- Using nothing but scrap materials, I made a modern coat rack that looks super nice! I didn't want big coat hooks sticking out, so I figured out a cool mechanism that gives this piece some modern character. Come see how I did it so you can make one too!

Between you and DIY Perks RUclips makers have now entered the BRASS AGE
It's a pretty amazing material. You can cut it with woodworking tools, it looks awesome as an accent, and it isn't all that expensive for what you'r getting. win-win-win.
Yea I saw that amazing video today too. I had the exact same thought
Lol was looking for this comment.
please do a hidden storage thing in a furniture, a table or a small bedside table. thanks
Bob? hello? please? can you do this?
He made a video about hidden storage in a bench about 4 years ago.
@@DemeDemetre guess not
that design is genius!!!! i would never think of that sort of hanger
Thanks! Hopefully you can use this in your future designs!
It's not really unique to Bob, the design has been around in several variants
Umbra has this design~ Really cute wooden piece that acts as a wall art as well~ They have flat sticks and round picket hooks~
I find myself yelling at the TV when you showed that piece of support nice walnut, how it could be done, what you should do, etc. THAT, my friend, is engagement. Whatever the numbers say, you are making great content. I love it so much when a video literally makes me speak / yell out loud. Kudos, Bob!!!
One of the most aesthetically pleasing projects you have ever done! Very mid century. I love it! Keep it up!
Thank you! 😊
2:15 I enjoy you taking the time to share ideas or thoughts you get even when you're not doing anything with them
Nice work! It turned out beautiful!
my uncle and aunt are building a cabin. This would be a great housewarming gift. Thanks for the idea!
Sounds great!
Wonderful design, the contrast between the wood and brass is great
Oh that looks so classy.
Watched your videos for years, never disappointed 😁
Very Cool Coat Rack !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing, a combination of modern, minimal, and rustic. Great idea!
Thank you very much!
That’s a super rad design.
I believe that "perfection" is achieved when an object is made that, at the same time, is both elegant and functional. Very good.
I follow you, keep it up. SL
Wow, that looks amazing!
Loved the project but the music in this one is great!! Love all your content Bob!!
Glad you enjoy it!
I really like that combo also! And it has such a nice sleek design. Great job!
Makes for a great looking coat rack. It appears that it looks better that way.
Functional art! I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
That is cool! Nice project Bob!
Thanks!
Looks great. This would makes good scrap wood project
Beautiful
That looks awesome bob keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
This is brilliant!
Definitely an awesome design.
This is fantastic!!! I'm going to ask for one for Christmas!
Super cool, Bob! Walnut and brass, you can never go wrong!
Superb design, looks very nice. I would probably add something as a backer for the lowered end of the hook piece so that someone dropping their coat onto the hook wouldn't jab the bottom of the hook through the drywall. Also if the plate is integral to the rack, it'd keep the coats from trying to push the rack off the wall.
This is so well done
It looks classy
I will definitely make one like this! Great idea. Thanks
This is a really cool project!
Thank you!
Nice Bob, the only drawback I see is using the drywall as a stop for the hook. A heavy winter coat hung on the same hook ( we are creatures of habit) will eventually push in to the drywall a bit. Lightweight stuff, probably never an issue. A thin piece of sheet metal like a roof flashing material on the back would be an easy fix and never be seen as it would only need to be at the hook location. Just a thought.
Absolutely. But I think it'll be ok. As long as the kids don't try and hang from it.
You could always put some metal behind it. Rebate it into the wood you would never know
Awesome! This would be great in the shop for aprons, welding jacket, Jedi robe . . . perfect!
Love it! I missed the 3M rollover, congrats!
Really cool idea.
Sometimes projects that are adapted during the build into a new project have the best turnouts!
Well done.
CLAMP CHAMP!!!!!
Very nice project great design. Really like this video this week. As always keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Can't wait to see ur next videos. Keep Making. God Bless.
Thanks, will do!
That looks pretty nice, keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Beautiful!
Great Job man really loving your videos
Glad you like them!
Very good work
Thank you so much 😀
ngl this is probably my favorite build from you ever.
Super
Super Duper

She’s a beaut! Matches the MCM clock!
That brass looks good beside that yellow door
Beautiful piece brother! Thank you for the info😊
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Nike Project, I liked the idea with the dado in the Back, so you can use a piece of wood to connect all together 👍
I wanted to keep it all clean and simple. Thanks for the kind words!
Good wood work .
Thanks 👍
Welcome 🤗😀
Great piece. I always love your stuff. Super innovative.
Thank you very much!
Very nice result!
Thank you!
Love it my dude! Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful work, Bob! It looks fantastic! 😃
Some day I'm going to make something like that!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You can do it!
Awesome design, and so simple! You could do this with multiple species too if you have a bunch of scraps you just can't bring yourself to burn.
Total beginner when it comes to woodwork, carpentry, DIY etc but this is something I'd love to have a go at in the future. Got 3 questions
1) do you do instructional videos?
2) is there an alternative method of joining the blocks together or a different way to cut the dado?
3) What's a good project for a beginner to start with? I'm thinking a mug tree or an even more basic coat rack.
Many thanks :D
Thanks for sharing that, nice!
Our pleasure!
10:35 Perfect!
This is awesome! Reminds me of Tyler Bell's coat rack.
