I think its important to note that BT3 had a lot more nuance with its mechanics. Being 3 games in, they probably knew what to do and not to do. So each design aspect build upon itself. Sparking 0 feels more like they put a lot of new stuff ontop of existing framework without thinking about how those new mechancis might interact.
Exactly this. Sparking Zero is the 4th iteration of the game so it should be even more polished than the previous ones, but as they started to add bullshit without thinking in how those things would affect the already implemented mechanics from the previous games, we got the disaster mess that we got
Amazing video man, its crazy how many "fail safes" tk3 added so the game wouldnt become boring/broken, sz forgot a considerable amount of them... u can almost not feel skill debuffs like ki sickness in this game
I agree with everything you said about the game. This is also why majority of the OG players like Hawk wont play Rank. And he was the best bt3 player in North America.
the regard probably thinks that's what the title of the game refers to Sparking is just the Japanese name for the budokai tenkaichi series, Zero instead of four presumably because it's a revival
The thing i dislike the mostnis how Perception can block heavy attacks, which make it an absolute defense for everything that cones from the front, even ki beams You dont have to time it, to put yourself in a disadvantage situation or to even have to use a special input to specifically chose to use super perception, you just hold the button and it hapoens, even in mid of a combo, its just disgusting
You know what, i feel like the double step in problem could be solved if the SECOND step in required meter yknow? The first step in is free, however the second step in costs some Ki and whatever step comes after that costs more. Another note about perception, perception can only block a high and low option if you have ONE SKILL METER. Super Perception is the only way to stop those attacks blindly and i think that in of itself just calls for a skill meter build decrease so that these perceptions are less likely to happen and MANUAL blocking is required.
@@TheWindBlack Those are good ideas. But because the damage scaling is soo much higher than it is in BT3 Its honestly not needed in the game. And it also dissuades people from not using varied combos. Also I'm aware of the Skill meter consumption on Perceiving heavy attacks, but i think it needs to go because it discourages people from using actually defense and everyone always has a Skill point because of how quickly the generate.

The appeal to casual is always the downfall to games like this who have a specific fan base. Die hard fans is what keeps this game alive, not people who just play games when they are relevant. For people saying that sparking zero shouldn't have copied bt3 exactly, i have to ask, why fix something that was not broken? Bt3, a 17 year old game, had all the right methods to make an "unbalanced" game fun and dynamic by having risk reward factors that kept the gameplay loop fresh. Sparking zero literally is just a visual upgrade but not a game play upgrade. All people saying its great that sparking zero released in such a bad state are the problem with newer generation games. SZ had the perfect blueprint with bt3, and all they needed to do was refine and polish any mechanics bt3 could've done better in, but they instead took steps backwards removing vital balancing mechanisms and even combat tech. Players shouldn't have to have a agreement not to use something in the game because it defeats the purpose of the game if you cant use everything at your disposal, if they balanced it properly no one would have to kick someone off the couch for not playing how they think the other player should play. I honestly believe the game was rushed to meet the day diama released and needed more time to properly polish and implement more stuff.
@@smokey9091 Couldn't agree more. BT3 was literally the perfect blueprint, but i guess no one launched an investigation at Spike Chunsoft on why the game was fun principally. Super Smash bro has achieved this principle year after year, generation after generation and even learned from their mistake of appealing to casuals to much, when you can just have high skill ceiling gameplay for hardcore players with Simple mechanics for Casuals.
@smokey9091 I get the love for BT3, but thinking that just copying it would make SZ perfect ignores how much gaming has changed since then. Sure, diehard fans are important, but if a game only appeals to a small, niche group, it risks failing completely. Games that succeed today balance the needs of hardcore fans with features that bring in new players. That balance is what keeps a series alive, not just catering to the same group forever. And let’s be real BT3 wasn’t flawless. It was fun, but it had its issues, and those issues might feel way more dated today. SZ has tried to modernize some things, and while it’s not perfect, expecting it to be a carbon copy of BT3 feels short-sighted. What worked 17 years ago doesn’t automatically work now. People play games differently today, and developers have to adapt to that. The whole argument about “players needing an agreement not to use certain mechanics” feels overblown. Almost every game has meta-dominant strategies or mechanics people avoid for a more balanced experience. That’s just part of gaming. No game is perfectly balanced, and house rules or playstyles are normal, even in the best titles. If anything, it’s part of the fun to work around those challenges. And saying SZ “just needed to refine BT3” makes the whole process sound way easier than it is. They can’t just slap on new graphics and call it a day. Rebuilding a game means dealing with updated engines, modern gaming expectations, online play, and everything else that comes with making a game in today’s market. SZ might not be perfect right now, but it’s a step forward for the franchise nonetheless.
