The rich corrupted people are what makes this anime so intense. while the titans are the obvious threat, you start to see they are not the only threat. This makes the main characters completely surrounded by danger; the anime makes you feel the main characters are NEVER safe. I absolutely hated those rich guys too, but it could be considered realistic. I'm waiting to see how Eren overcomes these threats.
I agree with shadow. By putting in such grotesque stereotypes as actual elements of the story they kinda taint the realism and investment the raist of the anime earned.
Should've finished the video before posting. Although some characters were simply cartoons, they did explore much more than just our inability to cooperate. Like mass hysteria, our determination to hold on to traditions, religions (poorly)... And that business owner you kept showing wasn't really one of the stereotypical fatcats that I'm agreeing with you on imo. Also rest*.
Exactly. Each their own. Shadow, I have to disagree with you. If you were going into this anime expecting something like Full Metal Alchemist where the hero is almost entirely safe as long as he or she works together with everyone else as a team, then this show was clearly not for you. Normally, just because its dark doesn't mean that it's good. Also, IMO, this wasn't meant to be a good/lovey dovey story where "if you work together, you will triumph over anything". If you ask me, this AOT is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of FMA. I'm dead serious. It doesn't matter how strong or hard you work together as a team. In FMA, if you work together as a team, you will emerge victorious in any battle regardless; however, in AOT even if you work together as a team, even if you are the best of the best, you will STILL get killed regardless if you make one little mistake. Edward Elric is an idealist. ErinYeager is a realist. FMA conveys the idealization of life. AOT conveys the realism of life. FMA is "The Lord of the Rings" of Anime. AOT is "The Game of Thrones" of Anime. In FMA the bad guys are merciful. If you make a mistake. It's okay, don't worry about it. They won't try to murder you alive, and even if they do, your friends will protect you and there's no way you're going to die, unless you have to die in order for the plot to advance onward. But still, you're not going to die because....let's face it, you're one of the major characters. You can't die. Now, some of side characters might get killed, but that's okay. You'll still live. In AOT the bad guys are merciless. Yes, I get it. It's a complete one-dimensional stereotype. And normally, I despise such fucking assholes, but here....wow....it was amazing! It really made me feel like, "It doesn't matter if you're the epic bad-ass hero, you're going to die regardless." I love that! Hell, the one-dimensional assholes scare the crap out of me! With such heartless bastards in power, you're NEVER safe! And if you're never safe, then you will start to feel angry, furious, disgusted, and isolated! And when you start to feel like that, you fall into the madness! And when you fall into the madness, your friends will die. That's excellent writing in my opinion. The manga has the same exact one-dimensional assholes, and it only scares the shit out of you further. FMA and AOT are mutually exclusive from one another. As such, I have to disagree with you on "AOT trying to be like FMA". Trust me, if AOT was trying to be like FMA, it would have been far more light-hearted and it would be more like an innocent adventure turning dark and intense or something. One more thing, I'm NOT trying to change anyone's opinion. All to their own, ShadowACS.
Index Given that half the points you made against my review were of stuff that I never even mentioned (ie me saying the show "shouldn't have been dark" when in reality I actually praised that aspect of it at one point), I suggest you take your own advice and just accept that I have a different opinion.
I applaud your honesty and conviction whilst everyone else is sucking the metaphorical dick of this show and praising it as the greatest thing since pen touched paper. I loved the show and everything in it made me crave more while at the same time feeling sad that this is a one-in-great-while kind of anime. The thing that pissed me off the most was the debilitating fear that everyone, except a handful of characters, had. I remember yelling at my screen telling them to attack, to move, to f'ing do something. The one episode where a group of soldiers was on the roofs watching a group of titans eat another team was infuriating, considering that the titans had their backs to the soldiers on the roof.
A lot of the problems you mentioned I think were done on purpose to give the show a mysteriousness to it. If the 2nd season follows the manga then most of these issues will be solved, for example a good amount of the side characters will have much larger roles (almost as big as the three main characters) in season 2. Not going to spoil anything but there is a reason for all this stuff that I'm willing to bet will be shown when the anime returns.