Tyler is awesome
That looks such an elegant design. I think if that was in black, it would suit your guest bathroom.
That’s beautiful
Thank you!
Cool it’s super clever!!!
Thanks!
Always waiting for something new 👍
We're always making something new. :)
I know that and always waiting for your projects thanks and please keep doing
Love the design, especially the mixed materials! Although now I'm very curious what the towel rack will look like! lol
Very nice Bob. I made a similar one from a magazine article you've probably seen. I expanded that to 10 hooks, and wouldn't have minded even 12. So many jackets, coats, hats, etc.
Great result looks amazing im thinking of making it myself. Any other tips?
Sweet! I like it a lot!
Reminds me of something Pask makes would make out of a scrap wood.
That really looks beautiful. If only I can buy it.
For that coat rack, I could kinda see some sort of secret storage be added to it. But granted you could add secret storage to almost anything like desk for example.
Turned out looking beautiful, a great use of scraps from around the shop. The brass inlays really pull the room together. I thought for sure you were gonna use your Bridgeport on the brass bars.
Thank you very much! The Bridgeport would be kinda overkill with brass this thin. Totally possible though.
In Jimmy’s baby voice “ overkill that’s why you bought the Bridgeport”.
I love this! Super cool and functional! Now I have to build one for myself because I cannot get over how awesome that is!
You should!
@@Iliketomakestuff I will!
Legitimate question: Something like this, to me, can be patented and can easily become a very sellable item with the correct distribution strategy and sales team. Do you not pursue these sorts of ventures because it doesn't make financial sense when your RUclips is doing so well and is possibly more enjoyable than a sales venture? Beautiful and simple design by the way!
I’d buy one
I don’t know how easily you can get patent for this. But I’ve seen 3 of the same design at container store in the last year so. But most likely it’s what you said, the cost benefit of making these to sell isn’t worth the opportunity cost. Especially when YT is doing so well.
I don’t think it’s really patentable, at least not anything broad enough as to prevent similar designs.
This is not patentable, and it's not worth patenting. It's not new and it's obvious because these hangers exist in numerous stores.
Pretty cool.
OMG, I was 100 percent convinced you have the camera set to mirror image and then I figured out that's the shirt's actual design!
Cool hangar! The only thing I would change is to add a small, light weight spring behind the bottom of the hooks. Light enough so that it stays open when something light like a hat is hanging from the hook, but strong enough to push the hook back closed when nothing is hanging.
True, but for something like a hat or hoodie, it would pinch it. But you totally could.
Very cool.
Thanks!
Any future spring camping or garden videos in the future? Maybe a cable slide from your treehouse to somewhere?
Reading my mind.
This gave me a great idea of a coat rack I can make
Will have to make one for a Christmas present 🎁
Great idea!
@@Iliketomakestuff thanks for the idea
Wait is over
don’t you know that it’ll explode if you cross grain direction? nice design on the walnut next to the hangers. That inset really makes the hangers pop!
Awesome video, Bob. :) And you actually inspired me to make a rack for my keys from wood scraps, but with 3D-printed hangers instead of brass, so I can color-code the hangers just by using different filament.
I have made one of these before using CNC and waterjet to engineer the pieces. I used a steel dowel.
Great project Bob, gives me an idea for some sort of outdoor art piece that doubles up as a welly boot rack 🧐, you inspire as always👍 stay safe 🤜
Sounds great!
I'm really missing projects like this Bob
What about it in particular were you missing?
@@Iliketomakestuff I love the simple projects with everyday uses
@@Iliketomakestuff I like your wood projects for daily home needs. I like your solutions and designs. I really enjoy videos like these. Please make more.
This is so cool! I will be sending you some picks. Got to go to the wood store. Bye for know
Great idea & very nice work Bob. The only thing I would have done differently is to round over the front edges of the coat rack and/or put a bevel on them to cut down the angularity. 👍👍😉😉🤔🤔
Nice⚒🖐📽
Thanks!
Nice! Always waiting for a new video.
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@Iliketomakestuff I'm sure I will!
A smaller version of this can be a great idea for keys. 👏🏻👍
Ooo you should make the ultimate snack stand with popcorn machine and chocolate or caramel fountain!!
Can it have room for Gummy Bears?
Absolutely!
Cool
I needed something for hats ... but i like this
This would be perfect!
No drill press workaround:
Keeping deeper holes square is a nightmare without a drill press, and I don't want to build a rig, or buy guides. I don't need them enough.
However... I could cut the wood pieces a bit long, drill the holes in each piece individually with a template. String them all on the dowel for alignment. Glue up. Then cut the ends flush. Any pieces where the hole ends up angled, can give it a try again through the other end, since the mistake will be hidden.
This is a great option for the end of the hall where a hook sticking out with nothing hung on it would be easy to not notice and hurt myself on.
I must say, watching the intro, knowing the future makes me understand Biff Tannen just a little bit more.
Thats epic. Will the lower parts of the brass dig into the wall if over loaded with weight?
I imagine with a lot of weight, but probably not from jackets and hats.
My thoughts exactly! I would have put a backboard or stop of sorts to prevent that 🤷
@@Iliketomakestuff Ok awesome. Great job. Definitely love the style of it.
Great design! I think I’ll make a slightly modified version that holds keys.
Do it!
You should make a drink dispenser to put in any fridge
