A long time ago, the lead researcher had a wife and child. The wife was a fellow researcher, and obsessed with finding the key to reviving people long dead. One fatefull day, she realised she needed a test subject and wanted to use her son. The husband tried to convince her to stop following that line of research, but she refused, and he had to fight her to the death.
Disgusted by her actions and his shame, he removed his own memories of the whole sordid dealings, and locked them into a crystal, hiding the truth from everyone, including his son.
But not all traces could be hidden, and when the son started investigating, they found out the memory crystal contained such vivid memories that it had become it's own lifeform, and it not only sought to finish the research, it also intended to replace the husband for betraying his own memories.
It is that monstrous entity you now face as the boss.

As a Diablo 2 player who's farmed Andariel and the blood bath lady in her tower 100s of times this video gave me a lot to think about.

@Basic_Psychology interesting timing, too. Shadiversity just came out with a video on sharpening swords with rocks, and it was mentioned that using another weapon worked in a pinch, too.

Love how the characters kept leveling and the fight got easier and easier. Reminds me of MMO days when I used to solo raid bosses for rare loot, even though I was over-leveled at the time. Great content as usual and wow, the FX department needs a raise. It is getting so good with this new studio of yours. Keep up the great work!
Reminds me of farming bosses in Warframe. Just a few seconds after getting to the boss, he is already dead. They had to make the boss invulnerable between phases to keep players from killing them instantly, and yet somehow, we still do.
Not only leveling, but getting a better hang of his moveset.
As you can see in the second fight, Adam dodged a fireball that hit him the first time, and the melee fighters parried and eventually countered all his moves while the rangers fighters attacked when he couldn't defend himself.
I used to do that all the time. I took my death knight in WoW through all the content from vanilla on up just to see what raid bosses i could and couldnt solo. I think I made it to wrath of the lich king content before I started having real trouble steam rolling everything and even then it was often because mechanics either required multiple players or didnt rely on my own stats. Collected a lot of fun stuff, got some pets for my pokemon battling from ahn quiraj that were pretty awesome. And got to see other content I never had the chance to because I wasnt a raider at the time.
And Rowan was damaged too.
I used to do this too for lower level players in WoW. I can't remember the instance. I haven't played since about a month before Cataclysm dropped. I do remember it was just right down the road from Undercity and it only took about 10 minutes to run it. Can anyone refresh my memory as I'm old and lazy now, lol!
Rowan's initial laugh was EXCELLENT. I could totally picture an actually unapologetically evil antagonist who relishes his evil doing it.
I like how their tactics are improving and being more and more optimized each time they repeat the raid.

Well. That, and apparently poor Rowan is taking cumulative wound penalties.
@@linkhyrule5800 that is the system actually giving them bonuses for defeating the same enemy over and over again. If another group showed up he would be back to full strength, that or when the daily reset happens and the accumulated bonuses go back to zero. They say ten more because any more and the rewards are so diminished it isn’t worth the time.

I'd like to see a horror themed version from the raid boss's perspective where they keep dying and reawakening before this fight against these heroes who seem to keep doing better and better against them as if they can read the boss's attacks or something. Like a Groundhog's Day but where the main character is the only one unaware things keep resetting each time.
This should be Bodger's replacement character for NPC D&D with this as his backstory... More in need of therapy than Greg he's just happy to be there not dieing over and over as a raid boss, seeking an end to that bleak existence his ultimate goal in D&D is ending his own miserable existence so when the party completes their quest the raid ends and he is divinely rewarded to live the rest of his days as a humbled blacksmith worthy of his grandfather's hammer.

Just realized something. The long loading wait times for a raid boss dungeon to begin is the Raid boss getting therapy for his aches and wounds and mental health. Before the next raid session.

Rowan picking himself up off the floor after each beatdown reminds me of how each decade I survive, it gets harder and harder to get up from any seated or prone position.
I know, right? After a certain point there are involuntary up and down noises, like "ugh" and "oofdah".

