Universal Audio Luna is an excellent free DAW but it lacks some essential plugins that you can get free by clicking here ruclips.net/video/R_onojX9cig/видео.html
@@davelanciani-dimaensionx I wouldn’t say it’s free-ish. It’s completely free. Yes they do have an optional bundle that includes a bunch of their plugins and added features but those are just addons not integral parts of the program. It doesn’t include your essential stock plugins but most people will be using third party plugins even if it did include a basic EQ and a digital compressor. I can appreciate that there are people that do enjoy using only the stock plugins that come with their software so I can see how this won’t be the program for people like that. Waveform Free includes some decent basic stock plugins and Pro Tools Intro also includes some excellent basic stock plugins. So there are other free options available.
Such a surprise! And i've just purchased 1 year of Studio One yesterday. Anyway, it's nice to finally see a free DAW with unlimited tracks. I will definitely give Luna a try.
Haven't tried it yet but I'm sure it will have some major limitations compared to Studio One. Probably no ARA2, clip/event/item/region fx, chord track, audio quantize, input midi quantize or many of the essentials features we are used to working with Studio One. That said, I bought Studio One a few months ago and the thought also ran through my mind just now, what if I knew Luna was coming to Windows...
Cakewalk by Bandlab does this already and has been doing this for over 6 years now! But this does look good. Download both while CbB is still available
Really enjoying LUNA after initially spending hours trying to get it to first open, and then function properly. The most perplexing, as well as annoying problem that I’m having is that on my AMD 7950X Win 11 based system LUNA will not allow me to drag and drop audio. I get a white circle with a red line through it. On my 5950X based Win 11 system, that problem disappears so I have no clue what that’s about. Not much of a problem because both systems have the same plugins, it’s just weird that that super simple function won’t work. The ‘Import’ function works fine, it just takes 3 times as long to perform the same function as a drag and drop. That function is imperative to my productivity. I use Splice Bridge on many project so I’m grateful that it’s working on the one system. All in all, LUNA is a blast. And let us not forget, this is an open beta test for Windows, so eventually they’ll get things sorted out. Not totally sure that the problem I’m having is on their end since it works in one system and not the other. Time will tell. Thanks for the great review! NJoy!
That Shape instrument seems to be similar to the TTS-1 that used to be in Cackewalk. It looks like it is the slim down version of Cakewalk by Bandlab without all the goodies Cakewalk has. Though, with UA's reputation, one can hope it is at least as good as Cakewalk. And Tracktion's Waveform seems to still be the more "complete" free DAW with all the essential already in.
It is an Apple program that they got to work on Windows. And it works like an Apple program. It may work on windows, but UA still needs to get used to how windows programs roll. For example, Windows users have been used to right clicking for just about everything, and the menu we are used to see is not the same ie 'cut, copy, paste, delete etc. and where is the 'undo' in the 'edit' tab. There is more, these are just a few examples, and I guess maybe in time they might adjust some of that. But I seem to be working on learning a new opperating system at the same time as learning this program. On the plus side though, the sounds I have been getting are really good, really good. Like any program there is a learning curve I guess. But I like it enough to keep playing with for a while.
Just downloaded the demo of this.I already own a few plugins by UA and I'm blown away by the real analog signal staging of Luna .It sounds and reacts like a console in a 'proper' way.The shape sounds are SPOT ON .No crappy presets and endless browsing stuff.I think it's worth it for it's pro price.Downside is that I don't see myself moving from Cubase on this as it lacks advanced editing macros.Overall as a recording module it's 8/10 specifically for the colorful sound
Luna for windows is trying to become a combination of Harrison's Mixbus GUI with Apple's Logic Pro features and functions. But still I prefer Logic Pro for Music Production & Audio Pre-production and Mixbus for Audio Post-production. I do use UAD plugins during Audio Production that I have purchased. But I am not using Luna because it lacks many features that Logic Pro and Mixbus have and the ease of working with it (not user friendly as compared to Logic Pro and Mixbus). I tried Luna to produce my music but it need to include more features and functions to attract more Windows users.
Asks you to make 2 accounts before you even use the app. can't change install location from C : so i keep getting low on space, which i am on C: also secretly installs Apple's Bonjour in the background.
Damn, and I finally pulled the trigger on paying for Reaper because I was tired of waiting for Cakewalk to get around to announcing their pricing scheme and I was afraid that I would be able to afford it.
Reaper is excellent so you didn’t make a bad choice. You can still give Luna a try. You might like it. Thank you for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍
Stick with Reaper. All these companies say their software is free, but it's always a limited version that says you can get more if you pay to upgrade. Reaper is far less expensive and has ALL the features it advertises. You don't have to pay to get the extra plugins and features.
I can’t get Luna to install. Don’t know why. Personally I would wait for Mixbus to go on sale again. Not as configurable as Reaper(which I own a license to) but far more intuitive if you’re accustomed to working with hardware. Works like a real console and console emulation built in. When Luna works, I’ll give it a shot but I just got Mixbus 9 for $30. Almost free.
