I personally think Dave the Barbarian is mediocre-at-best. And I'm saying that after rewatching all the episodes very recently. Call me biased, but I have serious problems with shows having status quos, nothing ever changing. Yes, this does also mean I can't stand a lot of other famous animated shows. For some reason, writers thinks that if it's a comedy it's excused from having character development and a story to tell without going back to square 1 at the end of each episode. But to me, it doesn't. To me personally, I think it's just poor writing. If you only want humor in it without any story or development or changes, then why not just make sketch-shows like Monty Python? Don't get me wrong, I respect people for loving this show - clearly, a lot of people do. I just don't get why it's so praised when it's another case of a show suffering from the "status quo" thing. But then again, Simpsons and South Park and Family Guy would have never gotten popular if there wasn't an audience for status quos. But I stand by what I said - it's a sign of being a poor lazy writer to have that.
Ned also has the same voice as Zim from Invader Zim. You may hear Billy... but whenever Ned started talking about taking over as ruler... guess who I heard?
You laugh at it because the irony is that it is referencing super hero origins. The radioactive mantis thing was a nod to Spiderman, and that Norse god hammer is a nod to Thor. Don't know about the others but that's the idea I think. Him saying that it 'hardly ever happens' is funny because this is pretty much how most super hero stories go, except it is made MORE ironic that he is using the enchanted zipper for evil.
***** I think the humor comes more from the fact that the zipper has SEVERAL fantastic things happen to it simultaneously, and ironically Ned's only reaction after all that is "...That hardly ever happens." As if the entire event didn't even phase him!
I loved watching this show as a kid and it saddens me that it doesn't get all the attention that it deserves. Also, for some reason the horse's voice reminds me of Christopher Walken.
Dave the Barbarian is what Fairly Odd Parents think they are. (New FOP. Not old!) Dave the Barbarian was and is one of my favorite cartoons ever. DTB is actually where I got a large amount of my own humor from. Thank god.
While not one of the prettiest shows, it was still enjoyable. I remember an episode in which the main villain (a pig sorcerer) took control of the narrator to make the show turn in his favor, but the narrator later gets laryngitis so they had to cast a new narrator. Man, this show was creative.
There was an entire episode focusing on a "cursed" village. Turns out the robbers who attacked it are invisible, so our heroes make themselves invisible in order to see them. It made no sense, but it was funny as hell!
With Disney shows we have nowadays like Gravity Falls, Wander over Yonder, Star vs the Forces of Evil and others, I think Disney XD may have some room for Dave.
Ned Frichman (Dave the Barbarian) Billy and his dad (Billy and Mandy) Dag (angry beavers) Grey Matter (Ben 10) Zim (Invader Zim) Kaos (Skylanders games) Alpha 5 (power rangers) Razputin Aquato (Psychonauts) are all voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz
You first thought Billy, I first thought Zim. Two amazing and kind of edgy kid shows full of both scary and disgusting moments that have you cringe but not... appalled by the show itself.
Jacob Hill I was doing a joke about how walken doing an impression of himself would be so over the top monotone he would sound like stephen hawking's machine
One of the reasons you are one of my favorite reviewers is because you review shows that are highly underated. Plus I love your animated atrocities. Dave the Barbarian needs more love.
We didn't have cable when I was a kid, but I remember going to babysit the neighbor's kid and watching TV with them and seeing this episode. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen up until that point
I used to watch Dave the Barbarian a ton when I was the kid, and this episode is the one I remember most, which is pretty funny considering Richard Horvitz ended up being my favorite voice actor(and that this was the specific episode that got reviewed).
I remember this show rather fondly back when it came out, and I'm very glad to see people talking about it again! I also really liked its theme song too, to the point that it starts playing in my head whenever I hear a title like _____ the Barbarian (for example Conan the Barbarian).
This show was a MAJOR component in my childhood, as well as everyone else............................ I hope that it comes back, and I gotta watch more episodes of this show....... For Nostalgic pruposes
Oh, I miss this show so much. It was hilarious. And I've never been able to look at Ped Xing signs the same way since (please tell me someone else gets that!).
I remember when I was a kid I used to watch this show with my brother all the time, and I loved it. Re-watching the episodes again was great, too, because the comedy still hits home.
