They made a better job of this than the Golf 8, looks great
Yep, I wish Golf 8 had this overall theme instead of the worsened id.3 one.
I owned Tiguan of previous generation in 2010 for 2 yrs. Very practical and reliable car! People complained about DSG transmission but not me not the current owner have ever problems with it!
The previous generation had a very rough suspension, hated it

These "Golf front lights" fit better in this Tiguan. Subtly improved the overall look of the car.

I kind of liked the pre facelift more square design. It didn't even need a facelift. But it still looks nice anyway like most VWs. The design is clean.
@@Gubers I bought a 2020 SE couple day ago. Have you tried going over speed bumps? I notice if I'm going slow I hear this clunk sound on the front end, I'm taking it in but was curious if you heard anything?

Great Preview! Five years ago Thomas showed us a GTE PHEV at the September 2015 Frankfurt IAA Tiguan Mk2 launch: now here at last? But sure to be pricey. I guessed the facelift would just be a Touareg/Arteon grill! Not so keen on the cheap looking steering wheel, the old one was common to VW but had quality! Many thanks for the detail Autogefuhl. +john collymore - agree. Details, details! And also I prefer the cleaner, simpler, lower bonnet of the existing SWB Tiguan, not the more bulky Allspace bonnet used on this Facelift for the SWB. I don't like the bulkier gear lever either - the existing DSG lever on high-spec cars is classy with its aluminium inserts. It also looked like the R-Line Facelift has lost the sliding lid to the cup holders (the R had it though)!

A well done VW Tiguan overview. I really enjoy Thomas auto reviews, very concise and informative.
Interesting move from VW. It looks pretty good in both the R and R-line specs. However, I think it is a pity that they have chosen to continue with the same design language of the front as in the new Golf. Personally, I prefer the front of the previous model far more. The biggest fault in the design is the IQ.Light engraving that continues towards the side of the car. It just makes the front area look odd. But all in all a great addition to the VW family with an extension of the R line-up. Seems like VW is really stepping up in terms of how broad their line-up has become . thumbs up for that. The interior is awesome and I appreciate that they continue to make it animal friendly (wish they did it in the Arteon facelift also) but the previous R/R-line steering wheel just looks that much better. Thank you for a great review again Thomas. You are the best out there!

The plastics and other materials inside look of same standard as on Polo which is surprising,. Sounds like money saving move by VW.
Yes! I don't know what they're doing these days. Maybe the fines they had to pay is hurting them. The Golf 6 had a nicer feeling interior than the new Golf 8.

@@christianwold i believe that passat/arteon in nowdays are the only models with quality of vw-audi standards (i don't know about the new Touareg..) all the other models of vw are more like Seat's stantards (even skoda's cars are better..)Golf 8 it's a downgrade in quality for sure..i think that Mk4 and Mk6 are the golf's with best quality and feeling of the series and also i think that will take a long time to see a Golf with quality that corresponds to the Name of Golf.

Well A: Dieselgate money gotta come from somewhere (their own fault). B: Polo is way worse inside m8, what are you saying? The fact that you even point that out in this way, says enough about how much you know about the interiors of cars. BUT it IS true that the interior quality of this car is not great, it is just average.

After the facelift the front looks very similar to the one of the golf, which is not necessarily a compliment.
Personally I found the old front design better.
I had also hoped they would change the boring interior design too but exept for the steering wheel and the climate unit everything remained the same.
I agree, the old front looked better to me, now it's like eyes with makeup trailing the sides for a "Cleopatra" look or something..
I would have to test the new buttons inside before passing judgement, but the old ones worked great, so we'll see.
I also miss the Sebring rims the old one had, so cool.

The new Tiguan R is even more beautiful than an Audi SQ5, I'm impressed.
Definitely not more beautiful in my eyes. But price is more beautiful lol I have an 18 Tiguan but trading it for an Arteon.

I think VW had brought the R Line too close to the R in terms of badging and styling. BMW manage to differentiate the MSport from the MPerformance and M cars much more successfully

SWB looks so much better proportioned than the LWB version.
In north america, why couldn't all 5 seaters be SWB and all 7 seaters be LWB?
Is there any information if the facelift also affects the LWB (Allspace)?
I think the old headlights gave it a bit more of a SUV aggressive face.