Honest question if you can help. What advantage is the Tape slot and the console slot over choosing none on those slots and just placing those plug-ins into the insert slot? In Studio one I think the console slot supposedly bleeds over the other channels giving that vintage analog vibe and causing some kind of magic to the sound. At least that's how I understand it. Is LUNA to your knowledge similar with some function different than an insert, or is integrated deeper than an insert? Using inserts one can bypass the console slot and use another console from other manufacturers. I do like the ability to bypass the "stock" console and replace it with another. Not sure but I think in most DAW's except with latest release of MIXBUS 32, placing a console in the insert just stacks it on top of whatever mixer that is installed stock ??? Thanks for your time, and thanks for all the helpful video's.
To hell with Luna for Windows. It screwed up my plugins, It wouldn't load, it screwed up iLok, and it couldn't find my UA hardware. I tried reinstalling everything twice and the same thing, and the second time, I couldn't even uninstall it. I wound up having to use the System restore to fix my computer. It's a damn shame because Luna offers so many cool free plugins.
Well that looks pretty cool. Ive got over 700 vst plugins so that's not a problem. I guess it will work fine with my ASIO audio interface? Thank you Zane 👊🙏✨✨✨ Cant find system requirements but i guess a Ryzen7 7500x and 64gb of ram is enough 😁
Here is the link to system requirements help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041532932-LUNA-System-Requirements they don’t mention AMD but it will likely be ok. Luna will only work with ASIO interfaces on Windows so you’ll be fine with your interface.
I haven’t used any DAWs included fx and sounds ever. Don’t need them, don’t want them. I’m glad that that’s available. We all have different budgets. Everyone can’t afford to purchase a ton of plugins.
I like the sounds of the plugin at 8:12 I wonder if there is a way to get this plugin working in other daws, is there a separate download for it somewhere?
Thank you for the introduction Zane, Luna seems to be a solid DAW to work with. Compared to Tracktion Waveform Free, do yo see any benefits worth changing to Luna? The graphic interface looks more user friendly to me, but then I would surely miss the awesome sounds of 4OSC in Waveform.
The user interface of Luna is less cluttered. If you should switch all depends on you and your needs. Waveform has better features for working with midi and makes it easier to work with midi in general. If you use the ARA feature in Waveform, Luna does not have that. So this might be a consideration too. They really have different workflows so it’s worth giving a try to see if the Luna workflow works for you or if Waveform is better. You might also like the included Shape instrument in Luna. If you decide to move over to Luna, you can still go into waveform and create some sounds with 4Osc and then render that down to audio and bring it into Luna if you really want a specific sound from 4Osc.
Hi, tks for the video ! It looks veeery interesting !!! Do you know if it has some staff/ score editable ? (I assume it does have a piano roll and automatization). Tks !
I haven’t come across any staff/scoring features. I don’t think they are in here but yes you can easily do automation of volume, pan, plugin controls, and other things, just like other DAW software. Yes it does have a piano roll that’s pretty easy to work with. It doesn’t have a separate window or workspace area for the piano roll, it’s just right on the track so you can expand the track size to have a larger piano roll and then easily put the track back to the normal size.
i just downloaded on my desktop and its so slow a glitchy my pro tools software studio one and mixcraft and fl studio work fine could this be a weird update fix ???
It’s still in beta so maybe it has some issues with hardware on your system. They keep updating it so hopefully it will work properly for you eventually. I have no issues on both of my computers that I installed it on.
I downloaded the trial. It's pretty cool and I am a sucker for the analog summing options. When I tried to open up Kontact Luna crashed everytime. Anyone else having issues opening kontact in Luna on a PC?
Two questions: (1) Have you figured out if it does any take comping? I'm guessing not, as I couldn't find anything about it in the manual. So if that's the case, I can't waste my time on it. That's my #1 criteria for using a DAW. (2) What cam are you using? It is SO clear. Thanks -- Rick
@@AudioTechTV Thanks, I can't wait to see it. Wasn't too impressed with what I saw but I sure am liking most everything else about this program so far. With a few glitches. Think I'm going to stick with it a while as I think the company will resolve a lot of the current issues soon. I think UA is really on to something fresh.
Kind of want to switch from tracktion waveform just because this looks easier to understand as a beginner but no compressors and stuff is kind of a turn off
You can easily add plugins to it. If you like basic plugins like what you would typically find as stock plugins then check out the free Melda Productions bundle. It has all your basic essentials for free. But there’s lots of other excellent free plugins available too.
It kind of reminds me of the new Cakewalk Sonar. Similar graphics. Cakewalk Sonar is a much more complete DAW with a lot more advanced features but if you don’t need any of the more advanced stuff then this could be a decent replacement.