This is one of my favorite shows ever, but I'll admit that you are dead right. I think the side characters had the potential to be truly memorable, but they don't give them enough screen time to grow. I hate the rich evil snob cliche. It's a stupid, one-dimensional, obvious way to tell a message that everyone's heard before and no one listens to. This message is one that humanity needs to learn, but these bang-you-over-the-head social commentaries are doing nothing to fix that.
For me the worst thing about AOT is the characters. Most of them are just not interesting. And I find that it's very difficult to be invested in any of the characters when I know most of them are more than likely going to get killed pretty quickly.
7:45 The deaths of the random people was really to develop the psychological state of characters such as Jean I think , because when you look at the end of the season Jean is more composed and like , depressed you could say? Which is because of how he saw his friends dying , just my opinion doe xD
A lot of the Deaths in this Anime almost reminded me of the deaths in the Jurassic Park Movies. The only difference is, the Deaths in the Jurassic Park Movies, are deaths you can EASILY predict!
i don't tink any of the characters are properly developped (not even the 3 maine ones), that was my biggest problem with the show... For fma 2003, ed is so well developped from the beginning ( and for fmab after we meet Izumi). But for Attack on titan, the fight scenes make it almost impossible to really connect with the characters..
Yes! Finally someone who understands Mikasa's character! Oh, and the Side-Character comment... wait until season two (or read the manga) where all the side characters get a lot more depth to them, ESPECIALLY Krista, Reiner, Bertolt, and Ymir. Those 4 are just important to the plot as Eren and have a tone of depth to them, as well as backstories as good as Mikasa's. Krista's backstory made me cry and made Mikasa's childhood look pleasant. And those greedy merchants and idiot priest are actually some of the bravest and most selfless characters in the series (no, I'm not being ironic - read the manga). That fat merchant blocking the gate and the idiot Wall priest become heroes and allies.
Well thought out review, however I disagree on the more/less characters vs more/less action. I believe that even though we didn't get enough time to really understand certain characters before they died that that is exactly what makes attack on titan a good anime for it gives the audience the aerie and serious atmosphere as to realize how fragile and weak human beings are compared to those titans. You have to ask yourself: does it matter that this person died and I didn't get to know him? I wouldn't think too much of it for I believe that it tells me that this is how easy characters die in this show and that even the main characters can die easily. The unexpected events happening in this show is exactly what makes me crave for more. I wouldn't need to know these characters that well, just the fact that those were close to the main characters is fine, knowing that their friendship and death could affect the main characters is enough. After all there is a limited amount of episodes and more isn't always better.
It's nice to see a criticism of my reviews that's actually intelligent and well-thought-out rather than just mindless flaming. Thank you. :) Regardless, I still stand by my claim that this show would have been much more emotionally engaging if we had actually gotten the chance to know each individual character that died (which would have required less characters) rather than just killing twenty characters off before we could even remember their names. It wasn't just the characters in the beginning, the four captains that died toward the end of the show had the same problem (well, for me, at least).
Haha well too many people get angree about other peoples opinions. Just ignore them. Perhaps this show will get a bit more emotionally engaging in season two. Regardless of the manga, the first season left all of us in awe about what titans are and what the relationship is between the characters. Season 1 gave us little information about the story of the titans so maybe it is oke that we still didn't get any emotionally engaging moments for the events in season 1 are quite hectic. Then again for me attack on titan doesn't necessarily have to get too emotional. I do like to be engaged in that way but for this anime i am content with the awesome action scenes :)
I understand your viewpoint on the tension, but while i think this is a great anime it is still inferior to FMA:B. Mainly because people died all the time, so much so that it feels like your being beaten over the head with tragedy every other second. While in FMA most of the action is off balanced with well thought out character moments. If this anime had more of that than it would be much better than it already is...
Dude, you're the first person i heard talking about liking Eren! Again, i fell in love with you ;D He's my fave char from the series :3 (WoW i'm not a Levi fangirl) great commentary too :3
Yesss!! My life is complete. And I totally agree about the leaders. I could barely watch those 3-4 incredibly painful episodes showing just them and leaving me starved for the action I had gotten used to. Great review!
I believe the show tried to mess with your mind with your decision. "I hate the people, but I hate the titans". They attempt to put a mental bend between what you believe is right and wrong. This is not for the story aspect, but more for a social controversy. To try and connect more people through voice. You have to look at it from a marketing point of view. I enjoyed the review, but I would have liked if you had considered a few of these things before making this review. Maybe ask your viewers about their opinions about the show beforehand. I hope you take some of the ideas. Thanks
Piper CHM That was before he was a reckless douche. The one time he tried to control himself and trust his comrades they all died cause he didn't go titan.
