- // a video montage interpretation of one of my most favourite songs. //
// inspired by the cyberpunk vision of William Gibson .. . interweaved tales of individual lives in the dark world of 'Night City' . tropes that echo in the experiences of a lot of us out here in the night. :::: " .... we are noting ... nothing more , than shadows ..." //
// ' The Floating World is a contemporary expression in cyberpunk parlance alluding to a a classical Japanese cultural underground - -- from wikipedia : Ukiyo (Japanese: 浮世 "Floating World") described the urban lifestyle, especially the pleasure-seeking aspects, of Edo-period Japan (1600--1867). The "Floating World" culture developed in Yoshiwara, the licensed red-light district of Edo (modern Tokyo), which was the site of many brothels, chashitsu tea houses, and kabuki theaters frequented by Japan's growing middle class. The ukiyo culture also arose in other cities such as Osaka and Kyoto. The famous Japanese woodblock prints known as ukiyo-e, or "pictures of the Floating World", had their origins in these districts and often depicted scenes of the Floating World itself such as geisha, kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers, samurai, chōnin and prostitutes.
The term is also an ironic allusion to the homophone "Sorrowful World" (憂き世), the earthly plane of death and rebirth from which Buddhists sought release. //

Brilliant band..saw them in 1988 at liverpool poly..must have been 15 people there..bizarre as incredible first album
Very underrated band ... like all of their music :)
I play this track the most, it makes me remember how insignificant we are
Yeah, this is one of those songs I have a love/hate relationship with.
One of rock's forgotten classics. Imagery as bleak as the lyrics. Nice work
Great Song, awesome Band, and another
outstanding Bob Clearmountain Mix
This is AWESOME!!!!!! I'm a huge King Swamp fan if you could make more videos of their songs, I like to share them on Facebook. Hell I'll even make requests :) Sacrement, Some Kind of Love, and Kiss the Sun.
that's very nicely done! Thanks for putting this up, more people should know about King Swamp, such a shame it only lasted 2 albums. I bought Walter Wray's last album from him off MySpace and he included a never released live album with it. Great album and a lovely fella!
Jason Farago article about Hokusai in the New Times (2020 Aug 7) "A picture of change for a world in constant motion" made me look for this song, one of my all time favorites as well. You did a beautiful job with the images. Thank you! PS, you might also like "David + David" Boomtown, 1986 -- this song always reminded me of that album. :D
Hey Red :) Once again you have broadened my music horizons...as you can see I have been checking out King Swamp...the tune you sent my way was okay but I needed to do further investigation into this, for me, unheard of group...I came upon this song that was much more my speed :) sorry...I'm a gramma!! Thanks again for the intro!!! Connie :)x
Wow, I have this on vinal, one of my favourites ever!
Fantastic overlooked band indeed!
To bad they quit after the two albums ('89 and '90). Would loved to hear more from them
One of my most favorite songs as well...was singing this song this morning and found your beautiful video...blessings.
Walter Wray made one solo album (that I know of) after King Swamp. Foxgloves and Steel strings. Well worth a listen.

Lenny left the bar
Tonight,
Now he's standing in
The freeway,
Shouting at the cars
Again,
Saying, "Hey, which
One of you's goin' my
Way?"
And Angie split her
Head open,
It was gravity that cut
Her,
No one stops to help
Her now,
It's a long way down
From the sidewalk to
The gutter.
And we glide
Through the Floating
World,
We are nothing,
Nothing more than
Shadows,
Slip and slide
Through the Floating
World,
And we hide our face,
And we hide our face
From tomorrow.
Well he bought a Smith
And Wesson,
He was really going to
Do it, he left a letter
For his mother,
Saying, "God I'm sorry
I put you through it,
But they give the
Money to the rich
Man
To make another man
His prisoner."
They found him drunk
In his bed the next day,
He had the barrel in
His mouth
But he couldn't pull the
Trigger.
And we glide
Through the Floating
World,
We are nothing,
Nothing more than
Shadows,
Slip and slide
Through the Floating
World,
And we hide our face,
And we hide our face
From tomorrow