Hi guys. Nice video. Love it. I'm new using Luna. Recently I imported a session of 40 tracks in wave format. But my session in WAV format is jumping within bars when played in LUNA. What do you think it may be? Thank you
@@AudioTechTV Thank you for replying to me that fast. I appreciate it. Well, actually I did that and it keeps happening. But is more curious is that all of the memory, buffer size are green. And they're showing very low percentage of using or forcing. I have apogee symphony mak 2. I'm a logic user. But I live this platform for mixing and mastering. But I don't know what's going on. The support chat from universal audio told me that maybe the tempo is different. But I never got this issue with logic. So, what do you think. And thank you again for taking the time to respond
@@AudioTechTV Hi, last night I checked it again and it still jumping. However, when I bounced the mixdown it sounds perfect. So, I have no idea what could be. Thank you
It ONLY works if you have a super high end PC with an external high end audio system, as it will crash an anything other than an 8 core CPU with at a minimum of 16GB RAM, and it does NOT have the ability to use any internal sound systems, and it's mandatory to use an external sound system, and LUNA will only use proprietary sound systems that make use of ASIO, LUNA will NOT work with ASIO4ALL. My advice as a musician where I record all my own music on a quad core, 8GB, Windows 10 system is to use Cakewalk Sonar or the free Cakewalk by Bandlab. I use Cakewalk Sonar X3 PE and from other DAWS that I have tested Cakewalk out performs even Reaper and Sequoia.
Hello. Nice video ✌🏾. Thank you. I'm having a problem trying to get luna installed. I downloaded the UAconnect and have an ilock account but when I click download Luna from it, it would act as if it were downloading and then shows the download button again. Something weird
Have you tried launching UA Connect as administrator? For some reason UA Connect needs to be launched as administrator in order to install Luna. So try closing UA Connect, then right click on the icon and run as administrator, then try installing again and see what happens.
On Windows, Luna only uses VST3 plugins. Typically VST3 plugins all install to the same location so you just need to install VST3 plugins and Luna will find them.
@@AudioTechTVthanks for your support. can you pl mention the location? I am planning to install all plugin effects and instruments to install in external SSD.
The mac version for the most part is the same except there are some hot key differences and currently on the Mac Luna uses AU plugins while on Windows it uses VST3 which means if you have a project on windows or mac that uses third party plugins then you wont be able to open that project on the other operating system. They are apparently working on the Mac version so it will use VST3 format plugins and then you will be able to open projects across both operating systems.
I assume it requires the UAD Connect bloatware? How about the iLok malware? EDIT: Yes it does require UAD Connect which keeps a constant up/down internet connection. So I'll pass. I recommend the free version of Tracktion Waveform then upgrading to Waveform Pro. No bloatware required.
@@AudioTechTV Do you also have to redeem it and take the 30 day trial of the LUNA Pro bundle before you can actually use it? Without doing that it just says "License Pending".
@@AudioTechTV No one should "like" those bits of bloatware. They do you no good, they only serve the developer who is too inept to survive without them. You can decide to tolerate them or not. I have UAD Connect installed on a test system and it's been stuck "updating" itself for 30 minutes with no disk or network activity. It truly is a rubbish bit of software. I own over 1,000 plugins and 7 DAWs and UAD Connect is one of the worse offenders in the business and I can say that as someone who actually monitors what it's doing...or in today's case not doing.
@@TeksonikAudio I find that these plugin managers do help me quite a bit. It’s way quicker and easier to update my plugins from these programs. I used to not like them but I have grown to really appreciate them now. It’s so easy to see what version of a plugin I currently have installed and which ones have updates available. Then if I want to update, I can easily do that. I do not monitor what these programs do other than make my life easier and install/update the plugins that I want them to. So maybe they do some weird stuff with computing when they’re running. I only have them running when I’m updating or installing so it doesn’t bog down or bloat my computer at all. I haven’t experienced any hangups with UA connect or any other plugin manager but I have experienced software hangs with lots of other programs. It happens from time to time with various programs but usually I’ll restart my computer and the problem goes away. I get it some people don’t like these plugin managers. I was one of them but now I can’t stand when plugin companies don’t have them. They seriously make my life easier.
I wish someone would show how to actually set it up like cables etc. I got cakewalk and the thing reognises my mixer as an output but can't record anything as no matter what I do it will not recognise it as an input, output only. I have no clue what I am doing and can not find a video that will help me.
This video never claimed that it would show how to connect your specific mixer to Cakewalk. There are mixers that have usb audio interfaces built in and there are mixers that are analog only so you’ll need to connect it to an audio interface or soundcard. A USB mixer is pretty straight forward. Connect the USB cable and you’re good. If you want the best performance for recording then you’ll want to install the Asio driver for that specific mixer then setup Cakewalk to use ASIO devices and enable the inputs and outputs of your mixer. I actually have a couple of videos that go through that process. Like this one ruclips.net/video/W6EMzAU8dmk/видео.html If your mixer is analog only then you’ll need to set it up different and it all depends on what type of connectors it has, how the routing is on that particular mixer and what you’re trying to connect it to. This video shows how to connect a mixer to your computer without using an audio interface ruclips.net/video/NU76spK22Ig/видео.htmlsi=3wuG1QWI8mYWaTDw And this video shows how to connect a mixer to an audio interface ruclips.net/video/Ki6y59rA0wA/видео.htmlsi=FyssA0WksiX4z73G Either way you’ll want to install an Asio driver for your interface or sound card (if it has one available). If you can’t get an Asio driver for your specific audio device then you can try the free Asio4all and use that but Cakewalk doesn’t really play well with that so instead of ASIO, use the WASAPI shared option for driver type in Cakewalk.