@@plaguesworld No one ever said BT3 was "perfect," but what was said was that BT3's combat and mechanics were much better than what we have in SZ. It is disengenous to say what worked 17 years ago wouldn't work today when that is actually false in the context of gaming. Super Smash Bros has the same formula that it has always had and has both a casual and competitive audience. It's a platform fighter with many characters from different games, and every time a new one comes around, everyone buys it even though the gameplay is mostly the same because IT WORKS. SZ, on the other hand, literally just took out all the things that made its prequel great. It isn't about loving BT3 it's more about seeing how good it was compared to what we have now. There is a reason people keep giving comparisons with SZ and bt3 because SZ literally is just a downgrade combat wise and honestly content wise, too. Defending the game from criticism via "people play games differently today" is never a valid excuse to butcher gameplay. Bt3 was both casual and competitive fun because it had a easy entry but higher skill ceiling which allowed everyone to have fun, sparking on the other hand just appeals so much to casual that it has annoying gameplay that a lot of people are disappointed with.

I mean, i'm ok with changes between a game and its sequel, but i'd like that at least 1 of these changes could be an improvement. What has been improved here?
Sparking zero has less available modes than bt3, bt3 doesn’t have the best story mode because it’s short but it isn’t lazily put together like sparking zero’s. In bt3 you actually feel weak or strong like in the anime. In sparking zero I can just pulverise any villain regardless if I’m the far weaker character at the start. Super 17 was left out but so many irrelevant dbs characters were included. Like the kankas girl on ribrianne’s team or whatever her name is. I would’ve also like the trio de rangers brothers too and the older brother’s giant form. No story mode for the movie villains and the immersion is always ruined when certain sections are skipped just because it’s meant for one character. They should’ve done that and made a main storyline like the other games. Unlike bt3, when the opponent is on the ground, the ultimate hits as if they’re standing up anyways regardless and it’s fun yh but doesn’t make sense. The damage should be reduced depending on the uptime and if the opponent is just on the ground rather than making a cutscene of them in the air… Trunks ssj2 and dbs goku ssj2 not being included was pure laziness so in the story mode once again, you get an inaccurate one. Rage trunks fighting blue vegeta during their training and ssj goku vs ssj2 caulifla and kefla? Was not like that in the anime. It was ssj2 goku vs ssj2 caulifla and ssjg goku vs kefla. The impact of attacks is far worse as well. Also ssj2 gohan seems to have been nerfed in terms of speed. When sparking is used and you just hit people they go flying after tapping the attack button. They shouldn’t randomly get sent flying. It should just be easier for players to defend themselves if anything This one isn’t only sparking zero but none of them ever include meta cooler’s true body, the giant one. Hercule should do more damage to videl since she’s relative to him in strength but definitely was stronger in her prime. More of a nitpick on my part. For some reason, no body disappears or hardly destroys the planet after an ultimate, depends on which one but most should vaporise the characters completely. Let’s not even get started on the lack of stages… The inputs on sparking zero are understandably difficult but sometimes I swear I’m doing it right but it just doesn’t register. Like the timing online is also far different than offline. Ssj3 goku can attack giants with dragon first but ssj4 can’t? Pretty realistic. Another general nitpick is that no db game gives ssj4 goku the strongest dragon fist kamehameha that he used against omega shenron. Another general nitpick so take some of these with a grain of salt, is that gt base goku should use dragon fist kamehameha to keep things accurate like he did against super 17. Ssj3 gt goku should use true kamehameha that ssj3 dbz goku sometimes has in games. There’s no distinction between ssj aura and above like they did in bt3. Ssj was normal yellow but the ones above were aggressively dark when powering up. The custom stories are unique but just feel like ordinary battles once the very short cutscenes are finished. There should be some audio recorded already at least rather than absolutely nothing and just reading a few subtitles on the screen in a basically normal match. Sparking zero gameplay is not the main problem but attention to detail is and obviously the opportunity to cheese online but that’s not my main problem anyways. Ki sickness missing is pretty strange too More nitpick on my side as to how dbs Frieza can’t go straight to golden and how perfect cell can’t transform into super perfect cell…maybe make 2nd form cell’s self destruction transform him into super perfect cell like in the anime but with lower health. If anyone disagrees then please say why but don’t just argue for the sake of it
@@kingades1013 I like how you remember grounded blasts doing reduced damage, and how a rush on a grounded opponent just didn't work. There is a lot of stuff content wise thats lack luster but im more worried about gameplay mechanics overall because how this game is currently made, implemented things that make the game boring. Sadly so i agree with what you have said.
