Athanasius Kircher scholar, Jesuit priest, physician, inventor, polyglot, possessor of the mysterious Voynich manuscript and composer of this beautiful music. He definitely deserves to be better known.
Why did I think this was Cazzati? Apologies to Kircher, were they ever connected? Just wondering where i mis-understood. Thanks for any enlightenment. :-)
I listen to this beautiful, uplifting piece of music at least once a day and am so thankful to these wonderfully talented people for bringing me so much awe and joy
Just very rarely, when listening to a piece of music that I've come across for the first time, I'm both moved to tears and gasping for breath, at the beauty of it. This is one of those moments.

A real treat! That's how much creativity you can get from a piece that always stays on the same chord sequence. Mysterious, subtle, refined, evocative, a perfect team game and extreme skill of the individual. There were artists like that!
There's something haunting about this ground bass (chord progession). I don't know what it is. This performance is certainly one of the most beautiful ever. In addition to all the beautiful strings, the castanets add so much. As the pace gets faster, one can imagine the dancers dancing into a frenzy, probably not that different from Spanish dancing nowadays.
Se una persona non è uno sciocco, capirà immediatamente tutto. Tesoro ! Diamante ! Divino ! Insolito ! Potente ! Spiritualmente, musicalmente ! Emozionante ! Bravo ! Bravissimo

It's amazing how most of the comments go this way. You know why is that? It's because this is real music of a real world. We don't live in a real world anymore. And I really mean it.
@@mjvictoriano I definitely get your point, but I venture to believe that you are a bit too categorical. There are still people who live in a real world and I am fortunate enough to be one of them. Being surrounded by lots of real trees helps a lot.

Athanasius Kircher must have been one of the most brilliant people who ever lived because he excelled in so many fields besides music -he even was one of the earliest Egyptologists who attempted to explain and translate the hieroglyphics!
Love it, Love it, Love it. I am a long time fan of Early Music, pre-renaissance, lots of CD's on the Dorian label. and this is an excellent performance, just love it
This is a strange irony: I am a musician and an admirer of athanasius kircher, but I had no idea he was a composer in addition to all of his other pursuits!
Yeah, what an amazing and versatile guy, and apparently he even wrote this specifically to include the castanets, a curious choice of instruments for a German Jesuit priest!

The reverberation after the creshendo is like a siren call- so tempting, so inviting... yet fleeting: like trying to catch a ghost. Left with nothing but a shadow of a memory.
How extraordinary! From the 17th century & it sounds as fresh as a daisy, still! The real star of this performance is the castanets player. It’s a pity they did not include more of her amazing ability, style & poise.

OMG I have never realized it was the same Athanasius Kircher as the one in the Voynich Manuscript! :O
Thank you for pointing that out :)