Cakewalk is a lot deeper program with more features. It kind of depends on what you prefer. I find Luna is easier to navigate and use for most things but its midi capabilities are a little lacking at the moment. Give Luna a try and see if it can work well for your productions.

Luna, for some reasons I don't know, refuses to download. The download bar shows complete but after the download is complete I just shows me to download it again
@@SA.sty_ez that is weird. You could try to make sure you have the latest version of UA Connect. Another thing to possibly try is closing UA Connect down completely, then launching it again by right clicking and run as admin.
Sir, I have the Steinberg ur22c interface which comes with the Yamaha Steinberg asio driver, but Luna is not scanning the driver or the input output channels. All of my drivers are updated to their latest versions. Luna says 'Playback disabled' in the playback option section. Any help on how to get it done, sir?
When you say it comes with the Asio driver. Do you mean it came with a cd or something and you manually installed it? You must manually install the Asio driver, it’s not installed by default when you plug the interface in. Most of the time you need to go to the manufacturers website and download it from there then run the installer. If you did run the Asio installer manually and it still doesn’t see it then I don’t know. It shows all of my audio interfaces in the hardware tab, don’t look in the I/o tab for your interface. I’ve even been able to use emulated Asio drivers like the FL Asio driver and Asio4all in Luna. So it really sounds like there might be an issue with the Asio driver you have. Go to the manufacturers website and see if they have an updated installer. Asio drivers won’t update with windows update.
@@AudioTechTV Sir I had installed it manually. Actually while setting up the interface one must download the dsp mix fx and the Yamaha Steinberg asio driver to use the interface in its maximum potential. These two softwares are available on the Steinberg website. I tried the asio4all driver method and yes it worked. But, isn't asio4all less reliable in terms of stability? Other daws I use such as cubase and Reaper support the Yamaha driver. Luna, in the hardware section is showing my interface while using the Yamaha driver but it shows 'Playback disabled' in the recording tab and says unable to connect to inputs and outputs. But, I too think Luna has a bug or something like that being in the beta testing phase. Thank you for clarifying my question sir.
The ones that aren’t exclusively listed as extensions, yes. I think the only one that is just an extension is API Summing. The rest are plugin and extension so you’ll be able to open them in other programs. But with the Ampex ATR 102, you do get the plugin version however I don’t think it’s been released as a native plugin yet so the only way to use that specific plugin on Windows right now is in Luna through the tape extension. I think if they do end up releasing it natively then they will likely upgrade it to the native version too but I don’t know that for sure.
@@AudioTechTV wow very interesting....thank you for the quick response and all the information...now i'm really considering buying the luna pro bundle....subscribed!
I have a subscription to Spark which includes API vision and the API compressor. I cannot use them either. LUNA insists I sign up for the demo with option to buy. Must be a glitch. I just choose none in the tape and console slots and use my UA tapes and console in the insert. Works great.
help - i cannot find documentation on how to add 3rd party plugins to this win program - cannot find the folder where these should be inserted - please help us do this!!
If you install VST3 plugins on your computer they will install to the default VST3 folder. Luna only uses VST3 plugins so it’s already setup to search that folder and you can’t add other folders. Luna will scan for new plugins when it loads up so there’s no need to run manual scans or anything it does it all for you. So be sure to install VST3 plugins on your computer and Luna will find them in the default VST3 folder C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3
Can I use Luna with my internet turned off or I must be connected to the internet to use it. I keep my music PC off the the internet unless I have to update or install from it.
I downloaded this Daw. But it's on Windows!! not working due to a persistent error message. I can't really get a clear idea of what exactly is going on. I think there is still some work to be done on that.
It’s still in early beta on Windows so there’s a lot of work to be done and they do have some notes on errors that some people are getting. I know some plugins can cause it to hang during the first login when it scans for all your plugins. If that happens Just try opening it again and it should work unless there’s more plugins that cause it to hang then you have to do that a few times.
@@AudioTechTV In my case, a start-up is not even possible. It brings up a window with an error message with a number that doesn't tell me anything else. Restarting the computer did not help. At some point another window appeared with the message whether to use a light or dark theme. I haven't gotten any further yet. Of course it's a beta, but I would still like to run a test to see how it compares to Cakewalk, for example.
o wow so they have made this available for Windows but only works if you have a UA Audiointerface ? mine, a Scarlett 18i20 seems to not be recognised since i do not see nothing in the I/O menu of Luna ! or am i wrong but seems like my 18i20 is not recognised since i get that message right on the Transport Bar " Playback is disabled " . so basicly saying it is free but only if you have a UA AI ...
You are wrong. I have never owned a UA audio interface and I’ve installed this on two computers so far without any issues. You’re looking in the wrong tab. Go to the “Hardware” tab, make sure in the audio device section it says “ASIO” and not Appolo. Then in the “Devices” section select your 18i20. You just need to click on it. Luna will only work with ASIO drivers so if you haven’t installed the ASIO driver for your 18i20 you should do that first.
