To get paint off of copper pipe I usually put a torch flame on it for a 5-10 seconds, which causes the paint to bubble, and then use Emory cloth (not sandpaper) which brings it back to a nice shine. Pliers work ok, but I’ve found that the flame method is the easiest. Sometimes you can’t get pliers all the way around the pipe. It works as long as there is nothing around the pipe that will burst into flames.

Great trick. I do that as well but use a old cleaning brush to remove the paint. I've had better luck that way.

@@ChuckBarron Violence only begets violence my Brother.Take my advice and dock his pay, trust me when I tell you that a hit in the wallet works wonders in correcting bad attitudes and non compliance.Start by docking $25.00 or $50.00 depending on the severity of the bad attitude and/or non compliance,if that doesn't rectify the bad attitude and/or non complinace increase the penalty by $25.00 or $50.00 increments and watch how bad attitudes and non compliance start to disappear as if by magic.Usually people have the "Well,I'll get paid anyway." mindset and that's what you need to address. If you make a person's attitude change from "Well,I'll get paid anyway." to "If I don't drop the attitude/don't listen I'm not getting paid." the person in question will have no choice but to rethink their attitude and non compliance.Money or lack thereof changes many things, including bad attitudes and/or non compliance.Good video,God and peace be with you and your loved ones my Brother.

Yellow flame on newly lit burner, most times, be caused by dust being burned up in the initial fire. Watch it for a few minutes without moving your body or any objects around, the yellow will go away gradually. Blow against the floor in the direction of the burner and the yellow will flare right back up, its just dust burning in the flame.

you can change the yellow flame by pissing around with the gas pressure. I have a combustion analyzer and I hardly use it more so cause I rarely do change outs, if you were to get it, it would probably be more handy for you. ive done a furnace where it is more efficient to run at a lower pressure than its preset 2.8"wc instead of 3.5"wc (older low boy) went from 60% efficient to 70%, pretty good for a 40 year old beast. if u only had a manometer I wouldn't go to crazy and keep it around 3,5" give or take.5 but you can only really see what you are doing with a combustion analyzer. steve lavs got a bunch of videos on using it, that's were I learned from. my testo 310 cost me about 900 Canadian a few years ago.
another under rated thing to check for is what kind of shit is in the basement. if you got a bunch of harsh chemicals down there leaking about, paint, jerry cans, other shit that would mix with the air and screw with your burn. I had a water heater call and went and checked it out, they had their cat litter box within 1ft of a fresh air sensor and when they never changed the litter the ammonia in the cat piss would eventually get bad enough to shutter down.

I've been in the trade 33 years, and you taught me the plier's on paint trick (many video's ago). I've always just scraped and sanded the crap out of the pipe all those years, or used a torch. One question though Chuck, why don't you use PVC on the relief valve pipe? I'll put back the old one if it's in good shape, but I never put back new copper, because of the cost these days. I understand it's an extra step, and more crap we have to bring in the house. CB2...you almost caved at the end, that's alright, we WILL get an enthusiastic ending out of you!

Brand new heaters have rust inhibitors and other coatings on their heating elements to keep them clean during storage. These burn off during first light, causing a yellow flame. The same thing happens with furnaces and sometimes the smoke detector goes off on first light because coating burns off the outside of the heat exchanger.

  • @brendanfisher2528
    @brendanfisher2528 5 лет назад +1

im a gas engineer from the uk...
a yellow flame is incomplete combustion and produces carbon monoxide NOT GOOD!
caused mostly by lack of air or oxygen
a blue flame is complete combustion and produces carbon dioxide and water vapour...
1 situation in the uk where we are allowed to leave a yellow flame and is safe, is caused if the home owner uses oxygen cylinders to help them breathe.. the cylinders supposedly give of something into the air which causes any blue flame to turn yellow..
if we had boiler (we only have combi boilers mostly in the uk) with a yellow flame it would be shut down and there gas supply to the property capped straight away!
with this been a new water heater though i guess its just crap on the burner and would soon sort itself out..

Engineers tend to be book smart not too much common sense. In real world there is dust and dirt. If you move at all near a gas appliances while in operation they will start to burn yellow because of ppm of dust particles you disturbed if you want to get all technical. But you engineers like to test everything in a lab or in your perfect world which does not exist. The air screens are directly on bottom of Bradford water heaters. They pull air from sides thru bottom. Also with all water heaters when started for 1st time tank is ice cold cause of water temp. When heated rapidly the tank sweats and condensation drips back on to burner that is why you see big yellow flame up. You can see and hear the drip on to the burner. I have installed hundreds of water heaters and they do this everytime.

In one of your videos you mention "stevie lav",I don't care for that guy at all because I saw the guy trying to ream a copper pipe with a flat head screw driver.I understand if there was nothing else to use to ream the copper pipe with in an emergency but GEEZZ!!!I'm sure the guy gets paid enough to be able to afford a dedicated pipe deburring and reaming tool, why use a flat head screw driver? Also he has that heavy and overly exaggerated "accent",hell,I was born and raised in NYC and I don't talk the way he and many other people do.I subscribed then I unsubscribed from the guy's youtube page because it seems the guy doesn't take well to criticism so screw him and his overly exaggerated "accent".That "stevie lav" guy also has the very bad habit of using an angle grinder without the grinder guard on the grinder yet he puts on rubber gloves,so the guy worries about getting germs on his hands but is not concerned about loosing a finger using an angle grinder without the grinder guard and I'm supposed to believe that the guy is a professional?I really don't think so.I saw one of that "stevie lav's" videos where he was literally beating the snot out of a copper elbow that was giving him a hard time going all the way onto the copper pipe he was working on and that's when I decided that I had to unsubscribe from that guy's youtube page. You can't go beating the snot out of coppper fittings because although copper is strong is can be easily deformed by being pounded on too hard/too much, what professional doesn't know that fact?I don't need to waste my time telling anybody anything,if so-called professionals think they can do a better job by losing a finger fuck them, that's their loss not mine.Idiots will continue to use angle grinders without the grinder guard on until one day they come up short of a finger and I'll still have all of my ten digits so why should I give a shit if they don't care about their safety?I tell people things out of concern,if they want to label me a pest so be it,but remember, after all is said and done it won't be me losing any fingers for using angle grinders or any other tools in a dangerous manner.

@@ChuckBarron Thank you my Brother.I will never lie to you or tell you anything that is not important. If I say something to you or to anyone it's because I care.God bless you and your family Chuck, you're a good honest man and it's an honor to know you and learn from you.True friends tell us what we need to hear even if it may not always be what we want to hear.

@@mikev.1034 You can say that again my Brother, the guy lacks any and all common sense, respect and tact.I saw one of his videos where he was replacing baseboard heaters and can you believe the guy didn't even bother trying to use any kind of heat shield, still using his angle grider without the grinder guard on it but he wears those surgical gloves and calls his shabby self a professional plumber. If that "lav" guy was any more stuck the hell up he'd have to open his mouth to be able to tell if the sun is out or not.A wise man learns from others while the foolish man strggles and suffers because of his hubris.
