I really enjoyed the early episodes of KR71, not only because it was fun to see the series try to find its footing, but also to see how they worked around the budget. I love the experimental energy of the weird editing/choreography and creative methods of depicting death. It’s def not my favorite series, but there are enough memorable moments to make it worthwhile. Lonely Kamen Rider is a pretty good ending theme in my books, it does kinda blend in with other 70’s KR ballads but I do find it suitably evocative. It prob would’ve hit harder if it was used towards the start of the show when Hongo had less allies, but it’s still nice regardless.
I have been waiting years for this review. After first finding your channel, I searched for your review of the original Kamen Rider and was surprised not to find it.
I was originally going to review it years ago and then Shout! announced they had the license for it so I figured I would wait for a physical BD release. That never happened so I finally gave up.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I see... And iirc, the sentai seasons you still haven't finished were....Donbrothers and King-Ohger? (Okay maybe Akibaranger as well if we're including unofficial seasons but I digress)
It's honestly crazy to think that you have now reviewed the OG 5 Toku shows - Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gorenger, Gavan and Garo. Can't wait for your reviews of Kamen Rider V3, the Kamen Rider 90s Trilogy and Ultraman Blazar.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworkhey kaiju no kami I have a question for you what do you think of the shows kamen rider amazon and it's 2016 sequel kamen rider amazons and how much grown ups and spandex would you give them
@Michelleabela5487 I have never watched Amazon, but I thought Amazons as horrid. Well, I liked the first season and had it ended there, I would have said it was fantastic. However, they gave it a dreadful third season and a boring as hell movie, so as a whole, I found it to be me medicore.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached this point of the review saga. The one who started it all, The man, The legend, The O.G Hiroshi Fujioka's starting point in Tokusatsu so as Ichimonji's actor (which goddamn it, i always forget his name)
Happy to see you finally review the original series. I know you were waiting for that eventual blu-ray, I think, to come out but Shout sure is taking its sweet time on that one.
A fantastic review of a tokusatsu classic. I hope you do Kamen Rider V3 soon. By the way, the song, 'Rider Action', when he singer sings 'Rider Screw' it sounds like he's saying Rider Skew You.
No wonder why i've been struggling with this show but i'm definitely grateful that it lead to kickstarting a good franchise plus i do think this is why the heisei era has experimented with different premises for each show.
While the introduction of a secondary Rider came about as a necessity cuz of the accident early into production, it definitely set a precedent that would be utilized off and on the years to follow, and then became a bit overblown once we reached the Heisei era, where its like an Oprah moment: You get to be a Kamen Rider, you get to be a Kamen Rider, everybody gets to be a Kamen Rider!!
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork granted the way it's handled in some shows actually benefits characters as well as narrative progression, so I have no issue. In other cases, it can be hit or miss.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork agreed. Ruri is never mentioned again and they never think to ask the actress to come back when Hongo does, we just get this weird rotating array of female sidekicks. Out of all of them Mari was the one I remember most and am most fond of. I think because she had more personality than the other girls that I don't even remember their names.
I watched the whole thing, and loved it. Even with the flaws, it has a charm to it. They didn’t really plan on people years later having access to the entire show online.
It’s hard to pin one down. Episode 1-13 is moody and dark and I really like that. The shocker rider episodes are fun imo and while they could have done more, it is a fun concept to have a fake rider try and defame the normal kamen rider. Personally, I’m going to go with the one with anemone jaguar, and it was directed by ishiromori himself and it looks really neat. The best way I can describe it is if his kamen rider manga was translated to film.
Aye, now you have all of the first entries completed, now it’s time for all the rider shows you missed, v3, x, Amazon, ZX, shin,ZO, J, Den-O, Decade, W-Gaim, build, zi-o, Saber, revice and Gotchard.
Just have some free time to watch this series after i first watch it as a daily show in my childhood. I didn't catch how different the stage of the show was. Like how the monster dies going from cheap effect like a model melting to a stock footage of the same explosion for a while to end up with really big fireball live on location explosion in later episodes. And it influence every part of the show from camera movement, monster suit to even random prop like shocker's science lab set keep getting better in quality. It's almost feel like 3 separate show smash in to 1 big show. I started watching it expecting to skip some episode but end up watching all of it.
