Beginners step aside! - Harley Benton HB35 Plus Review

- I just got my Harley benton H35 Plus semi hollow bodied guitar and I’m loving it. These guitars come at a price which has many guitarists (me included till now) thinking they must be junk. After watching scores of RUclips reviews ion these however I was persuaded to buy one rather than spending double or more on the competition. Its my first semi hollow and I’m more than happy with it.
Hope you find this of value. Feel free to like, comment and subscribe if so.
Cheers!
Dave

I bought that same guitar about a month ago. I've owned quite a few guitars in my life, and I must say the Harley Benton is a quality guitar. NO COMPLAINTS.
Like you I've owned a fair number of guitars over the years and am impressed with this one. About to buy one of their J- basses too. Bests, Dave
Thanks for this excellent video review! I got the same Vintage Burst model a couple of weeks ago and I have the same reaction/impressions that you have. I got it for $229 plus $90 shipping from Germany - amazingly it arrived in 24 hours to my house in Brooklyn, NY! It's quickly becoming one of my favorites in my collection. I might, as you suggested, upgrade the tuners or the pickups, but it's not necessary, as far as I can tell. Maybe after a year of playing it, I'll think differently - maybe! I don't use coil-splitting much, but it's nice to have the option, too…For now this is a very nicely built, fun to play, versatile guitar that sounds as good as it looks, at a price that's hard to believe!
Hi there - good to hear from you. I’ve had mine for a year now and play it daily. I haven’t done a thing to it since adjusting the action to suit. It lives in my living room, replacing the acoustic that now lives upstairs in the studio. I write and record with it all the time and I often have to prise it out of my life and music partners hands 😂Great guitar at any price. Enjoy 👍🏻
I have just purchased the same model but in Metallic Plum, which looks far better in reality than on Thomann's site. The first delivery , the guitar was damaged - the neck joint was open ! Thomann arranged a replacement and collection of the faulty guitar. When the replacement arrived. I was not optimistic but I was wrong. A beautiful looking guitar, frets were near perfect, finish was excellent. And the sound and playability are worthy of a 9/10 ranking at least. Full marks to Thomann for the product and the excellent service from their Customer Care team.
Glad to hear it Michael - I'm still loving mine and have just added a Harley Benton jazz bass to my collection (also excellent) It seems that Thomann's Quality control/customer service levels are pretty good these days.
I recently acquired this guitar and I have to say it’s leaps and bounds better than I ever imagined.
While waiting for delivery I already planned on what I was going to swap out. But honestly I don’t want to change a thing!! Even the strings it was shipped with didn’t need changing. I know I should get a set up, but I like how it is now
It’s a long story but this guitar cost me NOTHING.
Same here - haven’t changed a thing so far. I hadn’t recorded with it for a while but picked it up today to put some tracks down and it was pretty much in tune. Inspired me as it always done. Let’s hear the story?….
Had mine for 7 years. it's my go to guitar, I have Gretsch fender and rick's, only changed tuners for Wilkinson's.
Cool. Yes I reach for mine a lot as the perfect “in between” sound when my Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul (which has just been required) aren’t quite right. I think the HB is as good as those two big name guitars. Haven’t felt the need to change anything. It actually stays in tune better than the LP but that’s Gibsons for you 😂
@@thecreativeguitarlounge Too Right.
Turned up on FB(!) at £189 as ex-demo or return. A small ding on the headstock and scratch on the scratch plate were only blemishes. Guitar tech smoothed frets and restrung, and now a slinky fretboard. My only problem with it is I find the body a bit heavy and even sitting down I need a broad strap to stop the body sinking towards the floor. Did I mention it’s black with gold furniture, so looks a bit like the B. B. King guitar.
NB I don’t play like him, alas.
No one plays like BB did. I'm used to a Les Paul and have the trapped nerves and bad back to show for it! I find this guitar pretty light in comparison. My current problem is that my partner has also fallen for it - at least at these prices I can buy her one too 🤣 Cheers ✌
I have the same model. It's simply stunning to look at with no setup out of the box. When I play it I forget just how little I paid for it. It's as good as anything costing £600 or more. You won't be disappointed if you get one.
I’ve had mine for about 4 months and have played it constantly with no problems and a lot of fun
I really like your laid-back style.
@@Alroofador Many thanks
Hey, i have own a lot of guitar and still Do, quallety stuff!! I got One of These, lemon burst. What a Nice guitar for the buck!!!! I love it a lot and maby a little bit more👍
Cool 😀 The lemon burst is a nice finish. Great guitars 👍🏻
This has to be one of the best bargain guitars Ever , excellent review 🎸
I agree and thanks for your comment 👍🏻
Just got their take on a vintage Tele . It's my current favorite .
Cool I fancy one of those too, heard they are ace 👍🏻
HB 35 is based on Gibson E35. The guitar Puddles plays is a full hollow body guitar.
Yes indeed
i watched the same reviews and bought the same and loved it
Cool - still loving mine too
Got one a few weeks ago (red which looks way better in person than the pics on the website). Had to level the 10th and 18th frets and plays great now. Installed some HB locking tuners without any issues (a whopping $33).
Cool - I was tempted by the blue finish but went with the sunburst in the end. My Strat and Les Paul are feeling neglected! lol
My favourite review of hb35plus. I'm considering it, but either people are overselling it or shitting on it, I've been missing a sober review. The only thing I would wish in this video, is some close ups of the guitar, so I can see the detailing for myself. Hope you will do more Harley Benton reviews. Cheers
Thanks Chandan. I might well do as you suggest so keep an eye on the channel. I looked at many videos and read lots of reviews myself before buying first the HB35 plus and then a Harley Benton Jazz bass. It does seem like quality control from Thomann has improved greatly in recent years - or maybe I've just been lucky (twice) To be honest even if either guitar had arrived with the minor niggles some people complain about, at this price I wouldn't be too pissed off.
Please show us how to lower the action.
@@Alroofador Heading off for a few days holiday but I’ll do a video on my return. Basically you need to lower the bridge saddles and possibly adjust the truss Rod. Plenty of RUclips videos on those steps out there
Hi Dave
Good wee review there, I was considering the Harley B hybrid steel for a purchase. I have a Godin Hybrid and will sell as its for house only.
Good to know these are a decent buy 😉
Have a good weekend
Niall
Well chuffed with it Niall - black Friday sale on and I notice this has gone down to 148 for the day - unbelievable! cheers
Great playing !
Thank you 😀
Hi, I don't understand how you managed to buy your guitar for £169 delivered. Their list price is £219 delivered. Did you make them an offer and they accepted?
That was the price (£169) when I bought the guitar just before Xmas 2022. I think I mention in the video that I noticed it had subsequently increased to £219. It seems that Thomann prices vary at times.
Thanks for the review, enjoyed that! I've had mine for just over a year and used it more than expected! It lends itself to lots of styles and tones
Here is a 'playlist' of various licks n riffs on an HB35+ b stock bought in 2022. As b stock I asked hb to ensure it was QA again and set intonation..they did a good job..minor adjustment on bass E saddle is all I have done to it..enjoy!
