This album is a celebration of the fact that ancient Celtic music had a considerable influence on the music of the ancient mediterranean region, including the music of ancient Turkey .... The Celts (or Galatians as the Ancient Turk's referred to the Celts) were invited to settle in ancient Anatolia (a region roughly corresponding to the provinces of Ankara, Çorum, and Yozgat, in modern Turkey) by King Nicomedes I of Bithynia; King Nicomedes required military help in a dynastic struggle against his brother. (The King hired the Celts as mercenaries - and gave them land - Galatia - as part of their payment). Three Celtic tribes numbering about 10,000 fighting men and about the same number of women and children, divided into three tribes, Trocmi, Tolistobogii and Tectosages, accepted the invitation and fought for King Nicomedes I. This Celtic migration led to the establishment of a long-lived "Galatian" territory in central Anatolia - again, roughly corresponding to the provinces of Ankara, Çorum, and Yozgat, in modern Turkey, and included the eastern part of ancient Phrygia - this "territory" became known as Galatia. After fighting for the Bithynian King Nicomedes, the Celts ultimately settled and after being strengthened by fresh arrivals from their clans in Europe, the Celts overran Bithynia and supported themselves by plundering neighbouring countries. The Celts who inhabited this region were called "Galatians" by the ancient Romans and the ancient Turks - as testified to by the "Letters to the Galatians" written by St. Paul and recorded in the New Testament .... On the way to Galatia, the Celts defeated the Roman Legions in the Battle of Allia (390 BC) 11 miles outside Rome. After the victory over the Roman Legions, the Celts "sacked" Rome. 100 years later (279 BC) the Celts defeated the Greeks at the Second Battle of Thermopylae. 200 years earlier, in 480 BC, "The 400" Greeks had defeated the Persian army at the same site. This is the forgotten history of the Celtic people and the almost 600 years during which the Celts had considerable influence on the art and music of the ancient mediterranean region.
I wonder when did the celts left this region of modern Turkey? Since the first Turks (called seljouk empire most appropriate) first appeared the 11th century, maybe Celts didn't really coexisted with "ancient Turks".
But the "oriental" instruments are played by two Greeks (Socrates Sinopoulos and Panos Dimitrakopoulos) and an Armenian (Haig Yazdjian). I think that Loreena wanted to perform a homage to the oriental music altogether, not exclusively Turkish music.

What a marvelous place, should have been the East! ....a Scottish woman from Canada can hear and be inspired by it's music and history, after centuries...
Sabemos q no nosso país quantidade nunca foi sinônimo de qualidade, Loreena está além do alcance cultural de muitos por estes terem ausência do bom gosto mesmo. Amo as músicas dela desde sempre.
I went out 6 days a week for 10 years going from live venue to venue, not getting paid to do it, heh. It doesn't get better than this when it comes to live.
My favorite song by far.