It kind of does feel like multiple shows in one. It was interesting to see how they would experiment to figure out what works and what doesn't work. That is how all first seasons should be.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork holy crap i never thought that you would still reply to me after this long after the video has been up. Love your work so much. You made me come back to watch many shows because of your reviews. Keep up the good work👍 Also, i really enjoy these old toku, where the effect never that 100% good, i kinda like to see how they do it. Like how suits actor see out of their costumes or how some shot were done. The newer, more polished CGI are a bit to clean and bland for me. That's my perspective on the effects.
@@auttkanjanapatee6590 Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, I love seeing how they pulled off old effects and wish sometimes they would go back to basics instead of always relying on a computer for them.

I watched the original Kamen Rider last. I can say it is big 1970s toutsatsu series classic and a big competitor for the Ultra series and Super Sentai few years later. And note. What is interesting it came out April 3rd, 1971. A day after the premiere of “The Return of Ultrama/ aka Ultraman Jack. Which set up big and somewhat serious competition between both shows. Kamen Rider was created by Saburo Yasude and Shotaro Ishinomori aka “King of Manga who worked on Cyborg 009 and other acclaimed toutsatsu series Super Sentai. What both wanted was to make Rider different and stand out from Ultraman, Godzilla and Gamera, a toutsatsu hero who is regular human size fighting monster villains same size who are not a 150 foot/50 meter kaiju fighting in any Japanese cities. What makes Kamen Rider unique from Ultraman series is that the show and story is very grounded, which there is no outer space threat till “Black RX”. It has Kamen Rider fighting a criminal organization, crime syndicate, gangs, a terrorist organization, or remnant organizations from world war 2 like main villain group Shocker. The show was credited of starting the “2nd kaiju boom” or Henshin boom on Japanese by television around that time in 1971, impacting both superhero and action-adventure genres in Japan. While the interest and popularity of the Japanese giant monsters was still there its popularity and interest started to slowly wane between 1969-1970. The cast of characters are good and well established with interesting roles. (Save of the few supporting characters) Takeshi Hango/ Raider 1 is a good character who has strong sense of heroism and justice on what Shocker did to him. With racing motorcycle, master combat/weaponry and detective skills making him an excellent raider. Hayato Ichimonji/ Raider 2 is well establish he has more appearances in the show. His freelance photography makes him a good investigator on Shocker’s activities for him to stop. On why there are 2 Raiders? Story reason is that Takeshi/Raider 1 rescued and saved Hayato/Raider 2, who was to recapture Raider 1. The real reason was due Takeshi’s actor Hiroshi Fujioka got injured as he fractured his leg on a motorcycle stunt that went wrong during the early episodes between episodes 10-14. Resulting him to leave the show for awhile until he can recover, while forcing the writers and production team to find someone else to fill in till he recovers and ready to return. The main antagonist group Shocker is an interesting villain organization. The organization are remnants from the Axis from WW2 similar to Marvel Comics villains organization Hydra. They are the first villain group that appeared on all episodes making them the first true established villains in a toutsatsu series. What is also noted that Shocker are considered the main antagonists throughout the Showa era Riders series up until 1979 entry Skyrider and 1980 entry Super 1. The costume and effects are great especially during the early 1970s. The costume designs on both Riders are good with a nice grasshopper motif design. Rider 1’s costume for example has a simple design, but only noticeable is that mostly in early episodes the actor’s hair and skin of the neck are seen from time to time. Rider 2’s design is more improved, has the actor completely suited with no hair sticking out. Shocker’s monster costume designs are good, but few of them look unrealistic and bit too generic design. The story is basic with mostly open and shut cases and several arcs that sometimes expand to three to five episodes. The tone of show has a nice dark, gritty and serious tone that made it stand out and kept throughout the show’s run. The dark and serious tone is a staple for the whole franchise as all entries have that tone saved for a few that had a lighthearted