There was a bug with Focusrite interfaces that got removed yesterday. Try to update. I also ran into problems with my native ASIO drivers for my onchip sound. Installing ASIO4ALL solved it.

Yes. There’s actually a little button with an “F” on it on every instrument track and you can quickly press that to freeze it to audio. Or there are options in the export settings where you can export clips which will export your midi clips as audio. You can also choose export all tracks as files and then just select the tracks you want to render to audio so you do t have to render them all.
Nope. I’ve noticed in my analytics that for some reason it keeps people watching longer when I have my stupid head on the screen. Maybe your analytics are different for your videos but it’s the way it is on mine. Tons of other channels out there though and lots that are faceless channels so you should be able to find something that suits you better.
Do not install this on a Windows PC without BACKING UP SYSTEM FIRST!!!! Beware! Create a fresh backup before installing, as LUNA doesn't play well with Windows yet. I experienced MANY bugs that were not able to be resolved at the time of installation. (GPU issues with more than 2 monitors, unusual RAM spikes, and system wide bottleneck at the BUS level for some reason) I had to use the advanced startup options and load the backup created prior to installation. This of course resolved all of the issues surrounding the LUNA installation, but it also deleted LUNA, as well. Well, if you have an expensive machine and you work with audio, at least you should buy a DAW (Studio One, Pro Tools subscription, etc). The Luna version for Windows is currently in beta version, it means that is still in test.
@@apenastorugoI already have my reference DAW so they can keep it for me and I know that it has been tested for almost 30 years. I have tested practically all existing DAWs but 2 blue screens resulting in a forced shutdown in a row have never bothered me. It hasn't happened until now, not even when I was just starting out, that's all. My "mistake" was to rely on the email received, thinking that developers who supposedly have a good budget and good management behind them would not jeopardize months' work and therefore other people's money. I repeat, something like this didn't happen to me even in the 90s, then everyone is free to do as they see fit, obviously. Best regards.
@@apenastorugo My previous response message was also addressed very politely as I do even if it's direct but it's what I think, well I see that I've fully got to grips with the truth about things, after all they also charge handsomely so my time is mine I work until proven otherwise at a value like that of any other. I'll end here because I have better things to do. Greetings.
This may be the stupidist question you will ever receive. I have this habit, bad or not, of mixing as I'm writing to keep it straight with what's in my head. It's just the way I've always done it. Then I tweak the mix and master it. My question concerns the mixing console in many DAWs. In REASON which is my go-to I can detach the mixer and drag it on to my other monitor. I gain stage to set everything up with play back at -10db to give me space for the reverb and such. Do other DAWs give you the option to detach the mixer? I know I took a long way to get to a simple question but your knowledge of the these different DAWs make you my "expert"!
Yes many of the programs allow you to use dual monitor setups so you can have the mix view on one screen and edit view on the other. Luna does allow you to do this. I’m pretty sure most other programs do too. I can’t think of any that don’t right now but there’s probably a couple of programs that don’t allow it.
@Uniblab8 haha. You don’t need to download all of them! Just grab what you think you’ll use and delete any that you try and don’t like. Thank you for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍
It’s more user friendly than waveform but still lacks some things like multitrack instrument support and the implementation of creating comp tracks isn’t as quick but still doable. They continue to develop Luna and I’m sure they’ll be adding more to it. I’ve been working with Luna quite a bit lately and I really like the workflow. It’s worth giving a try and seeing if it works for you. Having said all that stuff about Luna, when I hop back into Waveform I notice that I can do things a lot quicker. Maybe it’s because I’m more used to Waveform but it does feel like the workflow is quicker in waveform. I think for newcomers, Luna will be easier to grasp, but if you’re looking for advanced routing, multioutput instrument support and more features in general then Waveform as that.
As explained in the video, If you purchase the Luna Pro Bundle then you get the Ampex ATR with it but it doesn’t come with the free version. You get Oxide Tape with the free version. You don’t need Universal Audio hardware to use it in Luna.

Pretty much any modern computer. I would look for a minimum of 16gb of ram and a 1tb ssd drive. If you’re going for a laptop, gaming laptops typically offer tons of performance. I just purchased an Acer Nitro5 laptop and it works great. They made it easy to install a couple of additional drives and upgrading ram is very easy too.
@jonheimusicacademy if you’ve already tried rubbing UA Connect as administrator then I don’t know what might be the problem. Luna specifically needs administrator rights to install where the plugins don’t so usually when the plugins install and Luna doesn’t it would be an issue with that and you can right click and run as administrator.
I’ve been able to install on two computers without any issues. It does say that you need to install from an account with administrator rights. Maybe close UA connect and then right click on the shortcut for it and run as administrator. I hope you can get it installed and check it out.
i have the same problem....i have tried as administrator, it downloads does nothing and asks to download again. i opened a ticket, UAD says there is limited support....so unfortunately cant try it out. I have other UAD products installed without issues.