Great effort for that computer. I didn't know that till just now with either MAR or Case Closed. I'll probably watch MAR because ShadowACS's shows I've watched haven't let me down yet. And which country do you live in because here its almost winter?
I started reading the manga to this & didn't much care for it, but now that I've seen how freaking cool the anime is I may just check it out. thanks for another great review
That's only because Mikasa is younger and has less experience than Levi. Give her about 4 to 5 more years and she'll be either be as badass as him or maybe even surpass him.
The animation in the show is fantastic but Shadow have you ever watched a series of films called Kara no Kyoukai? The production values are breathtaking and the best I have seen in any anime to date
Thanks for all your reviews. I am really starting to rely on your reviews to help me decide which animes to watch. I want to ask if you could do a review on fairy tail as I would really like to see your opinion on it.
I think the reason the side characters are so not memorable is because they are trying to show that not everyone can be extraordinary. They are normal people who want to protect humanity.
Considering that the final words of King Louis XVI upon been sentenced to death for treason to France were "I am France!", I'm willing to accept the existence of such self-absorbed individuals in positions of inherited power. It's a cliche, yes, but there is a lot of truth in it. While it could have been more subtle, Attack on Titan's mandate has always been to up-play everything, from the action sequences to Eren's anger & Mikasa's single-minded obsession, so it makes sense that it would also overdo the reactions of small-minded people to a preternatural force that has always terrified them, even if it is in the body of a teenager.
It's not a question of whether or not the asshole villains in this show are existable, the problem is that the story basically stops for ten-plus episodes just so they can shoehorn in their ham-fisted "people suck" message that's been an overused cliche since forever.
***** Um, you do realise that is the message of Attack on Titan right? If you don't like the message "humanity is bad" or "humanity will end up killing themselves instead of the titans killing them" or in your own words "people suck" Then I guess Attack on Titan isn't the anima for you.... Spoiler... Even the whole existence of the titans revolves around the concept of "people suck"
SNK is just totally EPIC and AWESOME!!! the action scenes and visuals plus the plot twists are just flawless! the side characters hair styles and colour are all so similar it is extremely hard to remember who they are....i agree with u totally X3
Nice review. I like the 2nd opening more and I HATE stuck-up nobles as much as you do (this was done by Production i.G.). Also, are there any anime you are watching this season?
If the anime keeps following the manga, there will be an entire arc in season 2 that will focus only on the nobles and all the conspiracy inside the walls, casting the titan action aside and focusing on developping the nobles that seems so one dimensionnal in the first season. Sadly, a lot of people will probably hate this arc because the reason they watch Attack on Titan is for Titan action. But this arc will really be useful to develop the background and the side characters of the story and give some hints and answers to the mysteries surrounding the creation of the walls.
I wonder what you'd think of Owari no Seraph. The basic premise is somewhat similar to that of Attack on Titan's ("kill all vampires!"), though I personally think that most aspects of OnS were done better.
I really don't think they were going for an FMA thing with the side characters since most of them they introduce die before the halfway point. Rather just to feed the titans.
You are really good at reviewing. But what you don't like...it is a war movie. Many characters. I felt sad for every single person that died even though I may not have known them.
That's the thing, though. Even in war stories, you have to get a sense of who all the people are and get to know them. That's what makes their deaths carry so much weight. Ever read All Quiet on the Western Front?
***** Quick DTK Fact: The Director Of Attack On Titan directed Death Note and High School Of The Dead . Just a quick fact for you. Thanks for the Commentaries!
Do you have any plans to review Free! Iwatobi Swim Club? Cuz the Free! and Attack on Titan fandoms are very friendly with each other even though they are completely different and you can't seem to talk about one without mentioning the other. Sort of like the relationship between Hetalia and Homestuck.
Hey, Shadow ACS, I’ve liked your videos for a while now, so I think I’m due to make a suggestion for a review. May I suggest Yu Yu Hakusho. I know that the show is old and you usually don’t review shows that are from the 90s. I’m asking you because I know that you are probably one of the best at what you do. You have the luxury of being completely honest about any anime good or bad.