tone. This was made for older audiences who felt the recent Ultraman entry “The Return of Ultraman” was a bit too lighthearted. The episodes are done very well with some good plots and pacing, although there are some episodes that have problems with pacing though the story and action make up for it. With 98 episodes it is longest running Kamen Rider show and any toutsatsu show( along with Goranger’s 84 episodes and Ultraman Cosmos 65 episodes). The show did give the Ultra series a serious competition including two acclaimed anime shows, boxing/drama Tomorrow’s Joe and Super robot meta series Mazinger Z. Overall the show was a huge success in Japan, not only did it start the 2nd kaiju boom it was breath of fresh air and refreshed new ideas and concepts for future toutsatsu shows. Reception of the show is critical acclaimed praises for the concept, story, characters, costume designs, effects and dark and serious and music soundtrack. Kamen Rider is considered by many both in Japan and the West to be one of best entries made and one of the best toutsatsu tv show ever made and best toutsatsu from the 1970s. It is in top 3 best 1970s toutsatsu shows along with Goranger and on/off trade between The Return of Ultraman and Ultraman Ace. In dedicated toutsatsu and anime sites like Crunchyroll for example Kamen Rider 1971 is considered the best Showa era Rider series is rated mostly number 1, while other sites have it at number 2 behind Kamen Rider Black. In all Kamen Rider is true 1970s classic. Mr. no Kami, I have a few questions to ask. Please excuse it some have been mentioned and answered before and apologies for the long text above. 1. On the upcoming new Kamen Rider 2025 entry. Will it be returning a dark and serious tone? Like a majority of the previous entries save on the few lighthearted entries? 2. Are you going to do a review on Shin Kamen Rider? 3. (Transformers question. Was meant to ask on your Transformers One review but had hands full at the time) Will you ever do a review on some Transformers tv shows like G1, Beast Wars, Machines and Unicron trilogy for example? 4. (Lupin the third question) With your review of Lupin the Third: part 2 review just around the corner. Are you going to make any mentions of show’s English dub? Done by Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar for example?
1. Gavv has balanced a dark story with its silly gimmick so far. 2. As in the recent movie? If so, at some point I will, but it won't be anytime soon. 3. No idea. It just depends how I feel or if I need a break from Toku. 4. I will eventually review it, it's just taking me forever to watch it. We're only 12 episodes in, and that was back at the beginning of the year we watched them. No idea if I will talk about the dub though. I leave that up to when I am writing the script and if I feel compelled to mention it.
All i can say in regards to this one is that. First, i am truly grateful for kickstarting of an incredible franchise that had me passionate for years as if it was not for 1971 there is no Kamen Rider nor other tokusatsu ventures. Second, this again was a first series so beta testing is fine albeit it does get utterly boring at times as its just the same repeated formula over and over. I like this show to an extent, It was fun but there was not enough substance with made it difficult to digest. Its not bad, its not great, i'm not harsh on it given its the original series and again beta testing, The problem is everything is too samey. I love some of the characters like Hayato, Tachibana, Taki and some of the ladies while Hongou is not is at his best here, i still appreciate him. (He was amazing in that Ghost Ichigou movie and in some crossover films so there is that). Villains are what you expect from 70s but it is what it is.
I was actually fearing the day you'd get to the original Kamen Rider, considering the 98 episodes. But in defense of the first 13, they were working with a really small budget. Smaller than Return of Ultraman's and even local dramas.
I remember watching all 98 episodes within a month, good times. I do hope more people check out the original series despite the age and length. I thought taki wife was just another FBI agent who just played the role of his wife. I heard the fujioka was auditioning for a play or something around the time for those later episodes. And because he wasn't available some things change like doctor desrh kaijin form was suppose to be the sawshark kaijin from the episode before his debut as ikadevil. I wish geldam and anti shocker alliance appeared earlier in story and played some role.
@@therussianwanderer4851 No one specific since there have been a multitude of them. However, I like the soundtracks to Blade, Black, Agito, Ryuki, and Hibiki the most.
