Honestly, in 2 different things I've seen RM say this is a 'song' about friendship and about them... ("Namjoonie recalled that when he was young, he would meet up with friends and frequented internet cafes. They were precious people to him. However, after his move to Seoul and became a Big Hit trainee, those memories began fading. "I wrote the song while thinking of my friends," he admitted. He added, “I wrote the song while at the Hangang Park in Yeouido..)... the mv however wasn't. (“It is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing,” Jin, the oldest member of the group, told Esquire.) RM has even said to interpret it how you want and left it at that. So, imo, that's what people need to do.. Music and lyrics mean so many different things to people, some can even relate to them from personal experiences and that's one of the reasons why I love BTS.
Jungkook was actually 13 when he joined (15 in the documentary because in Korea when you're born you're considered 1yo and everyone turns a year older when they welcome the new year) so he was very very young. RM -94 Jin- 92 Suga- 93 JHope- 94 Jimin- 95 V-95 JK- 97 BTS- 2013 🫰🏻💜
Your analysis and the difference between both your interpretations of the Spring Day MV is very eye opening. It made me realize that art is always there to make us feel or realise something based on our own experiences and cravings as a human being. We gravitate towards what will feed our mind and soul.
Omg wow! I love her interpretations!! Like of the pile of clothes being baggage that we all carry. It can sometimes seem overwhelming. So, when the members are all together on the pile it’s like they can see it and still be there for you! 🥰 And then later Roundhouse hits home when she says “Spring Day comes when you surround yourself with people who love and care about you” 🤯 Ugh, such good insight! 🙌💜
About males showing affection: in the United States and other Protestant-European cultures , displays of physical contact between same-sex friends has become sexualized in almost every context. This is simply not the norm in most of the rest of the world. Males showing affection is perfectly normal. Even hand holding is common in some places. Physical touching and sex are not permanently coupled in the minds of people in other parts of the world. It’s not that affection is a BTS thing. It’s not a K-pop thing. It’s not even a Korean thing. It’s that in OUR country it isn’t a thing, so we notice it when it shows up in other cultures. And because in OUR country all things in media are highly sexualized while at the same time our culture is highly repressed sexually, we want to assign reasons for this affection that make sense to us - which for many comes down to “They’re gay.” Now, this could very well be true. But it doesn’t explain the physical affection, because straight men are just as close to each other in SK and many other countries around the world. All that aside, there is another factor at play: smart marketing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrities being ambiguous about sexuality. Appealing to the most people and giving the widest audience an opportunity to enjoy the boyfriend fantasy is a VERY REAL AND VERY FUN aspect of fan culture. So why not blur the lines? It doesn’t hurt anyone (who is sane). There are a lot of guys in love with straight male celebs who can easily pass for gay, and plenty of women dreaming of naughty encounters with gay celebs who are very good at flirting with women. As long as fans know it’s all for fun, there is nothing wrong with it. Fans just need to understand when the celebrity object of their desire reveals themselves and it turns out the fan had it wrong 😊
So happy to see Roundhouse back again. The minute you told us about it I could not wait to see what she would see in this beautifully tragic video. She did not disappoint. I saw almost the same thing. That no matter how bad things seem there is always a spring day. However, you both are also correct, not everyone can be helped. Sometimes just having someone with you, even if they don’t truly understand how you feel is enough. At least you are not alone. Thank you Roscoe, and couch crew for always making us feel seen, loved, and not alone. 💜🫰🏻
BTS often use "spring" as a metaphor for "better days ahead" and she caught that immediately..well done! Spring Day is one of those BTS songs (like many others) where the lyrics of the song and the MV can have different meanings. RM said the lyrics were about missing friends you have lost touch with and reconnecting, whereas we have all seen the explanation videos of the MV which is about something totally different. They were age 13-18 in global age when the started. I agree, my perception of men being affectionate has completely changed since discovering BTS. At first I realized I was reacting to everything through my "western goggles". They are affectionate with each other in ways that would be (and is ) judged here. Roundhouse's theory about "dirty laundry" was actually a good one...I could see where she was coming from. Everyone takes something different from it. Art is subjective based on your life experiences. I am sure BTS would like us to relate their songs to our own life experiences despite what they were writing about. Thanks for reacting.
