I don’t know many other cities that deserve some sort of winning more

They were the only other team I’ve ever rooted for other than the red wings and only from 03-04 to like 10-11. I loved those slug jerseys and the big Sabres head with the red and black. Afinogenov was one of my favorite players. Pominville, Connolly, Roy, Miller. All of em.
considering that we've recently seen the Caps and Blues get their first Cups, if we get to see the Sharks, Sabres, or Canucks get one within the next several years or so, however likely it is, that'd just be amazing for the NHL

Toronto born Buffalo Sabres fan here. And this video made my day. So thanks for the history lesson, Sir. P.S. Favourite Sabres player of All-Time was Don Luce. Favourite goalie was Ryan Miller. Though *hands down* the 2 best Sabres of All-Time were Gilbert Perreault & Dominik Hasek. IMHO, of course.
Pat LaFontaine was a guy that recieved multiple headshots and really dirty ones too. They where not by accident ether and back then if you got knocked out you became a larger target it seems.
Living in T.O. I watched a lot of Sabre hockey growing up (cue the Flight of the Bumblebee music). The “French Connection” line has to be in the top ten ever.Gil Perrault IMHO is the second best player to not win the Cup (I’d put Lindros ahead of him). Schoenfeld one of the greatest that I was lucky enough to see. Jerry Korab and Danny Gare, hadn’t heard those names in a while - pretty amazing players - and the Sabres had many.- so thanks for that.
I remember a game in the mid 80's. The Sabres were trying to tie the winning streak on the road. This night, in St. Louis. There were down 2-1. Brent Peterson wins a face off and they score. The went on to win 3-2 keeping that streak alive. Please feel free to correct me if needbe. It was a long time ago.
You said "The NHL got 15 Proposals from 10 cities." Who were the 4 cities that did not get a team? I was just born that year, my memory falls me who was rejected for expansion.
The Sabres got Housley and TB by trading Jerry Korab and Rick Martin to the LA Kings for 1st round picks in 82 and 83. They were separate deals, but Martin played like 10 games for the LA Kings with a bad kneed. I heard the story about Martin was when the Kings picked him up from the airport, he was walking with a limp and a cane! Great job George McGuire! The Kings a few months after trading for Korab, drafted a young defensemen 4th overall, who would become a HOF, Larry Murphy! Most of Murphy's career was made with other teams!!
I think it's important to note that that Hasek trade to Detroit was forced by Hasek. Even the return was manipulated by him. Slava didn't want to play here and I don't think played past a year. Buffalo had their hands tied and made, what I consider an awful deal. Hasek was amazing but boy could that guy bring home the Drama.
a great trade that the Sabres made and you forgot to mention and that was also a kind of a blockbuster: Zhitnik, Huddy, Stauber and a 5th to Buff for Fuhr, Boucher and Tsygurov to LA.
I think one of the dumbest things the franchise has done was not resigning Peca. It lead to Hasek demanding his trade to the Redwings. The 2005-6, 2006-7 are 2 very underrated hockey teams in NHL history. Very weird how a team with so much success could lose it's co-captains (Briere and Drury) to free agency. Essentially the Sabres have never recovered from that to this day.

they just need one playoff run to get them going. I always liked the team but lately, they were so depressing with losing that it is hard to like them...
Buffalo is one of those franchises that never seems to catch a break. It’s a great hockey town. Fans are awesome. That said, they are a small market team that has to be creative to not just develop talent but more importantly retain talent. The Sabres have the same problems the Isles have, revenue. Of the three New York teams, only the Rangers can charge $150-1200 per ticket EVERY game and still sell out most times than not. There’s a reason why the Isles still do games in Brooklyn. That being, they make more in revenue in Handful of games in Brooklyn than an entire season in Naussau. Don’t like it. Think it’s unfair.