The fact that Brandy and Mr. Whiskers got a second season and this didn't is a sin against humanity. Hopefully with all the cartoons gaining more populairty than the tweencoms on Disney Channel, this makes a comback soon. Still remember the episode where The Dark Lord Chuckles the Silly Piggy took over the show (quite possibly one of the finest 4th wall demolitions *EVER*)!
Oh Dave the Barbarian, this was one of two Disney shows that only lasted for one season but still enjoyed as if they aired for many years the other being Nightmare Ned.
OMG! I Loved Dave the Barbarian :D But I can't even remember what the show was about ;p This made me cry... thank you so much for bringing me my childhood back ^^
Dave the Barbarian was a very entertaining show. I liked the humor, the characters, the episodes; it was just a good cartoon. I guess it could be considered a very underrated cartoon and should get a little more recognition.
>Just about to ask you if you will do an admirable animation/animated atrocity about Futurama later >Looks next admirable animation >Not sure if cry of happiness or sadness
OH FUUUUDGE DAVE THE BARBARIAN!!!!! I remember this show! :D My brother and I used to watch it constantly, and we loved it. And it has only one season?! It needs to be brought back.
1. I absolutely LOVED Dave the Barbarian. It was one of my favorite animated shows. 2. When you said "where have I heard that voice before?" (something like that) I instantly thought Invader Zim.
Also, voiced by Jeff Bennett. Who also voiced Johnny Bravo, Prowl (Transformers), Brooklyn (Gargoyles), Ghostfreak (Ben 10 Ultimate Aliens) and various western cartoons. Joker, Red Tornado and the Creep he voiced by Jeff Bennett too.
This was one of those shows that my dad and I watched all the time. We still talk about it to this day, although our conversations are now about how much we miss it... maybe they'll bring it back one day, and everyone knows they should
You should review more Dave The Barbarian, it was such a good show. It was clever enough my dad would laugh a it, and he was the sort of guy who'd consider cartoons some lesser thing for children.
ܣܗܕܐ ܝܘܢܢ Like spongebob... Like DBZ GT... Heck it doesn't even have to be TV. 90% of things that keep going even after the original writers can't make them, and they're hand me downed go downhill Spyro the dragon... Crash bandicoot... Need I say more? o_O'

Much props for reviewing this. Dave the Barbarian was an extremely high quality, underrated show from a generally crappy point (2003-2009/2010) in American television animation. Also, this episode is a legitimate satire on capitalism. In a "kid's show". Wut?
If the rumors are indeed true, I'd say although it saddens me, we're all better off this way. It had a solid running up to season 4, but after that it just ran out of gas, and the creators have just been digging their own grave ever since. They did everything they CAN do with Spongebob and when they ran out of ideas they started making artificial conflicts and derailing characters for the sake of originality. I hate watching this show suffer despite how good it once was. I think it's high time Nick pulled the plug.
Just found your channel and been going through stuff. Love it so far. That clip from Billy & Mandy made me wonder though. Have you reviewed any episodes of that good or bad? Cause that would be awesome!
"If you don't wanna stay up until 3 AM to watch it on Toon Disney" This review came out in 2014. Toon Disney shut down and was converted to Disney XD in 2009.
I love the seen with Candy's horse where he starts talking about his disturbing nightmares and the look on her face right before. That horse (Twinkle the Marvel Horse) is the most neurotic character of the whole show.
"I'll never achieve my ultimate goal in life."
"DESTROY US ALL"
Im dying
Ins't he the same guy who voiced Zim too? Sounds similar.
Yep
Stoovan Chaos from Skylanders.
And Dagget
Dave the Barbarian is one of the most criminally underrated shows of all time.
We need to support it because it desperately needs a second season.
Bluemagus god, i loved that show
I agree with you, Equius :P
One... season... this show got one... season?! What the hell?! Why did THIS ONLY GET ONE SEASON?! It deserved AT THE VERY LEAST three seasons!
If you think that's underrated then you should see "commander cork" by mike bell.
I love how Ned declares his "ultimate goal in life". "EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH!"
Gotta start somewhere, I guess.
U get extra in your check and sometimes a sweet parking spot.
"Thinking quickly, Dave constructed a megaphone using a squirrel, some string, and a megaphone!"
"Time to cut a muffin!" "That sounds dirty for some reason..."
