  • For this woodworking project, I made a roll-out kitchen pantry for my wife as a gift and decided to make it look fancy for her. I added some simple metalwork to protect the corners and did some rustic scrollwork on the shelves and frame with a Molotow paint pen.

    I am going to need a cabinet like this beside my fridge. I've seen articles but this is the best build to go by. Thank you!

    I jumped ahead to see what the build was. And even though my project will be different, namely a slim pull-out sitting on top of the countertop, I had to watch this. Dude, you have the hands of an artist. "I added some simple metalwork..." is the understatement of the day. Fascinating to watch you fabricate those corners. Well-done!

      Wow! Thanks for the amazing praise! I'm glad you found this helpful. I do more metalwork than carpentry, so I just wanted to throw in a bit of metal to finish it off ;)

      Thanks! Little rough in spots, but I'm more used to working with metal right now. At least it was good practice for some basic woodworking :)

    What a gorgeous shelf! Puts mine to shame , lol I was sent this link because I was having questions about securing my shelf to the wall! So thank you for sharing how you did yours.

      Thanks! I'm sure there's other ways to fasten it to the wall as well, but this worked for our setup. Thanks for letting me know how you came across the video, I appreciate the interest. 😁👍

    Wow, that's really beautiful, I love the smile on your wife's face as she rolled it out. Those decorative corner pieces are something else! I'm planning to build one for my kitchen, just basic nothing fancy like yours, and I've been watching RUclips videos for ideas. I like the metal brackets you used to support the shelves. Can you please tell me what they're called? It's hard when you're a woman and you go to the hardware store, and you know what you want, but you don't know what it's called, and you're trying to describe this "metal thingy" and they look at you like "Oh brother!" I checked the Home Depot website, and searched for "metal shelf bracket", and "L bracket" and the pages of results look nothing like what you used. Thanks for this really detailed demo of your process, much appreciated.

      Glad you like it! I'm no woodworker, but I'm happy with how it turned out (and so is my wife!).
      I believe the parts you're looking for are called "ties". If you do a quick search on the Home Depot website for "angle tie" some options should hopefully come up.
      Good luck with your project!

    Fun fact you can tell he is Canadian by the screws he is using lol.
    I only learned it was a canada thing recently to use the square ones. I thought it was universal 🤷‍♀️

    How about a picture first of what you're making?
    What kind of wood are you using?

    • @MAKE__IT
      @MAKE__IT  3 года назад

      Poplar for the outer frame, and pine for the bases of the shelves. The outer "rails" of the shelves are also poplar.
      This build could be done completely with pine if you want it to be more budget friendly, but I chose poplar for the outer frame to increase the durability a little bit.

    How wide is that?, I have 5 inches to work with🤔

    • @MAKE__IT
      @MAKE__IT  3 года назад

      The width of this unit is 5 inches and the opening I had to work with was between 6 and 7 inches (depending where the opening is measured from... Crooked floors and walls in my house lol). So if you have a 5 inch opening, 4 inches should do the trick. I'd just be sure to have the safety rail installed so that it stops it from tipping over). Good luck and have fun building it! 👍

    What size for the poplar did you use

    • @MAKE__IT
      @MAKE__IT  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Thanks for the interest! I used 6' x 4.5" x 3/4" Poplar boards for the outer frame. You could use the same material to make the shelves, but I used Pine because it's a cheaper wood.

    You would have better luck with your drilling if you slowed the RPM. Your burning your way through as much as cutting.

      Yep, it was my first time working with poplar, didn't realize it would do that. Live and learn.