Hmm not sure I'll be able to get Skyrim for the PC as the strongest PC I have is my laptop. Is the PS3 version any good? Anyways I think your right on what the game is called (if its what I think it is). I haven't had to worry about money this year myself I was able to buy most the anime and games I've wanted for the year.
Review Anohana next. I think I requested it on your second Touhou update, but I cannot express the need for you to watch and review that 11 episodes of beautiful feels.
I think that the side characters who die aren't memorable because it's kinda symbolized in the verse in the first opening "No one remembers the names of trampled flowers", the characters who are lucky or strong enough to avoid dying are the ones who are remembered and seen throughout the show, while the ones who aren't as lucky are forgotten. Kinda weird, I know, but that's the thing that just came to my mind.
Armin isn't entirely two dimensional, especially not after the second season. He is a crucial pivot point for both the other protagonists' development and the viewers. Armin is often the means by which us viewers realize just how far the humans have to go to beat the Titans, and consequently, he has to realize just how much he has to develop as a person, because he draws parallels to most viewers. He's not overly courageous, brave, or strong. He's weak but willing to learn.
You've got really valid points about the aristocratic rich people and the fat king, but if you think about it, if we were all plunged into this kind of situation, it'd be a power struggle amongst people; Rich and powerful have first dibs on anything and get the most safety because they can afford it, and the poor are left to pick and choose with what is left. Even now, the world is kinda like that, except, ya know, without the constant fear of "holy shit there's like an 80% chance we can die today" factored in. While I hate how they made them in the show, it really fits for me, and it makes the anime seem like it could be a real possibility of what a society like this could be like. Ah, sorry. I got carried away. XD I'm new to your channel, and I really like your stuff. Gets me thinking.
I think siding with the Titans is an intentional device in my opinion. You can see that the human/monster commentary wants us to do that... but I agree that as of now it is currently a 2 dimensional plot point. Alas I can only say that we can never truly judge a product until its completion. Your review was very real and enjoyable.
I agree, I HATE one-dimensional characters, specifically the ones in the big seats. They always seem to be buttholes. That's one of the reasons why I liked Stargate SG-1 (I know, weird show to bring up) so much. The general isn't a power-hungry person who chews out everyone else. He's written much smarter than that.
I gotta know though, what did you think about episode 5 the first actual fight they had with some unsuspecting deaths that happened did it catch you off guard?
I admit, heard of this anime for ages but never looked at it, thinking it be boring anime as a few these days are, however your review made me go look at it and freakin hell was I wrong! The first episode reeled me in right away for the opening and even after that I kept watching, not many new animes these days keep me watching in the first episode and if they do I usually skip them cause they get boring but this anime I never skipped any parts! It is amazing
That dude wasn't the king actually, he was one of the lords of the land. We never get to know who the king is yet actually. Just pointing that out. This is actually a really fair analysis and very objective to a great extent.
According to Wikipedia Lust's voice actor (Laura Bailey) is in Skyrim Dawnguard so you are correct. She voices a character named Serana. I'm getting all this information off of Wikipedia since I don't own and haven't played Skyrim.
As for being one dimensional, I can't believe that ShadowACS missed out on the fact that his parents left to see the outer world and haven't come back, his grandfather got killed in the massacre to reduce population and his inner conflict mixed with his desire to be useful rather than a burden is what keeps Armin going. Quite shocked with this review
The issue with the side characters (I agree with you on this) is that they aren't really important until the next season. At first it's all just killing off all the unimportant background characters while everyone watches helplessly, but it eventually gets on track and builds everyone s lot better like they already did with the main trio. Actually, I think the show stopped right where manga really gets good.
As a reader of the manga i believe i must explain that the anime needed more time the anime sometimes needs to cut out scenes. Also the complaint of the dark characters is that they have a bit of an important factor towards the story later, this anime is trying to show that titans are not the only monsters. Anyway...its nice to see a rant as usual, will you be making revews on any airing anime?
This is why vampire knight and attack on titian are the same pretty much: zero in vampire knight wants to kill all of the vampires because he's family got killed by vampires now in attack on Titan Eren's mum got killed by a Titan and he wants to kill them all too, but the thing is zero and Eren are both the thing they want to kill wtf? ( soz spam just wanna point that out for no reason :P )
The reason that this show is so powerful is the deeper meaning behind the Titans. Someone pretty clearly put a lot of thought in to the Titans design. It is an extremely profound metaphor for humanity's greatest weakness. Ourselves.