Ned also has the same voice as Zim from Invader Zim. You may hear Billy... but whenever Ned started talking about taking over as ruler... guess who I heard?
judging by your picture of gir from invader zim, I will say...... MICKEY MOUSE!
Sammy Peterson
R u a wizard?
yes
Sammy Peterson
*GASPS!!!*
YOUR FAVOURITE COLOR IS TRIANGLE!
This show is much better than I remember it. It's like... reverse nostalgia? Or something?
"Wow, that hardly ever happens." I don't know why, but everytime I hear that line I can't help but laugh. XD
Thanks, captain Obvious, for having enlightened my day.
Ryoga Hibiki You are most welcome.
Can I have a high five from you?
High what?
***** I think the humor comes more from the fact that the zipper has SEVERAL fantastic things happen to it simultaneously, and ironically Ned's only reaction after all that is "...That hardly ever happens." As if the entire event didn't even phase him!
Dave Barbarian should replace Teen Titan Go.
Who's with me!?
***** YES! DISNEY MAKE IT HAPPEN!
teamrandom21 I like Phineas and Ferb, Dave the Barbarian should at least replace one of Disney's dozens of shitty-ass sitcoms
spikeharusame Crash and berstein should be replaced by DTB. Fuck that show, crash and bernstein deserves hell.
Unmuted Guy Yes, or Kickin' it, which, I am ashamed to say that my nephew actually LIKES but he's only 6 so I'll let it pass
spikeharusame Or that lab rats shit
I loved watching this show as a kid and it saddens me that it doesn't get all the attention that it deserves. Also, for some reason the horse's voice reminds me of Christopher Walken.
That's because it's suppose to be. And Jeff Bennett did an amazing job with it too.
Dave the Barbarian is what Fairly Odd Parents think they are. (New FOP. Not old!)
Dave the Barbarian was and is one of my favorite cartoons ever. DTB is actually where I got a large amount of my own humor from. Thank god.
Joponyhere
Coincidentally, both Dave the Barbarian & Fairly Odd Parents look alike in terms of animation!
Ivan Simpson I've always thought that since I was younger! :D
Ivan Simpson Except Dave has thinner lines than Butch Hartman's shows.
The tragic irony. No thumbs...
With Disney shows we have nowadays like Gravity Falls, Wander over Yonder, Star vs the Forces of Evil and others, I think Disney XD may have some room for Dave.
Gravity falls is great
+Cookiebud Films I KNOW MAN I KNOW ;-;
And now Wander Over Yonder is being cancelled. The show won an Annie award, the crew planned out a third season, and the show is being cancelled.
Well, Gravity Falls was the creator's decision, not the studio, they even tried really hard to change his mind.
No excuse for Wander over Yonder tho.
masterxehanort3 Wander ended on a good note, anyway
Ned Frichman (Dave the Barbarian)
Billy and his dad (Billy and Mandy)
Dag (angry beavers)
Grey Matter (Ben 10)
Zim (Invader Zim)
Kaos (Skylanders games)
Alpha 5 (power rangers)
Razputin Aquato (Psychonauts)
are all voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz
Is that pony played by christopher walken?
lol no it's Jeff Bennett
+Tia Blue damn good impression, though
+Harry S. Plinkett I KNOW! It sounds like walken!
Yeah. I was thinking that, too. That is a good impression.
are you sure that's Billy? Ned sounds more like Invander Zim to me
It's both.
ahs ok :)
TheMysteriousMrEnter would you be able to help me out with something?
Kraig Spinale I was thinking invader zim too, but thats cool how billy and zim have the same voice actor.
TheMysteriousMrEnter Hey why don't you do something "meh"?
This video is awesome. Dave the Barbarian was my favorite Disney cartoon back in the early 2000's!
Dave's voice is familiar...Is that Jack Spicer!?
unova1995 yup
Yep.^^
You hear this guy's voice and immediately think of Billy? I immediately thought of Zim, and I've never even watched Invader Zim!
You first thought Billy, I first thought Zim.
Two amazing and kind of edgy kid shows full of both scary and disgusting moments that have you cringe but not... appalled by the show itself.
2:55 By 'unspeakable atrocities', he means One Course Meal.
I thought he meant Tentacolino
Or Seahorse Seashell Party.
Ellie Meier Or Teen Titans Go.
lexie jones Or Demolition Doofus. We could sit for hours doing this. XD
Ellie Meier That we could milady. That we could.
