I've had one for a few years now and they really are great EDC bags. The profile also does wonders in keeping with the Grey man ideology being that they look like standard school bags.
These packs are also amazing for wheelchair users, especially if your a daily mass transit user, also good for transit based medics.. I carry a naloxone kit on the front for easy grabbing, it's Velcro patch easily attached & is pretty secure.
Tjays awesome to know, I'm a wheelchair user and was actually thinking this one moght be good because of the nice level of organization. Do you find it sits well on the back of your chair even with the back panel designed for standing backs? I haven't tried anything with a more solid back yet because I figure my chair back is really different from what they're designed for but his one is very tempting.
This is my edc/get home pack. Only complaint is zipper tabs break off easily lost 2. Rest of pack is so durable and dirt wipes off it like it's nothing it still looks new years later. I personally mount mags on the left side of the panel so I can rip the tab up and access more mags without having to sling it off
Excellent review. I'd love to see you review the Vertx SOCP Sling. It's small but versatile for EDCing the basics. Thanks for your hard work and congrats on the the upcoming baby! That's great news.
Love your reviews. Very well thought out and give a great approach to using the bags. Totally have me addicted to Vertx bags. I have 2 already and i think im going to order this one with your code!
I like to buy those tiny little watch battery powered led keychain lights and put one pinned to the wall of the big compartment and the small compartment. Always have light I need readily available
I keep my MacBook Pro in a padded sleeve that goes into the padded holder. The tiny bit of extra bulk and negligible weight more anxiety reduction than overkill. Plus, I’ve never had it damaged and I REALLY bang my gear moving from vehicle to vehicle.
I love this pack, favorite backpack I’ve ever bought. My only complaint is when I’m carrying off body I can’t put my laptop in the laptop pocket because my weapon is sticking out. I wish they put more padding between the rapid deployment pocket and the laptop pocket so I wouldn’t be afraid of my laptop bending in half.
Thanks for this - was not aware of their bags, I need something for work that has these features, but doesn't look like I'm on a march ;) - will give this a try...
My only real gripe about Vertx is the weight of the bag itself. After getting my Mystery Ranch Scree I could not believe how light it was compared to my Gamut 2. Even my Transit slingpack is pretty hefty for something so small. Once you add a pistol, mag, light and med gear and it's quickly too heavy to carry comfortably for extended periods.
I own this pack and it's pretty solid but the middle pouch is completely useless if you have anything of size in there you can no longer use the large and small pouches
I carry the 20L Osprey daylight backpack, but its not perfect for EDC. I took off the chest strap, and tied the waist strap out of the way. in addition to my COVID mask pouch and tool pouch, I also carry a 5000 mah battery and short USB C cable, a travel toothbrush, some naproxen and benedryl, a button compass, and $150.00 in cash (incl. $2.00 in quarters). I also usually carry a leather "slapper" for self defense (not exactly legal, but you could call it a "change purse"). Its easy to carry too much crap, so I try to avoid overloading it. If I'm with my wife and we're walking a bit, her purse usually goes in there also!
With all the packs you’ve reviewed, have you come across one that works to carry a 6.5” 300bo pistol in addition to work laptop, water bottle and the usual stuff? I bought a Gamut 3.0 which is great, but a little challenging for the everyday work stuff AND the pistol with brace.
I was worried I had gotten the wrong backpack until you said, "I can't carry near as much in it." Yeah, I'm looking at getting molle attachments for my Gamut 2.0, and I'm not even storing medical equipment other than a tourniquet. I mainly have school stuff and some handy tools/supplies in it, but I'm finding new ways to make access to those tools faster while keeping them organized.
I bought this bag about a month ago and when I was looking for videos on it this was the first placed I came but oh well it’s a great bag for everyday in the ambulance I bought a small skinny lunch box that fits good in the main compartment.
I wished more companies used 3d mesh webbing like the mystery ranch backpacks. I have an arcteryx daily bag and you got a full sweat back after like 10 minutes.
Great video, but 5:37 jumped out at me. "I'm not going to go through what I carry on this" next sentence "What I usually carry on this is an IFAK......" Lol what?
Request... Can you do a video of med kit recommendations to carry in your personal vehicle? For vehicle crashes and incidents like that that you might roll up on.
I will say that I've used both the EDC 2.0 and GAmut 2.0 for carry of SBRs, range gear, and traveled. Both work very well. I used them every day all day at Disney world as well. I like to go smaller to avoid overpacking and the gamut 2.0 will cover more of your back, so if it's hot, you will feel it. The EDC is a great size, though. Both will stow under airline seats for carry on use. :D
@@AUSly09 question, I’m between the gamut 2.0 and edc ready pack. I need it to carry gym clothes & shoes, sunglasses, water bottle, protein shake bottle, soft armor, handgun, med kit, few odds & ends, lap top, and maybe some camera gear. Which would you suggest I need? Think I could fit this all in the edc ready pack 2.0? I’d prefer smaller if I can as you mentioned overpacking
I was running the Gamut 2.0 but recently switched to this pack. I ways I like this one instead of the Gamut cause of the admin pouch on the front and I don't have to worry about the possibility of pulling the front and spilling everything, but I miss the side pockets and the top glasses pocket. On both, I wish they had put the waterbottle pocket draw strings on the outside instead of inside,
I’m hung up between the Gamut and edc ready pack. I need it to carry gym clothes, shoes, handgun, soft armor, laptop, med kit, and few odds & ends for filming such as a small tripod, camera. Any thoughts on this? I don’t want a massive bag, but not quite sure the edc ready pack could carry why I’m asking for
I’m looking for a new bag, I have a gamut and I used to like it but I’ve grown to dislike it. It’s awful with holding things in my opinion, you add a jacket folded up and it expands so much. But it’s hard to find a bag I like with two bottle sleeves on the side.
Exactly! I've had the same Jansport Backpack I use for EDC for Years... $25.00. It's about as "Grayman" as it gets. When it gives up the Ghost, I'll buy another one!
Do you remember what color this was called? I love it because it’s more gray than green. I just received mine and it’s the same color green as that Gamut that you showed. Very different color. I had to search high and low to find the color that I wanted and now it’s not even that color 🤦♂️
Want a nicer edc / day bag but man all of the pockets on most of these would drive me nuts. Also they seem so heavy. My hunting pack with a full frame can carry more weight than I can and it’s like 4lbs. I think a big main compartment with a laptop sleeve and a little molle plus one or two other compartments is all I need. I guess I just want an upgraded school bag really.
Cheaper to make your own IFAK. I think the contents on a IFAK will vary from person to person. Mine has a TQ, ace wrap, kyrlex , 4x4s, steri strips, derma bond and hemostatic gauze.
If you wanna super basic ifak you could get a curaplex stop the bleed kit of Amazon for $60, and then add other stuff you think you need with the money you saved.
Can anyone on this community recommend a 18LT pack with 8-9 compartments & edc as I’m a set medic and carry a funny pack for quick grab of bandaids, meds ect, with all my other gear. It needs to be lite color interior as well. Thanks 😊
@@christopherbertoli7322 Thanks Christopher. Maybe I tend to over stuff gear bags and have busted a lot of zippers (also I tend to go "on the cheap" way too often). I work a lot around salt water environments and those tend to turn zippers into stiff affairs that need lube (paraffin wax works good and does not spread to the rest of the material or other equipment as easily as oil) or else the zipper seizes up and binds and the stitching around it starts to rip out. Still, no defense when using cheap gear--I'll check into Tom Bihn and Red Oxx (I have actually never heard of them before) and maybe not have to shoe-goo so much stuff back together (sigh...).
