    btw if you see any misgendering in pronouns in the eng subs it's the person who wrote the captions' fault. they're not using pronouns when talking in korean

    I hope everyone in the comments can understand that they aren’t misgendering. They are using they/them pronouns it’s just the captions messing up the pronouns. It’s not easy to translate Korean to English, let alone change the pronouns as well to make the grammar make sense. So let’s keep some ease and not throw unnecessary hate. Let’s educate, not hate!!

      I have watched many shows where the translation/subtitles even get the pronouns wrong for cisgender individuals so it's really just an honest mistake and not an attempt at misgendering.

      oh whew i was worried about them "only getting the pronouns right half the time". that makes me feel better, and i understand it's hard when there are gendered words in your language.
      it makes me feel lucky that english doesn't have any gendered words and happy too because it makes it easier for people who don't use she/her and he/him to be able to use the pronouns that they are comfortable with and properly represent them; and easier for the people around them to use the right pronouns instead of having trouble using gender neutral words that are normally gendered. (i hope that makes sense i feel like my sentence is fucked but im too lazy to rewrite it properly)

      I really hate when that happens- When English-only speakers start judging first instead of asking if the translation/eng subs was incorrect or not. I swear I see a bunch of toxic, non-Korean "kpop fans" make the same mistake, misunderstanding an idol's words or twisting their words so they look bad when in reality the idols didn't even mean it to be bad at all. Translating Korean to English is difficult and some sayings are difficult to translate well to the exact meaning too; but English-Subs-Only people are quick to judge a different language based off a third-person-translator. It gets frustrating at times.

    It seems so strange to me that they didn't know that women can be trans men, that they can have top surgery, and that they can grow a beard if they do testosterone hormone replacement therapy. I guess that's just because transgender people do not have any visibility in Korea because of how conservative it is. In the US I feel like this is common knowledge.

    • @OfftheWallTales
      @OfftheWallTales 3 года назад +240

      I'm not terribly surprised that they don't realize everyone has both hormones and just the quantity changes how one looks. I've seen this channel, or perhaps a similar one (Dimple I think?) where they met their first openly gay person. And any mistakes or unknown information comes from that conservative upbringing - like I heard wrong pronouns used, trying to guess if they had surgery, and in that video about gays asking who is top and bottom or who is the man and the woman.
      I'm just really glad that the newer generation knows the words and are so open to learning, as they'll be the ones teaching the youngest generation shortly (or already if they have kids).

    It's really interesting how people assume that transition is all about surgery, and sometimes they conclude that it's weird and unnatural from that.

      @ninetailskwami 3 года назад +7

      you're right that for trans people it is something that is different in your brain, but it's not something that is inherently terrible to live with. it is like any other way a brain can be, we have our own struggles, but it is not a bad thing. most do experience discomfort with their body though, or with how people around them treat them. but i wouldn't say it is terrible to live with. it has its positives really, the experiences you get to go through that no cis people get to see, are incredible. you get to understand people more from their point of view because of the way you've personally lived different lives. you can understand how men and women experience life, and often grow compassion and understanding for other people who maybe aren't trans but are going through something also very different from social expectations, and you can be there for them and open-minded in a way you might not have been if you were cis.

      @@ravena1441 With all due respect, this stuff doesn't necessarily get easier if you just hide parts of the community until they "learn more". All that will happen is that they will adjust to binary trans people and then become more skeptical about non binary people because they had never heard of them before. It's best for them to learn all at once while they're still in the stage of "what else is there to learn?"
      Especially because.. There are already a lot of trans and non binary people actually in Korea. It's not really something exclusive to the west, so the sooner the learn the better for the community that's actually a part of their own nation.

      @@faestreya I didn't say anyone needed to hide it. Nor did I say that it shouldn't be explained to them before they "learn more". I also never claimed that there weren't people of any particular gender or sexual orientation in Korea. I said that it would be harder to address until they understand more about other sexualities and relationships. I believe you misinterpreted what I wrote. They seemed to barely be able to wrap their heads around transgender people, and so, it would make sense that they would struggle (possibly even more so) with nonbinary, genderfluid and bigender people. Hell, I bet you they would struggle more so with ace and aro people because even people in Western countries can't wrap their heads around it. Also, I think the only reason this video exists is because transgenders a more well known than nonbinary, genderfluid and so on people. It's just like how you see a lot more videos about lesbians and gays as well. Because they are more "popular" or well known in America.

    for anyone who doesnt watch a lot of korean content: the korean language does NOT use gendered pronouns. no one is being misgendered here 🥰
    programs like google translate automatically change the gender neutral pronoun "그" to "he" because ENGLISH dictates that adding gendered words to a sentence that didnt use them originally is somehow more grammatically correct than simply using a direct translation of they/them.
    example: if a korean person says "robert downey jr is cool. they have a beard." its stupidly considered more correct to translate it as "rdj is cool. HE has a beard." even tho the speaker never said he. for this reason mismatched english pronouns is a COMMON mistake in the subtitles of korean videos even when the subject is cis, so please understand its a problem w/ the english language not w/ anyone actually misgendering people 💙💕🤍💕💙