+Fred Lashley The manga is really getting intense right now , it also seems that Titans are biologically made , there are theories that Titans are actually plants.
I will say that for the same reason you don't like the amount of side characters, I DO like it. It's more real in that warfare is like that. No one is safe, unknown people die horrible and sometimes (dare I say) meaningless deaths. For me, I like it because I feel like I get a small taste of an intro to these characters, and it gets my hopes up for future interaction with them, but that's not how war works. It doesn't care. Everyone is taking the same risk. SPOILER example below: Take Marco, for example. He didn't get a whole lot of screen time, I didn't know much about him besides that he was a nice guy. But I WANTED to know more about him; he probably did have a back story......that I will never know now because he died, alone and unknown, for the most part. Which is freaking sad. And I like that kind of stuff. Das jus me, doe 😊.
On that subject, I've found that Attack on Titan is the perfect way to lure in non-anime fans. There's enough action to make it cool, but enough plot to actually make people care about what's going on. I've converted a good chunk of my friends into anime fans with it.
One think i do wish you commented on was just the emotion in it. Like FMA, some of the scenes in this show are so heart-breaking you honestly want to go in a corner and sob for a week. It is felt more in the second half but my god was this anime tough to watch sometimes.....PS, what were your opinions on specific commanders in the second half...in my opinion, they were the most structured and fascinating characters
Hey, shadowacs, do you like yuri? Was wondering if you did just in case you wanted to review Destiny of The Shrine Maiden or Strawberry panic. Though Strawberry Panic spawns 20+ episodes and Destiny of the Shrine Maiden has mecha and yuri in it and is only 12 episodes... Just a thought, although screw public opinion. I suppose you really wouldn't care anyway.
Hey ShadowACS, so I know that your favourite anime is Fullmetal Alchemist Original and Brotherhood tied but what would you say is the best anime on a critical level you've ever seen? Ex. my favourite movie (I know, but it counts) is The Fellowship of the Ring but the Best movie I've seen so far is Lawrence of Arabia.
It's "lack of side character development & memorability" is on purpose. It makes it more realistic. In real life, you're not going to get side story, and your feelings of the "siding with the titans" is supposed to show that humanity is a duality. It's perfectly justified and I, like a lot of people are supposed to, feel very similarly on certain points.
You keep comparing the side character development in this to that of Fullmetal Alchemist, saying it's not nearly as in-depth, but you have to keep in mind, we've only got 1 season of Attack on Titan thus far. Comparing that to Fullmetal, the side characters in it weren't nearly as developed by the first 25 episodes as they were by the series end. I think if comparisons to other animes are to be used, then the other animes should be confined to the first 25 episodes, or first season for comparison purposes. Give Attack on Titan more time. The side characters that really matter will most likely get much more developed in time.
The king and the other rich aristocrats actually are not a social commentary or anything... You are totally mistaken, later in the story u'll find out there's a hell lot to this social hierarchy. There's a mind blowing revelation behind all of this. If you haven't read the manga, you can't guess in a million years, what's coming. Let me tell you 2nd season is gonna be 1000 times more epic and mind blowing than the first one.
Dont worry Shadow, in the manga the side characters become a HUGE deal and become very deep and developed. So hopefully we see some of that in the second season. :)
I've realized that in your past reviews, you've said that your favorite characters of a show (if they're in there) are usually characters that seem emotionless at first because of their backstory like Saeko from HOTD or Mikasa.
