    Tyner's rhapsodic embellishments on his/Coltrane's "Wise One" will forever cement him as one of the truly greatest ever. Scofield simply takes us to the bleeding edge every damn time he straps on. A thrill to watch him conjure those next few flurries :) (Come to Louisville John!!) Jack and Ron need no intros(nor last names). Giants here!!

    I've listened to this Mr PC a lot.his vocabulary and phrases are amazing.and I found that some phrases come from his album"this meats that" so I think this Mr PC was recorded at 2007.If you know it,please let me know.

    Mr. Tyner’s final studio album- and a gold standard band for sure. Everyone involved is always great, of course, but DeJohnette and the guest guitarists were really “on” throughout. Rest well, McCoy! You gave us so much...

  • @babalaughing
    @babalaughing 4 года назад +9

    Didn't know that Scofield had ever played with McCoy. Scofield's style at that time (pre-Miles) was perfectly suited to the innovations that McCoy had brought us. Thanks for posting this. There are a miniscule number of guitarists who could ever be credible next to McCoy Tyner, yet Scofield pulls it off without seeming to break a sweat. RIP McCoy Tyner, one of the towering giants. He is almost as seminal as Coltrane. He changed the way jazz piano is played. As for Scofield, I would love to see him return to this kind of play.

    • @xebio6
      @xebio6 4 года назад +9

      I may have misunderstood you, but this clip is definitely not pre-Miles.

    • @babalaughing
      @babalaughing 4 года назад

      I'm wrong like that sometimes. It seemed to me that after Miles, he retreated into some sort of malaise in which his patented mannerisms were emphasized over musical content. I mistook this clip for his pre-miles playing, I think partly because he is reverting to that style, and apparently has been for some time while I haven't been paying attention. Still love the clip, will look into his playing again.

    • @c330user
      @c330user 3 года назад +4

      @@babalaughing Man, patented mannerisms? Really? I don't know, but I always considered the stuff that Scofield did with Medeski, Martin & Wood absolutely refreshing and original. This here is much more in the mainstream of jazz, but his more funk influenced stuff doesn't seem to have any lack of musical content.

    Cuatro grandes y legendarias figuras del jazz. Cada uno ha integrado grupos con gigantes como Miles Davis (Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield y Ron Carter): el Cuarteto de John Coltrane (Mc Coy Tyner) que han influenciado en cientos de músicos.

    Not bad for a song with 3 chords ...lol jk
    Scofield still has it
    Nice to hear that sharpness and articulation , awesome

    • @5h5hz
      @5h5hz 3 года назад

      @Ayustria Salma it's a blues so yeah it is essentially just 3 chords

    • @5h5hz
      @5h5hz 3 года назад

      @Ayustria Salma yeah it's in C minor so it has Cm7, Fm7 and G7. There are some extra chords like Bb and D7 used as accents but at its heart it's a blues.

    • @5h5hz
      @5h5hz 3 года назад

      @Ayustria Salma many of the compositions from masters like Coltrane, Bird, Monk and many others involved taking the classic 12 bar blues progression and making substitutions to put their own twist on it. It's still a blues because it sounds like a blues and you can play blues vocabulary over it, but technically yeah it's got a bit of a jazz twist.
