A stillborn calf is never a good thing but those Rivet calves look damn cute and appear to be pretty sound. Over the next couple of years I'd expect the color of your herd to change quite a bit. The best news is Rivet is proving he is earning his keep and probably enjoys his work as well.
Congratulations, Tyler! Rivet’s dam is an awesome cow that maintains her flesh, has a beautiful udder, and raises fat calves. His sire’s dam is also an excellent Simmental cow. I expect the heifers to be good ones for you!
Cows are such wonderful creatures. A Murray Gray, 🇭🇲 , N.S.W., looks much like this new calf. It's a great mix. I really admire your attitude towards your animals. It is very empathetic and self reflective. As a retired Midwife, I'm watching you. Calving season should mean a mobile emergency kit with long gloves, lubricant, iodine and A/B spray, aspirator and mechanical birth assistant and revival towels or covers.
So Sorry for the loss of ur Calf Tyler. Some things just Does Not go as we Planned. I am Elated that Mom Allowed U to help her with the Afterbirth Removal. She seems really calm. U r such a great Farmer. Rivet's little Babies r just the Cutest. Keep up the Great Work Tyler, and Keep Rocking!
Calves on the ground! It's a wonderful time of year. Rivet is definitely putting his spin on the color pallet. I'm looking forward to watching his babies grow. ❤ On a much sadder note is the stillborn calf. I'm sad for you, the mother cow and the ranch. Even though we know it happens, it's still a tough pill to swallow. 😥 My prayers to you. 🙏
Aww So Sorry For Your Loss on the 1st Calf. Hopefully Mom is gonna do ok. Prayers the rest of them will be born doing good. It does happen like that sometimes though.😢
I’ve been waiting for this video!! I was wondering with Rivet being such small % Charolais if he’d throw smokes still. That white from the char is co-dominate with both black and red they say so in theory, char/ black angus will be smoke colored and char/red angus will be copper colored. Interesting to see that 1/16 char in those calves are still bringing out the white.
Those gray baldy calves are really bad ass looking! I really think they will preform for you hopefully you can get a few gray baldy heifers you can keep back for yourself Tyler! Hopefully your calving season goes smoothly bud!
Seeing the cows calving in the sunshine on grass is great! You waiting that short time to breed has made a huge difference 👍 I wonder if that stillborn could’ve been breech and she just didn’t get it out in time? Riveter calves will be so fun to watch grow, so gorgeous!
A sadness that you lost the one calf, Farmer Tyler. That's never a welcome thing. But....Rivet's babies are GORGEOUS, and have the same great conformation as their dad! So happy to see them at last....this is wonderful. All my hopes for the rest to be easy births and more beautiful little guys on the ground. It's going to be fun to watch them grow. Love their color, too! I imagine they may darken a bit as they get older, but maybe not. You never know. Anyway, congratulations on the healthy new little ones! 😊🎉
Hi Tyler so sorry for your loss I guess that is such a heart ache for a farmer you love your animals so much I can tell you feel sad for her I’m sure any animal feels the loss well the new little one is a cutie and healthy take care better days ahead
I've been waiting for those baby calves. We've had a 24 hour blizzard here in central Nebraska, farmers I'm sure we're working around the clock saving new born calves. May the rest of your calving season be a success!
I was glad that you showed us a picture of Rivit. I forgot what he looked like. Genetics is always interesting. We give thanks to the Monk Mendel and his pea plants. We have come a long way in a short time.
WOW!!! This is so exciting. Sorry about the one that was still born 😢. But also congratulations and we’re all so excited to get to share with you this coming calving season. Thank you’d so much for sharing this with us. I didn’t want the video to end. Keep up the hard work. We’re looking forward to the videos ahead. We know you have made great improvements to the ranch and to the cows.
I taught High School Biology and Chemistry in Calgary for close to 40 years as well as being a Science Department Head. I taught Genetics as part of the Science Curriculum. We did the Punnet Square that the Father of Genetics, Gregor Mendel, first taught. Homozygous and Heterozygous crosses were taught. I found it interesting that you mentioned some of Gregor Mendel's terms. I told my students that Gregor Mendel once said, "Just one pea pickin' minute." (He used peas to illustrate his early crosses.) I enjoyed my students and of course I made the last comment with a smile on my face. 😊
Sucks to have a stillborn, esp as the first one born but it happens. Thanks for showing the reality of farming!! Loving the lil grey/cream calf. No doubts at all on that ones dad, be interesting to see if anymore pop out that colour. Kinda hoping for a couple of cream heifers that we can watch grow up n be mums themselves lol