@ucheattoh I wonder if their server is getting overloaded with downloads for Luna due to it just being released for windows. Maybe it’s bogged things down.
Nope. Ableton Live is a completely different workflow and has a lot more features. If you like the Ableton Live workflow then it’s a smart decision to purchase it.
Yea, but it will crash on Windows 11. Still in beta phase for Windows. Late September UPDATE: IT'S A "STABLE" RELEASE ON WINDOWS NOW!! NO LONGER IN BETA
They do say on their website that it may hang on login due to scanning certain plugins. It happened to me a couple of times on each computer but when I restarted the program it was fine. I hope you can get it to work
Luna is free to everyone. It doesn’t matter what hardware you have as long as it has an Asio driver. The 30 day trial is for the plugins not the Luna DAW.
@@AudioTechTVThat's not true. I own UA hardware and I was always pissed that Luna was only available for the Mac OS. I downloaded the Luna for windows and then attempted installing it using the UA Connect app which is where you install and activate UA software and plug-ins. I am only presented with an option for a 30 day trial of Luna. As a purchaser of their expensive hardware I should be able to use the full version of Luna at no additional cost.
@@UtwoBed I guess you are the only person that they are charging for Luna then. Everyone else gets it for free. It’s a completely free DAW. They have an addon plugin bundle it’s called Luna Pro Bundle. It’s just the name of the bundle and yes there are plugins within that bundle that work as extensions on Luna but you don’t need to use those extensions. You can easily use any other plugin in there. The Luna Pro Bundle has a price attached to it and it has a 30 day trial for those plugins but that isn’t Luna that’s just the plugin bundle which has Luna in the name of it. The Luna DAW is free.
Hi Zain ( i hope i got your name right ) is there a reason why i get the information shwoing off that playback is disabled and when i hit on it i get into a another window that shows my option by there is a part under I/O there does no device show off . is there a way around that or is there some specific key shortcut i need to hit to activate that ? thank you
Universal Audio Luna is an excellent free DAW but it lacks some essential plugins that you can get free by clicking here ruclips.net/video/R_onojX9cig/видео.html
Yes - once again, this is software that is "free-ish".
Dude, create a link that opens a new tab! lol 😆 Yanking me out of your presentation is ill-fated.

Clicked right away... This is a BANGER ❤
Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

I'm a Reaper fanatic but TTS1 is one of the reasons I still use Cakewalk when I need to. Interesting Luna has something similar.
I tried Luna to produce my music but it need to include more features and functions to attract more Windows users.
mix bus is underrated best daw for mixing and mastering but still many dont use or know about it
I was wondering how it compares to Mixbus, I like the mb sound but the daw is a bit wonky for me.
Thanks Zane for your great work in keeping BP update with the lates audio software news!
UA can be quite generous at times.
They certainly can. I picked up Verve Analog Machines free the other day.
Asks you to make 2 accounts before you even use the app. can't change install location from C : so i keep getting low on space, which i am on C: also secretly installs Apple's Bonjour in the background.
Thanks for the warning.
Apple Bonjour is necessary for some processes. Knowing this DAW originated on MacOS and was ported to Windows later on, that's not so surprising
Something u not doing right 😂 u install the daw on your MacBook and the vsts/library on your external hd. Must be a SSD obviously
Sell license and use luna haha
I can’t get Luna to install. Don’t know why. Personally I would wait for Mixbus to go on sale again. Not as configurable as Reaper(which I own a license to) but far more intuitive if you’re accustomed to working with hardware. Works like a real console and console emulation built in.
When Luna works, I’ll give it a shot but I just got Mixbus 9 for $30. Almost free.
Reaper all the way. just go check the system requirements difference
I have many problems with free daws like Waveform or Cakewalk, I hope that Luna works fine.
It would be cool to recreate the series you made about making music on a budget but using Luna instead of waveform ❤ still great content man!
Great, thx for providing the info!
Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Well that looks pretty cool.
Ive got over 700 vst plugins so that's not a problem.
I guess it will work fine with my ASIO audio interface?

Here is the link to system requirements help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041532932-LUNA-System-Requirements they don’t mention AMD but it will likely be ok.
Luna will only work with ASIO interfaces on Windows so you’ll be fine with your interface.
@@AudioTechTVThank you Zane... this is not just a beta version? Or am i reading it wrong 😂
700 vsts ?
@@AudioTechTV hola amigo, funciona con cualquier interface o solo con uad, es que no me aparece en las i/o ningun dispositivo
How is your Ryzen 7 a 7500x? Did you mean Ryzen 7 5700x?
I think no factory plugins is the way to go for DAWs because everyone is always adding 3rd party stuff anyway. Less clutter, less bloat, more freedom.
@@AudioTechTV Perfect, many thanks for your detailed reply!
Studio One does it all for me. I'm good
Hi, tks for the video !
I can't open Luna since yesterday I don't know what's happening 😭
If you research RUclips you will find others with the same problem. Must be a bug that needs worked out.
There is a video on RUclips about the comping feature but it looks very archaic and clunky when compared to most modern DAW's. IMO.
