteling's token rollercoaster (The Efteling is the park where The Baron is), the Python. There's no storyline there. It's just a rollercoaster named after a snake, the coaster cars have a snake theme and the track layout resembles the slithering of a snake. That's it. And it's been one of the most popular attractions the theme park has had for decades. Some attractions don't need a storyline, and having one would just be OOT.

    Hi Coaster Bot, i love your video's! The reason it's a ''small'' dive coaster, is because the Efteling is not allowed to build higher than 30 meters. They have a deal with the town. If they build higher than 30 meters they will get a fine of €50.000 the reason that they can't build higher than 30 meters is environmental pollution. That's why they have build it under the ground, so you would still have a ''big'' drop. I hope you understand, and sorry for bad English, i'm from The Netherlands.

    • @coasterbot
      @coasterbot  7 лет назад

      Thanks, I am glad you enjoy my videos. That's very interesting to know and makes a lot of sense! Alton Towers, one of my favourite parks, has the same problem and cannot build above the nearby tree line. Their tallest rides are around 20m tall, which is nothing! Your English was great, don't worry about it. :)

    Efteling isn't an adrenaline seeking park, there is merely one corner of the park featuring nearly every coaster they have. The theming is there to maintain their title of 'family park' or 'sprookjesachtig familiepark voor jong en oud'. They have done a fantastic job in theming this, to make an otherwise obnoxious cedar point coaster fit into the magical feel of the park. No hard feelings cedar point! (Don't tell cedar point; their so-called theming is shitty!)

    I think the theming really helps the immersion and overall experience; though the ride itself tends to be shokingly bumpy for a new B&M. I'm also not the biggest fan of dive coasters, they are just way too short IMO.
    It's a nice coaster overall but I can't help but wish that some European parks would focus less on the theming and more on the ride experience itself.
    Great video, once again :D

    • @coasterbot
      @coasterbot  7 лет назад +1

      I disagree that European parks don't focus enough on the ride experience. Your thoughts seem to rely directly on dive coasters, which you said yourself you dislike. The Efteling did not have the space or money for a large scale attraction but wanted to please the thrill market. Therefore a mini dive coaster was a perfect attraction. Thanks for the kind words about the video though. :)

    The reason the train falls into the mine according to the story is actually that the 'witte wieven' (white women), a real myth in the netherlands, cut the cables of the lift.

    I absolutely think all roller coaster should have extensive themes. Primarily because I see an amusement park as an escape and roller coasters s Thrills and dodging death itself in a strange sort of way the more thing you do on a ride the more immersed you become the more emergency become soon enough it starts less just being another roller coaster and more becoming a fantasy into another world, as corny as that sounds I think feeling roller coasters is a brilliant idea. I mean work for Disney right?

    Living in the Netherlands pretty close to The Efteling I've been in this coaster a couple of times. It's a very fun ride, but a little short. The layout is also a bit lacking, but with such a short track what can you do? Still an amazing ride though. Highly recommend it.

    Such extensive theming is fun when you visit a park once every x years. But when you know the story and just want to ride the coaster I rather don't have the theming. I have a Walibi Holland Season pass almost every year and I do because they have great coasters. That's also the reason why I visit the park on a regular basis. The theming is just okay, but that's okay with me. I rather have 6 awesome coasters without or just a little theming then 3 well themed coasters.

    The theme of the ride is incredible, one of the best in the world. The ride itself is mediocre at best sadly, this theming combined with a massive intense rollercoaster would make it the best coaster in the world in my opinion, Efteling is going to construct two kiddie rollercoasters soon so my hopes are up they are coming up with a new thrill ride after that.

    • @coasterbot
      @coasterbot  5 лет назад

      It does look incredible, even if the layout isn't the best in the world. I've heard that the Efteling are creating a large scale family Intamin roller coaster featuring a launch after the construction of the two children's rides.