Do squats. If you can't do 50 squats in one go, then that's your problem. If you can't do more than about 10 squats in one go, then you are in serious physical trouble (medically speaking) and have major muscle atrophy. Getting up to 20 squats in one go is a decent target for seriously atrophied legs, which will take at least two months to safely get up to. People think muscle building is about the upper body but actually leg, back, and stomach muscles are far more important for general mobility. It's also not safe to work out the upper body if the lower body is in poor shape. You'll find that getting up is easy when your leg muscles have strength in them. You'll also start looking at people who are using walkers and think that a few squats would do them a world of good.

@@PaleGhost69 Hes not wrong, but hes a bit evangelical. And he omitted to mention you must be wearing loose clothing. The gentlest squat is just to sink down like a peasant doing a shit. Hold that and try and finesse your balance, using your arms, to get your heels on the ground too. You might try pushing your knees apart with your elbows to feel the stretch in your lower back. Next level up is to stand up from that position.
If all this is new to you, best have a friend, or your phone, nearby. Without those, you're going to need some asswipe.

Honestly I think it would be hilarious if Raid bosses had different dialog depending on how many times you've defeated them recently. I half expected Rowan to just be lying on the ground saying, "Ugh, just make it quick, I don't feel like getting up".

@@fredriksvard2603 I saw a great fanfiction that addressed this once, it was an Ah My Goddess one. A demon brought a contract up to Hild for her consideration (think big boss of hell) and she was pissed off that day so she 'granted Onixia's wish' to be immortal but added the 'fine print' that she would be defeated by hapless adventurers over and over again only to be reborn for the duration of the contract.
"If you dare...", I love the lack of enthusiasm at the end!
I love the small detail in their skit: Notice how the party got hit several times in their 1st try and later on, they aren't getting hit much by the boss on subsequent tries and clear the boss faster because they got better.
Yep. not only being less (or not) hit, and faster kills the choreography follows a similar sequence with sections slowly removed or changed. Note Rowan being spun about and then shot in the back and Britt's sequence of blows to the head.
Be a bit more accurate if rowan killed them a few more times before they barely beat him the first time.
The also are leveling UP with each victory, too.

You can tell they were in a nice place because Rowan specifically is making sure never to dig the point of his sword into the floor when getting up like he does when they are outside. Even in the end, he has the sword hilt down. Gouging up the floor doesn't make it easy to get to come back again ;)

I don't think most of that set is even real...
A lot of the far back walls look like flat images and many parts of the background are blurred, probably to hide the flatness. Some stuff even looks CGI, like the fallen columns. Put some fake prop columns that the actors can interact with and viola, you've been duped into thinking they are at an actual place.
Also, in some scenes, there is a circular patch of sunlight, presumably from a stained glass dome or window...but it seemingly disappears in some wide shots of the area.
Most damning is the fact that there is one scene where the four characters are standind in it...but are somehow shrouded in shadow?
My money is on that this was filmed in warehouse.

I don't think the sword is a problem considering ar 2:53 you can literally see it wiggling around. I don't think it's actually metal that'll scratch the floor.

Genuinely did not expect that to be an ad. That was a gripping, tragic tale that actually made me sympathise with Rowan (shocking!)

@@hydewhyte4364 they partner with game companies sometimes to make money to bring us the rest of the content we watch for free. It's still a short series about a game logic. The same type of content they normally do. 1 day a week out of 5-6 days a week content is not "all adds now".
I've actually wondered about this. Some games have a bit of a cooldown period before you can fight a boss again, while others can restart as fast as it takes to navigate the menu to do it again.😅
Remember more than 20 years ago, on a persistent world server of Neverwinter Nights, some top-tier bosses only respawn once every 24 hours in real-time, or per server reset. Cos they had top-tier loot. But it was nearly impossible to win lol. Their stats were way beyond the best possible stats of Max-level players even with the best magic buffs. We could spam 100% healing potions and resurrection, but once the boss set eyes on you, all it took was 3 seconds to die again 😂😂😂. Had to go in with a huge raid party to even last for a minute or two.
So this is why Rowan acts like that as the manager at Playtech. It all makes sense!
And they love beating him to pulp whenever they get chance 😂

I'm sure someone else notice this detail, that by the time you fought the raid boss on 2nd or 3rd attempt you will start to remember the enemy's attack pattern. So notice how brit was able to damage rowan on his first attack after dodging and adam dodging the fire attack in 2nd attempt.
EDIT: I am not also sure if what i just said is applicable to this game but i know some games does hehehe.
It's literally in every mmorpg in existence that has raid/boss mechanics.