Yeah this game is fun but it can tend to be kind of obnoxious and annoying and BT3 never made me feel that way save for the last battle of the GT saga. I wasn't able to explain fully why. Thank you for this video.
For your first point, the step in isn't a true combo, all you need to do is hold block and it breaks. Other than the obvious need of ki sickness, I'd say your only significant point is overuse of perception but even then it should only a problem for new/low level players. The game has scaling, so theres gonna be differences b/w characters, which is given a solution through dp/bp.
@@themanthatcan4683 You have to read the block pattern if they are facing you, if they are facing you from the back, its completely true. Everyone has there own opinion of the game so just because you think it sucks and someone else likes it you shouldn’t ignore them. In general the game is actually decent and does better than bt3. However the game does lack a few things that would really make it better. Mainly one and that’s the ability to type in our own messages. It’s meant to be a fighter game and not a story game eather so I was never expecting much from the story. Even bt3 lacked on the story and as well was meant for fighting and not the story. BT3 actually is no longer the goat since for stories it only prompts a message with a narrator nothing like how sparking zero does it.
i feel like the budokai series was always unbalanced and insane. wasnt made to be competitive, the less you care about it the better. im just fine duking it out with friends.
Skill Count Generatin, I think in SZ if you take damage the skill count increase a bit extra, it might have been beter comparison if in SZ and BT3 you do both in the same conditions, doing nothing and then getting hit Anyways I know some peoples are buying the game because not for it being good but because Bamco have a record of de-listing games after a time (Saint Seiya Soldier Soul, Jump Forces) and they worring more about that de-listing than anything else
@@jotarandom In BT3 Skill count doesn't generate when doing damage or being dealt damage. There aren't examples in my video( sadly) but In BT3 Skill count is generated the fastest by deflecting Ki blasts
It's funny that the Devs will listen to people like this and change the game to 'save it' but that will be the final nail in the coffin. Trying to balance a Sparking game is like 'power creep' in the anime. Goku can fly? Now everyone can fly. Goku can destroy planets? Everyone can destroy planets. It takes away from the greatness of the stronger characters. Sparking games are meant to be like a 'true DB sim'. Fused SSJ4 is by far the strongest character? Duh. If you want a balanced game, there are several balanced DB games. Just let the fanboys have one 'broken' DB sim, please.
@mike4455 nah it was dead on arrival, simply by not having c.a.c they told us they did not care enoigh to fully craft this game. They put together a gotcha mobile game for the system. The limited custom creation is indicatice of that becayse ultimately they wanna charge you for dlc that may or not be goku in other outfits. The story shows they ddnt care as it was lazy, the what if mode is lazy ...isnt even sorted. And whats the port if i cant What if Nappa Went ssj2? Its pointless in reality. I cell has to be 2 diff people to go full power? The game is nonsense. C.a.c. Is A Necessity, its literal immersion. It could be optional but should always be available. Once you get c.a.c.'s it comes with a customization menu which would open up the optiona for other chracters to be modified and thus gets rid of the need to have 20 different gokus , but still gives us more variety. They need to stop half selling games. This is garbage..ot boring with nothing to do. The fact ppl had to beg for 2 player local shows the devolepers where being lazy with this game and thats its a cash grab. 1 button fighting..thats lmao to begin wit... There is no reason this game should be this lame considering all the success theyve had over the years. Its dbz how tf you mess up dbz....