For someone who supposedly has an I.Q. of 600 Hongo certainly doesn't act like it. Frankly Hayato is the one who comes across as smarter since he recognizes the Shocker Rider imposter almost right away. Good luck with Kamen Rider V3 whenever you get to it. It has a charismatic lead, Destron is slightly more interesting of a villain faction (At least conceptually) and the Riderman arc is one of the better examples of an ongoing story line in a Showa series but it is kind of a mess. Its female lead has the same problem as the ones in this show, the pacing isn't great, and there's at least four episodes in a row that recycle scripts from episodes of the original show.
Nice Review Finally Doing 1st kamen Rider This Is 1 Of The Kamen Riders I Saw A Few Episodes On Watching Pluto TV On The TokuShouts Channel & I Can Understand Disappointment Of The Early Toku Lack Of Story Growth. I just thought of an interesting Kamen Rider game. One game that has all of the Showa era shows with all the stories and monsters, and other games for Heisei(maybe both phase one and phase two in one game) and Reiwa. And it will have all the forms for the riders who have multiple forms (Kiva and Den-o shouldn't be too hard since Kiva only has six forms and Den-o only has nine) And it should be sold in America. When I saw that W,OOO and Zero one had a game, I wanted to check it out but could only get it on Ebay(Still enjoyable) so I would like it to be available to us fans in America. Then again it would possibly cause a data crash in any console.
@ role playing action game. The way I see it is something like the Lego Star Wars the skywalker saga game where you can choose from one of the shows and play through it as the riders. And during shows like Ryuki the ai can adapt to the episode depending on which rider it centers around. Like say an episode centered around makoto hikawa or Sakuya tachibana. It would instantly change characters remotely to fit the episode. And the monsters would be the bosses (it would take a while because Ichigou is 98 episodes and that’s probably how many days it would take to finish it) and the foot soldiers would be the minions you can face. For decade, I was thinking either the same foot soldiers for each level or past monsters would be the foot soldiers like in the series. I don’t know how the individual episode of each season portion of the game would work but with technology advancement I’m sure someone could make a way.
@@superyoshibros3308 For those three, probably Ultraman first, then Gorenger, followed by Kamen Rider. Ultraman would probably be first because it's much shorter. 🙂
Oh my god! It's happening! It's finally freakin' happening! What took you so long to get to this show since it's already been legally available in the US for a couple of years?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You mean underdog. Btw, what made you want to change your mind over reviewing this show now instead of waiting for a physical release? Just curious.
It is unusual that youtube doesn't put your stuff on my feed anymore. I am surprised to see you review this, considering you made it quite clear your entry point was Ryuki. Older Kamen Rider shows usually doesn't appeal to modern Kamen Rider fans. Modern shows give more personalities to the characters, so that makes the older shows bland & boring. I can imagine it must be a pain for you to go through all of them for this video. But to me, modern shows have 1-note characters & anime tropes, which is far worse & super annoying to watch. To me, as someone who actually gets to watch this run on tv (obviously, not when it originally aired). I like it a lot. Yes, your criticisms are valid, but then again, you don't really watch Kamen Rider for those. You watch it for the action & creativity, which the show has in spades. I also like Kamen Rider for not being afraid to be violent or dark for a kids show. You can say Shocker is bland & boring as much as you want, the costume changes, revolving characters & the schemes actually makes it feels like Shocker is a massive organization who has a lot going for them, the constantly schemes & adapts to achieve their goals, it makes the world feels less rigid. The fight locations are also very interesting to watch as they just seems to be able to come up with all the interesting locations to shoot at. I prefer this over the same old 3-4 locations they do today (maybe the only exception is Blade), I'll even go as far as to say I prefer the quarry. I miss these aspects in modern shows dearly. I like Hongo, you can say he's boring, but he's a good model for what a man should be (at least for the time period, but my experience suggests it is timeless even if today's society wants to dismiss it). I still appreciate that stoic calm demeanor. I like Ichimonji too, his playful demeanor does give that human touch & provides contrast to the darkness around him. It is a good dynamic, yes. But sometimes he comes across as annoying. I don't hate him, though, I appreciates his determination. I do agree, there needs to be a balance here, it's also why I like Godai from Kuuga. I am also not surprised you'd brought up damsel tropes & racism allegation. It's something western fans like to do, which makes me wonder if western fans love looking for stuff to be offended by. It is not uncommon to name people after colours, or call them by their skin colour, I don't like westerners trying to say this is racist. Racism would be hating someone for their race, not their skin colour. The colour is a factor, but not all of it. Asian 'black' skin is probably considered 'brown' or 'tanned' by western standards, so it's not even a race thing. It just means the person is rugged or outdoorsy. Sure, the damsel trope is so 1970s & so tired & played out & all that jazz. To me, it is weirdly realistic. You as a man, has value & purpose in protecting & providing. If you are good at it, you have people who'll come to you. Since it's a show for boys in their early teens, you can imagine why'd they need multiple somewhat decent-looking women to be around the Rider. But me, at this age, I just find their interaction & the stereotypical trope funny above all else. I guessed you could say the 1971 Kamen Rider is a sort of action + dark comedy to me. Alright, enough talk on the 1971 show. Have you checked Gabu? I'm quite surprised how much I actually like the show. Shoma is almost as annoying as Tsugami or Kido, but he is a fish-out-of-water, so it makes sense. It's almost like, Gabu managed to blend the old charm & the modern charm. Yes, i really hate the suit designs, but Gabu is just fun.
