    6:09 Fun fact about the recording of this track. The "chorus" or "doubling" effect you may be referring to may be from Kurt's use of an extremely rare Veleno aluminum guitar, belonging to producer Steve Albini. The aluminum casing produces a tinny reverberation within the body of the guitar, producing a lot of that same effect you hear across the album. Aaron Rash does excellent breakdowns of Nirvana's guitar tones on his channel if anybody is interested, I highly recommend.

    Scentless Apprentice is about the protagonist in Patrick Susskind's novel, Perfume. It was Kurt's favourite book and was a really popular novel in the 90s. There are also some great videos on YT with interviews with the In Utero producer Steve Albini. His experiences with the band and the aftermath of his involvement making the album is fascinating. Well worth watching.

    I understand the point about the production on Nevermind, it does sound effin amazing. But I'm more for the raw aesthetic that In Utero has. I think you'll find a lot likeable tracks on Bleach and Incesticide, and there are tons of great b-sides + the amazing Hormoaning EP to check out. By the way, you missed a hidden track on this one too, the original CD had a track called 'Gallons of rubbing alcohol flow through the strip' which began on the 24min mark after All Apologies 😀

    Don't feel dumb. You just aren't supposed to read too much into nirvana lyrics. There are great and profound lines sometimes. Some songs you get a whole theme or story but for the most part just enjoy the musicality of the words. The feel and textures of them. Highly recommend insecticide, bleach and rare b-side collection called Hormoaning with a couple of my favorite nirvana songs. Even in his youth and D-7

    • @anno0001
      @anno0001 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@anno0001even the nonsense lyrics he wrote were often quite poetic. I think he just wanted people to enjoy the soul and energy of the music. The emotion, the art. He wasn't trying to be a philosopher. But at times he did want to point out his experiences and observations. Just not meant in any reality profound life changing way.
      You know what? Nevermind.

    It's ok if it takes awhile for in utero to grow on you, it's also ok if it doesn't, what really made me like the album was watching the live concerts and hearing his voice cut thru all the distortion and pounding drums from Grohl. Alot of people hate nirvana or don't understand them or think they're over rated. To me it's really about how you could be a first time listener and be singing along before the song is over, I call nirvana haters Billy Corgan lovers😂. Great reaction dude, thank you for getting this out so soon after nevermind.

    I think everything Nirvana has done is worth reacting to, honestly. Unfortunately many of their best songs - Sappy, Old Age, Even in his Youth, Oh the Guilt, I Hate Myself and I Want to Die, Moist Vagina, Marigold, Verse Chorus Verse, etc. are b-sides that don't live on any album. But either way Bleach, Incesticide Live at Reading '92 (my personal favorite), Live and Loud, and MTV Unplugged are all albums worth reacting to. But you can't really experience Nirvana until you've heard or seen live recordings. Check this out for a sample: ruclips.net/video/Fa30bdEXNeM/видео.html

    Even from a selfish perspective i would have loved to watch him change and grow as a artist through the years. Kurt wasn't a hero or a villain just a pretty talented person who seemed to genuinely want better for the world. But a heroin addiction, a failing relationship, probably a mental disorder of some kind and who knows what else. He didn't deserve to go out the way he did but i understand the way he feels a little bit just from that raw emotion in his singing.

    Leonard Cohen wrote "Hallelujah," a song from Jeff Buckley's album, which I think you reacted to. You should definitely react to Hole's "Live Through This" (there were rumors for many years that Kurt is an uncredited songwriter but that might just be misogyny). Would also still love to see you react to Madonna's "Ray of Light," Tori Amos's "Little Earthquakes," and Portishead's self-titled album (sort of the In Utero to their Dummy). Also Garbage's first two albums (one of the band members, Butch Vig, produced Nevermind).

    Kurt wasn't thrilled with the polished nature of the mix of Nevermind. He thought it was too polished, too pristine sounding. Coming from more punk rock roots, Kurt and the band wanted In Utero to sound more raw, less polished, more like a live performance.

    • @FindingMadonna
      @FindingMadonna 11 месяцев назад +1

      I always felt like Kurt was happy with Nevermind at the time it was released but that this album was just a reaction to the success of Nevermind. And he was a big admirer of R.E.M. and I have a feeling their next album (after Unplugged) might have gone in that direction, so I don't necessarily think he didn't like a polished sound. Just my take.

      @@FindingMadonna Kurt himself stated he regretted the polished production of the record. “Looking back on the production of Nevermind, I’m embarrassed by it. It sounds closer to a Mötley Crüe record than it is to a punk rock album.”

      @@brandonb.5304 I'm not disputing that he said that, just saying that I'm not sure he would have felt that way had it not sold a gazillion copies and put him in the spotlight the way it did. I think there was some resentment and regret there.

    4 is a metaphor, it was basically a "you want a new Smells like teen spirit? well I dont want to do one...oh you insist? ok well this is what you are getting". It was NOT literal at all, and was a middle finger to pop music culture, Genius is talking utter shite about any literal meaning. The formula of the song is exactly the same as Smells Like Teen Spirit , quite deliberately

    My friend, Nirvana's songs are always better than today's bands, and it's strange to think that it was 30 years ago, it seems like Kurt Cobain's songs will be eternal...

      It is based off of the novel “Perfume”, kind of rare for Kurt to have written about a novel he loved but I think it showed his song writing getting more creative.

    IMO, I prefer Nevermind because it's proof that all the outside indie bands would sound amazing if given the production time of bigger artists. Also, I think the songs are better by a little bit. In Utero is a great album, but some songs feel like filler or rip offs of Nevermind. I always end up wondering what In Utero would have sounded like if it were produced like Nevermind.

    ruclips.net/video/VUb450Alpps/видео.html I guess you'd probably love to react to this one. Temple Of The Dogs, a Supergroup Grunge Band between Pearl Jam + Chris Cornell from Soundgarden). You'll be amazed from Eddie Vedder & Chris Cornell's voices. 👌🏻🖤
