I'm am the original owner of a 2006 Chili Red R52 JCW. I've kept it close to stock (torsion bar and new rear control arms) except for the stripes. Almost 160,000 miles and going strong. In fact, it still drives like the first week I owned it. I bought a new GP3 but will never give this one up.
Lovely story sir and thanks for sharing the history. I am a newbie with mini . I just bought one Mini R52 2005 Convertible with only 30404 miles and Im loving it
Thanks for sharing your story. I would love a JCW and came close to buying one last summer but was beat out in my bidding at the very last second. Just doing some shake down runs on my 10/9/2006 build slick top R53. Picked it up Oct 2020 out of Seattle with 41,900 miles. Over the Winter I went through the front suspension and replaced all wear parts. Then went ahead and did all maintenance, Supercharger service and reduction pulley install, new colder spark plugs, new coolant and hoses, StopTech slotted brake discs and Hawk pads, along with a transmission service and an oil change. The car runs perfectly. Handles wonderfully. Quick but not fast which is safer for me and my monthly insurance bill. Hard to beat for the price point and I believe my Mini is quicker and will get out of the corners better than my friends with Porsche and BMW’s for 1/4 the price.
Greeting, I love your channel, Mini addiction, professional videos, the whole package! I have a 2005 Mini S convertible I ordered new, waited months to have it built and took delivery in April 2005. I ordered all the options related to performance except the JCW kit that was so expensive at that time and I didn't want a dealer mechanic messing with my engine. I upgraded with original JCW intake air box and the front spring towers cross bar. Miltex SS exhaust, 15% pulley, colder plugs, larger injectors, and the ECM flashed with the JCW factory tuning done at the dealer. I wanted it to be JCW like without the price tag. Oh a thicker rear sway bar and SS braided brake hoses. Side story. Our Mini club went to a performance tune/dyno shop and had our cars dyno tested. There was a JCW 2006 Mini that had the "kit" as a factory installed option! He was bummed because my Mini came out to have three more WHP then his. I put my Mini in environment controlled storage in 2011 when I retired and moved to Costa Rica. It has
Hi Roland. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Sounds like you have an amazing R52. For the R56 JCW brake conversion, you’ll need rotors, pads, and R56 brake lines. The R90 wheels do clear them, but just barely (like 1mm). I’ve seen people do this successfully, but I opted for a 5mm wheel spacer to be safe. 3mm would work too.
@@MINIstryOfSpeed01 Thank you so much for the prompt reply and great information....soso helpful! Did you have to reprogram the ABS and traction control systems? Mine is liquid yellow. Thanks, I could talk to you for days about MIni's for sure. Cheers
Great Video and history of your JCW! Your original video of the car inspired me in my recent purchase of my second JCW. An 06 JCW Competition Edition (Canada)...also Chili Red! It's defiantly hard letting them go...I can't find it in myself to part with one. I always feel I'd regret it after
Found the business card from the original motoring advisor in the owners manual. Called her and she advised me about the history. Then did some digging and found tbe photo. Certain unique details were all there!
R53 2005 owner , planned to supertune it ( but it’s AUTO so that limits it ) or get covert it exactly like yours ( Italian job style ) but it’s impossible to find the aerokit nowadays. Any suggestion? Btw I’m sure you will get another jewel soon . Cheers 🍻
Had one just like it. Loved the looks but the materials suck. Plastics suck bad. Working on it is not fun. Sold a 05 accent 2 door for the mini. Sold the mini after a year had to wait 4 more years to buy my Hyundai back
I just bought the exact same car same color. But mine has more options on the interior. 12000 miles mine has. I don't know why they let you put that in the museum because it doesn't have the original Wheels that's not how it came. Mine has lower miles and all original. You're lucky they didn't know about mine at the time because they would have never considered yours then...js
Excellent R53. Nice story, great tour of the car. I own an R53 myself, and will never, ever sell it, no matter what I am offered.
Yep they are getting rare.

Cool! I sat in that car in 2006 at the auto show. Amazing you were able to find it (twice)
Wow that’s awesome!

No reprogramming is required. Just needed to do a full bleed of the brakes (including bleeding the ABS using the shop computer method)
I just bought a 2006 S checkmate. Chili red here in San Diego. My first project car.
Awesome overview of the 'ultimate' JCW R53!

A very well presented video of a great car👍
Glad you liked it!
That Mini Cooper R53 JCW looks like an exact same match the 2003 movie "The Italian Job".
I was not planning on getting emotional when I clicked this video. Great stuff nevertheless.
Glad you enjoyed it Jeremiah
EXCELLENT video, mate! A nice bit of documental history and a lovely story, indeed... Cheers!
p.s. sounds like someone found himself an R53 GP!!
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Owned an R53 GP many years ago.

This ;). ruclips.net/video/7Wp5gCaFJwA/видео.html
Did you have the bottom(between the tires) of the car painted. It look great!
Hi Harvie. That area is part of the optional MINI Aerodynamic body kit, which gets painted when installed.
@@MINIstryOfSpeed01 Thanks. Would it be possible to paint the one that comes on the car. It just looks so much better.
I was going to sell mine but changed my mind at the last minute. #minitwin
Hi twin
Oh man! Can we can know much you sold it for? :)
Love your cars! How did you know it was THAT CAR?