I've been enjoying the hell out of Gavv. We've done livestream discussions for the episodes we have watched if you are interested in those. I've got no problem watching and enjoying old shows. Hell, half of my movie collection are films from the 30s-50s. I'm a huge Film Noir fan on top of people like Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Mitchum, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Boris Karloff, etc. On the subject of the original Kamen Rider, what is your favorite episode? I agree about locations. There was a lot of variety in older shows from mountains, forests, Namegawa Island, etc. The problem is sadly a lot of those older areas are either off-limits to Toei nowadays or they're gone. They're not even allowed to actually have bikes driven on public streets if they aren't real bikes. No idea why.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Cool, goood to know you like Gabu too. Maybe I'll try to catch your stream if youtube shows your stuff on my feed again. Due to the nature of my childhood, I obviously have not watched all 98 episodes, but I've catch a lot of them. As you can imagine, due to the creative designs of the monsters, I remembered them by the monster designs. I also generally like the fight scenes, locations, Ichimonji's interactions with the girls & Shocker's schemes, those are main reasons I watch the show. But if I have to think from the top of my head, some of my eps would be the flower monster, butterfly monster, wasp woman, bat monster, Taki & his wife got attacked, there were 2 eps that Tachibana & the gang got sick if i recalled correctly, the final showdown with Colonel Zol, the mummy ep (which you mentioned in the vid) was interesting to watch as well, the introduction of Gel-Shocker, the intro of the evil Riders. As for locations, I don't expect them to go to those exact places, just places with new & interesting scenery. Blade had the right idea. I don't want to see that warehouse, that same streets & tunnels again. Modern villains makes me miss the scheming evil organizations like Shocker. These days, the villains seems to only have 1 plan which they keep failing, they aren't scary or intimidating to me, they just come across as inept. Now that you've mentioned bikes, you've reminded me how little of bike combats we have these days. Last 1 that satisfies me so well was Kuuga. Now the name 'Kamen Rider' means nothing because they don't even ride anything. I miss those bike combats, if only they can shoot at empty open areas or something. But still, if the bikes on the streets has to be 'real bikes', we already see bikes with the ability to transform or infuse it with Rider powers in combat. They can just make bikes transforms like the riders. It's not like they even bother to explain how can some random schmo knows how to fight just by wearing a belt anymore. Like in Gabu, it doesn't even explain how does Shoma knows how to fight, he just has his red Gabu, eats his gummy Gochizo & he's a kamen rider now. Anyways, good vid, I hope this doesn't send you down a rabit hole of making reviews of all kamen rider shows or something. That might be exhausting. As for my attempt to marathon kamen rider series. I put it on indefinite hiatus. Decade seems like it exists to insult every other shows that comes before it & I really don't appreciate that at all.