I enjoyed your video today. Sorry the calf didn’t make it. It’s sad but that is a part of nature. At least the cow was saved. 😊 You are so good and show such compassion for your cows & calves. Those babies are adorable ☺️ Keep up the good work. This was the first time I saw your videos when it came across on my RUclips channel.
Rough way to start the season. Good thinking to have the old shoot in place; just sorry you had to use it. Hoping the rest of the calving season goes well.
Found your channel this morning and it seems pretty interesting. I live in the suburb of Washington DC and very rarely see a cow but its great to get a chance to witness your herd.
Hopefully that one sad loss is the only issue this calving season. Rivet’s calves are so cute - the lighter coloration makes it a little easier to distinguish their features. Looking forward to seeing how the season progresses!🤞🏼🐮
Gratz on the three healthy calves. Hopefully the stillborn was an outlier. BTW the shots out in the winter pasture are really beautiful. But as I Southern Californian I really love this time of year. Before the heat.. LOL.
I'm so sorry about your stillborn calf. Research into human stillborns still hasn't found a cause, just speculation. Your other calves are beautiful! I look forward to the rest of calving season!!!
You sure are a hard worker, you have a terrific work ethic. I do believe that you are in the right place. Your knowledge of what to do in this case what to do in that case what to improve and where to improve it and how to improve it. I love that you tackle any and everything, and that you tried it improve technique. I watched on RUclips on my TV where you you did machinery and manual post hole digging, cement forms put in and mixed your own cement etcetera etcetera etcetera. I've watched you build a gate and get it set up including putting plywood on it. Your grandfather would be extremely proud of what's your accomplishing. You are doing awesome. I am so happy that you're doing what you always wanted to do and that you have the support of your wife. God bless you
Rivet is throwing some chonky calves! I'll be interested to see if the dilute colored calves out of red cows/heifers wind up with brindling. Sorry about the first loss. Fingers crossed and a prayer tossed up its the only issue. Losing even one makes a difference... financially for sure but often more an emotional/psychological kick in the pants. I'm always left wondering what i should have done differently, even though shite does just happen sometimes.
Right on congrats I had 2 grays also one from a tan cow black bull and one white cow black bull lol looking good! Keep em coming right! God Bless Bull Lucero USMC
Grey is commonly a dominant color. I have bred red and black angus cows to Murray grey Bulls. Every calf ends up grey. If it is not grey (which can be black but generally not) then the Murray Grey bulls were not the father. Confirmed with genetic testing. It would be interesting to see if the same is true int your herd.
3 way cross is generally best terminal cross for feeder cattle. British cross mamas with continental genes on the sire side is a great mix for feeders.
Hay Tyler sorry to see how your calving seson started hope it gets better for you as the other cows start dropping their calves hope all goes well blessings to you and your family
Love ur videos Tyler and the way you take the time to explain everything in great detail, very informative!! Those babies r adorable but sorry for the loss of ur first calf. 🙏🏻 all the rest of the calving season goes great!! 👍😊😊🇨🇦
Unfortunate start to calving but it looks like things will improve. Good genetic discussion and how that directs the FTR! Glad your covering the "What If's" with your temp chute placement was in place! Good post FTR!
Sorry about the stillborn, it happens. The Rivet calves have the Char. look to them. Hope it works out well. Thanks for the video. Great again. PS. I grew up around those big white things. Great breed but can get kinda ornery.
That's a bummer the 1st calf is a stillborn, let's hope The negativity is out the way in the beginning Best luck To a happy & productive calving season
I do like you breeding types-style...gives cattle more strength-diversity-health...even if an inbreeding-accident.... brother, sister, cousin, father, mother.... were to happen ...won't hurt anything.
Your high contact method of working is really paying off. Being able to approach and handle those calves speaks highly to the cows trust for you.
A stillborn calf is never a good thing but those Rivet calves look damn cute and appear to be pretty sound. Over the next couple of years I'd expect the color of your herd to change quite a bit. The best news is Rivet is proving he is earning his keep and probably enjoys his work as well.
Yuuup.....Rivet is smiling as his calves 'hit the ground', so to speak . He's one proud Daddy !! And those are nice looking calves at that !!
Congratulations, Tyler! Rivet’s dam is an awesome cow that maintains her flesh, has a beautiful udder, and raises fat calves. His sire’s dam is also an excellent Simmental cow. I expect the heifers to be good ones for you!
Hey Jeremy!!
Yeah! Calves in the ground. Rivets babies are so cute. Sorry about the one you lost. Can’t wait to see the next video

