I can't see Flagg being a villain in Utah just because of his personality and direction of the franchise going forward but I can see Egor Demin being a huge star in Utah because of his skill set and his connection to BYU, plus he can slide right in at PG and move Keyonte George to his natural SG position.
The Jerry Sloan Jazz were hated for consistently beating teams who had more talent than Utah. They did it with toughness and high-level execution of the offensive game plan. It was a fun time to be a fan of the most hated team. 🤘
I think we were kind of the villian...but at the end, so many people wanted to see Jordan lose, cause he had beaten all of their teams so many times...that they actually wanted to see the Jazz win, and they probably had the best shot at beating those Bulls teams. I remember being in Newark NJ airport in 97 and wearing my Jazz Western Conference Champion shirt and had so many Knick fans come up to me and say, "I hope the Jazz kill Chicago." They had a hatred for MJ and the Bulls that was unmatched. Pacer Fans, Sixers fans, Celtics fans, Pistons fans....I actually think they were all rooting for the Jazz in those Finals.
The NBA is at it's best when many teams have franchise caliber players, including a handful of small market teams. It makes the league exciting and competitive.
I like your argument 😆 Hard to see if Cooper Flagg himself will be hateable but we'll see. A college talent like Ben Simmons didn't get hate in LSU but it added on over his NBA career.
There is one team that fits your storyline and has the potential to be even more disliked than the Utah Jazz: the Toronto Raptors, the NBA’s only team outside the United States. They have the unique ability to unite all of America against them. With the Raptors currently tanking, they are in prime position to land Cooper Flagg, making them an ideal fit for this narrative. Your pitch to the NBA aligns perfectly with the Raptors’ situation. We've already seen a glimpse of the USA vs. Canada rivalry in the Olympics, where the two nations with the most NBA talent faced off. Bringing that rivalry into the NBA could be an exciting prospect for the league’s power brokers, adding a layer of drama and intrigue that would captivate fans across North America.
I think the hate for the Jazz is more from the players who wanted to play with them and/or were jealous of their success for so long. It's also from many that don't have a clue what Utah the state is really like so they clown on their teams because of their fear of the unknown. They used to confuse Mormons with Amish, or that we couldn't dance like in Footloose. lol
I love this. And I can attest... after living in LA for over 20 years... people outside Utah, do indeed HATE the Jazz. (It was so fun being a Jazz fan, behind enimy lines. 😆)
"Cooper needs to go to Utah, because people hated Stockton and Malone" This is the dumbest logic I've ever heard. They hated the bad boy Pistons even more than Utah, but the league wasn't nearly as popular back then, and MJ hadn't reached his full stardom yet. What you're trying to say is that we need a finals with a heel. Cooper is gonna be that heel? If any teams are gonna fit the archetype of the Bulls v Jazz, it's going to be Twolves v Rockets.
One could argue that the bulls were the villains and people wanted the Jazz to beat them. Just like the Warriors were the villains and people wanted the Rockets to beat them in 2018
Im sad to see NBA highlights these days and just always seeing the Jazz getting dunked on (pun included). Being villains would be fun but we got to be villain material.
Good Gravey. Great content but had forced subtitles... PLEASE change that. I get enough of that from my kids. Thanks for the awesome content though. Hope I can continue to enjoy it. #experimentfailed
@ in my entire lifetime there has been one player from Duke worthy of a number one pick. Grant Hill. This dude will be league average across the stat sheet, which is why I compared him to Gordon. I say no thanks.
I also remember the Detroit Pistons as the most hated team in the day. We can only hope you are correct but Silver do not think this way. He wants a politically correct league which is boring. Also, big market teams are favored. Literally, the worst call I have seen was the flagrant foul on Key during the last game. I hate to say it but the NBA is rigged and not for the Jazz.
I don't know if anybody that hated the Jazz. They just didn't even care about them. So, I'm pretty sure it was the most watched Finals because of Jordan.
All going according to the plan. Simone Fontecchio became Flip. Olynyk became Collier. Build up value and trade for longer term, younger assets. A couple more seasons of this will be well worth it.
I think mistakes have been made over the last 2 years, but the Jazz will be really good for a really long time eventually. Their financials will be great going forward with this new salary cap system. They have piles of picks, and young talent. It takes a while in the NBA to get good, and the NBA is stacked right now. How long has OKC's rebuild taken and now look at them. They have tons of talent, they still have tons of picks, and their money is right. That's what the Jazz are going for.

i’m completely fine with being the villain if it means we get flagg
I’m ok with the jazz being the villain in general if we get to Stockton and Malone caliber again.
Im a 76ers fan and rooted BOTH times for Utah. Didn't hate them in the slightest.

@@Metal_4U2 I STILL cannot believe Chicago beat either of those Jazz teams. I don't care that they had Michael Jordan.

I remember hearing a similar thing. Thanks for the cheers, other teams! lol
Jazz!!!!!! Let's GO!!!!!!

Thanks for your insiight.
Heck ya that would be amazing to get Copper then if we can trade up and get Gaurd Egor Demin from BYU.
Nah we need him in Brooklyn!
great take - you killed it on this one. man it will be disappointing if we wind up with the 7th best guy in the draft this year

Digging that Beastie Boys hat my man .

Danny ainge is taking Adam Silver to park city to have the most expensive restaurant to discuss about Flagg 😤

Sorry, gotta be that guy. The villain of "Princess Bride" was prince Humperdink.
Why would you waste a number one pick on the next Gordon Hayward? As a Jazz fan, I am not interested.

Lebron James is my villain in the league .
God I hope so
Lol, no they don't they want him in a major TV market like LA, Chicago or NYC etc.
I’d bet my life cooper does not want to be on the jazz lol
Make Utah Jazz great again, lol. Sell a lot of hats I'm sure, haha
...and God wanted the Suns to win the championship in '93.

NBA? Where is the mastermind Ainge on this? We are in year three of his vaunted rebuild and getting WORSE every season.

Nah. They want flag with the spurs unfortunately. We could be the worst team in the league and still drop to the 5th or 6th pick lmao.