    I have so so much to say about this video, nothing negative ! Honestly it's endearing ,,
    Transgender is split into two categories, or umbrellas, one being binary (man and female) and nonbinary, which can be a lot of things but the basic is they don't fit into the binary genders (male and female),
    3:03 personally the comment about mind and body, I'll explain it the best I can, it just feels wrong, like no matter what you do or shove it aside its so daunting because everyone perceives you in a way you've never truly seen yourself. Thing of it like looking in the mirror and you see fuzz and static and not truly your face nor body, because you can't see what others see.
    3:35 I was surprised to hear that ftm (female to male) was more common to them but maybe I just happen to know way more transmasc people, it was,, honestly sweet,, to not be called something tragic or a trend.
    1:57 Not all transgender people are brave enough to face who they are, they feel something is wrong but are so afraid to face it, so that's why some will even get married and have kids, they don't know what else to do.
    6:34 Me (They/he) and my brother (He/They) are actually both transgender, it's more common then you'd think, when you grow around people you trust like that at a close age,, you tend to be similar, not the same but similar. They always say birds of a feather flock together and thats a very good example with that.

    The fact that most people wouldn't even recognise that someone they're passing in public is trans makes so much of the anti-trans rhetoric and politics so weirdly funny (in a tragic way) to me. One of my closest friends is a trans woman. She came out to us about four years ago, no one in our friendgroup had any issues changing how we address her and no one felt weird or awkward about it. Seeing her slowly transform over the yers have been beautiful, seeing her smile more genuinely, seeing her personality truly blossom. She has only just recently gotten the ok from doctors to get surgeries and she'll be shaving down her Adam’s apple soon as the first procedure. People who talk about "kids getting pressured into being trans and getting irreversible surgeries" have no idea how difficult it is even for adults to get those surgeries. My friend has had to fight for this extremely hard and if she had showed any hesitation at all at any step of the way, she wouldn't have been able to get the ok for it. I know this is kinda rambly, but I'm just so proud of her and it infuriates me that some ignorant, hateful people out there would want to deny people like my friend the chance of truly becoming themselves and living a fulfilling, happy life as the person they were meant to be just because it makes them feel a bit uncomfortable (even though it has literally no impact on their own lives) and seeing the people in this video being so respectful and understanding made me kinda emotional.

      I think it's a mistake by the translator. As far as I'm aware (and pls correct me if I'm wrong) Korean doesn't really use pronouns like he/him or she/her, so when speaking it's all neutral and based on context what gender they're referring to, so the misgendering has happened in translation when an English pronoun has to be chosen.
      I don't know who translates these videos but perhaps they sent a transcript of the Korean to someone to translate into English and without the context provided by the video mistakes were made?

    Ah for anyone who's confused too, "t" is short for testosterone, which a lot of transmasc people take to get deeper voices or facial hair! I'm getting close to being able to take T myself!!
    Also it made me happy when then switched pronouns when referring to the people after they transitioned, even if they messed up a little. Cause a lot of the time people still continue to refer to trans people as their birth name or original pronouns.
    I like they way they talked about it too, a lot of people do feel reborn when they go through transition because they are becoming a person they are meant to be.
    Those twins were very cool and they make me very interested in genetics. Cause there are little mini parts in our x and y chromosomes that determine different things (including hormone levels, genetals, etc), so those twins transitioning together is just an example of those cool fun facts about genetics!!

    Thank you for showing people like me. I know that especially in more conservative societies the thing that is holding us back is a lack of visibility and understanding.
    I think that it is important for people to see the part of the transgender experience that is euphoria rather than focusing on the dysphoria. All too often people are alienated from trans individuals because they don't understand our rejection of our assigned gender and they tend to focus on what we "should be" because of birth sex.
    But to see a trans person so happy and healthy in their transition brings understanding of why we need to support these people and help them get to that point.

The minute you decide to out yourself as trans your life becomes infinitely more dangerous. And some of these people like Nikita Dragun (was in one of the tiktoks) are extremely privileged. But love the video thanks guys love you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    for future reference, when you explain to these lovely people about transgender individuals, and for anyone in the comments who doesn't know, there is not physical and mental gender. gender is purely psychologically, meaning that person is born with a brain that develops into the gender they identify as. what you call physical gender is just genitalia. genitalia is formed because of your chromosomes. THAT is what sex is, your chromosomes. which is why there are four other sexes that exist that fall under the "intersex" category, meaning they're neither female nor male, because they don't have XX (female) or XY (male) chromosomes, they have a different combination of chromosomes.
    this has been scientifically proven, by the way.
