Season 1 forever......I love the old fashioned "modest" feel to the wardrobe etc compared to the later seasons and post 2000 new millenium....(watching it 20+ years later)......season 1 has a cozyness to it, plus the warm lighting and fuzzy camera effects. its so unique and comforting
It definitely looks like set design took the floor plan and architectural styles of the house's interior into consideration. I see many similarities: the the staircase, the foyer, and the dining area, etc. However, it does look like they (figuratively) knocked out a few of the walls before constructing the set. My guess is that the idea was to make the set more spacious, which would make filming easier.
i wonder if the set still exists on some lot or if it's been deconstructed. that's the house i wanna visit! the house here is where they filled the pilot. in all the rest of the series they manipulated the floorplans a bit.
@@Constavlos If I remember correctly, they filmed the penultimate episode last because the destruction of the set was 'real' (obviously they didn't blow it up but the rubble is the real debris of the set)
THANK YOU, because......I had read somewhere ONCE that the attic was actually in a different house and I could never find that info again! I also had been looking at the other homes on the block trying to figure out which house it could be. And now I have complete confirmation!
I don't know why the owner said that the attic was used in the house over the road, as the whole house was a set in a studio. They only used the exterior of the Manor. However, in the unaired pilot, they used the real interior that you visited here. But it's still so interesting!
When they filmed the pilot, the show didn't have a set yet, that's why they filmed the pilot on the real house, but the real house doesn't have an attic like we see on the show, so they filmed the attic scenes inside the real attic of the house across the street. When the show got approved they made a replica of the attic and made the interior bigger so they could move the cameras easily. Source: my dad was a producer of season one
+Eddy Triana Thanks. I was aware that they had used the real interior for the unaired pilot and then eventually built an interior replica once the show got picked up for a full season. However, the attic that was used in the unaired pilot was still a set, the same one that was used for the aired pilot I believe. It was the only set that was built at the time. If you go and look back, both attics are identical, apart from a pole in the centre of the room in the unaired pilot. (I studied this concept of set building for a class years and years ago for college.)
+CleverBoxPictures actually if you re watch the pilot episode and compare the attic to the one used for the full series you can see the sizes are different. Besides when you have a cross hipped kind of roof it's pretty usual to have a pole placed in the middle, so maybe the pilot was really filmed in the real attic like the guy above said, then the set of the attic was made and being a set it doesn't need the pole in the middle. they can make a replica of everything just like the stairs of the real house and the stairs of the show
+Hr95 Hr95 I do agree. However, the views from the window don't quite match up either. But it could well be, I'm not saying anyone is wrong. But from everything I've observed, it looks like a set. :)
Historically, it's known as the old "Innes House." And they offer tours once or twice a week there. Can't remember if you have to pay to get in or not. But I would say so, as everyone is out for a buck these days.
Tour is the 1st Saturday of the month starting at 10AM. According to LA Conservatory. Was there last Saturday. Definitely a site to see if you're a fan of the show.
@@kennethmolette2286 : That one person asked about the attic, but it was not shown in the video. What is the story with the attic; is it not filmed in that house?
@@meghanandharryfans Well, that house doesn't have an attic. So they filmed the attic scene of the pilot episode in the other house if you think about it that makes sense since the attic would mean there is a third story to the house and clearly in all the shots of the house there is no third story.
I'd die if the owner invites me in. Wow. I grew up watching the show and still watching it because I love it so much, imagine be actually there!!! Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to know how much that house was used...because it looks hardly like on the show, way too many walls and on the show it was more open. I think that second house was used more than anything. On the show when they first brought Paige on it was like a walk way from the front door to the stairs rather than looking like a square foyer.
Interesting how the show moved the staircase into the center of the house where the study is. I guess to make it seem bigger or to give more room for camera crews so it didn’t seem cramped in TV. The house looks about the same size, just a more closed floor plan.
And two houses away, there is the house used in Michael Jackson’s music video Thriller. And next to it, there is the house used in Mad Men (Dan’s brothel).

yeah but I am actually surprised a lot of similarities like the staircase and windows, and the living room area, and you could see similarity of the dinning room area as well.
Sorry but some of the outside scenes of the first season was in this house......Can you remember the first episode when Prue closed the door??....If you pay attention the stairs were so closed just behind her but in the last episode of the first season when she clsed the door whit her hand we can´t see nothing........in the show the stairs where a little far from the door...Some of the scenes of the first episodes were taking from the Pilot.