9:37 - 10:21 And we're suppose to believe this man is more serious than Ichimonji, y'know the more wisecracking and fun one of the so-called rider duo, with the impossible IQ of 600 to boot. Whoever scientist in Shocker pitched the idea that this man had the peak level intelligence to be worthy of being remodeled into an almighty bug cyborg spandex warrior definitely got gruesomely executed for the apparent utter misinformation and foolish miscalculation 😂 Ladies and Gentlemen, the evil tyrannical Nazi-like organization would not have been taken down so easily... if it weren't for the moronic cuckoo scientist who thought this clearly all brawn no brainer was the perfect candidate to turn into a powerful cyborg bike riding bugboy that would serve their evil organization.
@@ricardopjproductions Not sure. I know that is what helped motivate me to get through the show as quickly as possible as I wanted to be done with it before I tackled the V3 BD.

Ruriko have appear post-series and there is explanation why she part-way with Hongo, in Kamen Rider Spirits, a manga loose adaption of Kamen Rider ZX and serve as the swan song of 9 Showa Riders. But unfortunately Toei is terrible at marketing. Sure Toei, don't release Kamen Rider Spirits internationally and have new fans interest in older entry of the franchise. Instead make a movie where they fight because they were from different eras, even though 4 of the old gen were made in they foe era. Surely new fans can't wait the watch the old show starring assholes and calling the new gens whiny babies
So to 1971, Salute for kickstarting this wonderful staple to Japanese Kids, Kids at heart and passionate fans however unfortunately as a whole this show was not that good. 3/5 (i'd gladly watch this over Super 1 and 1979 so yeah there's that)
If you didn’t like the original, then I’m afraid for you probably won’t enjoy v3 either. Maybe you should take a break from riders and review something a bit different like the original showa kikaider, akumaizer, or inazuman series next. A lot of similar hero and villain cliche and tropes do get carry over to v3 like the whole hidden shocker leader and the cyborg experiments. In a way, a lot of subsequent showa rider seasons are a loose remake of the original. A lot of the monsters get reused in later seasons like the cyborg spider, cobra, and bat monsters. The plant one got an redesign for v3. Even the Jaguar and squid hybrid was used in an kamen rider Os episode. You should look out for the next anniversary sentai too and expect a lot of spoiler photos now they’re shooting it in advance.
Kikaider is coming out on BD from Discotek, so I won't be tackling that until it has been released. However, my next project is Donbrothers, as that is my review for Xmas. I'm not tackling V3 and Blazar until I am done with that. My plan is to finish Donbrothers this upcoming week so I can work on the review leading up to Xmas.
And here we are again. I decided to watch this show a bit definitely mainly because well it's so dang long! And what so I think of it? I will give it leeway in that this is the first show but even I have to say this show was not as great as purists make it out to be. Was it worth the watch? Yes I was. But I think we can all agree Shocker are big dummies!
I think you reversed Hongo and Taki's descriptions. Hongo is an iconic hero in Japan, a lot like Captain Kirk in the US. I would say Fujioka who plays Hongo has the same kind of cult status that Shatner enjoys over here. Hongo is a G. Taki is kind of annoying, cause he's powerless and keeps getting into the action, when it's about the Rider fights we came to see.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworklove your review 😊
Loved the Austin power joke after that car went off the cliff.
I love that sequence.
I totally agree. It's intersting to watch them just play around with what works and find what doesn't work.
Tobei Tachibana Is A Legend
He's cool.
I have been waiting years for this review. After first finding your channel, I searched for your review of the original Kamen Rider and was surprised not to find it.
I was originally going to review it years ago and then Shout! announced they had the license for it so I figured I would wait for a physical BD release. That never happened so I finally gave up.
The best shift in this series was from Berets to Masked Luchadores.
Guess this means you’re back with kamen rider reviews huh? Nice!! Looking forward to your reviews on OOO Gaim Den-O and the rest of them.
Not quite. I'm going to focus on finishing the Showa era of Kamen Rider off after I am done with Sentai next year.

@Michelleabela5487 I have never watched Amazon, but I thought Amazons as horrid. Well, I liked the first season and had it ended there, I would have said it was fantastic. However, they gave it a dreadful third season and a boring as hell movie, so as a whole, I found it to be me medicore.

Happy to see you finally review the original series.
I know you were waiting for that eventual blu-ray, I think, to come out but Shout sure is taking its sweet time on that one.