I can't wait for calfing season we get so excited on our farm when we start having
I found myself pushing for her when you were pulling the afterbirth 😂. What gorgeous babies Rivet makes ❤😊
Tyler, you do it all!!! Vet, welder, mechanic, etc. great guy

The temporary chute worked great. Looks like Rivet was doing his job. Thanks for all your videos Tyler!
Aww So Sorry For Your Loss on the 1st Calf. Hopefully Mom is gonna do ok. Prayers the rest of them will be born doing good. It does happen like that sometimes though.😢
Sorry for the lose. Love the Rivet calves. Can't wait for up coming videos.
So sad about the first calf. However, the ones after are just adorable!!!! Rivet got around!!!!!
I’ve been waiting for this video!! I was wondering with Rivet being such small % Charolais if he’d throw smokes still. Interesting to see that 1/16 char in those calves are still bringing out the white.
Your empathy is amazing, it goes beyond the monetary of the calf.
Rivet sure throws some good looking calf’s hoping u don’t loose any more babies have a good weekend.
Those gray baldy calves are really bad ass looking! I really think they will preform for you hopefully you can get a few gray baldy heifers you can keep back for yourself Tyler! Hopefully your calving season goes smoothly bud!
That is so cool having Rivet babies!!
Seeing the cows calving in the sunshine on grass is great! You waiting that short time to breed has made a huge difference 👍 I wonder if that stillborn could’ve been breech and she just didn’t get it out in time? Riveter calves will be so fun to watch grow, so gorgeous!
So exciting to see Rivet's calves!
Loved the way you warned the cow about your cold hand 😅
Look how cute Rivets baby is 😊 hopefully the rest of the calving season goes well for you!! 🙏
It will be interesting to see how the heifers for Rivet develop and eventually have calves.
A sadness that you lost the one calf, Farmer Tyler. That's never a welcome thing. But....Rivet's babies are GORGEOUS, and have the same great conformation as their dad! Hi Tyler so sorry for your loss I guess that is such a heart ache for a farmer you love your animals so much I can tell you feel sad for her I’m sure any animal feels the loss well the new little one is a cutie and healthy take care better days ahead
Rivet is throwing some very cute calves!! Love that color!!
Thank you. Pretty calves. Sorry for the loss. Glad you still had the temporary Shute.
Rivet's offspring are beautiful.
Prayers that all the rest to come are healthy.
Was your first calf from a heifer?
Thank you! The stillborn was out of a middle aged cow
Looks like Riveter got busy! Sorry about the still born! I love the light color on these calves.
I've been waiting for those baby calves. We've had a 24 hour blizzard here in central Nebraska, farmers I'm sure we're working around the clock saving new born calves. May the rest of your calving season be a success!
I’m so sorry FT, praying the rest goes well. Busy time, but great job for all of your expertise! God’s blessings for you this spring calf season!❤❤❤❤
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO TYLER 😊 SORRY for the loss of the calf
So excited to see the coloration of all these calves. I’ve been eagerly waiting.
Thanks again for keeping it real Tyler!!
Hope you have a great calving season after loss of that first calf,so sorry about this.Great Blessings to you,and your precious family.

Great calving season ahead! Those Rivet calves are captivating!
Your content is always on par,,,, thanks for those video's.
Great explanation of genetics!!
Beautiful color in Rivet’s calves!!
Rivet has some really pretty caves!!! You are going to have a lot more white furry things walking around.

