Grandmom's 1234 Pound Cake with Cats

2 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup sugar (2 cups sugar if making without icing)
4 eggs
1 cup milk
3 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line round cake pan with parchment paper and butter. Cream butter with hand mixer until light and fluffy. Add sugar and stir to combine. Add eggs to bowl one at a time, combining after each addition. Add milk and vanilla and stir to combine. Add salt and slowly add flour in small batches. Batter should not be thick. Careful not to over-beat. Pour into cake pan and place in center rack of oven. Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before icing.
