- A really bad audition actually led Matthew McConaughey to his breakthrough role as Jake Brigance in 1996’s ‘A Time to Kill.’ McConaughey reflects on the series of events that took him from a relative nobody to a star. Plus, he recalls the impact of his father’s death, just five days after he started filming ‘Dazed and Confused’ and the two thoughts he has when he finishes any film.

Not only is Matthew a prolifically smart man, but this brother's got virtues that are rare in Hollywood.
I think he’s a very honest man. God fearing. We gotta take notes folks lol
He is a good old Texas boy!
True that I like to look at shaq and Steve Harvey that way
I am in the middle of his book Greenlights, and really love it. Matthew is a unique storyteller and person
If you have the opportunity to hear the audio book even better! He's the narrator
Just finished it, incredible book, he has a great perspective on life
He was wonderful in A Time to Kill. that movie was heart wrenching
His so cool, honest and interesting. Fantastic interview. His seems like a truly nice man.
Good interviewer. Lets the guest talk. He knows its not about him.
A Time To Kill was bad ass. Completely forgot about this movie.
I wish he would have said “all right, all right, all right!”. I love it when he says that.
MM truly a solid individual and a man have a ton of respect for.
LOL at Grahams bookshelf backdrop
Wow! Great story.
There are several REALLY impressive 180 degrees changes in actor’s careers. Actors that reinvented themselves because they had to due to age, or a string of bad movies… and MM has done one of the best. I would put Downey Jr ahead, and then MM. From a rich punch line (think of the line in Thank You For Not Smoking - “MM gave it to him (the producer), before X, MM was a face, X made him a name.” Then he did True Detectives, and i felt that another whole dimension opened up. He could always act, but that is never the trick for 180s this big.
What a story!
Such a cool guy 😀🇯🇲🤙
It’s all about shining when you get a chance!!!
Great interview. Matthew is a cool cat..
Thanks Nick! Glad you enjoyed it. -AD