OMG I love those Rivet babys ❤
Charolais typically pass a diluter gene to their calves. Rivet was a busy boy.
Sucks to have a stillborn, esp as the first one born but it happens. Thanks for showing the reality of farming!! Loving the lil grey/cream calf. We have two of the “Smokey” heifers now that will likely be kept as replacements
@@farmertylerranch4399 Amazing!! Rivets been earning his hay lol
Yeah, Rivit babies, they are adorable!
Those are some cool looking calves
I enjoyed your video today. Sorry the calf didn’t make it. It’s sad but that is a part of nature. At least the cow was saved. 😊 You are so good and show such compassion for your cows & calves. I knew that Rivet was going to throw some beautiful calves! 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
Always fun to see the latest calf crop start hitting the ground.
Rough way to start the season. Good thinking to have the old shoot in place; just sorry you had to use it. Hoping the rest of the calving season goes well.
Ty, good job talking about the still born calfs mother. Also those rivet calves are pretty cute, im interested in how they grow.
Found your channel this morning and it seems pretty interesting. I live in the suburb of Washington DC and very rarely see a cow but its great to get a chance to witness your herd.
Rivets calves are beautiful colours!
Hopefully that one sad loss is the only issue this calving season. Rivet’s calves are so cute - the lighter coloration makes it a little easier to distinguish their features. Looking forward to seeing how the season progresses!🤞🏼🐮
Good looking calves. Good luck as you continue calving.
LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL SKY!
Thank goodness you listened to your gut and had the shute ready.
Gratz on the three healthy calves. Hopefully the stillborn was an outlier. BTW the shots out in the winter pasture are really beautiful. But as I Southern Californian I really love this time of year. Before the heat.. LOL.

I wish you the best luck for the rest of calving season!! And thanks for the super video!
It does suck to lose at the finish line. Happened to us St. Patricks day. Best of luck for the rest.

Love those grey calves

Things happen Tyler., you do a great job with your Cattle 3-26-2024❤
I look forward to your videos, best wishes from Florida!
Will you keep? Rivet son's the Calves look beautiful!
I hope that this was just a bad start! I'm remaining positive!! Come on Cows!
Watch out for a retained placenta this calving szn. Had one 2 weeks ago we thought had a baby still in her too. It was a retained placenta.
That's so sad but it definitely backs up your justification for keeping the old chute.

Love ur videos Tyler and the way you take the time to explain everything in great detail, very informative!! Those babies r adorable but sorry for the loss of ur first calf. 🙏🏻 all the rest of the calving season goes great!! 👍😊😊🇨🇦
I do hope you have better luck having healthy calving THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
Unfortunate start to calving but it looks like things will improve. Good genetic discussion and how that directs the FTR! Glad your covering the "What If's" with your temp chute placement was in place! Good post FTR!
A son and a daughter from Rivet straight up. Well done Rivet ! Will you keep her for replacement do you think
Those Gray cabs are very nice looking a lot cooler for the summer too hey so sad to lose that first calf the rest will be better
Farmer Tyler, good luck with the calving season. Sorry about the loss of the other calf.Good luck and God bless from across the pond in Great Britain
Love the color of Rivet’s calves. I know they don’t sell as well, but I would love to have a pasture full of momma cows with that color.
How sad about the calf. Great idea for the tags. Thx.
Sorry about the stillborn, it happens. The Rivet calves have the Char. look to them. Hope it works out well. Thanks for the video. Great again.
PS. I grew up around those big white things. Great breed but can get kinda ornery.
Dang! That’s terrible. The same thing happened to me. My first calf was still born also. Sorry to hear that.
During calfngg season I was checking every 2 hour around the clock every day. Out of 4 years I only lost 6 calfs
You're a very good teacher! 👍
Is 51 your new milk cow for your house? 💖🌞🌵😷
So sorry for the loss of the calf. Heartbreaking. Would it be possible to milk #51 for the colostrum and freeze it for a possible future bottle calf?
That's a bummer the 1st calf is a stillborn, let's hope The negativity is out the way in the beginning Best luck To a happy & productive calving season
Couple of nice looking calves already, best of luck with the rest of calving season. Hopeful the only loss this year.
I do like you breeding types-style...gives cattle more strength-diversity-health...even if an inbreeding-accident.... brother, sister, cousin, father, mother.... were to happen ...won't hurt anything.
So sorry you lost the calf. But the. Others are looking amazing
61 Acted more like a dog than a cow. She was so receptive to everything you did.
I had cow do the same thing a couple weeks ago
