I'm so glad he's embraced his own goofy Internet meme with such positivity and gratitude. He is an extraordinary and versatile singer, with an incredible back catalogue of music that is so much more than this one hit. And yet he sings it with his whole heart, and with real sincerity, every time. What a legend. I hope it's led a lot of new listeners to discover the rest of his work too.
It’s crazy how an internet joke relaunched his entire career in ways unimaginable even to him. The doors of opportunity came wide open for Rick. He’s even performed this song with the Foo Fighters as a surprise guest
Rick has such as HEALTHY voice. Most people don't realize that if you sing wrong for years with bad technique you can blow out your voice, but when you do it right it stays with you through the years. While it's been transposed down a hapf step, his voice is still amazing! 👏 👏
I’ve worked with Rick on a charity gala; he sang this twice. Once with tracks and once with his band. With the track he sang it in original key absolutely fine, no issues. It was an isolated performance in the day, whereas he played a full set with his band in the evening and took it down a semitone. Either way, his voice is in remarkable shape!
I’ve been to many RUSH concerts over the years, and theee weee a few songs they did that were tuned down a whole step so that Geddy Lee could sing them. His voice really took a beating over the years
@@chuckshartz2722 I’d argue that Rush performed a hell lot more shows. Gotta give Ged much respect for performing at such a high level all those years!
Rick let me know personally he was never gonna give me up! I have a lot of artists actually play to my camera! Even though it’s slightly lower than the original key, it almost feels like he’s singing in the next higher octave. Very mellow, and doesn’t seem as forced as the original recording, which kind of had that Michael McDonald vibe.
People have always given Rick Astley a hard time, but he never claimed to be Mario Lanza. He makes fun music for people to dance to, and he seems like a really cool guy. I'd love to see him in concert.
I smiled the entire time. This song always takes me back to being a carefree little kid, swinging on the playground and doing gymnastics on my parents' couch.

It's crazy how a song can be more popular 35 years later than when it came out because it was a joke but the joke made us realize the guy is actually pretty cool, and it's catchy and not that bad.