Ned's VA is awesome. Him and Patrick Warburton really shine in Skylanders as Kaos and Flynn.
Dj Quinn Patrick Warburton's in Skylanders?
Good Lord, that pony was my favorite character.
***** It cuz you have no thumbs. lol
I loved Dave the Barbarian growing up!
Was that horse voiced by Christopher Walken?!
I think its someone doing a Walken impression
Jacob Hill Christopher Walken doing a Christopher Walken impression?
Un-Possible Magician You mean stephen hawking?
NeutralGuyDoubleZero Ummm...Stephen Hawking can't talk. He uses a machine to talk.
Jacob Hill I was doing a joke about how walken doing an impression of himself would be so over the top monotone he would sound like stephen hawking's machine
This was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up, This cartoon will always have a special place in my heart.
The Narrator sounds like Johnny Bravo.
Well, they're both voiced by Jeff Bennett, after all. Also, Jeff does a pretty good Christopher Walken impression as Candy's pony.
Yeah I checked after I was just surprised I remembered his voice.
Ivan Simpson so true
I always recognize it as dexter's dad's voice!
Roy From Melee we.
One of the reasons you are one of my favorite reviewers is because you review shows that are highly underated. Plus I love your animated atrocities.
Dave the Barbarian needs more love.
Richard Horvitz is one of my favorite hammiest voice actors. Every performance he does is usually played over the top
omg!! you used the italian opening of mlp! I'm so happy!!
Also, I loved Dave the barbarian when I was younger, so, thank you for the review!
Finally! Someone acknowlegded this gem!
We didn't have cable when I was a kid, but I remember going to babysit the neighbor's kid and watching TV with them and seeing this episode. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen up until that point

My favorite episode of Admirable Animation.

God I loved this show!!
This was actually my favorite show as a kid. I remember watching it in the mornings before going to school.
Dude, thanks for reintroducing to me to that episode. I didn't know which show you were talking about. Loved Dave the Barbarian.
I like Dave the Barbarian it deserves to be brought back.
Yeah, I'd love to see it in reruns on either the Disney Channel or Disney XD, most likely the latter.
Ivan Simpson same
Oh Dave the Barbarian, this was one of two Disney shows that only lasted for one season but still enjoyed as if they aired for many years the other being Nightmare Ned.
Oh my gosh I remember this show and this episode! I used to love this show so much ;w;
When the pony started to talk about his dreams i died laughing, i really wasn't expecting what he said.
The horse sounds like Christopher Walken. BADASS!
OMG! I Loved Dave the Barbarian :D But I can't even remember what the show was about ;p This made me cry... thank you so much for bringing me my childhood back ^^
Its very refreshing that you do other series than MLP, thank you for that!
You are my favorite =D
How does Buc Brony have more subs than Mr. Enter here? :C
I have no idea. We need to get more subs for this magnificent guy.
I was just thinking about this show the other day and this is the only episode I remembered off the top of my head. Cool review
A pony voiced by Christopher Walken!?! God, I miss this show.
What's the opposite of Christopher Walken?
spikeharusame ....Nic Cage?
Ron Villanova nope, try again
Richard Horvitz?
Ron Villanova who?
Dave the Barbarian was a very entertaining show. I liked the humor, the characters, the episodes; it was just a good cartoon. I guess it could be considered a very underrated cartoon and should get a little more recognition.

Ba. Barbarian. Ba-ba. Barbarian.
Oh man, here comes the feels
1. I absolutely LOVED Dave the Barbarian. It was one of my favorite animated shows.
2. When you said "where have I heard that voice before?" (something like that) I instantly thought Invader Zim.
I'm not the only one who loved this show xd
I remember this show. Very underrated.
I'm also glad you're doing Jurassic Bark.
I JUST REALIZED THE PONY IS DOING A WALKEN IMPRESSION!! XD
We still talk about it to this day, although our conversations are now about how much we miss it... maybe they'll bring it back one day, and everyone knows they should
I miss this show. Good choice MrEnter!!!!!!
Oh man, I loved Dave the Barbarian. This was a nice bit of nostalgia for me :)
You should review more Dave The Barbarian, it was such a good show.
It was clever enough my dad would laugh a it, and he was the sort of guy who'd consider cartoons some lesser thing for children.