I do actually agree with your comment "wanting to side with the Titans because of the rich douchebags", but that actually shows how strong the soldiers are, or at least the Survey Corps. It's kind of hard to explain and probably therefore a bad argument, but it takes some real rough courage and willpower to fight and die for those who don't love you, but only because they are humans, just like you are. Or they are at least presented as another weight of burden that's put on the soldiers' backs: saving the innocent requires saving the douchebags. This may as well still go hand in hand with your opinion that they should stay somewhat more in the background. And as you said, it shows humanity has two true enemies: the Titans and the rich douchebags. And also, some of the seemingly "evil" characters, aren't even that evil. Nile Dok, the leader of the Military Police, is part of the prosecuting councel, not simply because he wants to have Eren dead because hurr durr he is a Titan or even because he's a potential threat, but because he had taken the pros and cons, the risks versus rewards and came to the conclusion it wasn't a good idea, which isn't even that crazy. Only the Survey Corps and a handful of others are the ones that realise humanity NEEDS to take risks or eventually walk into an inevitable extinction. (which is also one of the main lessons of the anime). Then there are also the Wallists, which in fact, are a bunch of madmen. These are the true ignorant assholes who only work against everything the army is trying to do, simply because of lazyness, superstition and unawareness. They are the ones that, indeed, make you doubt humanity's right of survival and aware you the mountain-high goodness of the (brave) soldiers. I'd love to discuss this further, if anyone is up to that. I'd like to hear some other voices or deeper opinions.
I agree with the side character comment. I only remember the crazy Titan-obsessed girl, Jean, and the military captains. I agree that it's addicting too lol I watched the whole thing in one, 12+ hour sitting xD
season 2 is gonna turn out great. trust me the rest of the manga is filled with mor interesting twists, mystires, minor characters having developments and backstories, an epic moment from sasha, and a new power eren has discovered in chapter 50 that could help defeat nthe titan if he can just figure out how he did it.
the production companies for this show were studio WIT and production I.G. , i think production I.G. are the ones responsible for the awesome action scenes since they've been doing this for quite sometime x) go look it up on wikipedia they produced shows like ghost in the shell and its movies , the animation for guilty crown , kuroko no basket ...
I just found out that Japan is making an Attack On Titan Video Game! No Joke! An in case anyone is wondering, the game will be available for PS3, PS4, and PSVita.
Let me explain, we are talking about human beings who have never seen a Titan, barely heard of one, and who do not have any meaningful interactions with them. For all they care about, they are little more than the Boogeyman. As you said it yourself, most of humanity was perfectly content to live their lives within the wall and ignore the fact the Titans existed before they attacked. They want to continue to ignore them, they are trying to bunker in that third wall and ignore the rest of...
the thing that was annoying me the most with attack on titan was the ending. DON'T LEAVE THE ENDING WITH A CLIFFHANGER!!! Sure we will get a season 2. But it comes out 4 YEARS after the first season...
I simply couldn't sit through the first episode. It felt like I was watching the same thing over again. I must admit though, it follows pretty damn well to the manga. Does it have some unique stuff about the anime that isn't in the manga? (Not anything major, I would expect, but something so it's not like doing the exact same thing.)
i agree he is yelling, and i have no right no enter this conversation since i haven´t seen shuffle, but i keep getting surprised everytime it stands on it´s place. I hope you one day make a review of it, so that i may finally understand
sorry, i'm just saying that shows that receive poor reception are considered a guilty pleasure if some people liked it. mind you, while i do enjoy the show, i have the same problems with the characters but i have a different problem that i expected it to be like a war story mixed with the horror elements instead of adding shounen into it. btw, are you also gonna review guilty crown and fairy tail since it's reached its final episode about months ago.
I'm sorry i get u feel tht way shadow but the characters are very important just not in the anime. I mean if you read the manga these characters play a IMPORTANT PART like u have no idea esspecially reigner beherholdt and Ymir trust me this anime has the characters covered :) just they only showed it in the manga they play a great part against the evil truth of humanity and the manga explains that titans aren't the real evil you have to read the manga
Just started watching AOT so can't give much of an opinion about either the show or the review. Except for one point, which reminds me that though reviews are helpful in giving a heads up about what you'll see, they are still very much subjective, and that was the opening song. What exactly was supposed to be great about it? It wasn't bad, but I definitely believe I've heard better. Still, underwhelming opening aside, the review and the few episodes I've seen have gotten me interested enough to keep watching.
I agree with most of what you said, especially about the shitty "rich hoomanz r bad" plot line. However, I found myself getting pretty attached to the characters, and I was genuinely upset most of the time people died. Especially after the intense episodes in the forest. I was very upset over the casualties there. I really enjoyed the show, and it really got me interested in Anime again since I basically given up on the medium a few years ago.
For me, it just made it more obnoxiously cliched. But to each their own.
