I was legitimately surprised they kept Iorek tearing his opponent’s jaw off. That was a gruesome detail in the book and I thought they’d cut it out for a family adventure film, but no. They had the balls to not only keep it but show it. Respect ✊
I remember the first time I saw it, and I thought to myself: "okay, NOW I get why this is PG-13!"

I noticed they cut that in the HBO series and I think this version of the battle was actually more thrilling. I don’t know why they’d make a dark fantasy series that literally shoes children being tortured and having their souls cut away but they made the battle scene with the bears less graphic.
I remember watching this in theaters, never read the book but remembered the Christians getting up in arms about it so I HAD to watch it right? Really had a great time watching it, super fun, great characters, cool world build. When the jaw flew off I legit went O.O and I was just slack jawed, it was awesome.

I remember very little about this movie, but one thing that stuck with me was when Ragnar yelled "IS THAT, ALL!?" and then Iorek hits him in the face and his jaw flies off. traumatized me as a kid but now I find it as one of my favorite parts of the movie xD
I personally liked the series better but this scene is far more superior than the series version.

In literally every other aspect the BBC miniseries version is infinitly better than this film! But, the Yorek v Ragnar fight is the one thing I have to reluctently give to the film, they nailed it!

When I was a kid and I saw the jaw tear I was with my dad and he yelled “Holy shit!” Out loud in the theatre. Still one of the better memories I have of him.
Irony here is that both of the voice actors are named Ian.

In the original book Iorek Byrnison's enemy is Iofur Raknison. In the movie he was renamed to Ragnar Sturlusson because his name really sounded too similar to Iorek and it would be easy to mistake them.

To be fair in the book these events were flipped. In the book Lyra encounters the institute then the bears who actually hold Lyra’a father in detainment.