I love your reactions, and Roundhouse too. I aaaaalways want to know what they are saying, but I think that we all bring and take away our own things to any piece of art. It's just as valid to simply listen to the music and feel what you feel - if not, then how the hell can we - any of us - appreciate Beethoven or Elgar? I found Roscoe's initial reaction to this incredibly moving, and not at all "wrong" because the song IS about missing someone. I always feel ever-so-slightly uncomfortable when people don't differentiate between the song and the video, because the video is such a strong coded exploration of the Sewol .... well I can't make myself even call it "tragedy" because it could have been avoided or made better in so many ways all along the whole train of events. I suppose the right word is "scandal", but it took a while to come to me! The song itself speaks so strongly of that sense of loss when you miss someone so much that it is quite able to stand alone. I wonder if we will see Roundhouse's response to the "explanation", but that's entirely up to her. Thanks for sharing this with us today.
OMG, Roundhouse, I love you! You had almost the exact same reaction to this song as I did the first time. This is the song that made me an ARMY. It's THE song for me. Not being able to understand a word of the lyrics, I listened and heard the emotion put forth in this song. I watch the video for the first time and saw all of the visuals and felt it on such a deep level. This song made me fall in love with these 7 amazing men! Roscoe. Thank you for this video. I am so in my feels right now. 💜
I really loved how she had a completely different interpretation than you. And in my opinion that's how it should be. It would be a very boring world if we all thought the same. As for this song when I first heard it.. It gave me hope. I wasn't in a horrible place in my life but my brain was just clouded. They truly helped me realize better days will come and it can't always be winter.💜 Looking forward to more videos with the 2 of you!!💜💜
Most days, nowadays, Spring Day doesn't make me cry, i still always get a tightness in my throat but i don't generally cry anymore. Today was a day where it made me cry and i guess i needed it to. Thank you for your caring insight and your empathy towards each other, us, me, the song. I think sometimes, people are fixed on the written and forget the emotion, or they feel invalidated if your interpretation is not theirs. I don't know how to change that or if it can even be changed. To me always this song is emotion first. Thank you again i will say bye or i'll keep rambling on
the Queen is ART. i love listening to different interpretations of it. Namjoon is a genius. looking forward to more Roundhouse BTS reactions. thanks Captain!! 💜
Brilliant - and yes I was getting choked up too. Imagery is subjective and lyrics can be too. No right or wrong however BTS is the *master* of evoking deep reactions🤞💜🤞
They themselves said once that they look forward to the ARMYs interpretation of the MVs. You interpret it through your own experiences and that's the beauty of BTS. 💜
I was intrigued that Roscoe didn't put the captions on but I get his point since it's what we always say. Music transcends language. And it's a point proven once again.
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. I’ve dealt with depression for over 20 years and know those ups and downs. Roundhouse’s interpretation resonated so deeply with me.
That was an amazing way to look at it! Her interpretation of what the laundry piles meant was incredibly insightful! There’s so much to unpack from this video.
Thank you for sharing your emotions with us again.. In my opinion the beauty of bangtan is that their art always speaks to everyone through what they've lived through.. it's great to listen to other's interpretations or explaination but you can only appreciate it when you see yourself through the art.. thank you again.. we purple you Roundhouse.. thank you captain.. borahae 💜
Her interpretation made me cry bcoz its true we maybe with our fam n friends but still feels Alone. Thanks to BTS music its my comfort and healing. Thanks to u both for this reaction💜💜
Another brilliant and thoughtful interpretation from Roundhouse. She never fails to surprise me just how far beneath the surface imagery she delves when watching these mv's. I loved the dirty laundry analogy and I never thought of it that way before but it does actually make a lot of sense in the context of the video. Roundhouse if you are reading these comments, You rock! P.s. Fun fact - You'll Never Walk Alone is a song done by a merseyside band called Gerry and the Pacemakers and was adopted as a song of solidarity following Liverpool Football Clubs own "cold Winter" tragedy.
