I do have some issues with the rest of the Interloper chapter (the length and padding) but I agree that this moment is undeniably epic. Hard as balls but worth it to the end.
@@Sexy_Nutella the thing is... It is supposed to be long and tedious, since it's an alien factory, and I know! It is kinda boring sometimes but this chapter is above 8/10 because of the music and the build up to the final boss...so cool compared to how they did it in the original Half Life
One of the best parts and tbh first time playing the whole game fully through. I never played the Xen beta either, just waited for a long time thinking the game was never going to be fully complete
Ok, let me tell you my favorite parts of the entire game; My favorite part is when the controllers fight tooth and nail to stop the elevator, and here’s why. This game makes me feel so passionate towards the innate instinct and skill us humans have when pitted against odds that seem insurmountable. This game is incredible as withdrawing that feeling of overcoming great odds, and this fight is the high point of that feeling. This fight conveys how these creatures are just as desperate to live as you are. These creatures are clearly as smart as you, and with your upgraded arsenal, they are just as armed as you. But where we have the advantage is our will, our motivation, as a species, to overcome insurmountable odds. This realization coupled with the slog of intense frustration and fighting culminated, at least for me, into a final burst from my gluon gun and the shouts and yells of someone who knew they had just fucking won. One of the best feelings I had ever had playing a game, ever.
That part when, desperately, controlers stop the elevator in which you are, break the machine and manage to get it back, surrounding you and trying to prevent you from arriving with their master.
Which does bring up the question... why aren't they teleporting in to help their master during the fight? Do you literally kill them all during the elevator?
At this point in the game Gordon’s proved himself to be a surprisingly capable badass; managing to take out entire waves of Soldiers, aliens and what have you but I think RIGHT HERE, at the cusp of the Nihlanth’s chamber on top of the tower that Gordon BECOMES the mythical figure the Vortigaunts treat him as, an unstoppable force of death laying waste to an entire army of controllers and grunts with nothing but an orange onesie and a few hundred bullets
I just love this part of Interloper. I keep playing this over and over again, thinking to myself… goodness is Gordon Freeman a real superhero or what? He has the determination to get up there to defeat the Nihilanth, he has come so far and still there are obstacles ahead of him, and nothing is going to stop him while he has the many weapons and his hazard suit with him.
That synth beginning at 1:51 is so beautiful. Truly an epic track to accompany an epic end of a very unforgiving chapter. I'd like to mention that this chapter increased my hatred towards those floating alien fuckers. I have enjoyed killing them and hearing their awful screech. Glad they ceased to exist in Half-Life 2
Loved that portion of the track as well. And agreed on the Controllers, they are a real pain in the ass. Though I found them slightly less so in Black Mesa compared to HL1
I'm still questioning myself over how they turned Interloper into one of, if not my absolute favorite chapter in the game all because they turned some spinning elevator into this.

I did edit the transition between part 1 and 2 so that it flowed smoothly, but didn't have much luck with the transition between 2 and 3; the end of track 2 and the beginning of track 3 are quite abrupt and I couldn't get a good transition point. I didn't add one between 3 and 4 because that actually flowed pretty nicely as is.
@@Sexy_Nutella Mine goes it: As the intro track nears it end, put a fade in to the one coming next. For the second part (xen-ride1.wav), I think just go with how the soundtrack package looks like from that track onwards.
@@Nevermore2790 I left all the transitions from xen -ride1 onwards as is. The only transition I edited was that one from 0 to 1, in which I overlaid the beginning of the second track ontop of the end of the first one. Didn't use a fade, though. Thanks for the feedback!
@@Sexy_Nutella man, telling ya about my experience in-game tho, I couldn't give two f*cks about the framerate dips when adrenaline is rushing and you're in panic mode. I never died in this part. Wish they could have optimized it better. Well, here's hoping we'll get the bangers of the same caliber in the remakes of the expansion packs.
In my version of the game, there's none of those dynamic blue fog like in 4:12, mine looks plain, also small thing to point out the elevator also doesnt have those small pillars. Why is mine different like this? I would love to have those fog things since it looks so good with it

This part is the reason why interloper is my favourite chapter in Black Mesa.
My only complaint about this part is that my fps dies pretty much i go from 60 fps to 20 even still i like the ascension
Thanks.
At this moment of the game, I forgot I originally started at a lab at Earth in New Mexico.
Haha, very true. It's crazy when you think of all that Gordon's been through

Yeah, the track here really encapsulates those feelings of empowerment. That and the limitless Gluon gun ammo as you tear through the Controllers.

I suggest adding smooth transitions in between tracks, so the in-game mix runs smoothly especially the transitions between Parts 1 to 3.

Open the console and type in:
"cl_drawhud 0" to remove the HEV HUD
"r_drawviewmodel 0" to remove the weapon viewmodel