I agree with shadow. By putting in such grotesque stereotypes as actual elements of the story they kinda taint the realism and investment the raist of the anime earned.

Edward Elric is an idealist.

Given that half the points you made against my review were of stuff that I never even mentioned (ie me saying the show "shouldn't have been dark" when in reality I actually praised that aspect of it at one point), I suggest you take your own advice and just accept that I have a different opinion.
It's fascinating to see someone's opinion on aot before knowing anything past s1 and lacking the big picture
If you read the Manga, you get more attached to the characters.
Yes :)
Manga FTW as usual :)
Yup after the first arc barely anybody dies. None of the opening cast at least. Thats from having read up to issue 64 of the manga.
I need no channel youtube! Aaaaand its back again , back again for chapter 77 onwards XD
+Midnight_Phantom good. I didnt contineu because the story seemed to have peetered out.
I need no channel youtube! Lately the chapters 72-80 have been amazing so far , but it just makes the monthly issue so much more painful
In my opinion captain Levi is the most badass. Did you see that rescue mission when he went up against the female titan?
it was GLORIOUS
Thank you. :)
Regardless, I still stand by my claim that this show would have been much more emotionally engaging if we had actually gotten the chance to know each individual character that died (which would have required less characters) rather than just killing twenty characters off before we could even remember their names.
Legit nearly screamed when I saw this on my homepage. I've been waiting so long for this
Dude, you're the first person i heard talking about liking Eren! Again, i fell in love with you ;D He's my fave char from the series :3 (WoW i'm not a Levi fangirl) great commentary too :3
About the rich people and the corrupted military police, wait to see season 2 or read the manga.
ah, back when this show was still running.. those times were good
Damn this everyone's perspective of Attack on titan before S4 lmao
Great review as always I like how you point out good and bad points especially since some other reviews of it just go for the good.
Thanks
btw i don't remember u mentioning it but the music, i mean the whole ost is mindblowing. Pure awesomeness. Not only the opening :P
5:37 And it got really crazy when the third guy showed up! :D
Are you ever going to do a review of "This Ugly Yet Beautiful World"? You've mentioned that you like it before.
It didn't need either less action or less characters; it needed more time. It's incomplete as it is now.
Awesome review as always and can't wait till the next one
Meh, I didn't like Eren. He was essentially rewarded for being a reckless douche for the whole show.
So rewarded you mean by watching his friends and mother die in front of him?..
Piper CHM That was before he was a reckless douche. The one time he tried to control himself and trust his comrades they all died cause he didn't go titan.
The Shadow Ampharos I know...thats what I meant, he does't sound like his getting rewarded to me...
Piper CHM Yeah. he's being punished for not being a reckless douche.
Does anyone really get 'rewarded' in this show?
Great effort for that computer. I didn't know that till just now with either MAR or Case Closed. I'll probably watch MAR because ShadowACS's shows I've watched haven't let me down yet. And which country do you live in because here its almost winter?
I started reading the manga to this & didn't much care for it, but now that I've seen how freaking cool the anime is I may just check it out. thanks for another great review
Hey ShadowACS, congrats on 14,000 subscribers.
Levi is way more badass than Mikasa
Agreed. I found Mikasa kind of boring, to be honest.
That's only because Mikasa is younger and has less experience than Levi. Give her about 4 to 5 more years and she'll be either be as badass as him or maybe even surpass him.
Can you do Berserk and DevilMan?
I loved if you did this. :D
Dude i love your videos. I never subbed before but now i have :D Keep it coming dude!
Piper CHM 10:49
Try actually watching the whole video before commenting.
***** But you just said you didn't likr the concept of "people suck" idea? You either like it or you don't like it
Piper CHM
That's not what I said.
My favorite thing in this anime was the music, every time a action scene came on they had some of the most epic music I've ever heard playing
Thank you for this it is good to hear the points of the show without "it has no flaws"
Ever read All Quiet on the Western Front?
yes and I hear what you are saying. good stuff.
***** Quick DTK Fact: The Director Of Attack On Titan directed Death Note and High School Of The Dead . Just a quick fact for you. Thanks for the Commentaries!
james vanitas Wow! Loved those two animes. thanks for the FYI.
james vanitas but also he made guilty crown what he didn't like
Do you have any plans to review Free!
