This team is like the Hindenburg. You looked at the theory and it didn’t look like it would work, and yet it took off. For a while it looked like it would make it, and you couldn’t help but wonder if something would go wrong. Eventually, it all collapsed in spectacular fashion, and all we could do is watch it unfold in shock.
Well said
Perfect analogy
Some people are just gifted speakers.
I love Torts for his toughness and candid comments. Also think he is a great coach and not only did he have guys blocking a ton of shots (with Nick Sealer setting the tone) but he also taught them how to break out of the zone and move the puck quickly up the ice. This was a huge improvement over past years. However, he will probably only be coach for another year or two before he wears out his welcome. Perhaps the Flyers keep him on in some capacity, but I think there will be a coaching change over the next two years. Your summary is a very good one of the Flyers organization. Michkov may come over sooner than the expiration of his contract and I think they will try to draft and/or acquire a center who will fit well with him. Helenius? I think Briere and company will try to accelerate this rebuild as much as possible even though that may be very difficult. But they are clearly open to offers and I imagine they will be proactive in looking to trade for players and sign free agents in this regard. So far their track record has been excellent in the free agent market with signings such as Hathaway, Poehling and Sean Walker last year. Can't wait to see what they do with the 12th pick in the draft; the priority seems to be a center, but if one of the top 5 rated defensemen falls to them will they take the "best player available"?
Kolosov already is in the US. He ended the season in LV
Rebuilding is the top priority but i think flyers will be in the hunt even more so if we get michkov
I hate being a flyers fan we are stuck in hockey purgatory
🤭
Just be glad you’re not a leaf fan
You’re kidding right? We have a top 3 ranked prospect pool with a young core that almost made playoffs. We have Michkov (potential generational talent) and 5 first round and 5 second round picks in the next 3 drafts. 😂😂😂😂
@@cmz5847 Every offseason we kid ourselves with how good we are going to be. But we never are. That my friend is hockey purgatory
@@cmz5847no goaltending
I'm never against building off of surprises. It's about instilling the mentality and work ethic from the beginning regardless of expectations. The downsides tanking brings is loser's mentality, inexperience, and you might not even get the player you're hoping for from the draft.
As this was my first hockey season I watched all the way through I can’t really comment much but am hopeful. Appreciate your honest commentary.
this is why we need to hold off on exspansion.the prospects coming up now need time to fill the pool
Now we see how the drafting really goes. They took on a contract and it really worked out badly with him being not injured enough to play for Colorado, but too injured to play for Philly.
The goalie situation in camp should be fun.
And we'll see who said they can't deal with Torts and get traded at the draft or something. Pick12+(unhappy player) or something to move up?
A little more scoring would be so big. If they'd had an 18th place power play, they make the playoffs.
Thanks for another great season in the books Shannon. Sincerely, an exhausted Flyers fan
Short answer: No
Incorrect
In their division, anything can happen.
This team needs talent in all areas. Their best player is a second liner on most teams. Still far away and feel they struggle next season.
Another good review, Mr. Guy
I love my flyers. I predict they turn into a total of 82-85 points this next season. It’ll hard to be that certain when the schedule come out for like 6 weeks. I feel maybe at the end next season with SKA Michkov stands a chance to be on team of 2025 season. I feel the 25/2026 season is when I see him wearing the uniform. Briere and Jones communicating with KHL especially Fedotov got out of his deal early. Brink might fall victim to Tort’s casualty like Frost has already fallen victim.
There's been talk going around that Michkov may be coming over sooner than expected.
talk is cheap
I couldn't work out what this team was on a week-to-week basis this season.
I can't imagine I'll be any clearer by this time next year
Kolosov is already in NA playing for the Phantoms
Carter Hart screwed this team this year and probably for a few more
if the players can tolerate Torts for 2 more seasons, they should be in great shape. Briere can only hope
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Red Wings
They’ll finish with about the same points maybe a tad more but could still be looking out of a playoff spot.
Just have to endure a number of these onerous Fletcher-era contracts. He's going to haunt us into the 2030s with them.
If Carter hart didn’t get arrested the flyers would have finished as one of the top teams .carter hart was carrying them.look at the record after he was arrested
I don’t know man. It’s always hard to predict the strength of any draft and there seems to be plenty of top end talent that project to fall in and around pick 12. I do wonder if they trade up to target a specific player though. We should keep an eye for double interviews with certain prospects ala Michkov.
draft picks are nothing more than suspects
Maybe overachiever this year fall off a bit next season?
Short answer: Yes
Hopefully Drysdale can stay healthy for them.
he's walking wounded. Will not do well
Everyone I hoped would do well have been a huge disappointment
Uh oh. Too early again. No sound.
At least you can leave comments, mine keep getting eaten for some reason...
Fedotov and Michkov are wild cards that could cause this to go in any direction. They are also in the weakest division in the league (Hurricanes and Rangers being the exception).