@timcox6796 I have a video that I’m editing right now on comping. It is different but once you get used to it, it’s ok.
What is the staff view (notation) editor like? Cakewalk's is very good.
I don’t think Luna has that. I’ve looked for it but can’t find it.
Could be a good option for Cakewalk when they come with their payable versions.

Thank you
I’ve never encountered this. Have you tried increasing the buffer size of your audio interface?
@@AudioTechTV Thank you for replying to me that fast. I appreciate it. Well, actually I did that and it keeps happening. But is more curious is that all of the memory, buffer size are green. My UA Connect doesn't show LUNA "install" or "download" Just "activation"

Is the Mac version the same?
The mac version for the most part is the same except there are some hot key differences and currently on the Mac Luna uses AU plugins while on Windows it uses VST3 which means if you have a project on windows or mac that uses third party plugins then you wont be able to open that project on the other operating system.
They are apparently working on the Mac version so it will use VST3 format plugins and then you will be able to open projects across both operating systems.
Anybody know if you can use everything if you go pro or buy the summing stuff if you are a native user and don’t own any UA dsp hardware?
I assume it requires the UAD Connect bloatware? How about the iLok malware? EDIT: Yes it does require UAD Connect which keeps a constant up/down internet connection. So I'll pass. I recommend the free version of Tracktion Waveform then upgrading to Waveform Pro. No bloatware required.
Yes you need UAD connect and an ilok account. If you don’t like either of those things then it’s definitely not for you.
Does it use vst plugins on windows?
On Windows it uses VST3 plugins only so no VST2 support.
Crazy. Too many VST 2 plugins owned.
Like this one ruclips.net/video/W6EMzAU8dmk/видео.html
If your mixer is analog only then you’ll need to set it up different and it all depends on what type of connectors it has, how the routing is on that particular mixer and what you’re trying to connect it to. This video shows how to connect a mixer to your computer without using an audio interface ruclips.net/video/NU76spK22Ig/видео.htmlsi=3wuG1QWI8mYWaTDw
And this video shows how to connect a mixer to an audio interface ruclips.net/video/Ki6y59rA0wA/видео.htmlsi=FyssA0WksiX4z73G
Either way you’ll want to install an Asio driver for your interface or sound card (if it has one available). If you can’t get an Asio driver for your specific audio device then you can try the free Asio4all and use that but Cakewalk doesn’t really play well with that so instead of ASIO, use the WASAPI shared option for driver type in Cakewalk.
Hey what do u think about the free cakewalk vs free Luna? Considering I have my own plugins essential plugins.
Cakewalk is a lot deeper program with more features. It kind of depends on what you prefer. I find Luna is easier to navigate and use for most things but its midi capabilities are a little lacking at the moment. Give Luna a try and see if it can work well for your productions.

Do you hve to be connected to internet for using it?? Like native ones????
Thank you for clarifying my question sir.
ok this is a tricky question....when i buy the luna pro bundle, can i open the uad vst3s in other daws? especially the ampex at-102?

Is this DAW cpu heavy?
@@suga4all yap works now and i cant believe this was hidden for Windows users ! someone needs to first yell at Universal Audio for hiding this from us and then commend em at the same time 😅😅 it is a nice DAW allthough most of its features , i found that yesterday out, will stop running after 30 days which makes 3rd party inpreventable. But overall its a good one and has a damn good Soundengine ( used reason for a while ...yaaak what a bad soundengine ). This is the best replacement for Cakewalk BBL but who knows maybe on a time in the future i may even grab the pro version of this because beside Ableton is UA the only one arond that has Houseown Plugins to be purchased which makes this a totoaly want one ! Thanks alot to Zain and to you for slowing my anger down a litle 😅😂 i fuckin hate it when things do not woks as they should and can get very ...well to say it with soft words " upset "
its useable and it is very intuitive : one day and you have it sit secure to work on it
@@AudioTechTV yap it was a bug that got fixed so I WAS WRONG 😅😅thank you
@@suga4all thank you man yes it got fixed and works now just fine. got even a track started on it yesterday ...it a damn good DAW and has a Damn Good soundengine , love it. Thank you and thans to Zain aswell.
can luna bounce /render midi instruments to a audio track
Great video, I must download this 😀
can i use my sample packs or is just for recordings sessions?
not
el ilock nunca me dejo logiarme .... es una total perdida de tiempo
And we need iLok and UA manager to use it, yes?
Yes an ilok account and UA Connect.
Can you create your videos without your camera view on the screen. It takes up too much space and distracts from the video content.
(GPU issues with more than 2 monitors, unusual RAM spikes, and system wide bottleneck at the BUS level for some reason)
I had to use the advanced startup options and load the backup created prior to installation.
This of course resolved all of the issues surrounding the LUNA installation, but it also deleted LUNA, as well.
I'm not saying this will happen to everyone, but EVERYONE should backup their PC before installing, JUST IN CASE!