That Tiguan R is the one i have been dreading and pining for many years now. I have a 2013 Tiguan 155kw with Stage 1 delimiter removal patch meaning i was driving a Tiguan R anyway. The bells and whistles the new R comes with would give it reason enough to fork out the extra coin for it over the standard car. This is going to be tough to keep my wallet locked away as i am need of a new car soon

The R really needs to be more unique to separate itself from the R Line. Speaking of which, the names are way too similar, and I suspect will cause no end of confusion.
It needs to have something on the outside and inside so you can tell right away. But even a few subtle cues would help. A few ideas would be a different cap on the steering wheel, or a different tone of metal surrounding the dash. Maybe even a strip of real carbon fiber over the dash? Or just extend the soft touch material to the rear compartment.
In any event, the R emblem should be unique to only one car. The extra engine power is great, but for the money, people also want to see more of something the lessor VWs don't have.
Best preview of the Facelift. Best video. Best detail. Always from Autogefuhl! Looking forward to Thomas test driving the R. Driving the standard model will be identical to the existing, but we look forward to Thomas showing us how a standard one looks. He will need his fake-exhaust police force, I fear, for the eHybrid, and I wonder if the police are needed for the ordinary cooking engines...!

I hope we get the R in America since the standard motor of 180 hp here sucks.
It will be very hard to market it in North America, as they want VW to be "affordable".
The R with import and duties, would cost more than the volume it would sell to justify the cost. Same reason scirocco was not sold in North America.
I hear apr has a tune for the us spec tiggy it would boost it up to 280hp
Aggggghhhhhhh!!! When Thomas reviewed the Arteon R shooting brake I said my Tiguan would be going. Now there is a Tiguan R coming!!!!

I think the Tiguan might edge it on practicality but I suspect the Arteon will be the more dynamic choice.
Don’t like the direction VW is going with the designs, the current Tiguan r line is still gorgeous.
I wish they didn't change the front end except the bumper. The new bumper is the only better looking part compared to pre-facelift

Interesting to see that the interior tech is still based upon the Golf Mk7.5 face-lift, rather than the Golf Mk8. So I guess they are overlapping the model generations Golf / Tiguan.
Plastics look similar to the Golf too.
Great job learnt about features on my tiguan carat I didn't know exist. Not your typical user I'd like more power for towing my horsebox and horses!

Great first look video! The facelift looks good! Definitely HATE those steering wheel capacitive buttons though. I sometimes hold the steering wheel by the spokes and that would be an absolute joke to be pressing those things all the time. Great video, stay safe!

The LED headlight main light units look like the same design used in the Karoq.

I'm betting a long list of issues. But only time will tell.
This is the short wheelbase European version. If it comes to the USA, the R will be the longer with more rear legroom.

I love plug in hybrids more and more everyday. You get to drive electrically until you get to the highway where the engine is most efficient plus the range is great. But I think I still like diesel more. Where's the diesel engines?

It was a real class car before but this just takes it up a notch or two. Can’t see why you would justify the extra premium to jump into a Q5 now.

Love the facelift. Definitely looks more refined. However I don’t understand how manufacturers can give you full digital display, panoramic roof but no power seats??? Seems cruel to have to option power seats in 2020 lol.

I’m a big bmw fan and in my family we own 3 but we’re thinking about getting the Tiguan R line, if you compare what the R line gives and stick a BMW badge on it, the car would be worth 50 grand as opposed to 34,000. Bmw don’t give you much but I can say they definitely give you quality. A lot of reviewers are saying it’s sluggish and not very responsive to drive, hopefully in October will go for a test drive and see for myself.
G K I tested the Tiguan, the GLC and the F Pace. The VW offers the best ratio for your money. But if you’re like me and give importance to details the X3 is still superior. The texture of the the materials, adjustments and suspension aren’t as good as the BMW products. Nevertheless I really loved the looks and driving. In my list I ranked in order of preference X3, GLC, Tiguan and F Pace. Good luck with your quest!

Facelift for Q5 and Tiguan at the same time? Is this a coincidence? (I understand that the target customer differs, but still ... it seems confusing for a potential buyer.)
Wow, fast again, starting to think that you have some clones Thomas, it's not possible otherwise ! Congrats for the review again, this Tiguan is a success for me interior and exterior, and it's probably the reason they are selling this model more than the Golf, which is pretty surprising !

Good review Thomas, as usual, for a very nice, even R or R line versions of the Tiguan, but i still not ok with Fake exhausts on R Line and touch control of the climate system (This one specialy has huge impact on ergonomics), i think VAG should revise those decisions.

i don't understand why VW keep the big lever in dsg models. It looks outdated. I was expecting to see especially in new Arteon the new small lever you see in new Golf or some Skoda products. Especially in the Arteon that is supposed to be a premium vehicle, the old lever looks outdated (though i have the same in my VW CC). Even Audi keep these big levers in some S tronic models but doesn't make sense to me. Looks more elegant and modern to have something small like you see in Merc or BMW
The old r line looks better to me. It looked way more aggressive and bold. This is too sleek for an suv.