5 firsts and 5 second round picks in the next 3 drafts with Michkov coming over. It’s a good time to be a flyers fan
I'm 46 years old. I love my Fly Guys. I hope they are so bad next season. They should trade everyone and anyone they can for the better of the team. They need stars and studs. They have their star forward and goalie in Russia for now and should try to be bad for better draft picks and higher talent or trade for the talent. That's what's needed.
Fedotov will be horrendous so there’s that
@@ugiswrong I hope so
@@ugiswrong he's not the goalie I'm speaking about
@@Scootermcgruder Kolosov?
@@kosmicwizard Zavragian. Sorry, I apologize for spelling
BONK! TO BRINK! BACK TO BONK! BONK, TO BRINK, HE SCORES! BONKY BRINK!
I don’t think they make the playoffs next year. I think they take a step back & end up with a top 10 pick in the 2025 NHL draft.
My comments keep getting eaten. What's up with that?
If Hart gets picked up by another team I'm out for life
If he gets picked up by jail wyd then? 😂
Watched every game this season. I was heartbroken at the end, but now that there's been time to breath I am genuinely optimistic about this team.
PROS:
- Blue line has REALLY stepped up this year, especially Cam York and Travis Sanheim, legit top pair
- Goaltending, even though Ersson's numbers look bad, was generally solid and for Philadelphia that's rare
- Danny Briere as GM had to deal with a lot but still has us positioned well
- Prospects look really encouraging - Barkey, Bonk, Kolosov
- MITCHKOV might be here sooner than anticipated
- Transition offense looked legit
CONS:
- Power play is beyond atrocious. Historically bad.
- No depth at center position
- Offense is lacking scoring talent, can't finish
- The John Tortorella Show is exhausting already
This offseason will be very, very interesting.
It's at least a 5 years rebuild.
And the Mad Russian is coming the Flyers way.
He will be the guy that attracts the free agents.
God I can't wait for Michkov.
Let's go Flyers!
Yeah why not. Michkov will probably come over much sooner, be put on the LTIR and return just in time for the Playoffs. Or something.
LTIR was not a step anyone expects. He doesnt have a large salary they need under cap next season, so no need to use LTIR.
LTIR and someone like Kucherov on the lightning does highlight a problem.
I gotta say I'm happy overall with where the Flyers are compared to a year ago. Danny B has been very good as GM so far. We have 4 firsts and 4 seconds over the next 2 years. I do wish we were a bit higher than 12, but it is what it is. A lot of the young guys really stepped up over the last year. It also looks like the Old Boys Club is no longer in power, which is the best thing that could happen to this franchise.
I think the Flyers' priorities right now should be:
1. Priotize player development, trade for picks and prospects as much as possible. Honestly, trade Konecny if you can.
2. Don't resign anyone, let these bloated contracts expire to build cap space
3. Get Michkov over at the first available opportunity
4. Take notes from the Phillies and build a strong clubhouse culture. Become the type of team free agents want to come to.
The Flyers will never progress until they stop living in the 70's. This team needs scoring, scoring, and more scoring. Haven't had a sniper since LeClair and they traded away their top scoring prospect for a bag of peanuts. All they do is bring in muckers and grinders. I turn 59 next month and fear I will never see another Cup. My Arizona Cardinals will will win the Super Bowl before the Flyers win another Cup.
We've not had anyone like LeClair, but we have had snipers since him. He was more of a power forward anyways, but has nice hands and a great shot.
Hope we trade TK, acquire more picks and young prospects, and plan for a Michkov lead team. Don't care about the next 3 years
Not sure Torts is a plus for them at this point..he can’t stand being anywhere but in the hunt no matter the roster depth so pushing guys hard as his innate ness..end up with a team like this year over performing and finishing nowhere near the lottery higher draft picks. Without much cap space I would go with a coach who has a good energy to cope with young players and rebuild status. Bruce Boudreau.
The Flyers should just blow it up. The one bright spot is gone. The rest is a mess.
Blow what up? They are 1 or 2 years into a rebuild (whenever their new GM took over). They were not supposed to be anywhere close to a playoff spot this year.
You don’t even know what you’re watching 😂😂😂
@@csolivais1979 Which means they didn't blow it up enough the first time. Keep blowing it up until this team is as awful as the Sharks.
@@cmz5847 I saw a team that has too much for the draft lottery but not enough for the playoffs. Tell me what you saw...
@@cmz5847 I watched a team that had too much for the draft but not enough for the playoffs. Tell me what you were watching...
As a Flyers fan, I don't care where they finish so long as Carter Hart never plays a game for them again.
Flyers will make the playoffs. I will revisit this comment next season
Maybe they should get a real coach first
What? Everyone predicted them to finish dead last in their division, and he almost got them into a playoff spot. On a team that is, according to the GM, entering a rebuild. So, unless your argument is he is to good and hurting their draft lottery odds, I gotta ask, what you smokin?