Yes, but the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" has a longer story. It comes from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Carousel". It is sung to comfort the protagonist when her husband after he dies tragically. It is reprised for the much later graduation of their daughter. It was later sung by various football (soccer) club's supporters. The after the success of the Gerry and the Pacemakers version it became a tradition for Liverpool F.C. Famous BBC1 DJ (and Liverpool supporter) John Peel played it when he became overwhelmed after the Hillsborough disaster which occurred when Liverpool fans were crushed to death during the 1989 FA Cup semi- final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The Sewol ferry disaster (which the Spring Day MV alludes too) occurred in the same week as the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and they both share many similarities. Some time later relatives of Hillsborough victims met relatives of Sewol victims.
Two of the reasons Spring Day is called "the Queen" are because 1) it has been on the charts in Korea since it first came out more than 6 years ago and 2) it often has a resurgence shortly after other BTS music is released - because Spring Day speaks to so many people so personally for so many reasons. Among other things, I think it speaks to the Korean concept of "han," which I haven't heard mentioned in a while. Han is a kind of underlying suffering of the Korean people which spans many personal and communal tragedies. The unofficial Korean national anthem, "Arirang," is overflowing with Han. A key "recent" tragedy is the separation of North from South which, like any such division, split families apart - many for decades during which they had no idea if their family members were alive or dead. I find it incredible that this ancient eastern civilization has survived the ages under pressure from three great superpowers (China, Russia, and Japan). Four, really, if you count the US. But that survival has come at a terrible cost. Spring Day and the stories behind it also embody Han, and resonate with anyone who misses someone, for any reason.
What a wonderful discussion of all the topics and feelings brought to mind by this song and music video! Thank you, Roscoe and Roundhouse. BTS would be very gratified to know their art was the springboard for all that you shared with us today. When I watch videos, I notice color, and consider what it might mean. I'd expect a song about loss to be rather colorless or dark. To me, the beautiful pinks, sky blues and sunny yellows say, "There is something good about sharing this song with you. The topic is sad, but the sharing is a beautiful dynamic between people."
Roscoe! Roundhouse! Great video.Your take on the carousel and mountain of laundry was so insightful! I really enjoyed having a peek into a conversation between friends about what each got from the art of the Spring Day mv. Nothing better than intelligent discussions about a piece of art said to the viewer/listener etc... As said, there is no right or wrong interpretation. Journey on...😍 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
In korea, men showing affection is called skinship and is very common and natural among friends. I'm in korea on holiday at the moment and you see it all the time, from children to teenagers to adult men
Thank you for having Roundhouse share her take on spring day 😊 💜. It's so refreshing to hear other people's reflections on it bec I believe that BTS's songs are open to a lot of different interpretations & I'd like to believe that they do not compartmentalize their MVs in a box even if they have a different message to convey since they also know that Armys hail from all over the world. Would love to see Roundhouse again 😊.
What a beautiful reaction! I got the same initial reaction to it as Roscoe did. I thought it was about suicide as well, and losing a close friend. When I watched the documentary about the ferry I cried like a baby. This song will always be the queen!
You are both right. You're aloud to feel shitty if something shitty happened to you. You can vent, cry, get angry... but don't live there. Learn from it and find a way to move from it. Reach out. From one Army to another. I Purple You!