Dave the Barbarian is kind like the Earthworm Jim cartoon in its humor, in that it's meta, out-there, yet subtle all at once. And I love it!
Is that horse voiced by Christopher walken?
WOW I saw 8 similar comments
+MaskedScifiFan A good one, at that.
Hello
I've never even seen this show before and this one episode has me hooked.
I was unaware lampshades can be used for other things than patching up plotholes.
I just watched a few episodes of Dave the Barbarian, and I got to say, it is one of the best cartoons I've ever watched!! Definetely in my top 10
0:36 He kinda sounds like Zim IMO but billy is a good guess as well since all 3 of these characters are voiced by Richard Horvitz.
Ah yes I remember this show. The intro always cracked me up.
NO, do NOT bring Dave the Barbarian back. I'd rather it stay dead with its honor intact than risk it being slandered
ܣܗܕܐ ܝܘܢܢ
Like spongebob...
Like DBZ GT...
Heck it doesn't even have to be TV. 90% of things that keep going even after the original writers can't make them, and they're hand me downed go downhill
Spyro the dragon...
Crash bandicoot...
Need I say more? o_O'
I know this is old, but what about all the actually good reboots that have happened?
I think I remember this episode. :) I'm so glad your talking about it! :) Also, can't WAIT for the Chicken Little review, I saw it in theaters when I was little.
They've been playing that movie an awful lot on Disney Junior lately.
REALLY!? When's that? :)
Maria Vistica In the morning during the past week. They quit playing it now.
:( That's ok I guess.
Ned Frichman gets promoted into the battlefield!
Yes! I loved this show! Thank you for doing this!
I hear invader Zim
+Begnsteal It's the same person.
I here both billy and zim in the same room screaming
+Nocturnalneko they're the same voice actor
yup
+screw lyra E145 MF mandy*
This show was really great and I used to watch it all the time. I often miss it and I hope it does come back in the future!
I missed a review of a cartoon that I use to know about, or heard things about? Wow, that hardly ever happens.
I'm so glad you did Dave the Barbarian :P !
0:36 JESUS CHRIST! He’s been everywhere!
This show was amazing, I can't believe it didn't last longer.
Hang on, is the guy who voices Dave also the same guy who voices Jack Spicer in 'Xiaolin Showdown'?
You know it's good when Zim's voice is involved
Well, whatever happened to this awesome show, it's better to see it die a hero than live long enough to become a villain if you catch my dirft.
'Dave the barbarian' is definitely an honorable mention of cartoons even to this day. and i loved how self aware it was!
Billy, ugh.
Zim, on the other hand... :P
I absolutly adored the show as a kid, it's tragically underrated
Didn't Ned also play Zim?
yeah if your talking about zim from invader zim
And Dagbert from the Angry Beavers, another show that was amazing when it was on, and barely even remember now, which is a terrible shame....
Much props for reviewing this. Dave the Barbarian was an extremely high quality, underrated show from a generally crappy point (2003-2009/2010) in American television animation.
Also, this episode is a legitimate satire on capitalism. In a "kid's show". Wut?
oh, Mister Enter?
What is your opinion on the subject of Spongebob finally being canceled?
Is it, is it really?
i heard a rumor on it. and even if it's not true, what would be your opinion?
It's about fucking time.
*****
Even if it isn't true, it's a question worth asking.
If the rumors are indeed true, I'd say although it saddens me, we're all better off this way. It had a solid running up to season 4, but after that it just ran out of gas, and the creators have just been digging their own grave ever since. I hate watching this show suffer despite how good it once was. I think it's high time Nick pulled the plug.
So many images locked away in my subconcious for so many years. I remeber this show. It was fucking great.
Anyone else notice princess candy pulled off the meat dress before lady Gaga in the credits?
This was one of my favourite shows! :D Lol for the voice acting thing, I thought of Zim immediately :P
Just found your channel and been going through stuff. Love it so far. That clip from Billy & Mandy made me wonder though. Have you reviewed any episodes of that good or bad? Cause that would be awesome!
Rebecca not yet
Rebecca but if he were to do an admirable it would have to be attack of the clowns
OMG Candy's pony is doing a Christopher Walken impression. That's why I love this show
Ned sounds like Zim from Invader Zim
same voice actor
I remember this show very fondly- sad that they weren't able to do more with it.
Is Dave voiced by the same guy that voices Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown?
yup
