Explosive Missouri Supercells & Lightning - 6/30/2023

During the late afternoon and evening of June 30, 2023, explosive thunderstorm initiation occurred along a stationary boundary in Kansas and Missouri. A cluster of towering cumulus in Missouri east of Kansas City organized into a mountainous supercell with 61,000 ft tops, amazing structure, and up to 3.5-inch hail after giving off a split supercell to the north. More storms would approach and flare up after sunset, producing vivid lightning.

@@MesoscaleMikeyChasing 😳 Definitely the high end scale! I'm from the UK and I too have noticed the structural appearances in our storms have changed. We get anvil tops with the knuckles appearance.

@@Agui007 interesting! I was out there during the hot Europe summer of 2018. I saw multiple thunderstorms including one that looked strong to severe and produced small hail. It had a pitch-black cloud base and slightly green core, but was actually pretty compact and low topped.
