    afraid to say I must be one of the few people to have stacked it forwards, after a 20 year break from skating I decided to hit the skatepark again in my late 30s. I remembered from when I used to skate that the key to dropping in was leaning forward so put everything into leaning forward, i didnt even give the board a chance to keep up with my body, instead just through myself straight into the bottom of the ramp, gnarly. Its been another 10 years and here I am again about to go do it all over again

    Perhaps the #1 mistake I see people make learning to drop in, is keeping their back leg strait. They hear the advice to slam their front leg down, but with the back leg strait and locked, they can't get the front trucks on the ramp.
    2 tricks I use to break people of this:
    1. A variation on your tip to reach forward - I actually tell people to touch or grab the nose of the board. This forces them to get their weight lower and keep both legs bent. It usually also serves as a cue to keep their body moving with the board.
    2. If they continue to have trouble, I tell them to think more about picking their back leg up than slamming their front foot down. If you look at your video, you'll notice your back leg position changes a lot more than your front leg.

      Oh yea the half commit is more devastating than a regular slam by far.

  • @okosakaroklenni
    @okosakaroklenni 8 месяцев назад

    One thing I found useful when learning: with all your weight on your back foot, and barely touching the board with your front, try falling forward without putting any pressure on the front of the board, and without the board moving at all, like you want to fall forward onto your side. At the very last moment of this freefall, when your brain tells you to avoid it, do the stomp and put everything on your front foot. Your can actually practice it without the board. It is esppecially helpful if you want to start practising on straight ramps without coping, where your board is likely to roll backwards if you to the whole thing too slow. But even if the ramp has coping it helps to delay the stomp, so you are more likely in a perpendicular position relative to the board.

  • @warcraftdude13
    @warcraftdude13 4 года назад +4

    tip: Tighten your trucks if youre a beginner dropping in. Reason: First time I was learning i had loose trucks, got the confidence, tried stomping down and sprained my ankle as my front foot twisted sideways onto the board. Next time I tried and got rid of that variable just learning to drop in and get the feel I did it first time.

  • @hommuside
    @hommuside Год назад

    My thought process is ‘I’m a falling tree’. Only when the tree is at decent 45degree angle do I engage the front foot and slam the nose down. I
    Seems to work. After the initial customary slip-out slam.

Getting into skating at 40 I'm at a beginner/low intermediate skill level and managed to do BS Kickturns and "drop ins" from medium size ramps with the help of your tutorial. I want to get own gear as I am really hooked now :) Should I get a 8.5, 8.75 or 9" board with size 12 or does it not matter at my skill level? Used an oldschool deck (Front part under bolts wider than tail, front shorter than tail with only a little rise in the nose). Or can I use the the old school deck for what I want to do in a board? Want to learn proper ollies and a bit of bowl skating/carving for starters. Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you if you find time to reply and have a great summer 🤙

    I fell forward like twice. Once as a kid, once as an adult, learning again. Both times were right after falling backwards and I over compensated, overloaded the front wheels and basically rolled forward. Hurt my shoulder a bit, but I almost dislocated my shoulder once falling backwards, so definitely prefer falling forward, tho I'm good dropping in now. It's figuring out what to do on the other side of the ramp I'm struggling with

    I taught skate camp for several years and what I often did was have kids stand on the transition (as if they had just dropped in without a board) and pointed out how much weight is on their front foot and the back foot was just there for support. That helped a LOT to convince them to lean forward more than they think they need to.
    If they still resisted, I'd have them pump on the ramp until they hit the top, and then do tail taps. That's very close to dropping in.

    My brain when I’m up there: your gonna fall on your head, you need more practice, your gonna fall, you will injure yourself and you can’t skateboard again, your gonna embarrass yourself, your not ready, your gonna break your neck, you will get a serious head injury,
    Me after those thoughts: yep Im gonna go back down

    Tried to drop in on a small concrete hump about 0.5 m (2 feet) high 4 weeks ago, and slammed badly onto my outstretched right wrist and also knee, leading to a fractured radial head and a surgical operation to extract the fractured piece from my elbow joint and reattach it. I'm slowly getting some mobility back but still only have around 10 degrees range of motion in my right arm.
    I'm goofy and the fact that I landed on my front arm and leg indicates to me that my board might have gone backwards - possibly I leaned and pushed down too much and sent the board flying out behind me. For the record, I'm an old skater who hasn't skated much in the last 30 years, but used to skate some mini-ramps and bowls, and could drop in no problem.

    • @jaywilliams720
      @jaywilliams720 4 года назад

      humps are booky to drop in on i really wouldn't recommend trying it on one, i can guarantee you wouldn't have gone forward on a standard ramp. i've never slammed a drop in my entire life but the one time i tried it on a hump i came real close. i'm pretty sure it's to do with the fact that with such a mellow curve and no coping the board can slip backwards whereas on a quarter that's impossible