I haven't had to worry about money this year myself I was able to buy most the anime and games I've wanted for the year.
hey shadow I have too question
1.who would win in a giant monster fight titan eren, king kong or Godzilla?
2. Who is more bad ass mikasa or saeko?
Review Anohana next. I think I requested it on your second Touhou update, but I cannot express the need for you to watch and review that 11 episodes of beautiful feels.
I agree man. What s the random stuff you have planned?
My complaint wasn't that it didn't make sense, it's that it doesn't make for a good story.
In any case, thanks for being a fan. :)
Oh, I definitely agree on that part. Lol But thanks for making good videos! :D
I think siding with the Titans is an intentional device in my opinion. You can see that the human/monster commentary wants us to do that... but I agree that as of now it is currently a 2 dimensional plot point. Alas I can only say that we can never truly judge a product until its completion. Your review was very real and enjoyable.
Also, THIS DESERVES MORE VIEWS GODDAMNIT!!!!!
FUNNY you said you wanted to Punch this anime! Because I Literally Broke my 60" Aquios TV during ep 21!!! lol, ty warranty!
I hate to ask but could you do a review of clannad? Or either of the fma's?
I agree, I HATE one-dimensional characters, specifically the ones in the big seats. They always seem to be buttholes. That's one of the reasons why I liked Stargate SG-1 (I know, weird show to bring up) so much. The general isn't a power-hungry person who chews out everyone else. He's written much smarter than that.
The animation was done by Production I.G. and Wit Studio which is a new animation company formed by producers from Production I.G.
I gotta know though, what did you think about episode 5 the first actual fight they had with some unsuspecting deaths that happened did it catch you off guard?
fair and awesome review as always
I think the next season will fix the problems. The manga is amazing work and is great with story development and characters.
According to Wikipedia Lust's voice actor (Laura Bailey) is in Skyrim Dawnguard so you are correct. She voices a character named Serana. I'm getting all this information off of Wikipedia since I don't own and haven't played Skyrim.
Hey shadow looking forward to the DVD/Blue-Ray realise even it its not a favorite for you?
SPOILER example below:
Take Marco, for example.
Hey, ShadowACS. I noticed you put Fate/Zero on your favorites list. Are you planning on making an Anime Analysis about it?
The king and the other rich aristocrats actually are not a social commentary or anything... You are totally mistaken, later in the story u'll find out there's a hell lot to this social hierarchy. There's a mind blowing revelation behind all of this. If you haven't read the manga, you can't guess in a million years, what's coming. Let me tell you 2nd season is gonna be 1000 times more epic and mind blowing than the first one.
+ayush kumar Lets hope it follows the manga bruh
LOL! Your videos are really funny! ^_^ When is the next one coming?
Hopefully sometime this weekend.
I do see your points in this review. I completely agree with you.
season 2 is gonna turn out great. trust me the rest of the manga is filled with mor interesting twists, mystires, minor characters having developments and backstories, an epic moment from sasha, and a new power eren has discovered in chapter 50 that could help defeat nthe titan if he can just figure out how he did it.
the production companies for this show were studio WIT and production I.G. , i think production I.G. are the ones responsible for the awesome action scenes since they've been doing this for quite sometime x) go look it up on wikipedia they produced shows like ghost in the shell and its movies , the animation for guilty crown , kuroko no basket ...
So next is a supernatural anime, huh? I cannot wait!
the thing that was annoying me the most with attack on titan was the ending. DON'T LEAVE THE ENDING WITH A CLIFFHANGER!!! Sure we will get a season 2. But it comes out 4 YEARS after the first season...
I TOTALLY Agree! Unlike SOME Anime that doesn't get another season *cough* High School of the Dead *cough*
They take out some of the details and they put in a little scene here and there for impact, but it's almost exactly the same x
Well, it wasn't bad...I guess I can bear it in hopes of being able to make an AMV outa it.
i agree he is yelling, and i have no right no enter this conversation since i haven´t seen shuffle, but i keep getting surprised everytime it stands on it´s place.
I have to argue against this. They developed characters like Petra and the Levi squad pretty good. Their deaths were memorable.
How was the "anime"? How long till your other show comes out?
The fact that you implied Mikasa was more badass than Levi was just what
I agree with most of what you said, especially about the shitty "rich hoomanz r bad" plot line.
PETRA!!! :d
