Did you contemplate some scissor hinges for the tent frame? Like they used in old holdens. It would have pulled the frame away from the headboard as it lifted.
I still think a full inner tub slide out would have been a better setup. That way you could have used the X tent and able to get to your gear in the tub while the RTT is already in use. Good luck trying to get your gear at the front of the tub if someone is still sleeping in the RTT.

Damn!!! I was rooting for the X Tent…. Why couldn’t you make the base platform an “X Platform”… would that have not solved the issue with the headboard???? Would it not have allowed you to raise the platform with the tent opened, with an X motion.???😮
Im with ya mitch...should have gone x tent... Could have modified the headboard a little, and simply slid the tent back a couple of inches to give the ute a draglip style like the np300. Would have looked sick! This is BUILT, not bought after all!
Adelaide is the shittest place I've driven in apart from Perth! I don't know how you got 8 minutes, every time I drove somewhere, it said like 5 km away and it was a 40 minute drive, possibly the shittest designed city to drive in.
Atlhough traffic has increased over the past 10 years I recall work trips to Perth, Brisbane & Adelaide and watching peak hour from the 15th ish floor of an office Cars were banked up at 5pm and within 20 minutes the roads were clear. Brisbane traffic....get out of here son. ;)

Use the Xtent because that head board needs throwing out, it’s ugly as.
Please don't not do the X tent!! Simply mount it on draw slides - on your frame, so you can slide it back 300 or so mm on set up.
