The fact that Chile was a poor spanish colony with no real use made it so spanish bureacracy and extrative institutions weren't implemented at the same extent and intensity as in Peru or Bolivia. THAT made Chile a more efficient nation with a less restrictive state and managing political stability while Bolivia had queue after queue.
Not really, the country was still very poor until CIA man came around and liberalized the economy, chile and uruguay are the most developed countries innthe continent, they are also the ones with the most free economies
I know its not a popular opinion, but if the rest of the continent dictators had been like pinochet, the region would probably not be as impoverished
Uruguay, Costa Rica and Chile are the countries in which Spain got involved the least and now are the richest of Latin America per capita.
ypu mean coup right?
@@joseaca1010 one of the dictatorships in argentina was the reason the country went to hell, so there is some exceptions to that
@@fencino oh dont get me wrong, im not saying dictatorships are inherently good, on the contrary, almost all of them are bad, however almost every single country in the region had a dictatorship in the 60s and 70s, if they had implemented free market policies and the democratic leaders who took the place of those dictators had kept em in clase, as it happened in chile, the entire continent would be living much better today

I only know Chile as the long country on the map with a German military tradition and the Easter Island and because of the military dictatorship with Pinochet And the plane misfortune where the passengers became cannibalists. I wanted to see Chile anyway. Beautiful country. Greetings From Germany 🇩🇪🍻🇨🇱
I just want to add that the Chilean government gave a lot of land to german immigrants in order to colonize the south of the country, there's a lot of people with German heritage over there and they also incorporated some popular German desserts to the country gastronomy such as kuchen and the berliner pfannkuchen
Love from Chile
I think that the plane accident you are thinking is from uruguay, but greetings from Chile to you!
Go to argentina and see the fuhrer himself
Chile has a big German tradition . It was a state policy to bring German immigrants. So a lott of Chilean population is from German descent. And it's show in our culture. For example there are a lot of German schools in Chile . I went to a German school here..
As a fun fact, Chile was known as the American Prussia due his prussification of it's army. They even use Pickelhaube
Thats not fun, thats awesome and gorgeus.

@@Pilar.1402 It's a joke.
Genius what a gem liked before it goes viral
Chile was actually longer, when it controlled the Tacna department for around 50 years after the war of the pacific until 1929 when it was returned to Perú by a referendum
When Chile held Lima it was longer, that's where we get "Los Leones" that are in Los leones Av. or I think in Inés de Suárez.
Lima was occupied during war, which is different to what happened to Tacna which was annexed for 50 years. And also it wasn't contiguous occupation as Lima was occupied through an amphibian landing
As a ariquean, i can confirm
Unfortunatelly, despite the refferendum being the original plan, it was never implemented. The refferendum was supposed to be held in the department called "arica y tacna", but in the end, chile and peru decided to just partition it. Nowadays tacna is part of peru and chile has arica y parinacota.
Arica debe volver al Perú. Que se largen los chilenos.
1:28 Bernardo O'Higgins was Chilean. His parents were Rosa Riquelme, a Chilean, and Ambrose O'Higgins, an Irishman who for some reason served in the Spanish army and became Governor of Chile and later Viceroy of Peru.
By the way, writing "O'Higgins" is a big challenge in second grade.
2:00 "Fat Chile" is a posteriori invention. In fact, the first Constitutions of Chile indicated that the territory extended "to the Province of Chiloé" (way northwest). The possession of Eastern Patagonia was a mere project that was not carried out because the Argentines came before to massacre the Tehuelches, who were the true owners of the territory, while the Chileans did the same with the Mapuches.
3:50 "LOL what a joke" is literally true. Many of us enjoy tremors as long as stuff don't start to fall to the ground. Then we get upset because we have to pick the things up - in the 2010 earthquake I threw away a lot of ornaments that did not break, but that I hated, hahahaha-. The "I guess I'm going to die" stage doesn't necessarily happen; in the 8.8 earthquake of 2010 most of us were calm, and even in the 9.5 of 1960 not everyone panicked.
Normally the word "earthquake" has been reserved for shakes of more than 7.0, but in recent years it is rarely used if it does not reach 8.0.
If you are among the few who are scared by tremors, your friends will bully you by shaking your chair at school (or even at university).
The Tehuelche and Mapuche land was fairly conquered
Idk guys but if I were you and people say you are a kid ill just show this and say “now who is the kid now?”

"Chile did not, however, depend as heavily on agriculture and mining as did many Latin American countries, but rather developed an economy based on manufacturing as well. Thus, Chile has become one of the more urbanized Latin American societies, with a burgeoning middle class. Chile has also had a history of retaining representative democratic government. Except for a military junta that held power from September 1973 to March 1990, the country has been relatively free of the coups and constitutional suspensions common to many of its neighbours."
- Encyclopedia Britannica
That is true, for example, the Chilean congress operates uninterruptedly from 1828 to 1973. In addition, the 1973 coup was organized from the United States by the CIA, since Chile has always solved its problems democratically, in fact Pinochet he left power in 1990 for losing a plebiscite called by him.