Some of the tracks are so iconic that they are reused in Shin Kamen Rider 👍
A fantastic review of a tokusatsu classic. I hope you do Kamen Rider V3 soon.

It kind of does. lol

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork i modeled that saying after Captain Marvelous saying "lets make it showy"
No wonder why i've been struggling with this show but i'm definitely grateful that it lead to kickstarting a good franchise plus i do think this is why the heisei era has experimented with different premises for each show.
Probably. The Heisei era did such a great job at the start.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Both Kuuga & Agito are absolutely PEAK Tokusatsu IMO for sure 🔥
This is were it all begins in history of kamen rider
Yep.

After covering many entries from good to bad, it's time for the one that started it all
Yep.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork starring the man, the myth, the legend, SEGATA SANSHIRO
That sounds about right. Hahah
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork granted the way it's handled in some shows actually benefits characters as well as narrative progression, so I have no issue. In other cases, it can be hit or miss.
@ Yeah, the way the show did it definitely worked, it was just weird how Hongo and Ruri leave off-screen.
6:30-6:40 Look it's Suzuka Morita and Mikaho Niwa's Ancestors

I love this series. The body horror, the style, the music, the spaghetti western mood.
It does have a lot of fun parts to it despite its flaws.
I watched the whole thing, and loved it. Even with the flaws, it has a charm to it. They didn’t really plan on people years later having access to the entire show online.
What was your favorite episode?
I'll get there eventually.
of course, the REAL ending for Kamen Rider was the first episode of V3!
Which is odd because even those didn't feel like an ending.
It’s not a coincident that the first rider and sentai manage to run for nearly two years each respectively.
Both were a chore to get through due to their length.
then a young Hideaki Anno looks at this series and said "I can fix this show" and 50 years later he made the Shin Kamen Rider movie.
And yet, even Shin was a mess. :-)
Thank you!

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I asked if you could review the original Kamen Rider in another video and you finally did it.
@@ryanangelastro504 Gotcha. 😀
Keep up the good work👍
Also, i really enjoy these old toku, where the effect never that 100% good, i kinda like to see how they do it. Like how suits actor see out of their costumes or how some shot were done. The newer, more polished CGI are a bit to clean and bland for me. That's my perspective on the effects.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork 4 months!? Its taken my wife and I nearly 4 years to get through it. only cuz we lost track at one point of what episode we had finished previously.

Kamen rider doesn't have a motorcycle license thats hilarious
It kind of is.

I heard the fujioka was auditioning for a play or something around the time for those later episodes. And because he wasn't available some things change like doctor desrh kaijin form was suppose to be the sawshark kaijin from the episode before his debut as ikadevil.

Will you do review for Kamen rider V3, X and Amazon?
Of course. I'm slowly watching V3 now via Discotek's BD. I want to tackle X and Amazon next year at somepoint.
What type of game would it be? RPG? Action? Side scroller?
Oh and it would be on all consoles, so switch, ps5/4 Xbox and whatever other consoles people want.
Question:What was your ranking for Ultraman 1966? I don't think you ranked it in previous videos.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork
Cool, goood to know you like Gabu too.
Great tv series 😊
You heard lets go rider kick, now go listen to the sniper king theme from one piece.
:-D
9:37 - 10:21 And we're suppose to believe this man is more serious than Ichimonji, y'know the more wisecracking and fun one of the so-called rider duo, with the impossible IQ of 600 to boot. Whoever scientist in Shocker pitched the idea that this man had the peak level intelligence to be worthy of being remodeled into an almighty bug cyborg spandex warrior definitely got gruesomely executed for the apparent utter misinformation and foolish miscalculation 😂
Ladies and Gentlemen, the evil tyrannical Nazi-like organization would not have been taken down so easily... if it weren't for the moronic cuckoo scientist who thought this clearly all brawn no brainer was the perfect candidate to turn into a powerful cyborg bike riding bugboy that would serve their evil organization.
Hahahahaha
To be fair, being intelligent doesn't mean you are smart.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Oh yeah, common sense exists
For some reason I thought you had already done this show. Probably because of Skyrider and Gorenger.