Just my opinion, I don’t think BTS tells you what to think. They leave it to you and see what the song makes you feel. Let the song or MV speaks to you. When I first saw the MV I thought it was about missing friends and being together was the best part of their life. Also to come together and be strong together, you may not be able to do it or go through it alone. Also to celebrate and remember those that passed and that they were part of the memories of your life. 💜
First off, Cap, I have to commend you for being so strong in totally holding in the emotions (you know the background of Spring Day) while Roundhouse was viewing the mv. I was alone at home watching and still 😭 floodgates unleashed. It is sooo true that mvs (imo-moving visuals) are an art form. Like Joonie loves traditional art forms in museums, BTS art forms are their mvs. We are drawn to interpret them in meanings that apply/relate to our emotions/experiences in each chapter of our own journey. They never disappoint. "We are the authors of our book of life." Another winner❣️ Thank you both❣️💜💯💐🙏🏻😘
#adoptioncomplete #roundhouseisarmandcouchcrew I love Roundhouse's take on all of this! Amazing insights, fantastic attention to detail and wonderful interpretation! Love the perspectives and conversation 💜💜💜
Good job letting her watch this on her own and getting her first impressions that way. I too interpreted it as losing someone and missing them. It’s amazing to see the ferry incident interpretation because it certainly fits...but I think getting your gut reaction first is very important.
RM is a musical genius. The lyrics he writes have so many layers of meaning to them. There seems to be a surface meaning but when you dig deeper especially when he uses cultural images or expressions that I as an American just don't understand I'm glad there are Koreans who break the lyrics and images down for me. Spring Day was one of those videos that can be interpreted in different ways. Explanation of Spring Day by Italian Army and Spring Day explained by a Korean was both emotional and helpful. I cried and was extremely angry. You might benefit from these videos.
Roscoe, I really felt your reflection about having to sit with someone in Winter. I can't remember if you've seen RM's feature on a song called "Winter Flower" by Younha? The MV really reminded me of that.
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. So happy to see Roundhouse back again! =0] Jungkook was actually 13 when he joined BTS. Fifteen is the Korean age he debuted. Good discussion. I used to be a peer advocate in the mental health field. Worked 9 1/2 years as a peer. I deal with anxiety and depression and I like listening to others and sharing my story. I also have a strong need to heal family and friends. So i understand Roscoe in that a little. I hope Roundhouse gets to read the lyrics and see the explained vids. I love this song a lot. So much feels. Oh skinship in Korea is more affectionate yes. Even among among Korean girls its different than it is here in the USA. It's not everyone but with idols who are together for a long time and care for each other they become like family. Skinship is very much needed and shown. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟
Another great vid~ Super interesting conversation - the 25 minutes absolutely flew!! 👍🏻💜 I always watch a BTS vid for the first time without captions. I want to concentrate on what they’re trying to show me first, be moved and connect-some-dots myself~ Then the lyrics …Then again to get the full experience. 😅
This open physical affection holds true also among women. My culture's open affection regardless of age & gender is similar with SK and other Asian countries that I have observed similarities. So was very surprised when we moved to a Western country on the perspective of some who could not understand this non romantic expression.
Love you guys I need her to come back more than once a week!!! She is soooo good in interpreting this video even without caption! I actually tearing up watching this reaction!!! P.S. JK the youngest actually joined when he was around 13-14 yo (korean age is like 15 yo) and Jin was like 18-19 yo when he joined I believed...
Great video! 🥰You should've shown them the lyrics after before saying what your interpretation was and then seen if their interpretation changed after reading the lyrics and if they thought the same things you did when you first watched it:)
LaurieBrennanCreates said on 11/29/21 It's weird to wrap your head around in the beginning of discovering K-Pop regarding male to male affection in Korea compared to the west (at least it was for me). Men are more touchy feely with each other but homosexuality is not widely accepted. It's a strange dynamic. Some of what they do is considered "fanservice"...flirting with each other to get a reaction from the crowd. The kissing scene between V and J-Hope was a punishment on a series they were on (I think it was Rookie King). I can't count the number of times I have heard people assuming that BTS members are "gay" (because of this cultural difference) or "feminine" because of different beauty standards between the east and west. I personally love their dynamic and they have completely changed my perception of masculinity. It's kind of a shame that most western men can't express their love and friendship among themselves without feeling weird about it. Thanks for your reaction.