@ Tbh. C.A.C would be terrible for online play health if this game was even in a functional state to begin with. The game isn't XenoVerse And the player base doesn't want it to be..but more cosmetics is a valid point
@mike4455 online health? Ppl were complaining about yajirobe. There is no online health . The impact of attacks is far worse as well. Also ssj2 gohan seems to have been nerfed in terms of speed.
When sparking is used and you just hit people they go flying after tapping the attack button. They shouldn’t randomly get sent flying. It should just be easier for players to defend themselves if anything
This one isn’t only sparking zero but none of them ever include meta cooler’s true body, the giant one. Hercule should do more damage to videl since she’s relative to him in strength but definitely was stronger in her prime. More of a nitpick on my part.
For some reason, no body disappears or hardly destroys the planet after an ultimate, depends on which one but most should vaporise the characters completely.
Let’s not even get started on the lack of stages…
The inputs on sparking zero are understandably difficult but sometimes I swear I’m doing it right but it just doesn’t register.
Ki sickness missing is pretty strange too
More nitpick on my side as to how dbs Frieza can’t go straight to golden and how perfect cell can’t transform into super perfect cell…maybe make 2nd form cell’s self destruction transform him into super perfect cell like in the anime but with lower health.
@@mike4455Yh I get what you mean
It’s like they made the game unbalanced for the sake of being unbalanced vs bt3 took every character lore and made it somewhat accurate.
@@themanthatcan4683
You have to read the block pattern if they are facing you, if they are facing you from the back, its completely true.
My point is with everything i said in conjunction, this game gets boring and irritating very fast.
The meta game isn't fun either so
The game is in a poor state rn.
And Honestly the worse complaint for a game to get is that its boring
Step ins can be vanished. They may be blockable as well if im not mistaken. As long as they arent backshots
@@Arunnejiro Step ins cannot be Vanished
Only super countered (which should honestly just go)
Or blocked from the front.
If combo-d from behind there is no way out
Everyone has there own opinion of the game so just because you think it sucks and someone else likes it you shouldn’t ignore them.

I see, but did you watch the full video?
This man got in his feelings fast he doesn’t think it sucks watch the vid.
Bro touched on damn near every issue with this game all facts

i feel like the budokai series was always unbalanced and insane. wasnt made to be competitive, the less you care about it the better. im just fine duking it out with friends.
@@osakeleto characters weren't meant to be balanced
Combat Mechanics were always meant to be balanced
Skill Count Generatin, I think in SZ if you take damage the skill count increase a bit extra, it might have been beter comparison if in SZ and BT3 you do both in the same conditions, doing nothing and then getting hit
Anyways I know some peoples are buying the game because not for it being good but because Bamco have a record of de-listing games after a time (Saint Seiya Soldier Soul, Jump Forces) and they worring more about that de-listing than anything else
@@jotarandom In BT3 Skill count doesn't generate when doing damage or being dealt damage.
There aren't examples in my video( sadly) but In BT3 Skill count is generated the fastest by deflecting Ki blasts
Sparking Zero is still the better game. They just have to fix a few issues
@@SoulWarriorSF Sadly its nots..
I wanted it to be.
But besides graphics on all other metrics it loses and the game is 17 yrs old
You mentioned a community. Can I have an invite?
@@hifye1738 Sure its on Psn
But i need you Gamertag
@@myREALnameISiAM Please watch the whole video🤦🏾♂️.
Can't be that difficult
The game is not lore accurate anyway so might as well make it balanced, at least in ranked.
Jeebus brolys rush super in bt3 is so much better its not even close
Great video

just spitting facts. Great video man youre underrated
The game is stale nd boring. No c.a.c no reason to play.
@@esekay3648 It has a lot of potential man.
But at this state it a problem
The game isn't XenoVerse
And the player base doesn't want it to be..but more cosmetics is a valid point
@mike4455 online health? Ppl were complaining about yajirobe. There is no online health . But regardless they can make playing against them optional just like they make it with the points so you cant pick an op team now.
ULTIMATE Tenkaichi had C.a.c so its not just regulated to xv. Thats not even a good reason not to have it. It makes the games better why would you regulate it to only one place when it can benefit you almost everywhere... thats not even logical.
@ Ultimate Tenkaichi isn't part of the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise.
Also this video i made was about the comparisons and balancing between SZ and BT3.
Sensu beans is another thing SZ did wrong compared to BT3