SYSTEM:
ASUS Prime Motherboard
800w platinum PSU
Intel i7 - 9700K @5ghz
ASUS RTX3060 OC 12gb GPU
128bg RAM
Windows 11 Professional
Freeze twice in a row on my PC with a blue screen... immediately uninstalled after 5 minutes... absolutely not for me, I absolutely cannot test their products for them, personally risking my job and my precious and expensive machines, certainly for now and who knows until when I'm sorry but best regards! 👋🙂
@@AudioTechTV I will explore deeper. Thanks. The more you post the more I get and I'm overloaded with DAWs and VSTs and the like and Love It!
@Uniblab8 haha. You don’t need to download all of them! Just grab what you think you’ll use and delete any that you try and don’t like.
Thank you for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍
how was it compared to waveform?
I think for newcomers, Luna will be easier to grasp, but if you’re looking for advanced routing, multioutput instrument support and more features in general then Waveform as that.
yo does luna pro have the ampex atr-102 tape machine available without uad hardware???
As explained in the video, If you purchase the Luna Pro Bundle then you get the Ampex ATR with it but it doesn’t come with the free version. You get Oxide Tape with the free version.
You don’t need Universal Audio hardware to use it in Luna.
@@AudioTechTV wow unfortunately i read that many people have problems installing it and i also couldn't install uad demos a few weeks ago....if this daw would work flawless on windows right now i would buy it instantly for 200bucks...but being beta tester for 200bucks is not a good deal...i work in ableton but i want another daw for mixing and mastering and luna looks beautiful
@@AudioTechTV thank you for the infos!
this guy is guga for music production
Attempted to install a dozen times. Crashed every time. I liked Cakewalk anyway.
This sounds great. I hope there isn’t a catch.
it a free trial version for 30 days, not like cakewalk that is still free.
The plugin bundle is a trial. The DAW is free.
Kind of random but haven’t been active in a few years can anybody recommend a PC OR laptop that’s compatible with today’s DAW’s like Luna
Pretty much any modern computer. I would look for a minimum of 16gb of ram and a 1tb ssd drive. If you’re going for a laptop, gaming laptops typically offer tons of performance. I just purchased an Acer Nitro5 laptop and it works great. They made it easy to install a couple of additional drives and upgrading ram is very easy too.
any reason i couldn't load komplete into this?
i read in the comments it only support vst3 ...maybe you tried to load the vst2 version?
Make sure you installed the VST3 version of Komplete and it installed the plugin into the typical default VST3 plugin folder.
I tried but not downloading on windows. Any ideas please?
Have you tried starting UA connect by right clicking on it and running as administrator?
@@AudioTechTV yes I downloaded ua connect and in fact I downloaded other plugins inside ua connect but luna was difficult to download
@jonheimusicacademy if you’ve already tried rubbing UA Connect as administrator then I don’t know what might be the problem. Luna specifically needs administrator rights to install where the plugins don’t so usually when the plugins install and Luna doesn’t it would be an issue with that and you can right click and run as administrator.
lest go
UA connect has been failing to install this on my side for 2 days straight
I’ve been able to install on two computers without any issues. It does say that you need to install from an account with administrator rights. Maybe close UA connect and then right click on the shortcut for it and run as administrator. I hope you can get it installed and check it out.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks will try once more via admin
i have the same problem....i have tried as administrator, it downloads does nothing and asks to download again. i opened a ticket, UAD says there is limited support....so unfortunately cant try it out. I have other UAD products installed without issues.
@ucheattoh I wonder if their server is getting overloaded with downloads for Luna due to it just being released for windows. Maybe it’s bogged things down.
i had the same problem a few weeks ago, trying to demoing some uad plugins ....never worked to install
Does this mean im dumb because i bought Ableton suite 12? 😢
No....Ableton is awesome
Nope. Ableton Live is a completely different workflow and has a lot more features. If you like the Ableton Live workflow then it’s a smart decision to purchase it.
vst plugi
n location - program files - common files - vst4
VST3
Will Bias fx 2 run on this DAW
Yes it will
Yea, but it will crash on Windows 11. Still in beta phase for Windows.
Late September UPDATE: IT'S A "STABLE" RELEASE ON WINDOWS NOW!! NO LONGER IN BETA
I'm a Programm?!
Is it better than audacity
About a million times better than Audacity when it comes to music production.
Still shittyy hangs and never loads
They do say on their website that it may hang on login due to scanning certain plugins. It happened to me a couple of times on each computer but when I restarted the program it was fine. I hope you can get it to work
Itd be nice if you didn’t have to buy same plugins you already had just to make it work in luna. Low energy move
Yup nice but cakewalk better 👌🏿
What a bummer. I thought Luna was free to anyone that owns any UA hardware, but it looks like all we get is a 30 day free trial.
Hi Zain ( i hope i got your name right ) is there a reason why i get the information shwoing off that playback is disabled and when i hit on it i get into a another window that shows my option by there is a part under I/O there does no device show off . is there a way around that or is there some specific key shortcut i need to hit to activate that ? thank you
Luna , is a unique name as well as unique interface and a style . This software hence good .
This seems more like cubase
It´s a pain in the ass to install it