I see you did bring her straight into the deep end... anyway I noticed you play a bit with the audio because maybe a copyright reason? But if you ate having problems imo(in my opinion) it's because youtube do not like certain words being used in a video(in positive or negative way) "self deletion"(is one of the way to get around it if you know what I meant) is one of the big ones. Love what you doing keep it up 💜💜💜
Hey buddy. The sound issue was actually caused by a sound filter I used to amplify our voices a bit; apparently I forgot to detach that filter from the music too. Live and learn!
@@ThisRoscoe hey no prob here at all, and you probably already know this already, just be aware of using some sentive keywords too often on big social media may get you into trouble. I don't personlly agree with those rules myself but it's what it is right now. 💜
Technical question: does anyone else have the audio of the song completely... weird? Just me? Like completely decoupled music-vocals, and some members vocals super high, some super low?
Hi Lorena, that's my fault. I laid an audio filter over the top of the entire video to help isolate me and Mel's conversation so you could hear us better. I didn't realize it would be so problematic with the music.
@@ThisRoscoe oh no, please, I wouldn't describe it as problematic (only if you put that as a track in a CD I guess). Just... Weird 😅 Thanks for replying!! Have a nice Monday (it's a holiday here and I was catching up with stuff as I was away the whole weekend)
I agree with both of your views but I did not understand why you did not tell her what 90% of ARMYsaid . It was said but not said that this song is a reference of that tragic ferry boat disaster ,bts was not being political but they also did not want to keep quiet either . This song will forever be related to that unfortunate tragic incident.💜😔

Spring Day and the stories behind it also embody Han, and resonate with anyone who misses someone, for any reason.
Thought provoking and moving... thanks 🫂🫂💜💜💜
Her "laundry pile" analysis was SOOO GOOD and a new perspective to see this video now. Thanks Roundhouse! 💜🫂💜
We need more Roundhouse! Love her interpretation from a therapist perspective
Roscoe!
Journey on...😍
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
In korea, men showing affection is called skinship and is very common and natural among friends. I'm in korea on holiday at the moment and you see it all the time, from children to teenagers to adult men
Thank you for having Roundhouse share her take on spring day 😊 💜. It's so refreshing to hear other people's reflections on it bec I believe that BTS's songs are open to a lot of different interpretations & I'd like to believe that they do not compartmentalize their MVs in a box even if they have a different message to convey since they also know that Armys hail from all over the world. Would love to see Roundhouse again 😊.
There is no wrong answer but the deeper you entered the rabbit hole and someone’s thirst or curiosity gets quenched.
All the hearts. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was such an interesting reaction and take 💜
I stan a queen who stans a king who stans 7 men in cardboard form in his throne haha
Good job letting her watch this on her own and getting her first impressions that way. I too interpreted it as losing someone and missing them. It’s amazing to see the ferry incident interpretation because it certainly fits...but I think getting your gut reaction first is very important.
Oow the standees are multiplying
Art is subjective
This recording really spoke
To me !
My Lug (and roundhouse) I love
How “You Do You” and we get to be involved!💜
ThnksYous!🤟🏼
This video came at the perfect time for me. Thanks for putting this up! Such a great message!! Hope you both are having a great day!!
You might benefit from these videos.
this was so good!
Roscoe, I really felt your reflection about having to sit with someone in Winter. I can't remember if you've seen RM's feature on a song called "Winter Flower" by Younha? The MV really reminded me of that.
💜💛
I always watch a BTS vid for the first time without captions.
Love the discussion. Will you share the explanation with her?
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Great video! 🥰You should've shown them the lyrics after before saying what your interpretation was and then seen if their interpretation changed after reading the lyrics and if they thought the same things you did when you first watched it:)
I hope she is on again....next time react to The Last by Suga, Magic Shop by all of them, or House of Cards by vocal line.

It's weird to wrap your head around in the beginning of discovering K-Pop regarding male to male affection in Korea compared to the west (at least it was for me).
💜
Just... Weird 😅
Thanks for replying!!
