THE OWL'S YOUR PAL! Hey thanks for this! Very concise and to the point. You demonstrated this functionality perfectly showing how easy it can be. Thanks so much! I have watched many of your other videos; always excellent and bookmarked! Take care! : )
Migrating from Logic, I initially thought this was going to be too clunky .. but after an hour practicing with the key commands using a Comp Version in the same track, I got used to it and its quite fast. My only gripe is not being able to see all the versions at once. So I guess I would want to do tracks for that. So, for a V1.1 software its fine .. but hoping there is something on this in the near future. Of course you have hundreds of users all claiming their top feature is a deal-breaker :-) I work in software development and I feel your pain right now but I have to say kudos to the team and UA as a company for what you have done so far!
Since pro tools has never updated their software its probably still done that way...lol. Pro tools is still locked in that 1980s windows within a window thing. 😅
Oh I completely agree with you. It is a much slower workflow - I think Logic has my favorite system for this, at least to me it's the quickest and easiest. Pro Tools is probably my least favorite when it comes to their comp system. Hopefully Luna will mature more towards the Logic way of doing this task as it grows.
Since I installed Luna, I have latency in Logic, it won't go away, I don't know if anyone else is facing a similar problem, but I have used Luna More, and comping is Just PRIMITIVE at best, Logic is the simplest, most fluid and "logical" in that regard. I hope Luna gets a similar comping mechanism
I'm with you on hoping that Luna gets a Logic style comp function. That sucks though that you're having issues with Logic after the update. I use Logic and Pro Tools every day and haven't seen any performance problems or differences. I'm assuming that you are getting latency from the Console application? That definitely shouldn't be happening. Hope you get it sorted soon!
I noticed this too but with Pro Tools. It's really odd -- what I'm seeing on the screen say when I playing a mix is slightly slower then what I'm hearing if that makes any sense. It also seems like the firmware update I had to do to get Luna installed has eatin up some of the available DSP. I open older PT sessions (that I had no issues withbefore ) and UA will disable plugin(s) due to DSP being exceeded.
@@owlwoodsouth I don't know what is happening I have not changed anything, I think the audio is taking a trip to LUNA before hitting Logic somehow, I emailed UA about it they suggested some stuff but I think there is something else, might have to reinstall
@@billyhughes9776 That sucks man, LOGIC has not been resolved form too, I tried al sorts of lowering sample rate and everything, nothing is happening, guess we have to wait for the next update, or just reinstall everything, though I am sure there is a solution
How do you adjust the volume of a clip (from a punch in or comp etc.) to match the volume of surrounding clips? On the old (but not forgotten) Mackie HDR 2496, there was a pencil tool that you could adjust the volume of Clips yada yada yada Thanks.
Thank you for the tip.. I really think they need too adopt the playlist and comp workflow of PT.. you easily see all the tracks in the playlist then cut and move to the top.. this workflow just doesn't make since IMO
The UA audio guys wail through this very quickly....kind of deceptively so....as this is clunky at best in Luna. This is going to be an issue with many people. Can't get much better than PT comping. However, still woodshedding Luna 'and' PT 2019. Don't like cramming the brain with 2 DAWS, but Luna is so integrated into UA hardware it's a good idea to have Luna and your current DAW under your belt. Luna will get better, quicker than not I suspect.
very useful tips for comping in Luna but this is still seriously a massive ass ache compared to logics swipe format. I could leave a 5 year old to comp my tracks in logic.
Until uad fixes this, i'm not moving to luna. Studio one comping is so much better. Even bitwig comping is better and it took them 4 years for that to show up
Man this is not good -- I love my Apollos (and the UA plugins) but so far (with my limited use) I'd give Luna a 6/10. Obviously you can "comp" but it's not a tool built into the software yet -- it's really lacking in features so far, especially for editing and mixing,..and there are just some things workflow-wise that are annoying to me. It's got a long way to go. I'm a Pro Tools and Logic Pro user BTW.
and Pro Tools also. I like the flow of PT comping. There is no flow with Luna and this could be problematic for studios comping vocals. Too time consuming with Luna. Please copy PT's UA!
"This dude"? Are you referring to me? I am very familiar with comping in Logic. This video isn't a comparison between Luna and other DAWS, it's just a tip on how Luna does comping.

Thanks for keeping it short and sweet. Just what I needed!
Cheers!

Yeah, one could get used to this, but this is crap compared to what Logic, Live, Cubase, and Pro Tools offers
This reminds me of how I did comping in Pro Tools - 20 yrs ago! 😂
Swipe-comping is just sooooo more easy than this....
Since pro tools has never updated their software its probably still done that way...lol. Pro tools is still locked in that 1980s windows within a window thing. 😅
Very very informative, and no waste talk ! Perfect
thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for your helpful Tip-Series ! Great !
Thanks 👍👍. But it’s so hard and slow. It’s not like logic or Cubase or studio one. There it’s like folder and just select each part on the fly

Very nice. Thank you! Very helpful.
Respect
What a pain! 🤦🏻♂️ Luna needs Quick-swipe comping ASAP! We're in 21st century for goodness sake
Amen!

subbed.
How do you record a vocal comp though not edit it
Maybe you can also make a video about track modes in Luna (Tempo / Time) (?)
No one can beat Studio one in comping 😅

My thoughts exactly, Office Hours is amazing but it's so much easier learning one thing at a time this way! thanks Owlwoodsouth
Where are the lanes?????
It needs quick swipe comping baaaaadly!!!
very useful tips for comping in Luna but this is still seriously a massive ass ache compared to logics swipe format. I could leave a 5 year old to comp my tracks in logic.
yeah, logic is perfect for that
Errr, is this fixed yet.
Just use the best take! Why are you recording if you haven't practiced. Vocals are pretty gnarly though... Punching in works too...
Until uad fixes this, i'm not moving to luna. Studio one comping is so much better. Even bitwig comping is better and it took them 4 years for that to show up
so it looks like i'll just use logic

Yeah- Logic is way better at this!

there must be a better way
It's definitely my hope that they implement a better way as the program matures.
Awful procedure.
Yikes!
command + p = paste lol
Wow that's clumsy compared to other daws.... I would have expected something better from UAD
Sheet... Hard to admit but even Ableton Live has better comping now.
damn. this is not a good system, thanks for the explainer though. After using reaper for 10+ years I can comp with my eyes closed
Comping in Luna sucks, this dudes really need to learn how to comping from logic pro x.
"This dude"? Are you referring to me? I am very familiar with comping in Logic. This video isn't a comparison between Luna and other DAWS, it's just a tip on how Luna does comping.