I love your NPC-perspective content. This is an awesome addition to that, and I'd love to see more things like it. Life as the NPC boss or villain. Life of the NPC King or Queen that the adventurers go to for quests and to establish loyalty with a faction (only to betray them because the perks of being part of a different faction are better). Not just the average NPCs but the ones who are supposed to be powerful individuals or powerful leaders of some kind and the Ups and Downs of their lives.
Yeah we’ve been talking about that. Now we have the studio we’re thinking of more skits like that

Respawning bosses always make me laugh in MMOs.
I still remember playing WoW when it first came out and the farm owners are giving me a reward for clearing their farms of the evil scarecrow monsters, while watching out the window the whole time of scarecrow monsters tearing a bunch of a players apart. "Yep, yep, sure took care of that for you, mam!"
I kind of wish the mobs just stopped 'being visible' and 'interactable' once you turned in a quest for that area. Like... you just got to see the starter town being cleaned up bit by bit. Maybe the people who are on that quest are temporarily invisible and can't be interacted with while doing the quest if you've already completed it? And the whole town slowly turns from this ramshackle version of itself to a repaired and functional looking town.

@Jarold Scott Williams.3rd WOW and a few other MMOs actually do this, not on a large scale, but on some main story quests. First time I noticed was on WOTLK when you were fighting at the gate with the dragons and the scourge, then Sylvanas betrays everyone and starts throwing blight every where. I had a higher level buddy trying to run me through the quest so we could run the next dungeon together and soon as we stepped into the area he disappeared. I had to solo the battle sequence and after the cutscene boom we were visible to each other
Reminds me of Yahtzee Croshaw's novel "Mogworld" in which Jim the Necromancer realizes the battle is futile and nopes out there. Eventually he discovers he's an NPC in an MMORPG.
I'll never farm potions again without thinking of poor Rowan.

I'm really happy that you get to make sponsored videos. It can be seen at first glance that you know how to use the budget you get. Your sponsored videos are the kind of ads I wouldn't skip if they popped up. They are in no way inferior to the regular content. I will say more, the recent epic battle with Orcs and the World of Warships advertisements are actually some of my favourite skits. I think that this video will be added to that list as well

Ok I'm very thoroughly surprised, no one is talking about the premise of this skit but it's for sure something that has crossed the mind a fair few times while grinding so seeing it be executed so well is fantastic.

Don't forget the poor Dungeon bosses who get wrecked way more often. Raid bosses at least have the satisfaction to wipe raids that are still progressing - dungeon bosses rarely get even that.

they did her stuff twice, and her elbows were a bit off so i think she was really struggling with it. she did a good job bring that sort of grit into her acting.
If the boss stayed acting dead, the players would give up thinking its bugged.

Agreed. Also i think Rowan should complain at the third instead fourth times they challenged him again. The second one would be the heroes managed to beat him easily due to level up.

Great vid y'all! Reminds me of my first time taking out the Red Dragon Kurrandrax (dax???) who I'm not sure is even fightable anymore these days. The call captain, a Great Weapons Fighter, wanted me. as the tank, to just kite the adds while DPS focused on the dragon; but I wasn't that fast and the mobs kept ganging up on me near the climax of the fight. I decided to break ranks and draw the dragon's fire instead, much to the chagrin of the DPS who then needed to play add control and the call captain who no longer had the direct attentions of the dragon. As the battle raged on I could tell they were miffed from the chat, but the quick loss of health bar in our friend dragon was undeniable. The GWF seemed distracted as I landed a final blow on it's snoot and finished the dungeon...right before getting booted from the instance. Well played PUG homies...well played. I might pick Raid back up asp. Probably switch to using my PC since I've got some PC upgrades planned and just had to replace my phone since it got glitchy so I got rid of the app after the transfer. It might be a while though lots going on this month.
I have to chuckle, the title had me thinking this was going to be about the woes of being the Leader of the Raid, having to keep everybody together, making sure the healers knew who the tanks were and all that. Delightful subversion. Well played!
