      This is the best comment. Thank you, Jordan! This was a fun little research project. Not just to say "no - not from coal" but to outline ALL the reasons why!

      @@TheGemAcademy you are so friendly. Are most Caucasian ladies friendly like you? I ain't white person neither black. I'm from Sri lanka. Anyway I do love gems. I have my own blue sapphire, yellow sapphire, pearl, Gomed (3 large, 10 small), moon stone, white sapphire, pink sapphire,
      Recently I got cheated by gem seller, he sold 3 cubic zirconia for me and said those are genuine white sapphires and another somewhat expensive yellow sapphire which turned out to be synthetic stuff has no value at all.
      Internet research got me to you. Thanks again for clear explanations though. I'm happy about you Madam.

    Your videos are really very informative. You've done a great job! I came across one of your videos where you pointed out that the diamond testers are not reliable anymore. I was wondering if you could explain how can we differentiate between Moissanite and Diamonds. Is there a portable tester out there which can give a 100% result for this purpose?

    • @TheGemAcademy

      Thank you so much! I think the best and quickest way (eventsully) is to learn to do it visually by seeing lots of samples of both of different sizes and weights. The only equipment that can otherwise help are the liquid free refractometers - but they are for loose stones - some single set stones can be tested but settings limits this test for all run over settings and side stones. So learning what diamond looks like visually really is the best and quickest way :)

      @@TheGemAcademy Thanks a ton. Much appreciated. Any specific "liquid free refractometers" recommendations?

    This video was very informative and well made, I too was one of the people who thought that Coal could be turn into Diamonds out of my own gullible naivete.

    Hello,
    I just discovered your channel and really like the informative videos you are putting out. As I get more invested in the jewelry world and start purchasing pieces at auctions, I'm now looking to buy premium equipment and would love to get a professional's opinion. I'm considering the Presidium Adamas and the GemOro Testerossa as diamond testers. Do you have experience with these products or the brands themselves? Also, I've noticed a nice loupe in some of your videos. Could you recommend a brand? Thank you very much in advance.
    Best regards, Jona.

    hey There a question from one gemologist to another! love your channel what's the formula to appraise Lab growns I used to do 60 % off of Rapaport but now these stones are tanking in value so whats the best formula to use for a replacement value.
    Cheers

      Hey there! Thanks for messaging! Ooof.... the prices are changing so fast that I'd recommend getting comparables and working from there... sign up to a trading platform is the easiest. Nivoda is great (and they list the price off rap for wholesale) and then you can add your markups from there :)

    Your videos are really great! Could you do a video on diamonds as an investment or store of wealth ?

    • @TheGemAcademy
      @TheGemAcademy  2 года назад +1

      Oof maybe. However, its a tough one unless you can buy at wholesale and are willing to sit on them for a long-term investment really - unless you have distribution channels. I'll think about it :) but its a risky video if people only take in parts of information and not all of it.

    This is an interesting thing I have found. People are using Brazil minded in Brazil stones that they processing using HTHP to make colourful diamomds. Green yellow white of white blue. Could you look into this and tell me what you think. They are sold only out of india.

    • @TheGemAcademy
      @TheGemAcademy  2 года назад +1

      This will follow the usual rules of HPT treatment. When you say that its being performed on certain stones from Brazil - what are your sources and could you share them with me? From just what you said, this will likely be HPHT treatments, or possibly multistage treatments on Type Ia stones :)

    So they taught that diamonds comes from coal and so they change it once they make them in labs so ARE ALL THESE GEMS MAN MADE.

    • @TheGemAcademy
      @TheGemAcademy  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hmmmm no. Not at all. As diamonds have been around for millennia! You may have just been making a jokey comment but just incase, I'll explain a little 😅 Way before the introduction of laboratory-grown diamonds. The understanding of what diamonds are and how they formed have evolved over time as our understanding developed the more we learnt about the planet. Plate tectonics were not understood and accepted until the 1960s! Xx

    I remember one of the old Superman TV shows where he did just that. Of course, that was creating an artificial diamond. Thanks for the debunking of this myth. ruclips.net/video/5RD-mRB_nCc/видео.html