A few things you could've mentioned: chile gave up the patagonia to argentina bc he didn't want to fight a two front war in the saltpetter war, so it gave up the good and usefull part to argentina so it had no reason to enter the war; chile is making up a new constitution but the ones making it are people democratically voted (and yes, all of them); might go adding more stuff to this comment with time.
False:
1.- Chile did not give Patagonia to Argentina because today Chile has Patagonia.
2.- Chile today does not have enough population to populate even 20% of the current territory with 20 million and how could it inhabit triple the territory 140 years ago with only 2 million inhabitants?
3.- Chile and Argentina agreed to divide Patagonia into parts according to the amount of population, and Argentina was always larger because it was a viceroyalty and was very rich.
4.- If Argentina dared to invade Chile in the Pacific War, it was exposed to Chile sending its armored fleet (the most powerful in America) to destroy Argentina's small wooden fleet and bomb Buenos Aires and destroy it completely and then invade Argentina wherever he wanted.
5.- Chile had a state policy that consisted of dominating the entire Pacific (South Pacific of South America) and Argentina had the desire to be a bi-oceanic country. Therefore, Chile did not give up or lose anything at all, and it was Argentina that gave up its Pacific Ocean to Chile.
6.- The state policy that Chile had is called "PORTALES DOCTRINE" and the Argentine aspiration was called "BI-OCEAN PRINCIPLE". Look for them and you will see which of them prevailed.
7.- The Pacific war was 3 against 1, Chile vs. Bolivia, Peru and Argentina. The three lost the Pacific but Argentina was the one that lost the most because it did not even get a right to use the port.

As a chilean guy,I think the video is quite neat, yet I have to say 2 things:
-Chile gave the eastern side of the patagonia to Argentina because of the pacific war, knowing they could be invaded by Argentina trough the south and be on even more of a trouble(having already a lot of problems on the northern side). Also at the time that region was seen as more of a burden.
-Yes,chile didn`t had as many inmigrants in the past as Argentina due to location8and industry),but there are still some pretty important migrant comunnities on the past:German colonizers on the south(brung upon by hte goverment on an attempt of ""pacifying"" the wilder, more indigenous dense southern regions, which has sadly scalated on racial tensions between the Mapuche and the descendents of these germans).British merchant on different cities, because of chile being the ideal middle point between Europe and Oceania before the Panama channel as well as being a place with lots of mineral wealth post pacific war(Chile is actually the country with the highest percentage of british ancestry that wasn`t a former colony of the UK).Croatian craftmen and merchants on the very far south(the richest family of the nation, the Luksic clan,is of croatian descent,as well as the most popular candidate of the chilean presidential elections of 2021).And last but not least,Palestinians of different professions(but being small merchants on the most part),being Chile the country outside of the arab world with the biggest palestinian community. This process hasn`t dissapeared, but atually increased, being most modern migrants of the American Continent. The most predominant of these are the Peruvian,Venezuelan,Colombian and Haitian migrants.

Tbh, the south Pacific water is really cold haha
do we? We have cold waters tho... I'd kill to have some of that lukewarm atlantic ocean water
idk maybe why chile is the longest country is because it broke up from spain and chile has war on bolivia in late 19th century, bolivia lost the war, and chile is the longest country in the world
Brazil is a bit longer than chile, making chile only the 2nd longest country in the world.
Because of the mountains
will chile became longer or not
Fun fact, Bolivia practically dragged Peru into the war but then they left them before it ended.
Bolivia is kinda salty about its former coast
But at least they have the highest dry salt lake in the world and when you get there it's like a giant mirror when you look at the horizon.
Only the dip shit leaders in the government and the indigenous population. The ones that live in the East in the lower areas could care less.
Chile is so long that you have a 50% chance to meet them when you go into west or east
As a Chilean person, i can actually confirm that our form of talking spanish is way more stranger than the others forms of Spanish in South America. Also yeah, we experience a lot of earthquakes in a year, so an earthquake below 7 Richter is pretty much a joke for us XD. If u still don't believe me, puedo hablar español y q wea loco rica la monster wn (yes, we do speak like that a lot when we're with friends or so).
2:47 The argentinian dictator said that if they won, they would invade Chile, so not many options to take
3:49 Tbh the 6.5-7.5 it's "Strong but not cataclysmic, only hold the TV" and after that is "Guess i Will die
Fun fact Chile controlled and the coast of Peru but then Peru got it back
Yeah that was during the Pacific War of 1879-1883, we even occupied Lima for a couple of years
The texas flag looks like Chile Flag, the Actual Chile Flag, was created before Texas Flag, but they are not copies, there was only inspiration, so, if there is a Chilean reading my comment, Weon, somos Chile y tenemos la Ñ
Heheh
I am in support of extra long Chile. You have my vote.

In Chile no one moves on an earthquake unless it's 7 and above
chile is my favorite meme country, i cannot think of many countrys like it, but i think poland, vietnam and canada and vietnam would be second, and third would be america, balkans region and... hmm... maybe brail or latvia? runnin low on options. maybe third are theose russian lands next to lithuania, former prussia
Also Chileans speak Very Very different Spanish.

For the people who don't know, the reason Chile left oriental patagonia to Argentina was because Argentina was going to join the war of the pacific, so to evade this, they let Argentina take the oriental part
Chileans pay them with the same coin on the Falkland war
Bye ✌
@@PP.Antartico-Chile small correction, brazil had the biggest and strongest navy in america (even tho usa would probably rise its navy in a state of war more efficiently due to its superior industrial power). Brazil pretty much dominated the south american atlantic, so chile had the strongest navy in the pacific ocean, but not in south america. ofc it depends on which decade we're talking about, because after 1889 the brazilian navy largely decreased its power (they were against the republicans)
@@yeehaw-q6n NO, el poder de un país no se mide por la cantidad de armamento, se mide por la fortaleza del Estado, brasil es un estado fallido por 200 años y lo seguirá siendo por el resto de este siglo.
@@PP.Antartico-Chile wrong lol, if this was true then china would be stronger than usa, because the state is stronger than the usa state, you clearly don't know what are you saying. brazil is not a developed country, but it will always be the strongest country in south america, the most rich country, and the most influential. anyways, how could you even say brazil is a broken state while it is literally the BIGGEST ECONOMY of latin america? honestly I don't know why you guys from spanish america keep denying the brazilian superiority over the continent, just accept it lmao, we've already recognized your place as the most developed country, now its your turn to recognize brazil as the strongest country.