Nope, I was hoping for an official BD release before I tackled it, but no dice.
As much as I love the original Ultraman I find Kamen rider 71 and Goranger to be more energetic and entertaining.
My rankings are Gorenger, Ultraman, Kamen Rider.
32:41 tokenism bro tokenism
lol
I personally really like it i do say some episodes were pretty same and atlist remove 25 ep from it also my first rider show/tokusatsu
It was entertaining.
This is were all started the henshin boom period
Yeah.
Can you review kamen rider ooo? It’s my favorite rider series
I'll get there eventually.
Yeah, we'd probably be better off reading the serialized manga. But at least we got Super Sentai from this.
I still need to read the manga.
Well... At least it's not on a Skyrider level. I hope you enjoy V3 better.
Agreed and I hope so.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworkDo you think i should only watch V3 after the first one? Because V3 is a direct sequel.
@@ricardopjproductions Not sure. I know that is what helped motivate me to get through the show as quickly as possible as I wanted to be done with it before I tackled the V3 BD.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworkOk
I know this is off topic of the video but I need to talk to someone about this. Yesterday I had a skin tag removed so they could do a biopsy on it to make sure I don’t have cancer. My emotions are all messed up about it because my mom had a operation done on one not too long ago and that fact makes me feel scared of what my results will be
What is scaring you about it?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Just not knowing whether I have it or not. Sorry about that, I was once agonistic too, but I'm a believer now, but I'm still learning the ropes of faith. I sat down and talked about it with my mom and she understands why I was upset about it and told me to keep having faith. I came to talk to you because I felt alone and needed to talk to a friend about it. (I know we haven't met in real life, but I couldn't think of another word to describe this)
@@jonahfunk898 Makes sense. I would say don't stress out over it as there's nothing you can do at this moment in time. Hope for the best and brace for impact if things go south. Sorry, I'm not good at handing out advice in text.
@ thank you. It’s okay, not everyone is good at it
I just got my biopsy results today. I am cancer and anything else free.
Well, I can only base my opinion on Ruriko for what was physical shown and said in this series.
So to 1971, Salute for kickstarting this wonderful staple to Japanese Kids, Kids at heart and passionate fans however unfortunately as a whole this show was not that good.
3/5 (i'd gladly watch this over Super 1 and 1979 so yeah there's that)
Oh it's definitely not the worst KR series, it's just long and sometimes boring. Entertaining nonetheless.
Thankfully V3 is a much needed improvement over the original show.
I hope so. So far it feels like it's just more of the same, but I'm only 4 episodes in.
Yeah, the show isn't the masterpiece some make it out to be, but that's okay. People think I'm crazy for Blade being my top KR series.
😮
I think you reversed Hongo and Taki's descriptions. Hongo is an iconic hero in Japan, a lot like Captain Kirk in the US. I would say Fujioka who plays Hongo has the same kind of cult status that Shatner enjoys over here. Hongo is a G. Taki is kind of annoying, cause he's powerless and keeps getting into the action, when it's about the Rider fights we came to see.
Nah, I definitely prefer Taki over Hongo. BTW, I'm also not a fan of Captain Kirk. Find him to be a boring character too.
Rideeeeeeeeer henshin i wait a can transform to ichigo first i have to bye csm 50th anniversary cyclone to transform: Noooooooooooo
nice.

@@koby_mitchell Yep. I'll get to them at some point.
I can’t say if it’s good or not but it is very VERY long…
Long indeed and you feel the length.
compared to other shows its cardboard but if it wasnt for this we would not have awesome shows like Revice, Den-O, Blade, Fourze and more also there are trashes like Geats, Saber, Decade, Zi-O, Kiva
I disagree about Geats and Kiva, but it's cool.
Were you aware one of the child actors in the show was played by the actor who played Ichiro in Godzilla revenge?
Also episode 84 was directed by Ishinamori himself who also cameos as a fisherman behind killed by the moft?
Yeah, I read that episode was directed by Ishinomori and it was a really good episode.
Did not know about Ichiro, but it doesn't surprise me.
Kaiju no Kami hates his fans =( never responds
I'm responding right now.
